I don't really understand this Etf, I have read about it, but it seems not to sink. I'm still a newbie in stock, with a strong knowledge in crypto. Please baba here can explain it to me in layman.
Ps: I know Etf is like a basket with many stock or bond.

An ETF basically helps to diversify risks and take advantage of growth prospects in a particular sector of the stock market. So you have various companies like Vanguard, Ark, Fidelity, Invesco, ishares, etc that will buy a percentage of stocks in let's say tech sector or consumer goods or energy companies or marijuana companies or green energy or pharmaceutical companies. Etc. Do you get the picture now? These people are called fund managers. They have analysts that have taken their time to look into these companies in detail and with more expertise. They do this over decades and compare with other sectors, they go through every atom of the companies' business.

So you only have to search for top performing ETFs. Or if you have recently heard that Biden is about to invest in green energy companies, you will search for ETFs invested in green energy. If you hear that marijuana is legalised federally and passed by Congress, you will search for MJ ETFs. This is better than buying just one marijuana single stock like Aurora Cannabis. AC maybe involved in some kind of fraudulent scheme or something can suddenly disrupt it's supply chain. Or key management may be problematic. The next day, the whole of your portfolio is down. But if it was an ETF, you may not even notice this.

With an ETF, you don't need to subscribe to so much financial market news or keep logging in and out of your social media apps or waiting for earnings call, or stop loss orders. If your portfolio is down, the whole market is likely down, so it will give you some form of comfort.

European markets tend to underperform their North American colleagues due to their lack of FAAN(M)G heavy stocks. I searched for industrial revolution and green energy ETFs that were TSLA heavy but couldn't find much. I have seen told that I can create a pie by myself on trading 212 but I don't have the time and expertise to consistently and effectively rebalance my holdings.
Is passfolio a better alternative then?

I don't use trove but on paper they seem to have the cheapest trade commission of 1% compared to bamboo which is at 1.5% (for portfolio below 10k dollars) someone somewhere complained about their older charges but I can not varify. I use passfolio because of their 0 trade commission and because compared to the Nigerian based services like bamboo and trove.. They are actually a registered broker in the US and are member of FINRA SIPC. They also use drivewealth which means they have same stocks as to have and bamboo. Do your own investigation and figure out what works for you.

What do I need to register with them? Passport? Bank statement? BVN?

Why? What can cause this?

I want to know if the IELTS can be done in one day.
I have seen people talking about going for their speaking assessment on a day and the rest on another day.
How many days apart are the tests?

Interesting fact I just ran into. When you are married, your spouse automatically becomes your dependent even if they will not accompany you. And you must supply POF for them.

True but it’s optional(You can pay for that or the standard which is $7/$10). What is need is the soft copy which will be available on your account when your evaluation is completed and it will be emailed to you also. some people have equally gotten their hard copies via the standard courier But it took longer time maybe like 30 days upwards

Please can you have a look at your email?

For Uk universities the process is faster with Wes and doesn’t require the yeye verification process again. Since you’re evaluating one degree which is your highest degree I think it’s just the $230 CAD. IELTS (this one u can’t say How much exactly but per exam is 75k) . To get in the pool you need these two first of all and then other expenses will follow. Thankfully the expenses are in bits so it may not really impact you that much as opposed if we all had to pay the whole thing at once

Thank you. Someone told me that I will need an additional 80 dollars for international courier? Kindly confirm please.

Thank you for your response Debbie. My MSc is from a university in the UK. How much should I set aside for everything in total? I have not actually started the process.

I don't know if someone here has mentioned it but have you taken him to the hospital to have his blood sugar checked? Also at this stage you need to start using subtle shame tactics like drying the mattress outside everytime he bedwets. Or refusing to sleep in the bed for like a week.

If only people will leave sex, cheating and money to focus on important things during courting, we won't have people in miserable marriages or high rate of divorce.

Anger management, personalities, addictions, abuse, level of mutual understanding, friendship, goals, genotype, differences, family background and histories are very very underrated in relationships these day.

Sex, money, birthday, hanging out, cruise, sexchat, cooking and gifts are the only things existing in 99.742% of relationships in Nigeria.

You're not typing like someone in a committed relationship. This is because some of the things you mentioned as unimportant are actually important. Money for example is a leading cause of fights and divorce. Same with intimacy incompatibility. For you to know that someone wets the bed, you might need to spend a couple of nights with them and this may lead to actually having !nterc0urse. We cannot continue to blame people based on "what were you doing during courtship". Some people are blindsided and some habits will actually develop AFTER the marriage.

Health / Re: Help My Girlfriend Is Epileptic. by OvaSabi1(f): 2:52pm On Sep 28, 2020
Chef2000:
Please doctors in the house is there a cure for nocturnal epilepsy?

I have a pretty girl, we started dating 8 months ago, this girl is everything I need in a woman, she is neat, cooks well and humble, so perfect to my taste but she is epileptic.

I have been inviting her to my house for over 5months for her to sleep over in my apartment but she keeps refusing, telling me she has a problem then I later promised her whatever the problem is that I wouldn't abadon her.

