NAF COMBAT SPORTS COMPETITION KICKS-OFF IN JOS

The second edition of Nigerian Air Force (NAF) Inter Command Combat Sports Competition dubbed ‘Jos 2017’ has commenced in Jos, the Plateau State capital. The objective of the competition is to promote participation in sporting activities towards improving personnel physical fitness and also foster esprit-de-corps among NAF personnel. The sporting event is also an avenue to select athletes to represent the NAF in future championships. Six teams comprising teams Headquarters NAF, Tactical Air Command, Special Operations Command, Mobility Command, Training Command and Logistics Command are expected to participate in the week-long sporting activities due to end on Thursday, 30 March 2017.

Declaring the combat competition open, the Special Guest of Honour, the Executive Governor of Plateau State, His Excellency, Right Honourable Simon Bako Lalong congratulated the NAF for introducing combat sports which according to him would not only keep NAF personnel fit but mentally alert in carrying out their constitutional responsibilities. The Governor said he was appreciative of the NAF role in restoration of peace on the Plateau. “We will continue to partner with the NAF to ensure peace not only on the Plateau, but in Nigeria as a whole’.

Earlier in his keynote address, the Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar stated that maintaining a high level of combat and physical fitness would help personnel discharge their constitutional duties optimally whenever the need arises. “It must be stated that even with acquired modern weapon and the continued effort to reactivate our assets we are not unaware of the fact that the Service needs personnel that are physically and mentally prepared to make the difference in any conflict”. The events to be competed for are: boxing, combat relay, and combat swimming. Others are judo, obstacle crossing, shooting, taekwondo and thug of war. The first edition of the competition was held in Kaduna in 2016.
Just Joking oh.. so something like this happened and these are all the pictures they could snap? huh
they didnt go down south to call in Professional photographers who have earned "years of Combat experience" what a damn shame. i know most of you do not really appreciate the hardwork that go into snapping some of the great SANDF photos you see. you ve gotta be very careful when you are assigned to snap SANDF soldiers on live fire exercises so some dumb SANDF soldier would not mistakenly shoot your stupid photographer balls off" grin grin grin

now what i want you guys to do is to pretend this post does not exist. you didnt see it and i didnt write it. grin grin grin

And which jets is NAF able to roll out in the protection of Nigerian lives? Bombing Boko Haram for however many years hasn't changed the fact that Nigeria is utterly defenceless against any conventional air threat.

But that's also non of my business.
there are very big differences between a country engaging life targets with its aircrafts and the one shooting dummy targets for photography sessions, there are big differences between a pilot that have earned series of real kill strips and the one whose greatest achievement was to have been able to turn the craft upside down for a photography session, there are big differences between a pilot whose main worry is on strategizing maneuvers to carry out successful ground support sorties and the one whose main problem is on how to balance a rotor craft on a mountain ledge for photography shots.

We are fighting a war for which we are very well and suitably equipped and we have recorded some of the most unprecedented text book victories that the "unconventional" war against international terrorism would ever see.

Do not pray to learn the lessons that we have learnt, but when you pray, pray that you would one day gain the chance to learn from the experience of the men that have seen the true flames of war.

"Nice to see that the SAAF brought out jets for him, this should give the SAAF a much needed flying time."

Kindly post 2017 SAAF flying hours per squadron....so we can all see for ourselves how "much needed" it is.

