Very pathetic set of humans
The OP is aware of what I'm saying, except if she wants to lie to herself. Who cares if the whole world convert to islam? Definitely not me. If you've not noticed, she only realized Yahweh "doesn't answer her prayers" after she married a moslem. Now let's go back in time and assume for a second that she didn't lose her first husband. What do we have? She would still be a christian. I really don't have time to take her on herother claims (I only engage fellow christians on biblical topics/issue. You won't see me argue religion with you, for instance, knowing you're a moslem, except you specifically ask my opinion), but this is a fact. The belief she holds now as opposed to what she used to, is none of my business, I just want to point out the fact that her primary reason for conversion is marriage. At least, her story points to this submission.

@OP, I noticed you used to go to Church (I'm assuming you didn't make this story up). But being a Christian goes beyond attending Church services, being an Evangelist, a worker in the vineyard and praying in Jesus name.
We can not hold God responsible for our problems- we are responsible for most of it and we should the mess ourselves. If you missed plan for a blissful married life and had to remain single for 10years after graduating from College, and even lost your Husband four years after then, how is this the fault of the Christian God? Pride and your false sense of an ideal mate was most probably the reasons you had late marriage. And because of frustration and your I-must-marry attitude, you ended up marrying the person- with a short lifespan. If you're honest with yourself, the same you married your moslem husband under this same mindset.
I can't go further than this without being incoherent, but I'd say, you're a moslem now because you needed to get married. This aside, you'd still be a church-goer. You know this.

If Jesus is the Lord of the Sabbath, that means, Sabbath is the Lord's day as rightly called and this is not a licence for anyone to profane it. Yes, you can do some works on the Sabbath on the doctrine of necessity and human needs, but not doing things that could be done on any other day, like going on shopping or washing. And besides, the Bible Sabbath has and will always be our Saturday.

Why should one day be holier than others? Worship God everyday and everywhere and stop this dogma you are spreading.
The sabbath has and will always be Saturday.

oga, these are the words of Jesus concerning law

Matthew 5:17-19 KJV
Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil.
[18] For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled.
[19] Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven: but whosoever shall do and teach them , the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.
The Law Jesus is talking about here is the Ten Commandments, not ceremonial laws. They are two different laws. Paul was referring to the ceremonial laws being stamped out by the sacrifice Jesus made, while Jesus is referring to the Moral Law as forever and eternal.

May be you have comprehension issue since you decided to ignore the latter part of that verse which says everything we have is from God. This is consistent with the fact that the Spirit of God is the source of our the life we have. For emphasis. The word "Emi" in Yoruba (same pronunciation) means Spirit and also. Life. The "mi" means, to breath. May be you should use your local language to understand the context of what the Bible means by Spirit. It's nothing more than the life you have. Bros, if we spend as much time teaching Christians to know what Pride is, and to avoid it, if we teach against Lust, Anger, Arrogance, bitterness, revenge, envy, unforgiveness, lasciviousness, licentiousness, gossip, corruption, hatred, and the rest of these spirits which have invaded the lives of believers and rendered them spiritually redundant, they would be better Christians than waste quality time arguing which days to worship or not.
The same Law that points us to all these vices is the same Law that points us to that day our Creator wants us to spend with Him. Relationships are built on time, so we can't wish away the Law concerning Sabbath. If you love God, follow His commandments. And the Sabbath commandments happens to be only Law that contains the seal of our Creator.

