Business / Re: Business Ideas For Returning Nigerian Diaspora. by Pacemaker: 7:50pm On Sep 03, 2012 |
I am a diaspora and wish to finally relocate to Nigeria in the near future. I surely applaud your honesty, please create a Facebook page and a website for events and planning seminar which can be held twice a year for those abroad and home looking for areas to invest. Let there be entrance fee of $100 just to filter the serious minded people from the not serious minded people. I would not mind flying down to Nigeria just to attend your event. Youth empowerment should be taken seriously because these same youths are the future leaders. Thanks for this thread and I hope to see more of such on front page |

feelamong: Excellent Thread!Trust is business and which maybe lacking in our society. Our thread is changing life in its own way and I pray to see more motivational threads of such on nairaland rather that fraud and fast lane business. Nigerians are not wise but stupid, I am guilty of same because I am one. Why steal a common wealth and invest it in a foreign country when you can invest same money in your country? We are Blessed with abundant human resource, some countries don't have what we have yet they are far better that us. Our generation can brake the curse and turn things around if we choose to practice "love your neighbor as yourself". People may think I am dumb for leaking information on here, no way I did this for my own good also. A society filled with idle mind nurture evil. If a kidnapper to be, come here and see our discussion thread, he may have a change of heart by looking at himself on a mirror and then say ;I can make it all by myself without making other peoples family life miserable. We should start thinking of the future and not today. American youths breathe as we do,have same brain as us and bleed as us, what stops us from mimicking their ways of thinking? US is getting ready for a speedy economical recovery, they are planning on deploying nano technology which will eventually dominate the world. What is Nigeria's youth planning on accomplishing in the next ten years? Mauritius and Namibia should be used as a case study if you say I should not compare Naija youths and US youths.....Stay Blessed all |

kayjegs: May God bless everyone here... This is what is needed at this time. I will start contributing to this thread in my own little way. I think, youths just need to take over now. Involve in businesses that emanates from our ideas and the country will be better for it.Don't hold back, America is every one's dream because of its openness to all. Touch a life by showing them how to catch fish rather that giving them fish |

I will support what ever you would want to do provided its legit. I bet you our discussion thread has touched so many life, I wish some one sensible can purchase nairaland and make it more for youth empowerment . 3 Likes |

pleep: What i'm trying to say is there are bubbles in the Nigerian import market. An example of this would be cars, people were making alot of money on that, but awareness of this opportunity spread and the profits crashed.\ Diapers market has been saturated, I heard there are Chinese made in Nigeria? Few years ago I contacted procter and gamble or so in regards diapers and they said they have already gotten a sole distributor for Nigeria's territory. Why not think about products that are meant for female during menstruation? Tampax or so. What about lotion to clear odor after menstrual cycle? These are products that can take off |

2sexy: Yeah... I know what you mean. Actually, I don't have any programming knowledge but I have seen some programs that allow you make stunning games without coding. And that's what I want to use. It also seem like most of the games made today are created using such application. What do you think? This is the era of smart phone and tablets, people would rather purchase games on app store that going to a retail store to buy a disc containing video games. It is like you selling Okrika some where in Lagos rather that the popular yaba market, people won't pay much attention to your goods or see it as third grade Okrika, get with the program,do research on how games are sold on app stores. you can google it to find out how. |

DANILSA: @pacesetter, pls my blackberry is not downloading the conference application or is it just for table top? I tried doing same just to see if what you were experiencing is true and yes it does not allow mobile down load. Send an email to the provider or use a PC to down load the app. |

pleep: I'm in. So whats happening?Your thread is kinda evasive meaning it's here and there. I understand this is a blog and most of us blog on our phone with key sensitive phones or tiny key pads. What kind of American goods are you trying to import ? Is there a cheaper alternative, like made in china? Would Nigerians tell the difference from afar? What is the market demand in Nigeria? Where can you get samples? You may think you are smart to bring product that is not saturated, also remember that it takes money to create awareness for that new product, do you have extra cash for marketing and free samples? Consider those questions before venturing into American goods. |

2sexy: Bros, u just dey give all these internet idea to people that may not use it... Internet biz is my area of specialization but fund is my wahala. However, because of the way the internet works, I should be able to rais capital by myself then hit the ground running. I can see the effect US life in you and perceived to be open minded to web biz, which is good. I do understand your sentiment , I am tired of seeing young Nigerians like myself involved in fraud rather that using their God giving talents to create jobs for themselves and society. Normally, I charge for consultancy but since this is for us by us, I derive joy in giving out info for free. Indians and other Asians are running most start up here in silicon valley, what stops Nigerians that claim to be wise and educated doing thesame? I am open minded because I live in a civilized society where information sharing is what is required for nation building. 2 Likes |

2sexy: Wow... For the first time, the NL business is taking to its name--Business.Nigerians are catching up, just that the environment does not encourage ambitious youths. I would advise you create a game African would be able to relate to. An example is a Safari game reserve where Zulu warriors are hunting wild animals. Make the background more African,if you have the expertise make it available in apple app store and android system app. You will be surprise, people from all over the world will pay to buy your app. People want something different and if such video game have that African village appeal, you are in for lotta cash money. |

stpat1:I am on different time zone as you guys, would not make it to your live meeting. Have you heard of joint account? Please don't scare away your financial backbone, what you should start doing at the moment is build confidence, trust and a personal relationship. It's difficult to find some one that will finance your business without overseeing the profit . My candid advise is to open a joint account with him where by money deposited in the account can be seen via text messaging. Let me share my own idea, I am introducing Mobile payments to hotels and major food chain restaurants and also supplying hotels a phone card that can be used world wide with any phone, no roaming charges. People are already doing this but I am adding more juice to it by deploying a differ marketing strategy |

