It's sad. In this administration there's been a lot of talking before thinking. Why replace a working system (PostUTME) with a not well-thought-out one? |
Was his account hacked? |
Hope is oxygen to the soul. It's not all gloom and doom; every cloud has a silver lining. After this very difficult period, it seems better days are ahead. Modified Going through the comments below, it's sad some people don't know how to appreciate good things. Then it's sadder that people abuse a whole tribe because of the shortcomings of a few. These tribal e-wars are going to continue for as long as we judge other tribes by their worst examples and judge ourselves by our best intentions |

nnamdibig:This is what I perceive: They (the family) started out well. When the campaign began, the intention was to save Mayowa. Then the money came in too fast, over and above what they needed or imagined. Then "funny" thoughts crept in. They had other ideas on how the money could be spent. Someone blew the whistle forcing them to retrace their steps. Because they've retraced their steps the public might never know their true intentions. |

Surely, the family was up to something...and people were abusing Linda |
The management of the Lagos University Teaching Hospital has denied referring Mayowa Ahmed, a cancer patient at the hospital, for treatment abroad. The hospital also denied being involved in any fund raising activity on the patient’s behalf. In its first official statement on the controversial case, the hospital said the patient’s family requested to fly her overseas barely 24 hours after her admission, thus stalling all the planned investigations meant to arrive at a definitive diagnosis. The LUTH said Ms. Ahmed, 31, who was an old patient at the hospital, was brought to their private wing on Monday with “a history and clinical features of an intra-abdominal mass.” “The family and the patient brought along some results of laboratory investigations ordered and done from outside LUTH. “Three different Specialists were invited to review Mayowa. The Gynaecologist, Oncologist and Haematologist all arrived at a tentative diagnosis of an abdominal malignancy. “They planned to conduct a series of fresh tests to confirm the definitive diagnosis, since the earlier tests were neither requested nor authorised by any doctor from LUTH.” An online fund-raising campaign supported by Nollywood actress, Toyin Aimakhu, with the hashtag #SaveMayowa, and aimed at raising money for Ms. Ahmed treatment abroad, had gained popularity on social media during the week. Her family said she had been diagnosed with ovarian cancer. In its statement, the LUTH said the hospital was able to transfuse Ms. Ahmed with “much-needed” blood only after lots of persuasion, and after the family was told it was risky for her to travel by air, given her low blood count. “Today (Thursday) is the third day after admission and a definitive diagnosis has not yet been made while the relations insist on their own to carry her abroad. “LUTH has only dealt with Miss Ahmed and her relations throughout her stay and not with any other third party. Contrary to any circulating information, the Lagos University Teaching Hospital did not refer Miss Ahmed overseas and this Institution is not involved with any fund-raising activity or activist on her behalf.” The #SaveMayowa hashtag had garnered over 11,000 mentions on Twitter by Thursday, with unconfirmed claims that the family had raised over N30 million. However, news began circulating on social media that the fundraising was a scam because the patient was “beyond help”, prompting the family to quickly issue a statement insisting they were planning to raise $100,000 for her treatment at Emory International Hospital, Atlanta, USA. On Thursday, the police broke up a heated exchange between some social media campaigners and Ms. Ahmed’s relatives inside LUTH’s premises, and whisked all parties to the Area D Command in Mushin. The police later issued a statement saying it had begun a “full scale investigation” into #SaveMayowa fundraising campaign, adding that it had frozen the Access Bank account opened in Ms. Ahmed’s name. “The Command wishes to inform all the good spirited people who had donated generously to this course that it will ensure it does not return as a hoax and every outcome of the investigation shall be made open,” said Dolapo Badmus, the Lagos police spokesperson. http://www.premiumtimesng.com/regional/ssouth-west/207752-luth-denies-savemayowa-fundraising-role-says-family-stalled-treatment.html |
Hmmm...July 29. Who knows what would happen today? |
Oche211:Was the Wizkid story a lie? |
So Linda Ikeji was right about a scam. What's not clear is who the scam artist(s) is: Toyin or Mayowa's Family? |
Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho is ready to drop his interest in Juventus’ Paul Pogba should a deal fail to be finalised before August 7's Community Shield game against Leicester City, with Paris Saint-Germain’s Blaise Matuidi the contingency plan. That’s according to Samuel Luckhurst of the Manchester Evening News, who stated Mourinho wants the move sewn up quickly and has already isolated an alternative should a world-record deal for Pogba not come off. While the cutoff point has been set by Mourinho, United are still confident of getting a deal done for Pogba prior to their meeting with Leicester, per Luckhurst. Although Pogba is eager to rejoin the club and United agreed personal terms with his agent Mino Raiola three weeks ago, it is understood they hit a stumbling block when Juventus refused to pay 50% of agent Raiola's commission and Ed Woodward was unwilling to budge Pogba, naturally, would be the more exciting capture. His ascension since departing Old Trafford four years ago has been rapid. In Serie A, he’s regularly bossed midfield tussles, bustling past opponents with panache before producing spectacular moments in the attacking third. However you could argue Matuidi game would be more suited to Mourinho's style. You could argue he’s more suited to Mourinho’s methods too. Pogba, for all his talent, does have a tendency to vacate his position, cling to possession and overcomplicate simple pieces of play—all traits that would likely irritate the pragmatic Portuguese. Matuidi is a much more functional footballer. The PSG man would offer United greater assurance at the base of the midfield, too. As a left-sided player, he brings balance, while his defensive attributes and unshakeable concentration would offer a sturdy shield to what has been an unconvincing Red Devils defence in recent times. News of a deadline being set for this deal will be encouraging for United supporters, as the transfer saga has dragged on for much of the summer. They’ll be encouraged to know there’s potentially a great player on the way to Old Trafford in Matuidi should Pogba’s move collapse. In a Preseason warm-up between MLS All Stars, Drogba once again scored against Arsenal. Prior to this contest, the 38 year old had scored 13 times in 15 contests against Arsenal when he was with Chelsea, which prompted this response from Arsene Wenger. Wenger singled out Drogba, per reporter Patrick Friolet: “At halftime I thought, Drogba haunts us again, even in the USA!” Fortunately for Arsenal they don't have to worry about Drogba in the Premier League. It took a late goal from Chuba Akpom, for Arsenal to beat the MLS All-Stars, 2-1, in yesterday's MLS All-Star Game in San Jose, California. The Gunners went ahead courtesy of a first-half goal off Joel Campbell's penalty kick, while Didier Drogba scored the lone goal for MLS. Arsenal ended a two-game MLS winning streak in the event, as the All-Stars had beaten Bayern Munich and Tottenham Hotspur in their previous two matches. With this result, Arsenal becomes the first London club to beat an MLS All-Stars team. |
You will answer this question when you read this. When I heard about #SaveMayowa and started reaching out to people online and offline, I saw that they had received approximately (as are all figures in this) N17million in the Access Bank account and $45k in the GoFundMe. Rough calculations (after taking out GoFundMe’s 6.5%) meant they needed roughly N5million to reach the N32million mark. Few hours later, it was announced that they had hit N31m in Access Bank and the GoFundMe had about $70k. We had crossed the mark, by far but I encouraged people to keep donating for contingencies. So, imagine my surprise when I saw tweets saying the mark had not been met. I asked the person what she meant and she claimed she was with Mayowa, and gave me her number to call. I called her and she explained that the $100,000 on GoFundMe was the hospital bill, so they still needed money for transportation, after-care, contingencies, etc. I was furious this wasn’t communicated, and we were under the impression ALL she needed was N32m for everything. And I expressed my displeasure. The family and those announcing should have been more honest with the amount they needed. The moment people start imploring others to help, the moment people actually donate, they wouldn’t want to feel they’d been deceived. Well, I stopped talking about the case because I felt someone wasn’t being very honest, but I kept tracking events. Today, on hearing that Toyin Aimakhu and others who were carrying this case on their head had gone to LUTH because the family was apparently trying to milk Mayowa’s situation and scam the nation weakened me. I tried reaching the person I spoke to yesterday, I couldn’t. I checked the timeline of @d_problemsolver who actively championed this cause as well, and she also said no one was giving her answers. I believed something was up. And I took to my timeline to express my disappointment. Now the family has released a statement saying #SaveMayowa is not a scam and she is going to Abu Dhabi (not the US as earlier communicated), I think I’m going to put my vex aside (for the sake of the girl) and give them the benefit of doubt. Did the family scam Nigerians? Well, maybe they weren’t open with how much was actually needed (so as not to discourage people from donating); maybe they weren’t promtply updating us with next steps (once people involve their money in a project, it is fair that they know how that money is spent); maybe the fact that they had different people saying different things made it seem shady, but I WANT TO BELIEVE that the words “where there is life, there is hope” is the reason they started this campaign, and they would indeed use the monies donated to help Mayowa get better. Amen. https://medium.com/@Chydee/is-savemayowa-a-scam-52d0c6b4b6a3#.p8bi18t4o |