Worship was restricted to the Temple by the Jews, when Jesus came, what did he say? Worship God everywhere and anywhere, so also with days. Worship or fellowship with God everyday and anyway.
This is the gospel according to you, not Jesus.
Jesus and His apostles kept the Sabbath.
What does Christ’s personal example teach us about the Sabbath?
“So He came to Nazareth, where He had been brought up. And as His custom was, He went into the synagogue on the Sabbath day, and stood up to read” (Luke 4:16).
Jesus used the Sabbath for its intended purpose: to help people develop a personal relationship with their Creator.
After His death, we see that Christ’s apostles followed His example in their observance of the Sabbath day.
“Then Paul, as his custom was, went in to them, and for three Sabbaths reasoned with them from the Scriptures” (Acts 17:2).
“And [Paul] reasoned in the synagogue every Sabbath, and persuaded both Jews and Greeks” (Acts 18:4).
Today, however, most people who profess to follow Christ do not follow the example set by Him and His apostles.
The word shabbath, means “to cease, to pause or take an intermission.” On the Sabbath we are to take the day off from our regular activities and devote our time and attention to our Creator. Why? Because “in six days theLORD made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, and rested the seventh day. Therefore the LORD blessed the Sabbath day and hallowed it” (Exodus 20:11).

You are arguing about days of worship, but refuse to see that God has not rejected us. The Holy Spirit is more alive now than ever, he reveals Himself through the revelations of His words. Miracles are happening everyday.
Revelation 13:14 ...'And he DECEIVED them that dwell on the earth by the means of those miracles which he had power to do.'

Miracles signs and wonders are not signs of God's acceptance or salvation, doing God's will is.
Matthew 7:22-23 “Many will say to me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and in your name drive out demons and perform many miracles?’ Then I will tell them plainly, ‘I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!'

Why is the Sabbath important in this latter days? Because in keeping it, it shows who we truly worship. The feud between God and satan is all about worship, we as believers of God must not treat how God wants us to worship Him with levity.
Revelation 14:9-10 ...'And the third angel followed them, saying with a loud voice, If any man worship the beast and his image, and receive his mark in his forehead, or in his hand,..."
The challenges to the Sabbath command are views generated by the god of this present evil world. After all, satan wants us to accept these views because he hates God’s law. And no doubt, during the great tribulation, God's people will be identified, not by refusing a physical mark but by following His commandments: Revelation 14:12 ...'Here is the patience of the saints: here are they that keep the commandments of God, and the faith of Jesus.'
Straight after the third angel warns of receiving the beast's mark, he announces that those who don't receive the mark are those who are KEEPING GODS COMMANDMENTS and the faith of Jesus. In other words, the true remnant church of God are those who follow in Jesus' footsteps, and what did Jesus say? ...John 15:10 ...'If ye keep my commandments, ye shall abide in my love; even as I have kept my Father's commandments, and abide in his love.'... Are we not to follow Jesus? The sad thing is, the truth of God's law has been cast down by satan and many professing Christians are deceived into thinking that keeping God's Ten Commandments(especially the Sabbath command) is not important.
Satan will soon use his agents to institute a law that opposes the Law of God and this law will no doubt be the sunday law as against the Sabbath Command (this is already happening), may be then, you'll realise the importance of God designating a day of worship.

Bros i'm done here.

Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath days:
Colossians:2:16
Which are a shadow of things to come; but the body is of Christ.
Colossians:2:17

The Sabbath is a shadow of what to come. The real thing is here. Communion with the Holy Spirit everyday, anywhere anytime.
You mentioned meats and drinks and sabbaths and you think this sabbaths refers to the Sabbath of the 4th Commandment? The sabbath days being referred to here are yearly festivals like passover and so on. The Sabbath of the Moral Law is just a single day and can never be referred to as "sabbath days" or "sabbaths". The fact that this verse mentioned meats and drinks in the same category with this "sabbaths" makes it obvious that it is referring to ceremonial laws not the Ten commandments.

Matthew 5:17-18 ...'Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil. For verily I say unto you,Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled.'
Jesus Himself said that NOTHING shall pass away from the law until heaven and earth itself passes away (Matthew 5:17-18).
Has heaven and earth passed away? No, therefore the law (ten commandments) STILL STAND. And we know Jesus was talking about the ten commandments, because if we take Matthew 5 in context, then we can see from verse 21 onwards, He is teaching about the law contained in the ten commandments.
What we can say though is that the New Testament CONFIRMS the sabbath day commandment as still active in Matthew 12:8; Matthew 24:20; Luke 23:56; Acts 16:13.

