CareerRe: Top 10 Most Demanded Jobs In The Oil And Gas Industry by Osinitu(m): 12:21pm On Sep 08, 2014
Tiimmy: You are absolutely correct!

First off, I never knew it was even possible to have a first degree in Project Management. That been said, I guess you should be looking at three major key areas that are also "BIG" in the oil and gas industry (although they didnt make Xfire's list grin).

1. Project Department
2. Planning Department
3. Cost Controls Dept.

Lemme break it down alittle.. Most Oil and Gas companies, prefer to have Engineering graduates occupy their project departments, and the hierarchy in this department doesnt really favor graduates with non-engineering background. Most project Managers start off as "Project Engineers" or discipline engineers (Mechanical, Electrical, IC&A, subsea engineers etc) before making the climb-up to the "Manager" status.

In order words, your P.M.I, CAPM or P.M.P with zero experience and zero engineering acumen just wont cut it (for most oil and gas companies).

Cost controls department on the other hand is absolutely rare, as a matter of fact i've only heard of this position in SPDC and SNEPCO (dont know how true though), but ive seen for my self, these dept in some companies servicing SPDC. Its a very delicate department and (based on my little research) only people with extremely vast experience in Project management and Planning occupy these positions.

That leaves us with "Planning" department. In my opinion this is probably your best bet, to breaking into the oil & Gas industry (with respect to your 1st degree that is). Although (as expected most planners have engineering background), I know some "Planning Engineers" with zero engineering experience, making big bucks in the oil and gas industry.

I would advice you go learn the "PRIMAVERA" software (and may be MS-PROJECT) to boost your chances, as this is the number one software mostly used in these departments.

Except you want to venture into other areas like H.S.E, Safety etc, I believe to a very large extent that these areas i've highlighted, are probably the ones you should look to break into.

All the best sire....

Why is no one talking about planning engineering and project control in the O and G industry, that's also a lucrative area.
CareerRe: Top 10 Most Demanded Jobs In The Oil And Gas Industry by Osinitu(m): 6:46am On Aug 30, 2014
Nice thread xfire, this is very creative of you.
How lucrative is planning in the oil and gas industry, I'm referring to Project Control or if you like Project Management?

aphyz2709: It was an email from Anthony Olaegbe. I looked him up on LinkedIn and facebook for confirmation. And he happened to be that slim bristow guy that was at the test venue.
Oga abeg please be serious, how come you are the only person that got the invite, that's not Bristow's style, they send both success and failure mails.
PoliticsRe: The Top 3 APC Presidential Candidates To Watch Out For! - CramJones exclusive! by Osinitu(m): 5:26pm On Jan 10, 2014
cramjones: So far I have enjoyed the discuss on this forum. I don't expect everyone to agree with me, however, I expect decorum and respect. That said, I respect opposing views as well as views that support me. I will say it again, I am trying to create a movement of youths that would realize that this present government beyond 2015 will destroy Nigeria for good. We must vote the hawks out! In the coming weeks you may not hear from me, because I will be very engaged in some important personal and party activities both in Nigeria and outside Nigeria.

Remember, I have lots of deep stuff to share as we edge towards the elections....It's going to be tough, its going to be dirty, there would be more massive corruption revelations, uncovering of arms smugglers in the government, illicit relationships among ministers, Stella Oduah's story won't be over with a wave of the hand; Stick with me during this time and you will be much more informed and ready for the eventualities that will unfold in Nigeria. I am CramJones the strong insider in the APC!
Mr Man,how much were u paid, and what's your stake in all this? Where exactly are you from self?
PoliticsRe: The Top 3 APC Presidential Candidates To Watch Out For! - CramJones exclusive! by Osinitu(m): 6:44pm On Jan 09, 2014
Ikengawo: be honest with yourself. None of these men can win a single southern vote, where as Fashola can win northern votes because the WORLD likes the guy. Buhari lost the entire south last time and is the most popular of all of these men. Kwankwaso will in Jigawa, Sokoto and Kano, and Tambuwal's local government is unknown to even his fellow state's men (which ever state that is)

Southerners have tricked themselves into thinking they need the north more than that north needs them. Do you truly believe in your heart that Tambuwal is more popular in Nigeria than Fashola?

ACN presenting a northern candidate will only make their yoruba constituency completely apathetic. If APC is a north SW alliance, APC will only have the core north to lean on while SE SS and middle belt will vote, passionately, for PDP.
Plain bitter truth!!!
Nobody is Nigeria is more popular than Jonathan, but the closest in name in Fashola. If Fashola runs many in the middle belt and SS will ever consider voting for him. The deportation sage ruined his brand with the SE but he'll still win votes there. He will also win the anti GEJ northern places. Who the south knew about Kwankwaso before this past 30 days?
plain,bitter truth

I agree with you to some extent, but my concern has always been that the 'so-called' companies that employ based on merits don't give others an opportunity to prove themselves. By others I mean graduates with lower degrees like second class lower and first class. These days a lot of people get first class and second class upper through different means, the mere fact that an individual graduated with first class doesn't necessarily imply that he's better that his colleagues who graduated with lower degrees,in my own opinion He's just opportuned to make. A way for himself at that particular time. Don't get me wrong,I'm not justifying graduates with lower degrees I'm just saying that they also deserve to be considered let everybody be placed on a level playing ground and then defend what he claims to have bagged in the higher institution. It is on this basis that I can say push or drives people to go through the back door, although corruption also comes to play but I guess little or nothing can be done on the part of the poor graduates. God help us

[quote author=x-fire]Nice contribution, however there's a big difference between IT placement and job placement. While many organizations may reward their loyal staffs and friends with IT placement for their wards, same can not be said for job placement. Recruitment for full time positions in most of the companies are purely by merit. [/quoteNot anymore bro,not in Nigeria of today although there are still job you get by merit and God's favour but most jobs these days are got by connection