Nice Observations but I beg to differ What made Mourinho special was winning the Europa and Champions League in 2003 and 2004 respectively with Porto. What was his MER in the UCL that year? How often do middleweight teams win the Champions League? Mourinho in Chelsea Before Mourinho came to Chelsea, Chelsea were already heavy spenders. Chelsea already had the unenviable record of being the first premier league team to feature a starting 11 without a British Player. It was Mourinho who turned Chelsea from an also-ran to Champions. Mourinho in Inter. Inter Milan have always been big spenders breaking world record fees with the purchases of Christian Vieri and Ronaldo Da Lima. Yet in 45 years, they hadn't won the champions league. Mourinho comes and breaks the Jinx. Not one or two but three trophies. What was his MER in the UCL that year? Mourinho in Real Madrid Real Madrid are traditionally big spenders. Between 2004 - 2009, Madrid bought Ronaldo (€94M), Kaka(€65M), Robben(€36M), Benzema(€35M), Alonso (€30M), Huntellar(€20M), Sneijder(€27M), Van Nisterooy(€15M), Pepe (€30M), Ramos (€28M), Higuain(€13M) and others. With all the money spent, Real Madrid in the aforementioned years failed to make it to the last four in the UCL. In fact, they couldn't even go beyond the last 16 between 2005 and 2010. Mourinho goes there and Real Madrid make the semis three years in a row. They also win the league (which featured possibly the best club side (Guardiola's Barca) in history). Also Real Madrid wins the Copa Del Rey for the first time in 18 years. Yes, he spends money but money alone does not guarantee success. Knowing who to buy and how you use what you buy does. |

The Manchester United target was set to be examined in Miami where he is on holiday. But Spanish outlet AS claims Raiola has decided to pulled the plug. Italian doctor Italo Linfante, who works at the Miami Cardiac and Vascular Institute, was reportedly due to run the rule over Pogba. The medical was reportedly set to happen at the Jackson Memorial Hospital. However Raiola has now called the whole thing off. It's said the super agent phoned the doctor to tell him not bother jetting home from a holiday in Europe to undertake the medical, as a deal for Pogba isn't close. According to the Daily Mail's Mike Keegan, Juventus are refusing to contribute at all to Raiola's fee(£18.4 million) for brokering the deal. They want United shoulder that responsibility alone. Considering United had already made an offer of £92million plus £10m in bonuses, this would bring it to an insane £110million (Pounds o not Euros...SMH). The disagreement over Raiola's fee is the final hurdle for united. Will they allow it prevent the deal from sailing through? http://www.dailystar.co.uk/sport/football/532992/Paul-Pogba-medical-Manchester-United-Juventus-transfer-news-deal-Miami-hospital P.S. If the perfomances of Euro 2016 is anything to go by, Man U is making a bid for the wrong French player. |

Niger Delta Avengers on Sunday night allegedly blew up the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, gas pipeline at Nsite Ibom Local Government Area, Akwa Ibom State. The claim has not been independently confirmed, but spokesperson of the militant group, self-styled Brig Gen Mudoch Agbinibo, in a statement, challenged NNPC to “check their pipeline if it is ‘system anomaly.’ ” The statement read: “At 11:30pm on Sunday, the NDA blow up Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), gas pipeline at Nsit-Ibom L.G.A, Akwa Ibom state. NNPC should check their pipeline if it’s “system Anomaly”. Asking the NNPC to check if it was system anomaly is an allusion to the exchange between the militant group and Exxon Mobil, which initially denied an attack on its export line in Akwa-Ibom state, saying that it was a system anomaly, only to declare force majeure days later. Adaure4ever:I admire you and I love the passion you express for your region even if some of your ideas are utopian. I have seen some of your previous threads and I agree the answer to our problems is not Biafra. Those agitating for Biafra should look at South Sudan. If we can not make the SE enviable while in Nigeria, there are no guarantees we would do any better if we had our own country. Cos We would still have same leaders - carry-overs from Nigeria. I would rather have the Biafra agitators channel their energies to compel our Governors/leaders to be accountable and lead us well. All that's required it's to have leaders (like you) who are sincere, passionate and have the interest of the people at heart. Every other thing would fall in place. As it's often said where there's a will, there's a way. God bless |

A woman, Tawa Aregebsola, has been arrested in Lagos State for renting her one month-old baby to female beggars. Aregbesola’s arrest was sequel to the arrest of two female beggars, Hadiza Nosiru and Salamotu Salitu at Oyingbo by the monitoring team of Lagos State Ministry of Youth and Social Development after three babies were found in their possession. Reports said preliminary investigation conducted by the agency revealed that the duo are not the biological mothers of the babies, and had rented them for street begging. One of the babies’ mothers, Aregbesola, has been arrested alongside Hadiza and Salamotu, and are all detained at the Rehabilitation and Training Centre at Majidun where they are facing interrogation. Aregbesola was said to have entered a contract agreement with one of the suspects to rent her one month old baby to her between 5.00pm and 7.00pm, in exchange for N1,000(One Thousand Naira) daily. http://www.nigeriadailynews.news/news/322335-survival-in-lagos-woman-rents-her-1-month-old-baby-to-beggars-for-n1k-per-day.html |