And from historical facts, we know how sunday sabbath came to be:
"For although almost all churches throughout the world celebrate the mysteries on the Sabbath [7th day - Saturday] of every week, yet the Christians of Alexandria and at Rome,on account of someancient tradition, have ceased to do this."(Socrates, Ecclesiastical History, b.5, ch.22, found in Nicene and Post-Nicene fathers)
It is clearly evident from the New Testament itself (Acts 16:13, Matthew 28:1, Luke 23:56), and historical writings like above, that the true believers and followers of Jesus Christ kept the 7th day sabbath as per the 4th commandment.

The Word 'Therefore' in that context means, 'Considering all that Christ has now done, do not allow any one like DoctorAlien (lol)or the JW pull you back into what Christ has freed you from. Because, what the Law taught in the past was a Shadow of what Christ will do and now it's done'. That's the meaning of 'Therefore' in Colo 2:16.

Cc: TheUmbra, Processor1. i need help here.
The fourth commandment which talks about the Sabbath is part of the Moral Law (Law of Liberty), and can not be a shadow of anything.
The ceremonial laws which talks about festivals, rites, meats and drink is pointing to the sacrifice Jesus came to make. It is the ceremonial law that talks about the passover. And you know pretty well that passover is the real shadow of the sacrifice Jesus made in calvary.
You can not chisel out the 4th commandment out of the Ten. The same Law that says "thou shall not kill" is the same Law that states "remember the Sabbath".
Or are we to say "thou shall not kill" is also no longer applicable?
Revelation 11:19: "Then God's temple in heaven was opened, and within his temple was seen the ark of his covenant..."
In the above verse, John saw God's Temple opened in heaven. What did he see inside it? The Ark of Covenant. And what would you find inside this Ark? The two table stone of the Law including that which concerns keeping of the Sabbath.
This is to tell you it's for eternity.
And besides, throughout the NT, after the ascension of Jesus, all the Apostles kept the Sabbath according to the Law. The Catholic church actually instituted the observance of sunday, independent of the Scripture, don't rob Rome of their glory. They actually took the credit

That was a mistake, Lucian was of the antiochian school not the alexandrian,...
The church of rome never followed gnosticism, in fact the Roman Church condemned gnosticism in all its forms. The Roman Church was also in Communion with the jewish Church all through those centuries it is laughable you think the Roman Church hated the jewish christians. The church of antioch was also in Communion with the Church of rome during those centuries so it is surprising that you believe they were against each other.

The school at antioch were literalist when it came to scriptures, that is why Origen castrated Himself after literally reading that anything that causes sin should be cut off. This type of stupid interpretation usually causes trouble between the scholars and their bishop... Even lucian was out of Communion with his bishop several times until he came back to Communion under the bishop cyril. Lucian literalist interpretation was the seed bed for the arian heresy, lucian trained a host of heretics even he Himself wasn't a heretic, that and the fact that he didn't write is why he isn't popular.
The Roman church started well and was in communion with other bodies of Christ until they started mixing paganism with Christian doctrines.
John Mosheim testifies to this as follows:
He [Clement] himself expressly tells us in his Stromata, that he would not hand down Christian truth pure and unmixed, but "associated with, or rather veiled by, and shrouded under the precepts of philosophy"... the philosophy of the Greeks.

While Clement, with Pantaenus, mixed Christianity with paganism at Alexandria, Lucian founded at Antioch a school of Syrian theology.
Dr Williston Walker described the difference between Lucian teaching and that of the Alexandria allegorizing theologians
"With Antioch of this period is to be associated the foundation of a school of theology by Lucian, of whom little is known of biographical detail, save that he was a presbyter, held aloof from the party in Antioch which opposed and overcame Paul of Samosata, taught there from c. 275 to 303, and died a martyr's death in 312.... Like Origen, he busied himself with textual and exegetical labors on the Scriptures, but had little liking for the allegorizing methods of the great Alexandrian. A simpler, more grammatical and historical method of treatment both of text and doctrine characterized his teaching.
Note that Clement was the Teacher of Origen and they are both of Alexandria (the capital of gnosticism) and Rome has always been on the same page with Alexandria.

