Education / I Invested ₦20M In An App To Help Students Prepare For WAEC & JAMB. Here’s Why by oshokay(m): 10:55am On Feb 20
Students who attend expensive schools tend to perform better academically than students in more affordable schools.

It’s a known fact!

They perform better because they use cutting-edge educational tools and get one-on-one attention from highly qualified teachers. Because teachers have to manage a smaller size classroom, students can ask questions and their individual learning needs are met.

Well, for the 99% of Nigerian families who can’t afford one million naira per term but still want to provide their children with the best education, they turn to extra lesson teachers.

But even that is becoming extremely difficult to afford.

I recently spoke with a parent in Ibadan who got an extra lesson teacher for her child and according to her, she was paying him N35,000 per month. And that’s for one subject!

So if you want to get a qualified teacher for three terms that’s N315,000 every year for extra lesson teachers! And you’ve not even paid the main school fees. What would be left to feed the family?

But what if? Just what if I told you that your child can get the same level of Education students in high-end schools get without paying their exorbitant school fees?

I’ll let you in on the secret, It’s an app I invested over N20,000,000 in about a year ago called Edubaloo.

After graduating from the Department of Computer Science, OAU, I set up an online platform where students preparing for JAMB and WAEC could download study materials for free.

I knew how hard my parents worked to make sure I got into school for a course I loved and making the website free was my way of helping other parents.

After working as a software engineer for about seven years, however, I felt I could do more! So I decided to build an app that could answer any question a student might have on any subject right on their phone, essentially replacing the need for extra lesson teachers.

Guess what? We did it!

Now you can save over N300,000 on high-quality extra lessons every year.

One of the features we have added to the Edubaloo app you to take pictures of any question and it will provide you with the answer immediately!

See it in action for yourself!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pXv4R-uzD3U

No more problems with homework!

Now, when your child needs help with homework, you or your child can simply take a picture of the question and you will get a detailed explanation that your child would understand.

But wait, there’s more!

For students preparing for WAEC and JAMB exams, we are still providing past questions through the app for free and we’re constantly updating our database with new questions.

We also added a JAMB simulator so students can practice as if they were in the exam hall, making them better prepared.

These are just some of the features we’ve added to make sure your child is at the top of their class or gets high marks in exams they’re preparing for.

So what does this mean for you as a parent, an uncle or an aunty?

As we've established, it saves you a lot of costs! Given the current economy, every family could use some help. With Eduubaloo, you can offer your child a high-quality education while at the same time, saving costs.

You're also setting your child up for a successful career. Our AI-enhanced app provides a comprehensive understanding of all subjects, increasing the likelihood of them gaining admission to their desired school and course of study.

I wouldn’t be where I am today If my parents didn’t do all they could to make sure I studied the course I wanted.

Imagine the pride you'll feel when your child's career is earning them millions. Think about how grateful they'll be, knowing it was all thanks to your support.

I want every parent, aunty or uncle to feel that!

So what does Edubaloo do?

Edubaloo, provides comprehensive support to all students, especially those who struggle to grasp certain subjects. It ensures round-the-clock learning, allowing students to find answers any time they need, eliminating the need to wait for a teacher's help.

It also helps students prepare for exams like WAEC and JAMB, ensuring that they gain admission into their desired school and course of study.

Don't let your child miss out on the opportunity to become a top student with a successful future career.

As the saying goes, "Opportunity does not waste time with those who are unprepared."

The longer you delay introducing Edubaloo to them, the more opportunities they might miss.

Take advantage of the Edubaloo app while it's still free and start providing high-quality education for your child and save on expenses at the same time.

So where can you get this Edubaloo App I’ve been speaking of?

You can download the Edubaloo - JAMB CBT + WAEC for android on google playstore and Edubaloo - JAMB CBT + WAEC for iOS on the app store.

Let me know what you think of the app. Your review will help me know how to improve the app to help students better!

