There is this rumor spreading in christian forums that the HealthCare Law is a prelude to the dreaded 666
I have heard it from at least one popular pastor in ABJ that the implementation of the Law entails inserting beneficiaries with micro-chips in their right-hands or foreheads to enable them access the Healthcare benefits.

I have not seen this in bayoooooooo's post. Can someone clarify please

afam4eva: Even though Mugabe has his own faults, I think many African leaders need to emulate his stance on world affairs. We have to start looking inwards. Some people have said that it makes sense for the US to protect their interest by appointing an American into the position since they run the world bank. Why don't they just change the name from "world bank" to "US bank" so that African and thrid world countries can withdraw from being members of such chauvinistic instition and focus on their various regional banks.

They cannot change the name from "World Bank" to "US Bank" because they are not that dumb. They are smart.
U don't catch a bird by scaring it. World Bank and IMF investors make more money from Developing Economies than they put in.
It is a profit Going-Concern for its investors.

I have said it before, NOI's challenge is brilliant and something positive to launder Nigeria's perennial negative image.

But beyond that, no more. Africans should get real. Would you leave your investments in the hands of one of your servants when your son is available? Even if that son is less competent, you will surround him with competent people.

And of course, Africa has its ADB to look inwards at. But trust me, they won't, rather they may dwell on bad-mouthing like Mugabe.

Every business has a succession plan.
The IMF and World Bank, believe it or not, are white man's businesses portrayed as helpers of Africa and other developing economies.

The unwritten succession plan for the apex of the IMF is meant for Europeans only.
The unwritten succession plan for the apex of the the World Bank is meant for American citizens only.
Both pay the piper and dictate the tunes.

That Ngozi Okonjo Iweala challenged the Status Quo is brilliant! But that the West is selfish for not changing their succession plan to please one of their best employees and the developing economies in general, well, is unfortunate. embarassed tongue

But the Business Owner dictates the tune. The Business Owner's decision does not have to please the so-called 'beneficiaries'(Africa) or its employees(Ngozi and Co.)

Africa has its ADB (African Development Bank). If Africa feels pissed, they can all renounce their membership of the World Bank and IMF and focus entirely on the ADB. But I doubt if Africa has the balls to do that. Dis-united, fragmented and sucking on the West's balls tongue. Playing politics of talk, talk, no action,

A Business Owner is a Business Owner. The West conceived and own both the World Bank and the IMF.

European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) / Re: Abramovich To Hand Roberto Di Matteo One-year Chelsea Deal by opokonwa(m): 3:46pm On May 24, 2012
I have read everyone's comment here with keen interest.
Pr01's and Ibime's and other comments have entertained me but the insults?...just too much.

My own take:

None of the earlier comments here ever noted that in all of Guardiola'a 4years of coaching Barca's Senior Side, he never took/signed more than 1-year contract. In fact, he opted out of any contract that will tie him for more than 1 season at a time. His contracts were often renewed yearly.
4 years and 13 trophies later, Guardiola has written his name in Gold. He may even add a 14th trophy come Friday, tomorrow.

That said, i don't think that Chelsea's 1-year contract to RDM (if confirmed) should generate such a fuss. If RDM proves himself like Guardiola, he may likely get a renewal just like Guardiola did three times with Barca.

That said, I think RDM is a very intelligent man and tactical coach with lots of 'Good Luck'. However, I do not think he left most chance to luck. Chelsea team worked really hard in most of their crucial matches against Barca, Bayern, Napoli and even Liverpool(FA Cup Final).
It takes a higher mental state to withstand the onslaught of both Barca and Bayern and hit them devastatingly when it matters most.

Besides, how do you play attacking football with Barca and Bayern when your team's best quality is its resilience in both the Goal-keeping and Defence?
Chelsea had no Mid-Field and the attacking options were limited to Drogba, Ramires(suspended) and Torres(Unpredictable-Undependable). RDM simply used his best asset and hit on a counter....the posts and Lady luck helped him more than a few times but I doubt if Lady luck would have succeeded if he changed his pattern in the short term.

Rumor mills have it that Chelsea wants to buy players like Neymar, Hulk, Falcao, Eden Hazard, Lucas Moura and others. Give RDM a 1-year contract and sign a few of these attack-minded and game-changing players and see if Chelsea will play the same.

A coach defines his tactics by evaluating the individual strengths of his key players against their individual weaknesses and blending them into a team.
Di Matteo inherited a team of demoralized, aging, ego-tripping, confused and slow individuals and brought out the best from them, beating the best in the world, even winning two very-important cups, one of them the UEFA Champions League! when everyone including the whole lot of us posting here wrote them off?! All these in less than 3-months! shocked Come on! I do not know how else to define a Great Coach!

Abramovich's reaction is expected! For someone to buy a middle table club for £120 million and spend over £1 billion turning it into the biggest threat in European football, it simply speaks volumes about his passion for the game, his expectations from coaches and the type of results he expects. His decision (if confirmed) to give RDM just a 1-year contract is on point!

Having said this, I think Abramovich having tasted European Glory once, is impulsive as ever about staying at the top and will pull all the right stops to remain there. RDM's one-year contract(if confirmed) is just the beginning of it. For Abramovich, Chelsea is not a toy or hubby, Chelsea is a full-time job! An expression of his passion, love, competitiveness, tenacity, ego, image, dominance and an extension of himself!