This is evident from the writing of Socrates a century after Lucian:
"For although almost all churches throughout the world celebrate the sacred mysteries on the Sabbath of every week, yet the Christians of Alexandria and at Rome, on account of some ancient tradition, have ceased to do this."

On why Lucian was not popular. Did you say he didn't write? Man, the transmission of the Received Text by Lucian with its unparalleled effects down through the centuries is enough a writing.

haha so if you subscribe to spirit as breath... in both OT NT, lets apply the logic to this verses
The word spirit as used in the OT and NT (ruah/pneuma) stands twice as often for the wind/power of God as it does for the breath/feelings/will of Man.
Basically, it means air, breath, wind, but it can be used in some other contexts. In the New Testament Pneuma is translated the following ways:
ghost, Ghost (with Holy), life, spirit, spiritual gift, spiritually, wind.

my breath must be darn horrible for God to need to sanctify it or rather paul wouldhave recommended close up for a clean breath. dont you think so grin
In your ignorance, you fail to know that the word used for bad breath in Job 19:17 is ruach which invariably will be translated as pneuma in greek...the same word translated as spirit in this verse.
The passage from 1 Thessalonians 5:23 lay emphasis clearly on the whole person, not on a person composed of three parts. For Godsake, the word translated as spirit in Rev. 11:11 is the same as that translated as "life" in Rev. 13:15. A glance through the pages of the Bible will tell you that spirit in some instances is being used to denote emotional states. This verse is another way saying "may you be kept blameless..."
If I say Jesus is my Lord and Savior, am I referring to two persons?

WOW so breath can speak okay oh angry

i thought its only persons with personality that can reason to ask for separation. awesome.
1 Cor 2:10b–12:
For the Spirit searches all things, even the deep things of God. For who among men knows the things of a man except the man’s spirit within him? So too, no one knows the things of God except the Spirit of God. Now we have not received the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, so that we may know the things that are freely given to us by God.

Did you get the message? The Spirit man may think he has is from God. So next time you read "my spirit" in reference to a man in the Bible, check the context.

otr see application of your spirit is breath.
addition

hmm if unclean breath is what must be casted out... then i guess instead of Christ wasting power casting out unclean breath He would have used close up toothpaste for a clean breath! grin
Now I expect you to know that "unclean spirit", not unclean "spirit" is a phrase meaning a demon/ghost. This a compound word that can not defined separately.

The word translated to soul in both the old and new testament refers to living being in both hebrew and greek. We die when God withdraws his breath (spirit)
Psalm 104:29-30 ...'Thou hidest thy face, they are troubled: thou takest away their breath, they die, and return to their dust. Thou sendest forth thy spirit, they are created: and thou renewest the face of the earth.'
Job 34:14-15 ...'If he set his heart upon man, if he gather unto himself his spirit and his breath; All flesh shall perish together, and man shall turn again unto dust.'
Thesalonian 5:23 does not prove otherwise.

The syraic orthodox Church and all the orthodox churches are ancient churches, they don't add up new doctrines, infact since they broke Communion with the Roman Church 1000yrs ago they have not adopted any Roman Catholic practice, they have their bishops with apostolic succession, they have valid sacraments and ancient doctrines.

The entire ancient Church always had mariology and saints and images and all these doctrines, that is why they are all similar to the Roman Catholic Church.

If you check the syraic orthodox Church of the 19th,18th 17th 16, 15, 14,..... 10... 8.. 6 5 4 3, 2... Century you will still meet these teaching.