NAF ESTABLISHES COMBAT SEARCH AND RESCUE UNIT IN PLATEAU STATE

As part of the renewed commitment to evolve robust security architecture capable of rapid employment in all spectra of warfare, the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) today hit the ground running for the establishment of a new specialised unit in Kerang, Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State. The new unit, 205 Combat Search and Rescue Group (CSARG), comes under the Special Operations Command. It is intended to shorten NAF’s response time and improve search and rescue efforts of troops in crisis areas within the country.
“The new unit is one of the nine specialised units under SOC set up to address the current security challenges facing our nation”, said the Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Sadique Baba Abubakar. He disclosed that 205 CSARG will incorporate hospital and schools for the benefit of NAF personnel, their dependents and civilian population within the area. Air Mshl Abubakar reiterated the commitment of the NAF to protect lives and property in the State in partnership with other security agencies.
Speaking as the Special Guest of Honour at the ground breaking ceremony, the Executive Governor of Plateau State, Rt Hon Simon Bako Lalong commended the NAF for its role in combating insurgency and terrorism in the country; adding that the occasion is one of the many remarkable strides by the Nigerian Air Force in repositioning itself into a professional and disciplined force. Gov Lalong described the event as “a landmark achievement by the NAF that will forever remain indelible in the hearts of Nigerians and most especially the good people of Plateau State”.
I commend the CAS most of the NAF budget under this CAS is however going to Humanitarian and hospitality. Abeg oh, we want to see something that can fly soon oh.

AgricultureHow Do We Get Our Youths Back Into The Farms In Ed0 State. by overhypedsteve(op): 8:45pm On Mar 07, 2017
The calls for a renewed interest in agriculture is not a new thing to Nigerians, the federal government, state government and public figures have made this call and have sometimes described it as the only way out of the single oil economy that we find our nation in today.
The position of the new government of Edo State is no different from that of the government at the federal level as both seem to be calling for a renewed interest in agriculture amongst the people. The people of Edo State have practised farming for centuries before now and in most cases, Edo people have relied on old and outdated farming techniques to produce food for themselves and to make very little quantity available for sale. This is the reason why the practise of farming in Edo State is on a serious decline. Accept it or not, as you read this, fewer lands are being cultivated, fewer animals are being reared and fewer people are undertaking farming as a fulltime job every day in Edo State.

Most of the old farmers who were, as it seems. The “Masters” of the old farming practise are now well retired and out of service. These veterans of agriculture in Edo State now rely on aids provided by their children who may be struggling with one white collar job or the other in the city or outside the country. The questions now are; why are our youths running away from the agricultural legacy laid down by their parents? “the answers are several, but each answers all narrow down to the fact that, farming is no longer an attractive, lucrative or competitive alternative to the white collar jobs which are scarcely available in our cities today. Farming have fallen from the once exalted position which it enjoyed to a position of neglect and pariah, and this is no fault of the generations of today, the fact that pasts generations kept relying on old, outdated and unsustainable farming practise are enough reasons for the present generation who are now well familiar with the “mechanics and automotive” ease of getting things done, to isolate themselves from the conservative and backward culture of manual farm labour and the various inefficient local farming methods practised by our predecessors .

How then can we bring about a renewed interest in agriculture amongst our younger generations to ensure that our farms do not go into extinction in Edo State?

These are my recommendations for the Edo State Government:

