The power situation has improved especially in areas where people commit to paying bills regularly and so thereby get pre paid meters.

Here in my area of Port Harcourt we enjoy such improved electricity supply even though some Nigerians have decided to be evil by engaging in electricity theft.

When MTN gives you a SIM card, you can buy any type of phone but for electricity even if you buy any type of prepaid meter, the DISCOS will have to integrate that meter into its network.

NERC should go beyond this to tell us the framework and policy covering meter, currently one of my colleagues meters refused to work and he has called PHED to no avail. Typical of Nigerian offices they referred him to Obi Wali then to Garden City New at Eliozu and finally they sent him to Moscow road, despite all the letters he wrote, it is going to 3 months without electricity in his flat. The policy we understand says if your meter is faulty the DISCO will connect you directly to the pole and charge you a nominal fee not exceeding what you normally pay for until such a time as the issue is rectified but alas this people keep frustrating the young man and his family.