In case you don't know lucian was a priest in the alexandrian Christian school, he was in Communion with bishop cyril, cyril was in Communion with the Roman pope.
That means
Lucian was a Catholic priest... Who had the misfortune of teaching heretics like arius.
There must be many Lucians, obviously. The one I'm referring to was never in Alexandria. The Lucian I'm talking about grew up in the churches of Judea. He founded a college at Antioch which strove to counteract the dangerous ecclesiastical alliance between Rome and Alexandria. Lucian opposed Alexandria's policies and for this has been bitterly hated and his name kept in the background.
"The Gnostic theology of Alexandria which was followed by the Church of Rome, was hostile to anything Jewish, even Jewish Christianity. Therefore it is safe to conclude from these historic developments that primitive Syrian Christianity was not organized after the pattern of the Church of Rome, but followed an evangelical Judean and Biblical type of church organization" (from the book, Truth Triumphant)
Historian Newman aptly describes the difference between the theology of Antioch and that of Alexandria:
"In the great christological controversies of the fourth and following centuries Alexandria and Antioch were always antagonists, Alexandria representing a mystical transcendentalism and promoting the allegorical interpretation of the Scriptures; Antioch insisting on the grammatico-historical interpretation of the Scriptures, and having no sympathy with mystical modes of thought."

If you offend me, ask for my forgiveness and I forgive you, that's one thing. But you to confess all your sins to me and I declare you are absolved of them all, is another.
If anyone can just declare a sinner, sinless, after listening to his/her confessions, of what purpose was the sacrifices for sin instituted by God for the Israelites? Of what purpose is the sacrifice Jesus made for mankind at calvary?
Anyone that's pretending to have the power to forgive your sins belongs to the anti christ system. You can't justify that with the Bible.

I'm talking about the Syriac church of the time following the time of the Apostles...before there is anything called catholic. I'm talking about the Syriac church of the 3rd century when Lucian edited the original greek NT manuscript (the Received Text). This edition preceeded the Latin Vulgate of the Roman Church. The wonderful man that did this job was never credited for it, just like many others. He and many others were never in agreement with any doctrine of the Catholic church. you are wrong. prophecy was used to edify the church but speaking in tongues edifies the individual which must not necessarily be done in the church.

then he goes on to state that in church, tongues spoken should be done but there should be interpretation else the speaker should speak to himself which results in him been edified via the spirit. in church tongues will sound like meaningless sound which it is to the hearers except there be an interpreter. that is what it is.

in conclusion, tongues is multifaceted. as a tool for evangelism, as a tool to speak mysteries to God, as a tool for self edification all in one. and no amoubt of denial by your type will change its usage. smiley
Note that your type of tongue can never be a tool for evangelism. Secondly, God doesn't require anyone to speak mysteries to him. Jesus already told us how to pray...simple, short, clear words without vain repetitions.
1 Cor. 14:14, Paul said your understanding is fruitless if you pray in an unknown language.
In the next verse, he now implies that the right thing is to pray and with the spirit with understanding. How then is he advocating self edification when he is telling you to seek that you may excel to the edifying of the Church? 1 Cor. 14:12

Have you heard about Peshitta? Meaning "simple". It's the Syriac translation of the New Testament dated to the time shortly after the death of the Apostles. It is still the authoritative Bible in large Eastern communities. It has nothing to do with the Catholic Church.
Lucian (AD 250-312), a renowned hebrew scholar worked on the text of the Old Testament, which he corrected from the original Hebrew. His version was adopted by the greater number of the churches of Syria and Asia Minor. Protestant denominations are built upon Lucian edition of the manuscript of the Greek New Testament sometimes called the Received Text. It is that Greek New Testament from which the writings of the apostles in Greek have been translated into English, German, Dutch, and other languages. During the Dark Ages, the Received Text was practically unknown outside the Greek Church.
They can not take credit for the compilation and translation of the Bible. The Church at Antioch had the truth directly from the Apostles. Rome was just a new comer. Don't mind the catholics.