1. Begin to facilitate the adoption of modern farming techniques by providing these equipments and machineries and training the farmers on how to operate them. This could be achieved through a Public Private Partnership between the State Government and interested investors in the banking sector. Agricultural equipment renting centres can then be made available in major farming communities in Edo State. And the Government may also need to partner with Agricultural Equipments and Farm Machines providers, to establish maintenance facilities and to train and transfer this knowledge to our youths.
2. Engagement in wide reaching sensitization campaigns, which would be aimed at changing the mindsets of our youths about farming. This could be achieved through the use of the main stream medias, the social media, and the organization of “catch them young” campaigns in our secondary schools and higher institutions. The campaigns should be able to bring to the awareness of our youths the facts that, agriculture is a lucrative and prestigious undertaking when done using the available modern farming techniques and the various state of the art innovations in agriculture.
3. Enact agriculture friendly policies which would encourage even the laziest person to want to go into farming. Examples of such policies are: creation of an agricultural scholarship scheme for youths who are already engaged in farming but are interested in improving their knowledge by learning new farming practices abroad, such policies could also include the provision of financial grants or interventions for farmers who are in urgent need of such assistance to improve on their already established farms. In terms of policies there are so many things the government can do to attract our youths to go back into agriculture.
4. Creation of a low interest loan scheme for farmers with unique and bankable prospects. The reason why most farmers in Edo State do not engage in large scale farming is because in most cases they cannot afford a bigger farm, so providing such persons with a low interest loan to expand their already established farms or to undertake a new farm project. This would go a long way to encourage others . the loan could also be in the form of the provision of technical assistance and the service of farm machines during the planting season to be paid for after harvest.
5. Attract customers and investors for our farm products, Edo State Government can achieve this through the facilitating bilateral trade agreements on the export of farm produce with other countries. That way any farmer in Edo State can become a exporter of farm produce through these agreements, Government could also organize media campaign aimed at attracting both local and foreign investors to the availability of high quality raw materials from farms in Edo State.
6. Create processing mills, silos and factories. To help reduce the stress that farmers often go through in processing their products locally, Government can sensitize farmers on modern processing techniques and provide state of the art processing and storage facilities that would ensure that no farmer from our farming communities would have any reason to complain of his/her products getting spoilt or expired due to the ineffective local processing and storage techniques.

Our youths are naturally innovative and creative and not having them in the agricultural scene for all this times have been a big loss for agricultural development in Edo state. If our youths can be brought onboard the agricultural train in Edo State then we would see a lot of improvements and ground breaking achievements being achieved within a short period of time.

I am sorry if I made you feel less of yourself bro. I just hate it when two people are not allowed to sort themselves out in an intellectual debate, that's the way we learn. In the long run we may have known what doctrinal changes in the USAF led to the decommisoning of jets in the same class as the SU34, we may have enjoyed the opinion of two people on one particular topic and then make our own analysis and be better served.

My apologies for the past, I enjoyed my debate with you and I must tell you that from that experience I don't think you should call yourself a novice. I feel you friend, I understand how you must have felt and I apologise. Nobody is superior, nobody knows too much that is why we must give ourselves the chance to learn from each other.

Henry240:
That's why I said 100 vehicles a year. Each production cycle would have improvements from the previous version. Exactly the same thing we've seen with the PF2.

The PF2 we saw in 2013 and the PF2 today are more or less different vehicles. The version sold to Lagos State and Rivers state are not the same. Infact contrary to my earlier post, the version of 2017 is different from the version sold to Rivers and Abuja police units.

So each year we get improvements on the Ara mrap. I think 1000 units is a reasonable figure. To keep the product viable and to provide confidence in potential buyers.
was it the DHQ that specified the SPEC for the ARA or was it just built to suit a vague role. If it wasn't the ARMY or DHQ then we should buy very little units of it initially and through experience with these test units draw out specs and upgrades necessary for a better tougher High Mobility multipurpose armoured vehicle That would be the standard for our armed forces like the High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicle (HMMWV) of the USA. it takes time to come up with a standard platform. You will need to run trials upon trials and I suggest we still suffer the ARA to go through that rigorous test before we begin to see it as a standard platform that would be seen as the flag bearing armoured vehicle of our armed forces
Foreign AffairsRe: African Militaries/ Security Services Strictly Photos Only And Videos Thread by overhypedsteve(m): 9:28pm On Mar 04, 2017
Henry240:
Necessity is the mother of all invention. With the ARA MRAP coming on stream we now have what would eventually be a very good, competitive home grown APC that meets the pecularity of our environment.

A firm order of 1000 vehicles of all different variants of the ARA is key to sustainability. 1000 vehicles over 10 years seems only proper.

300 vehicles of the PF2 LAV for QRF units, 600 vehicles of the Innoson G12 utility truck.

After this, we get back to the drawing board and locally build a tracked IFV to replace our legacy Steyr and MTLB.
ordering 1000 unit of the first production variant of ARA is not too wise cus this first version would reveal lapses and upgrades that are needed in future variant which would then be more effective. 500 is a go.