Thank you, see you on the next one! wink

Webmasters / 6 Costly Mistakes To Avoid When Buying A Domain Name by oshokay(m): 3:43pm On Jul 08, 2016
Whether you own a small or large scale business, creating a website for your business is an essential step to marketing your products, services or brand online. Getting the right domain name has gone from being a nice thing to have to a must have, in fact it could be a major determinant to your marketing success.

A lot of people have made major mistakes when choosing a domain name for their brands or businesses and when they realize it, it becomes too expensive or impossible to make changes. These are 6 costly mistakes to avoid when choosing a domain name.

Settling For First: After deciding to create a website, you visit use a hosting company and type in a domain name. Available! Don’t purchase that name yet. Try other names, you could hit a domain name that suits the purpose of your business better and people would like.

Thinking Small: So you own a small business, who says you’ll be small forever?. A lot of business have chosen names, built a really strong reputation and then they decide to expand but they already cornered themselves by choosing a really direct and straightforward domain name. For instance, you sell shoes and then you name your website 'verashoes'dotcom. What happens after one year when you decide to start selling other fashion products? Don’t think small.

Similar to Another Business: You set up your website and in a week you start getting traffic, calls, mails, awesome right? You then find out your supposed clients called to inquire about another business that sounds like yours. Choose names that are unique so your customers don’t accidentally visit another website.

Another Meaning: As nice as your domain name might sound to the ears, write it down and ask yourself these questions. Is it easy to spell? What meaning does it have in other languages? What Does it really mean?. I have made the mistake of ignoring this but lucky for me it didn’t cost me too much.
Sometimes ago, I decided to develop a web application for managing twitter accounts. I chose a name “tweever” because it’s very close to twitter and you have to admit it really sounds nice. Here’s where I messed up, I didn’t check the meaning of the word tweever. I already designed a logo for it, only to find out later that the word tweever means someone who is retarded or stupid. It was funny to me because It wasn’t costly, some companies have spent a whole lot on branding only to find out a day before launch that their really treasured name means something else

Wrong Domain Extensions: This might seem like something everybody should know but choosing the right domain extension determines to a large extent how your customers view your business. Don’t buy a .ORG domain name when your company is a commercial organization. Many tech blogs now use the .IO extension, don’t use it when your blog is an entertainment blog.

Poor SEO targeting:
Choosing the right domain name could determine how easy or hard search engines would optimize your website. Try, if possible to use a word that would give a customer an idea of what your website is all about. A website like megawears would normally rank higher in search engines when someone searches “wears” than a website like megatrends that offers the same services. This doesn’t mean you can’t rank higher than someone with a targeted domain name.
There you have it, 6 costly mistakes to avoid when selecting a domain name.

Business / How To Improve Customer Service With Social Media by oshokay(m): 1:05pm On Apr 29, 2016
IMPROVING CUSTOMER SERVICE WITH SOCIAL MEDIA

Social Media has evolved beyond a platform meant for communication between loved ones and friends. Over time social media has become the primary means of creating awareness of a brand or product. Online marketing is just one of its major business applications, increasingly they have become platforms for consumers to receive customer services and lodge complains.
More than ever before business activities are performed over the internet, which has lead to an increase in the demand of “Social Care”. Over a billion people actively use social media platforms monthly, meaning some people virtually live ” in” social media platforms. What better place to offer customer services than people’s homes.
According to statistics, people tend to spend 21% more on a product when they get great customer services. Ignoring the importance of customer service to your business at best lead to you having little profit and at worst cause the death of your business. In this article we will consider ways of improving your customer services through social media and taking your business to the next level.

Know Where Your Customers Live
Ok maybe that was too dramatic, You don’t have to know the residential address of every one of your customers. Knowing where your customers live involves having accurate statistics of the social platforms majority of your consumers utilize. There are several social media platforms, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Linkedin to mention a few. Having this knowledge helps you focus on the right social platform when offering customer services. Focusing on the wrong platform is like putting stationery up for sale in a store known for sales of construction materials.
To Figure out where majority of your customers spend their time, Search for mentions of your business or words related to it. If by any chance no one has been talking about it, Trying to get involved in conversations related to your industry.