Paul didn't have to give it the luxury of mention. The purpose of that chapter is to address the misuse of the gift of tongues by the Church in Corinth. Throughout the chapter, he advocated using that particular gift for the edification of the Church. In essence, he's ringing it into their ears that it's not for self-edification.
Until you see tongues for what it is (a human language) as it were in Acts 2, you won't realise that using tongues in private is useless.

As you can see, we do not have our OWN spirit or soul, but rather we basically have the spirit of God in us keeping us alive, and with that spirit in us, we ARE LIVING SOULS.

for your mind you think that the Holy Spirit that made paul write that verse was satirical ko? in your bid to discredit what your finite mind cant comprehend you allude to assumption.

okay if only church edification is accepted then my personal edification of the word most not be really valid as that of church...

orderliness is the bottom word of all paul is emphasising individual and collective edification should be done ... which we all see he does not FORBADE speaking in tongues and also he says anyone ignorant shoukd remain ignorant!
I can boldly say that Paul forbade using God's gift for self edification. It can't make it clearer than that without sounding rash.

in summary you subscribe to B. soul in the body theology... good.

please have you ever heard the spirit prays...
Not soul in the body, but a living body is a living soul.
Spirit prays? No, but he does help us know what to say and ask for in prayer. That's what he does.

purpose you say...here

1cor 14:
2  For he that speaketh in an unknown tongue speaketh not unto men, but unto God: for no man understandeth him; howbeit in the spirit he speaketh mysteries.

and by the way, as in church, when the word is read from the scripture, its a form of prophecy but you reading the word and declaring same over yourself is also prophecy; thus showing two fold usage. in like manner, tongues can be used for evangelism as in acts 2 but can be used for personal edification as staed in 1 cor 14:4.

yes in gathering i agree if there is no interpretation but he NEVER forbade it outrightly but in my privacy i can speak tongues to edification which am a witness.
Right there after 1 Cor. 14:4, you can read Paul throwing his weight behind Church edification.
Paul statement in 1 Cor. 14:4a is at best, a satire. I don't see a way in hell he is endorsing self-edification in that verse. Paul saw speaking in a gathering in a tongue unknown to the audience as self-edification(a boast) if not interpreted. He is not teaching the use of tongue in private if you study that chapter very well. Of what use is it, if I have the gift to speak 50 different languages and all I could use it for is speak to myself in my room?
Even Paul who could speak more tongues than them all would rather speak five words that can be understood, so others might benefit, than 10000 words in a language unknown to that audience.
The whole purpose of that chapter 14 is: ensure you use a language that can be understood by your audience, and if not, get an interpreter to edify the body of Christ and not to show off your ability to speak other tongues (self edification).

you are only seeing one side of the picture..pray tell me which soul was converted in this scenarious
acts 10 when cornelius spoke with tongues or the ephesians in acts 19 after paul laid his hands on them? so you see its not just for evangelism.
The gift of speaking with new languages is a tool for evangelism. At least, that's what 1 Cor. 14:22a is telling us. Cornelius (who was an officer over 100 soldiers) and the 12 men who were baptised of John, would no doubt, spread the gospel through the manifestation of that gift.

to make our discussion more enlightened, this i wish to inow of you..which of this do you subscribe to

a. man consist of spirit, soul and body

or

b. man consist of body and soul.
I subscribe to none of the above.
Genesis 2:7 "And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man BECAME A LIVING SOUL."
According to the Bible, man became a living soul (not given a soul) through the breath of God in him.
And what happens when that breath is no longer there? Genesis 3:19b "for out of it (ground/dust: see Gen 2:7) wast thou taken: for dust thou art, and unto dust shalt thou return"
That's the fate of man. The dead returns to dust, until the resurrection at Jesus second coming.
So my take is that man is nothing but dust, a living soul as long as he breaths.
