Politics › Re: Yorubas Littered With Homeless Beggars, All Children And Women by osisi2(f): 12:02am On Jan 26, 2009 |
There is a social malaise which is gradually creeping into the lexicon of Yorubaland and this is the ugly spectre of hungry children begging for food and alms at social events. Older women are equally not left out in this ugly but strange practice in Yorubaland. It is strange in Yorubaland because the concept of almajiri which simply means street urchin is common in the Northern part of the country. Yorubas use to refer derisively to anybody soliciting for arms in Yorubaland in the olden days as almajiri. The almajiri of the North are usually children between the age bracket of 7 and 20 in most cases. Almajiris are so desperate for food that any unsuspecting visitor to the Northern part of the country who goes to a restaurant to eat but mistakenly left his food to wash his hands is likely to lose such to waiting almajiris before he comes back for the food.
I first noticed this ugly trend at a ceremony I attended a few months ago at Ayetoro Ekiti. Elderly and middle aged able bodied women from Kwara, Osun and Oyo states invaded the burial ceremony uninvited and were embarrassing guests who refused to give them money. Also noticeable were children with their begging bowls who thronged the venue of the ceremony soliciting for left over food and alms. The children were a pitiable sight. Poverty was clearly written on their faces. I have attended many social functions after that and the same trend was noticeable. But I became worried a few days ago, when I attended the burial ceremony of a friend's father in Ilesha , Osun State . They came in various groups and employ different methods in soliciting for alms. There were the elderly women who were busy harassing guests in the name of praise singing and would not leave until you part with money, there were the men with their public address system which they use in praise singing but which is disturbance and yet, there were Yoruba children in the mould of almajiris with their begging bowls scrambling for left-over and at the same time soliciting for alms.
Fellow guests on my table at the event who were also journalists expressed their concern in unison about the growing trend of almajiri of various categories in Yorubaland. They all agreed that it has become a social problem. We started discussing and realised that the culture of begging in the mould of almajiris is alien to Yoruba culture . This highlighted part says it all. I can almost bet my bakassi that these folks are Muslims. I'm not saying that there are non Muslim beggars but we all know that mass beggars in almajirism is entrenched in In Islamic Nigeria. Too bad the trend has headed south amongst their counterparts there. |

The rate of political assasinations in Nigeria esp Western Nigeria is alarming. This is so sad. A whole Chief Justice of a nation was assasinated in cold blood and no one saw a thing. Our nation is in a sorry state. That can happen anywhere in Naija though a lawless nation |

asha 80: And where are the educationally disadvantaged regions?I ask this question because the ethnic group that is said to be leading in education is said to be the ethnic that does not take education seriously.People always say that they prefer trading to education. So why would an ethnic group that people say prefer trading to education seem to be leading in education? don't mind them and stereotypes. Igbos don't go to school yet they lead amongst those that go to school go figure |

A severe stroke in September 1990 left Wall unable to move, with a feeding tube surgically implanted in his stomach. He was told that he would probably never preach, eat or function normally again. Then, Wall got the worst news he was HIV-positive.
Earlier, during four months of therapy to regain his capacities, Wall had received numerous blood products and accidentally acquired the deadly virus. In January 1991, he prepared for surgery that would reattach his stomach to his esophagus.
"When the doctor told me that he had bad news for me, I wasn't surprised. After all, it was the day before the worst surgery of my life," said Wall. "But I never expected to hear that I was HIV-positive. I thought he was crazy."
The doctor made sure there was no error; he had double-tested. Wall went ahead with the surgery and spent nearly a month in intensive care. His signs of recovery after experiencing kidney, lung and vascular failure amazed doctors.
Wall asked the doctors to administer another HIV test. "At first, my physician thought I was living in denial," he said.
The doctor performed five separate tests and sent them to three different laboratories. They all confirmed Walls' belief: He no longer tested positive for HIV.
Wall and wife Diane recently had their sixth child, Hunter, who is also HIV-negative.
"They all said that I was never going to be able to walk, eat or live," Wall said. "Now I can eat at McDonald's, Wendy's or anywhere I want. When you put God into the equation, anything is possible. If you take Him out, you get stuck with what naturally happens." http://www.inthenameofjesus.org/Testimonies/Christians%20healed%20of%20Aids.htm |

From Australia David Harp healed of HIV-AIDS. Doctor's letter said, "This is a miracle."
David's session, Jesus is a Light to my feet, left the delegates shaking their heads with their jaws dropping to the floor.
David shared how God's mercy and grace through faith in Jesus redeemed him from a homosexual lifestyle, severe drug addiction, suicidal tendencies and full blown HIV-AIDS and brought him back to the Church and ministry in FMI. http://www.flameministries.org/news22.htm |