Your Customers Pay Your Salary

If It weren’t for your customers being so generous, you would probably be on a couch, staring at a wall (you wouldn’t be able to afford a TV) thinking about how you’ll get your next meal. Maybe that was too exaggerated, after all you also provide them services . Your customer’s satisfaction should be your number one priority because they do actually pay your salary.
Statistics have shown that customers who make complaints and inquires online expected to get a response before the end of the day. On twitter they are less patient, they expect to get a response in 2 hours. Giving timely replies to customers who either tweets complaints or make inquiries through direct messages show how much you appreciate them. Showing appreciation to your customers for buying your products or using your services helps you build a loyal customer base.
Know How To Deal With Situations
Customers sometimes can be very hard to deal with when trying to deal with them physically. Social platforms aren’t exceptions, in fact it could be said to be worse since anybody can say anything they want or feel like on the internet. In the light of this you should know how to deal with situations when they arise.
Don’t ever delete or hide negative comments from a customer. The only exception to this is when it is considered a spam of a violation of the rules of the community. Deleting a post or comment would just cause the customer to be more infuriated and further damage the relationship.
Don’t ever be defensive. Sometimes a customer might be at fault for not reading the terms and conditions of your service or product before using it and you might get defensive trying to explain this. Don’t do that, first thank them for bringing the complaint to your attention then in form of an apology explain to them why they are in that situation.
Don’t interact with customers whose primary aim is to argue and publicly try to brand your company badly. Sometimes your best defense might be just silence. At the end of the day, they’ll end up destroying their credibility than yours.
Constantly applying these guidelines will continue to improve your customer services and help you build a loyal and happy customer base.

Technology Market / 3 Reasons To Get A UK Used Device by oshokay(m): 3:53pm On Apr 09, 2016
New inventions flood into the technology market everyday. The rate at which tech is consumed has increased so rapidly that it seems like tech companies begin working on a new device the same day they release one, giving consumers almost no time to make use of those they already purchased.

These Tech companies advertise their new products so well even before the release that previous releases seem archaic. People change their devices as new ones roll out and sell their old devices if they need some extra cash. In developed countries like the UK, these devices get shipped to countries like Nigeria for sale.

Lots of people frown against these used devices or “London Used” as some refer to it because of one reason or the other. If you’re still indecisive on getting a new or “UK used” device,This article will help you decide. 3 reasons uk used devices are probably better than new ones.

YOU GET AN AMAZING DEAL
When people get new devices, they just want to let go of the old ones. They end up selling them at half if not less than half the price they purchased it. Good news for you right? And the thing is these devices offer the same value as the new ones if not more. To be safe, make sure you test a “UK used” device before buying one and even get a receipt if possible.

THEY ARE MORE DURABLE
People are definitely going to disagree on this one. It just logical right? How can something already used by someone be more durable than a new one? I disagreed with this until I became a victim to a new product. I bought an hp 15 Roo16nia last year December for 65,000. After about five months, my laptop went off on its own and didn’t come back on. On taking it to a pc care center, I was told my motherboard was fried and I had to replace it with a new one which would cost 25,000. To cut the story short, Instead of buying a new motherboard, I bought an Asus Ultra Slim laptop for just at Emaxie for just 50,000 naira. The laptop is so clean nobody ever believes it isn’t new. Here’s the amazing part, its specs are three times the previous one and way more beautiful. Instead of looking at a “Uk used” device as something someone already used, look at it as a device someone helped you test before handing over to you.

EASY TO RESELL
We’ve already established the fact that these “Uk used” devices are cheaper than new ones. Say you bought a UK used iPhone 6 for about 70,000 naira, a neat one makes it even better. You would sell the phone if you have the intentions to for almost the same price if not more. The buyer probably won’t even have an idea the device isn’t “From The Box”.

There you have it 3 reasons to get a UK used device.

