headofschool: Goodday Seniors, I have been on my third interview for a teaching role in design and technology. Although I got almost 15-20 interview invite but I declined to those with sponsorship.
The locations of the schools I have done my interviews were East Finchley, Ilford and Mansfield Woodhouse.
The schools commended my subject knowledge and assessment, behaviour management but gave what I'd like to call flimsy excuses for reasons not to go ahead with hiring. One even said I did not address myself as 'Mr' to the student.
Where do you think I am getting things wrong?? I am refusing to attribute it to anything related to 'racism'.
Same thing with wifey, the hiring team for her admin role in NHS said loud and clear "sincerely, you ticked all the boxes and there is no area we can say you needed to improve but we are sorry, we are just unable to hire you" this was their response on phone call (phone on speaker, so i heard too), after she had gone for the interview.
What tips or advise can you give us, it's getting frustrating Hey, don’t give up. Something very similar happened to me. The interviewers and HR said I ticked all boxes, they want me, no negative feedback, bla bla. However, they took someone else who also ticked all boxes and maybe had something a little extra than what I had or displayed. You’re on the right track and you both will land the desired jobs soon. I know you may have been doing it already, but pay more attention to the soft skills listed in the advert or their website. E.g. if they mention anything about “humour”, try and throw in one safe joke if possible while answering a question. |

Jamesclooney: Hi Elders,
Quick one on no claims discount and car insurance. I have been driving for years in Nigeria (13yrs). I have a full UK drivers licence (Aug 2023). I’m searching the market for most affordable insurance policy. For NCD, I put 13yrs (Naija) and I know someone who’s asking for 65k to prepare the authentication and record document from FRSC. It looks like Canada immigrants are the ones that need the document. Is it worth purchasing the document to reduce my UK insurance? Would they accept it in place of a NCD proof? Will it make a huge difference to justify the 60k naira (£37) spend? Thanks in advance If this is forgery then don’t indulge in it. |

EPEAKS: Good Afternoon All,
I need your advice. Ok so I got a job to resume today on a salary of over 50k. I even signed a contract. Everything went well until I was asked to provide NIN. I came in to UK just last month and I applied for NIN on the 17th of this month. I shared my right to work code and BRP, however, since then I have heard nothing.
When I called HR, they referred me to my recruiter. I tried calling the recruiter but until now he has not called back. I used another number to call to see if perhaps my number was blocked as call kept being busy. Recruiter called back on that line but I did not pick. He is still yet to call my own number he has.
I feel so sad at the moment as it was a reputable Company.
Any word of encouragement or advice will do. Please note that I am a Dependent (Student Visa). Wishing you the best |

babajeje123: I noticed the change myself, has nothing to do with any third party. We'll try Aveeno and see the effect. Ticha didn’t mean a third party saying that your kids are dark. I believe she meant that you shouldn’t say “that the girls are getting dark” to your kids’ hearing. That’s what I got from Ticha’s post. Happy to be corrected |

Jeff0983: Honestly marriage certificate should be okay but seems UK wants to recolonize us again, even after marriage certificate, pictures (101 pictures), WhatsApp chats and some invoice with bank statements my agent is asking for tenancy agreement on both of our names before he can apply. The bolded is a wrong thing to say. Pls change your mindset and reasoning as soon as possible. Marriage certificate is enough proof of marriage and you can complete your application by yourself. The Agent can even mess up your application for you. |

Ugochinyere1: I’d suggest you book. My younger brother wanted booking 2weeks ago and only saw dates for 1st week of November, we tried checking at intervals to see if closer dates will drop and also tried contacting the embassy for closer dates which proved abortive. After 2days the dates available was now November ending and upwards, he had to just book like that and wait it out. Thank you |

Plaitex: Good evening House. I need your advice please. My partner is a Structural Civil Engineer with 9 years experience in Nigeria. He has tried to apply for series of jobs on all the job websites. Has had a couple of interviews which moved to the second stage, but was not shortlisted.
He is on a student dependent visa and has about 9months validity on his visa. He has about 3 months experience as a contract engineer here in the UK and includes his design portfolio along side his applications.
LinkedIn recruiters contact him to discover his availability but it doesn't yield any positive outcome. Has been actively searching for 3 months now.
Please is there something he is doing wrong? Any tips would be really helpful You mentioned that he's had some interviews but didn't get the jobs......could it be he needs to sharpen his interview skills? Some of us believe we're great at interviews but that may not be the case. I had a personal experience with someone who thought he was doing well in the mock interview and refused my offer for a second mock interview (both free o). If he can't get someone to do a mock interview with, let him record himself and watch the video. You can find mock questions for him online. |

Pls what is council tax in the UK?
How is it paid, monthly or yearly??
Thanks in advance For your response It's a tax paid monthly to the local council (like local government in Nigeria). Next time, Google it first then you can ask specific questions about the parts you read but couldn't understand. |

Schoolhike: Lol, I do understand your message here, but want to have another perspective on interpreting your message, give it to AI to interpret this is what I got.
“This message seems to be part of a light-hearted argument or banter about the types of vehicles and engines preferred in the UK versus Nigeria. Let's break it down:
"On this thread many month's ago........ One Nigerian based troll, insulted UK and their small engine's + small vehicle's.........": This statement suggests that a user, referred to as a 'troll' (often a term used for someone who stirs up arguments or posts inflammatory comments online), who is based in Nigeria, had previously posted on the same thread making fun of the UK for their small engines and small vehicles. "I hear from the grapevine......... All those V6's & V8's in Nigeria, are spending time suspended in the air/or having white kegs on their roofs ........ 😜🤣😂": The phrase "I hear from the grapevine" is a colloquial way to say they've heard rumors or unconfirmed reports. It seems they're making a joke or teasing about large-engine vehicles (V6 and V8 engines, which are typically found in larger, more powerful cars or trucks) in Nigeria. The part about "spending time suspended in the air" could be a reference to these vehicles being lifted for maintenance or repairs, suggesting they break down often. The "white kegs on their roofs" could be a humorous or sarcastic reference to people using their cars to transport goods, suggesting that these larger vehicles are being used for utilitarian purposes, rather than for their power or performance.” The AI try....na only the "for sale" part e miss, but it's perspective on the keg is still valid to some extent |
