Since inception in 2014, BVN has been one of the crucial aspects of Banking in Nigeria and without it no access to money in the bank. Thus, have put together top 100 BVN FAQs to answer your questions.

(1) Can BVN be Done twice?

No, once done you can only update your BVN information via your bank.

(2) Can BVN be hacked

No, BVN only contains verified information about you for banking and financially related use. Thus, it does not in itself get hacked.

(3) Can BVN number be changed

No, It is permanent.

(4) Can BVN be blocked

No, Account linked to it in a certain Bank can be blocked if you do against their banking terms but your BVN is a unique code identifying your data on BVN database. Thus, it does not get blocked. See the next question for more info.

(5) Can BVN be Blacklisted?

Yes, if you get an instant loan in Nigeria without Collateral for example but play smart and refused to repay your loan. Then, the loan app company could report your BVN to Credit Bureau whom in turn Blacklist it to prevent other lending platforms to give you a loan in future if they checkup you BVN with them. It can also affect getting jobs and employment in the future. Thus, I will advise any platform that requests your BVN before granting you access should be treated with care to make sure you don't leave a bad reputation that could cause your BVN to be blacklisted.

(6) Can BVN be used To Steal Money

No, your BVN does not directly give others access to your bank account to withdraw offline or spend your money online without your approval. Though it is advisable you don't give it out anyhow and when suspicious of anything relating to misuse of you BVN, report to your Bank(s) immediately.

(7) Can BVN be Done Online

No, that will elude the trust as people can easily manipulate it thereby reducing the credibility and the reliability of it. Get in touch with your Bank for details.

( Can BVN be used To transfer Money

No, BVN is different from you Bank transfer functions. Don't forget that one BVN code is unique and therefore same across all banks in Nigeria. Though, when you want to transfer via your bank involving huge some they may demand BVN just to verify the account.

(9) Can BVN name be changed

No and Yes.

No, because you are not expected to be changing your name like changing cloth  � and one of the credibility of BVN is to ensure your identity remains validatable by any third party that needs to without your interference.

Yes, due to things like marriage, name change etc. in such situation you will need to get some solid proof to back your claim that you are changing the name as requested by the BVN terms (Check on your Bank for details).

(10) Can BVN date of birth be changed

No, It is illogical, what changes your date of birth (I guess nothing) but in case you have the wrong DOB on your BVN when first registered, then you can check with your bank to help update with the actual date of birth with proof (usually government-issued birth certificate might be requested).

(11) Can BVN be updated

Yes, you can request to update the information coded in the BVN code but the code itself remains unique and same. 

(12) When Did BVN start in Nigeria

BVN started in February 24th, 2014

(13) Which year Did BVN start

BVN started officially in the year 2014 (February 14th)

(14) Do BVN Online

Nope, check with your bank instead.

(15) How To Do BVN

Visit your bank to register. Once done with one Bank, your code is valid across other Banks.

(16) Where To Do BVN in UK

Kindly speak to the Bank where you hold an account in Nigeria for help as it differs from one Bank to another.

(17) How To Do BVN on Phone

Dail *565*0# to check you BVN on phone registered with your Bank.

(18) Can I Do BVN twice

Yes, BVN expires after 10 years and you need to re-enroll again. I personally thought this is to ensure any changes in your data like address and others are up-to-date.

Have you actually been able to operate a Paypal account verified with a VCC continuously freely in this era (as in the past few weeks to months), without Paypal limiting it?

I'm asking cos i heard Paypal has caught onto the fact that people are using VCCs to verify accounts, so they actively set mechanisms in place to detect it and limit any accounts opened with VCCs, once cash has started going in and out of the account.

Using VCC for paypal is not recommended except if its a one time use account.
if not its better to follow guides like this to open Paypal nigeria account that can receive and make payment without hassle.

I'm more concerned with the Business Accounts - for accepting payments for products/services online.

It is not new that Paypal still remains one of the viable means of receiving Payment by any Business that serve customers beyond the four corners of Nigeria. Once you cross the border, your best fastest and trusted source will require you add up Paypal or lose opportunities out there.

But its also very painful considering the tough and frustrating limitations of Nigeria Paypal account for Business - indeed it's a no-go area.

Thus, how then do you receive payment with Paypal Account as a Business in Nigeria?

I will answer it to the best of what have tried and tested myself, not copy pasted from any Nairaland thread or other sources. So, in case I make any mistake or Paypal GURUs on Nairaland reading this sees it as cheat so be it for them I don't care (but also ready to learn more from you if you share your knowledge as comment constructively) - Am simply sharing what is working for me.

Steps involved:

(1) Open a verified business account that you can use with rest of mind in Nigeria:
If you plan a long time business and do not have anyone to handle your account trustworthy in the USA, UK etc I will advise you stay away from those because they will give you more headache than the solution and eventually you may hit Paypal ban or limitation usually caused by IP change, verification documents etc. I have already discussed how I opened verified Nigeria Business PayPal account and using it for my Business (even use it to withdraw from freelance platforms like Fiverr and Pay for/renew domain on Namecheap etc.) here for free in case you don't know how. For those that have it, let us move on.

(2) Paypal link (best option if you don't have a website or want to receive direct payment on or off your website) -
You can have a link like this PayPal.me/Foskaay (screenshot of this page attached below) for your business and your customer can enter any amount they want to send you in it. Paypal will lead them to login into their account and pay to you in few seconds. You get paid in your verified business account instantly.

(3) Paypal Button
You can add the Paypal button to your website

(4) Paypal payment integration
You can also integrate it just like (3) above to receive payment from your customers through both Paypal funds and credit/debit card.