Art, Graphics & Video / How To Become A Graphic Designer In 4 Steps by oshokay(m): 9:36am On Mar 10, 2016
Graphic design is not a new phrase in the Tech industry. It has become a phrase used for any pictorial representation produced with a computer. Graphic design is also a very lucrative profession, as everything used online and offline requires a touch graphics. From adverts to web design to app development, graphics is needed. For those interested in diving into the world of graphics and don’t know where to start, Here’s an article to give you a head start.

Focus on An Area of Graphic Design: Graphic design is a very broad field. Web development, advertising, animation are forms of graphics design and you have to choose which area you would love to specialize in because without focus, You have no direction.

Acquire the tools: At this point you should already know some of the tools you’ll be needing. To start, you’ll need a laptop (obviously!!) and a mouse for ease and comfort. If you use a mouse regularly, there’s no denying the fact that it’s extremely easier to use a laptop with a mouse than a Touchpad.

To showcase your creativity and how awesome you are through graphics you’ll need few software. You can start off with two major software, Corel Draw and Photoshop.

If you have the intention of designing logos, flyers, banners and the likes, The best choice will be to start with Corel Draw. There’s no limitation to what you can produce with Corel, It all depends on the creativity of the user.

So you don’t really like designing logos or banners, you’re more of a picture person. You have more love for editing and altering images, Photoshop is the software for you. Photoshop is also limitless when it comes to altering images.

Read Books / Watch Videos: The internet is a mine field of publications to help you start your career as a graphic designer. You could be a hard copy person, buy books that would teach you design fundamentals and practice as you read them.

So you hate reading and tend to memorize better when you see things in motion, welcome to the 21st century where we have YouTube. Tons of videos you can use are available online.

Study the Pros: You’re reading a magazine and you see a lovely graphic design, don’t say “awwwnnnn” and close the magazine. Take note of the design, try to recreate it, make it better, and add a touch of your style.

Expand your scope of design, check out fashion websites, music labels, and book stores even jewelry designs. Don’t limit yourself to the traditional “graphic design”.

Remember that old saying “Practice makes better”, graphic design isn’t an exception. Continue practicing and you’ll become an awesome graphic designer.

NYSC / NYSC Will Stop Posting Engineers To Secondary Schools To Teach by oshokay(m): 7:44pm On Jan 16, 2016
The National Youth Service Corps has made plans to stop the posting of engineers to secondary schools to teach with other places where engineering isn’t the primary assignment. The agreement was reached by the Directorate of NYSC and Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN).

At the pre-inauguration stakeholders’ workshop of the 30th President of the Nigerian Society of Engineers held recently in Abuja, the President of COREN, Engineer Kashim A. Ali, said that the Council has secured an agreement with the Director General(DG) of the National Youth Service Corps(NYSC) to what he referred to as “prevent the wrong training and orientation of Engineers”. The Director of Mobilization of NYSC has also been informed of the new development and has made provisions necessary for the success of the policy. The COREN president said that,

“Posting engineers during their service year to places they will not benefit is depriving them the opportunity of training and by implication the country is losing. The DG of NYSC agreed with us and directed the Director of Mobilization to ensure that engineers are posted to only engineering institutions.

He went further to say,

“To help him, the Director of Mobilization requested that we should assist to give them the names of engineering organizations in all the states of the federation so that when they are doing their posting they will send them to such places.”
Posting graduates of every discipline to teach in schools have become a tradition in Nigeria and this has resulted to a negative effect on the Nigerian educational system which becomes obvious when these young graduates enters the Nigerian Labour market.

This policy would be a major step in Nigeria’s education system and we hope it gets enforced.