She finally came on friday, we ate together and later in the night at 22:38 she started having epilepsy and after about 45mins she woke up and started crying, she told me she has been suffering from epilepsy since Feb 2019 but she hasn't been to the hospital due to financial issues.

So please can we find drug for nocturnal epilepsy, it happens to her only at night like 30 to 35mins in her sleep.

If it is as recent as 2019 then it may not be epilepsy. She's having seizures due to an underlying illness that could be fatal. If she dies nairaland people will only tell you sorry.

If it is epilepsy please consider marijuana, fresh one that you grew yourself o abeg. Read and do your own research so that you will understand where I am coming from.

I just recently got interested in Tesla (don't hold the stock yet).

So it missed being added to the S & P 500. That says a lot ( it dipped 6% after hours). These are 3 reasons I think why

Stock price volatility.
Revenue uncertainty.
Robinhood gamblers.

It's likely to dip further next week.

On Novavax, I bought @120. I added to my position yesterday to average down. I have been monitoring their clinical trials. The reports so far shows theirs to be the most promising when compared to the likes of Moderna, Gilead etc.

I still hold the likes of Gilead and Boeing I bought in February and March respectively. Even if I choose to sell both anytime, the current exchange rate will add to my profit which brings me to my last point.

When trading in the US stock market, ALWAYS try to monitor your EXCHANGE RATE before you buy. Always. So that even if you're at a loss, when you eventually sell, you have your exchange rate to fall back on as cushion.

What exchange rate did you buy? What will you gain now if you sell? Which app do you use?

DeLaRue:

Actually, you can't be sure of that.

It's possible that many of these companies whose share prices have been flying in recent months may never reach those prices again, ever. Equally, the share may recover and reach new highs in the future. My point is, we simple don't know.

If you were around during the 'dot com' era in the early 90s I think, share prices rose like hell. Any company connected with the internet saw their shares prices skyrocket for months on end. No one saw a crash coming.

Then...prices crashed. Many in Europe, America & Asia who just days earlier were counting their share price gains in thousands of pounds & euros saw it all evaporate in the twinkle of an eye. Many became bankrupt. Some committed suicide.

Many of the companies 'experts' said would rule the world in the early 90s (just like Apple, Tesla are today) have collapsed and disappeared. Same thing will happen to many of today's 'hot' companies.

Technology is very dynamic, new companies and ideas are being incubated in labs, research centres, in people's rooms & garages as we speak. There's a good chance neither Apple, Tesla or Facebook will be the leading companies in 10 years. Don't say it can't happen. We have seen this sort of thing before.

Even here in Nigeria, I believe First Bank shares sold for about N50 a few years ago, but today it's often closer to N5.

Getting involved in shares like Fastly, Tesla etc without experience (and even with experience) can cause severe financial harm.

Many of the people rushing enthusiastically to trade foreign shares probably don't have the necessary experience to anticipate & manage the risk.

All they see is your enthusiastic share recommendations and perception of success. Some are going to borrow money, sell property etc to join in the rush for gains without understanding the risks. And you and I know, even for the experienced, managing share trading risks can be difficult. The truth is a lot of people will make some money, but many more are likely to lose money.

I can see you're trying to do good, but if I were you, I would want to avoid the moral burden of unknowingly leading many inexperienced people into this (very) risky business. I would start by not recommending specific stocks. In the choppy waters stocks are entering into now, too many will lose money, serious money.

I had same views as you but I was told to stop discouraging people. People posting pictures of their gains only made me uncomfortable for inexperienced folks. This thread is called stock pick alerts and is serving its purpose. People will continue to recommend single risky stocks and people will FOMO and YOLO in without doing due diligence.
To conclude, yes, you should not make any decisions with certainty in an uncertain future.
Before you enter into the stock market, pay all your debts, have an emergency fund, develop yourself and find other streams of income and you may be able to average your total costs.

I read Sociology. I don't regret it.. I am Currently an Health Entrepreneur but applying all my sociological skills while on the job.

Done NGO jobs, civil service, customer services in private sector, and many others before I decided to pick a societal problem and focus on it which is what sociology is all about. Am proud of the few people whose life I have been able to lighten up with the problem I solve. Am still a work in progress. Never stopping.

Change your mindset about certificates and jobs. Sociology exposes you to societal problems and develops your critical thinking abilities to solve those problems. It's broad and helps you fit anywhere.

The first thing people ask me when they meet me is if I am a medical doctor. Lol. I only read Sociology but as a problem solver and with my research abilities, I know much more than your doctor.

I bet that even if you had not studied sociology, you'd still be doing the current job you're doing. That is because it is in you. You have had this gift. It's not a university lecturer and his obsolete hand out who gave you the tools you currently have. However, OP may not have that gift. There are a lot of free resources online that will empower you in sociology. This is why it is always better to go into a professional field first. You can always circle back to your passion. Even Accounting, Engineering, Architecture, Nursing all deal with solving societal problems. There are medical doctors who are acting, they didn't study theatre arts.