I think that Chelsea Football Club has just gotten more vicious in their competition to attract the best talent and the best winning formula.

Chelsea Fans should just sit tight and brace themselves up for some of the best dominance of European Football.

Didier Drogba
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) / Re: Didier Drogba Confirms Chelsea Exit' by opokonwa(m): 1:34pm On May 22, 2012
I love and admire Didier Drogba but I think there is time for everything. It's time to go.

Drogba to Chelsea like Guardiola to Barcelona; both men have given everything they have to their clubs this season. They have nothing left to give (as ironic as it sounds).

Drogba's exit at this point will do both him and Chelsea lots of good! Drogba will be leaving when the ovation is loudest and his strength fading. 34 yrs is not moi-moi. Drogba's imposing and egotistic personality in Chelsea's dressing room will never share striker's place with anyone.

Chelsea has all but sealed Falcao's signing and Falcao is almost in the same position Drogba was 8 years' ago, having played the Europa final. And even bettered Drogba's record by winning it twice (Porto and Athletico Madrid), scoring in the recent final. Falcao will very well fit into Drogba's shoes at Chelsea. he comes with a hungrier goal-instinct, same body structure, age advantage and having excelled at two different leagues.

Viva Drogba!

Prof. Achebe's non-stop recognition and chart-topping antics negates all your pull-down-arguments to relegate him to obscurity.

Some people are institutions themselves, and the substance of their work challenges the very essence of the Nobel Prize.

Prof. Achebe fits this bill. So sad grin

To the first part in bold, no be only the greatest na him be the highest. Pull Down Syndrome indeed. Since all your arguments have been severely dealt a mortal blow, it's not surprising your latest route. Read about these four writers and tell me which among them is not better than Achebe:

1. Wole Soyinka, Nobel Prize 1986.
2. Naguib Mahfouz, Nobel Prize 1988
3. Nadine Gordimer, Nobel Prize 1991.
4. John Maxwell Coetzee Nobel Prize 2003.

While you are at that, watch out for these two guys in the near future. They stand a better chance: Assia Djebar and Ngugi wa Thiong’o

Achebe tops the world lists compile by faceless experts on Wikipedia. Is that what you are celebrating? Why not called him the best thing that ever happened to literature on earth? It hurts me badly to say this but that's the truth: he is even far from the Africa's best so he stands no chance of shooting for the world greatest.

It remains obvious that the Nobel Prize is your Holy Grail. And until it is awarded to Prof.Achebe, he is not the best grinlaughing in Arabic

Kindly answer my question:
How often are their works referred to several years after they won the Prize

While you are scratching your head to answer me, please back it up with references as Achebe's references litter this thread.

Some people cannot contain their neighbors achievement.
It is an unsavory and bitter reality to them. Rather than celebrating with their neighbor, it's to line up several veiled and disgusting arguments only intended to tarnish someone else's achievement.

bayooooooo:

Snobbery? Guy leave matter and let's move on. Achebe is great, no doubt, but certainly not the africa's greatest.
Winning small awards here and there does not compare to the main thing. Okocha won BBC's African Footballer of the Year but we all know who won the main prize. Same is applicable to Nobel Prize. Deifying Achebe and glorifying Wikipedia lists will not bring Achebe the much desired Prize. That does not add anything to what's already known.

You need to grow up and assess issue objectively without bias. If Nobel prize will be given to an African tomorrow, it's most likely not going to be Achebe. Why? There are several better authors in East Africa who on comparative basis are more deserving than this overrated, the so called finest, so called greatest, so called best known, so called genius. So it's not a Yoruba vs Igbo thing as some have erroneously labelled it. I am not a tribalist for all who cares to listen. my analysis or belief is purely from the point of what I have read, Africa wide, and the literary perceptions beyond Africa.

If we ask some of you to explain what you mean by Achebe being the Africa best, you, no doubt, have no fact or any shred of evidence to substantiate such a position. Why? No one, except people within your circle, would believe the so called best has not be able to win the best award why four other personalities have won such? No body in Europe, Asia, America, S America would believe your stories of a book being translated to a thousand languages. So try and be objective.

You have avoided this question time and again, "Who then is the Greatest?" Obviously, you have no better candidate but you cannot refrain from using Pull-Down-Syndrome to discredit the Greatest.

Kindly provide us names of your so called "several better authors in East Africa" since you probably keep tabs on them and their works. Another classic case of discrediting Prof.Achebe's reputation and bad belle grin

And I will appreciate you stop limiting Prof. Achebe's work to Africa's best. That list up there is not an African List. It's a world rating. and this is not the 1st time Prof is topping the list. Prof Achebe had gone global long before you knew how to read or write. Eat that tongue
Literature / Re: Achebe's Things Fall Apart Named One Of 50 Most Influential Books by opokonwa(m): 7:45am On May 22, 2012
bayooooooo:

Re read the posts above. You started the tribal stuff first before I responded in kind. See below:

Just because okocha had been a very prolific striker and was the best footballer in one year that everyone kept referring to that year as the africa finest moment in football would not make Okocha the best more so that he did not even have any continental awards to his name. That also does not take anything away from Okocha's greatness as well. That's the heart of the matter.

Another indirect dissing of a prolific Igbo son.

Prof. Chinua Achebe's penchant for rejecting recognitions and awards have become quite prredictable.