Phones / Innjoo 2 : The Iphone 6 Copy Cat by oshokay(m): 12:07pm On Dec 26, 2015
If you’re familiar with the Innjoo one, there’s no denying
that it has a striking resemblance with an iphone. Innjoo
has decided to be more detailed with their 2016 Flagship
release “innjoo 2“ with an extreme resemblance with the
iphone 6. The tech company has been determined to get the
attention of Nigerian market and with the innjoo 2, I
think they will.
Innjoo one
Even though the innjoo 2 is an iphone 6 look alike, there
are still differences. I’ll be pointing out the similarities
and differences between this two beauties.
Body & Design:
What better way to copy a phone than its shape and design.
The innjoo comes with the beautiful curve which apple
launched the iphone 6 series with. It also has a fingerprint
scan feature, but unlike the iphone 6, the innjoo 2 has it’s
fingerprint scan button behind it . Another difference is
the button placements. Iphone 6 has its volume rockers on
the left and the audio jack at the bottom, the innjoo 2 has
its volume rockers on the right and its audio jack on top of
it. One thing innjoo copied though is the speaker design
below the iPhone. I don’t blame them though, that design
is too beautiful to ignore.
The innjoo 2 has a larger display with a 5 inch display
against the iphone 6’s 4.7 inch display. It is also lighter
than the iphone with 126g against the iphone’s 129g.
Innjoo wins the body contest yaaay!!! Well not really since
they copied most of the thing.
CAMERA:
The innjoo 2 brags a stunning rear and front camera of
13MP with double flash in front. Your selfie can’t get any
better right? The iphone 6 on the other hand has an 8MP
rear camera with a 1.2 in front.. You’re probably thinking
now innjoo beat iPhone’s camera? Well if there’s anything
I’ve learnt from devices, it’s that sometimes Megapixels
are just numbers. An iPhone’s 8 mega pixels might be
better than an innjoo.
DISPLAY:
The iphone 6 murdered the innjoo with a 750 X 1334 pixels
display against the innjoo 2’s 720 x 1280 display. Thumbs
up to the iphone.
BATTERY:
Ok the so the iphone came with a 1810mAh battery, the
innjoo 2 comes with a 3200 mAh battery, which means
longer life than the iphone 6. Sorry again iphone..
TECHNOLOGY:
So the iphone comes with a dual core 1.4ghz processor with
1gb ram. The innjoo 2 on the other hand brings to the table
an Octacore 1.6ghz processor with 2gb ram.. Am still a
little unsure which is better here, I know mtk processors
aren’t the best out there but common dual core to octa
core? And the difference in the Ram…What do you
think?

D’banj who not too long ago got an endorsement deal
with one of Nigeria’s Largest distributors of mobile
phones has revealed he and Donjazzy planned on
dropping a song even before 2baba pleaded with them
to come back together to give fans a last collaboration
of the Legends. In an exclusive chat with Potpourri
(Vanguard), D’banj said, ‘Glo has said they will sponsor
it, even before 2Face begged us. We’re already working
on something great that you guys will love; and I
guarantee you will hear it very soon. I believe that
with 2Face saying it that day, it represents the voice of
the people. You have to also know that since it’s my
10th year anniversary, it’s also Don Jazzy’s 10th year
as well. Don Jazzy is my brother now when it comes to
endorsement as Diageo endorsed him too. We can even
go on a tour together; what do you think?’

Politics / Obasanjo Is A Liar & Economic Illiterate - Wole Soyinka by oshokay(m): 6:36am On Aug 29, 2015
Professor Wole Soyinka has taken another strike at the former president Olusegun Obasanjo of Nigeria, by calling him as a liar and economic illiterate. The Nobel Prize Award Winner said this while responding to questions during a programme titled ‘An evening with Wole Soyinka’,Obasanjo is entitled to his opinion, he said But the question is: ‘Who respects the opinion of a liar?’I can spend the whole night proving that he is a liar. Obasanjo was once described by an economist, the late Prof Ojetunji Aboyade, as an economic illiterate. They nearly ‘went into blow’ that night. It was Prof. Mabogunje who separated them.“So, if an economic illiterate calls somebodya political illiterate, no problem at all.“In ‘ My Watch’, Obasanjo told the first lie when he said he deplored lies. Anybody who said he never plotted to have an unconstitutional third term inoffice, even as a writer, I need a word to describe him.”