From Malawi John, who said he had been sick for sometime testified that evangelists from United States of America visited his home and prayed for him. He could, however not remember the names of those who prayed for him. He said he felt a numbness in his whole body .A day later he saw that he started doing work he previously could not do. He then went again for laboratory tests at Queens Elizabeth Central Hospital in Blantyre to verify if he has really been healed.
TO his surprise ,he was found HIV negative after they had found him HIV positive two months earlier.
He then went to testify to the evangelists who had prayed for him. They then decided that he should have another test after another three months. He was found negative again.
.After several months he went for another test.He was found negative again Commenting on the issue ,a doctor at the hospital confirmed about the tests saying it is a mystery. However Pastor Chrissie of Bethsaid Church said it is not news. "What is strange here?
I am a living example. My husband was found with HIV/AIDS before marriage.I do not have the virus. This is now over twelve years. Believe in Jesus," he commented. http://www.groundreport.com/World/Man-gets-healed-from-HIV-AIDS |

From an American singer Dewayne Woods I am not on any medications. I am completely healed and I go back often (for a check up) and it's not a lack of faith it's just that you want to make sure that while you are giving out this type of testimony that things continue to stay documented. I was diagnosed and the same doctor that diagnosed me treated me for many years. So one day I just went to the doctor and I said you know what God I believe you and if I'm gonna sing about you being a healer then I believe that you have the ability to heal me. So I'm the type of person that when you change your passion and you decide you are gonna really give everything over to God it pushes Him to work on your behalf. That's exactly what happened. (with me) I went away and worked on my relationship (with God) I was sick in the hospital, away from home and I just sat up in the bed late at night and I would sing. I would sometimes be the only one awake and I would just sing to the Lord. I just felt the Lord really begin to work in my body. When you really believe and trust God completely he will work wonders in your life. I went back to the doctor a few years later and the same doctor who diagnosed me ran the test and sat me down and said 'Well you tested negative" and it baffled them. http://www.bellaonline.com/articles/art47832.asp |

From Nigeria Daily we got into serious praise, worship and prayers in our bedroom for at least one hour. In the morning, our alarm clock is set to 5am, giving as a minimum of another one hour of prayer, praise and worship before I would start to prepare to go to work. We worked this system both weekdays and weekends. We now knew and believed what the Bible said about our healing, the importance of what we say and how to act on our faith.
In the next visit to the doctor, the doctor was quite adamant - my wife would have to start on the drugs. My wife was just as adamant. She told the doctor about my results, and that she was no longer infected with AIDS. He was quite candid - patients once they tested positive on this test - remained positive. But we knew that we are not ordinary; we are children of GOD, healed by the stripes of Jesus, praise and glory to His mighty Name! And, rather than argue, the doctor agreed to do fresh HIV tests on my wife.
All the tests came back negative! My wife was healed! Needless to say the doctor had a hard time explaining this. But we know our God is our healer: He healed our son, my wife and myself—also our baby (who we named after Tim’s wife) was born completely healthy. http://www.tgm.org/HealedFromAidsFG.html |

Is God a healer? I believe He is He can heal cancers, hemorrhoids, barreness.
He also can heal HIV.
Let these testimonies build up someone's faith for themselves or a loved one. Don't let the naysayers discourage you. |

Not all HIV+ people are placed on medications right away But that is not her decision to make. She needs to go to a center that handles this, get her CD4 count and viral load determined The CD4 is basically telling the amont of antibodies she has to fight infections and if they are still within normal ranges like that of a non infected person, she may not need medications but she has to be monitored constantly to be placed on medications immediately they begin to drop to dangerous levels and gets into frank AIDS then the case becomes almost hopeless (but for God's intervention) @ the poster, please try to convince her to get to a clinic that handles such in Naija and keep her appointments and then pray that God heals her or at least keeps her CD4 within normal ranges for ever and her viral load very low or even negligible. |

davidylan: Released detainee now Yemen al-Qaida commander
WASHINGTON – A released Guantanamo Bay terror detainee has reemerged as an al-Qaida commander in Yemen, highlighting the dilemma facing President Barack Obama in shaping plans to close the detention facility and decide the fates of U.S. captives.
A U.S. counterterror official confirmed Friday that Said Ali al-Shihri, who was jailed in Guantanamo for six years after his capture in Pakistan, has resurfaced as a leader of a Yemeni branch of al-Qaida.
"By Allah, imprisonment only increased our persistence in our principles for which we went out, did jihad for, and were imprisoned for," he said in a video posted on a militant-leaning Web site Friday. It was the second time this week a reference to al-Shihri has shown up on the Web site. He was mentioned in an online magazine on Jan. 19 with a reference to his prisoner number at Guantanamo, 372.Al-Shihri was released by the U.S. in 2007 to the Saudi government for rehabilitation. But this week a publication posted on a militant-leaning Web site said he is now the top deputy in "al-Qaida in the Arabian Peninsula," a Yemeni offshoot of the terror group headed by Osama bin Laden. The group has been implicated in several attacks on the U.S. Embassy in Yemen's capital Sana.
The announcement from the militant site came the same day that President Barack Obama signed an executive order directing the closure of the jail at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, within a year. You see why I think closing down Guantamo in a haste may mean releasing these confirmed wild animals into the streets. These people are misfits. These are probably adults who lacked proper nurturing at home since all they saw was some pervert who called himself a father impregnating 4 women and several temporary wives at the same time. What morals did he learn from a father who had no time for him or a mother who was busy perfuming her private part with spices to out do the other co wives? They ought to be dealt with mercilessly |