[quote author=Ihedinobi]I'm not big on group stuff. So, while I salute the effort, I don't think I'll be subscribing. Pacemaker has done us quite a few favors. That's great. Thank you, sir. Now, here is my own two kobo. Business is not some new fell-out-of-the-sky-oh-so-special idea. It's simply relationship. You get stuck in the returns you want, you lose opportunities staring you in the face. You've got to live with your brains on. That's how you'll get ideas. For the past two months or so, my health hasn't been too good because of the incredible rate at which I have been working and developing one idea that keeps birthing so many more. You don't think up ideas. You see them in the way people greet you and conversations you overhear and probably participate in in the bus that takes you to work. You hear it in the news. You speak it everytime you complain about something. The problem is that ideas are like the fetus in a woman's womb. They need intensive care and nurturing. This translates to thought and willingness to open them up at the right times to people you think are able to help you develop them.I'm not afraid of sharing my idea with people when it's new. You know why? Because what I make of it eventually can never be th same thing any other person can. That's why I encourage you guys to share your ideas with people whose intelligence, at least, you respect. The main piece of advice I want to offer is this: use your heads. Think about what you're doing. What you think is a problem can actually be a new opportunity. I think stpat1's issue with one of his prospective partners is a good example One of your prospective partners indicates greed demanding that he be given the right to keep the money got from the biz, if I understand correctly. I'm not sure if the person was asking to be made the treasurer, but if he was and his partnership is needed, rather than throw out his demand, you could ask for some time to work it out or think about itYou might see in a week how to make him treasurer, secure the money against loss through him, keep his partnership and do a successful biz. Business is thought. You must think. Face the problems and challenges and address them squarely. Money is not made because you created a product that has never been seen or heard of before. In fact, if you did that, who would buy such a strange thing? [b]Money is made because someone provided a well-thought-out solution to a recognized problem.[/b God-speed, guys.[/quote You took the exact words out of my mouth. Thanks a million. |

DANILSA: I actually have two business proposal one is setting up a fast food, av been in the system for some years now, but am patient till I get a sponsor cos it's capital intensive. Secondly am working with some studio owners to promote young upcoming artist, it's a project were still working on. Why not open a studio and rent it out hourly? Must you have artist? Fast food joint is great but I would advise you open it at the boarder line between Abuja and Nasarawa state, it maybe cheaper to run |

DANILSA: Am in Abuja but surely loves the brilliant ideas. No body here seems to be in Abuja. @pacesetter just sent u a mail did expect some more info from you. I just saw on a different post you asking the 5million OP to partner with you? I doubt if he truly has the said amount and do you think such post will attract people with positive mind? I would advise you take your time and read what a guy posted on here, ideas should not be a secret, it all depends on how you ran it. An example is; Jason Njoku that took Naija movies to a differ level, are you telling me that he was the first to start streaming movies online? He is an innovator, you can be one also. Take your existing product and create a niche from it. |

For those of you worrying about been left out because you live in a different city rather that Lagos, don't worry I think I have found a solution for you. The Host of your meeting should be able to own a stable internet service and ask all members to log on to www.doxwox.com for a live conference meeting. This application is free and it solves worries of been at a distance place. I have fed you guys with enough information, I may start charging consultancy fees. If also you have the capital, take your time, carry out a feasibility study before venturing into any business. Me mentioning those countries does not mean I am starting this year or next year but will definitely visit those aforementioned countries in due time. Greed , distrust kills business and that is why lots of successful Nigerians in western countries would rather do business in other African countries. |

I visit Naija often and live in Wuse 2 and Owerri. You don't have to be in Lagos to make money,Abuja is a greater atmosphere for business, you are in the position to know what is been lacked out there. Although, from my observation, servicing maybe a great idea. If you have the money, import washer machines that uses ATM card for transaction, open from 10 am to 10pm daily. I didn't receive your email sir, discussing biz when you have no capital is considered dreaming. Send me an email again, I got that of the OP and that was it. |

Nigeria is blessed with abandoned natural resources. What about going down to South west to buy Red Bricks and sell in eastern states to those that are into building materials? It is just a thought,I don't really know if the market is saturated already. |

You don't have to release much of your innovative idea on here, get people that are energized and educated first, schedule your meeting ground and then hit the breek . Some business are capital intense , if you can't raise the money all by yourself, look for a politician in your locality and ask him or her to invest in your business and make sure you have your business proposal handy before approaching him or her. Agriculture is much talked about on Nara land, I would advise you start renting out Agriculture machinery to farmers to cultivate their crops. Create a business card, visit residential home owners and property managers and tell them why painting their properties increases the value, provide cheaper service and hire people that will paint their properties. There is a spray paint machine made by Greco sold in stores, such machine can help in expediting your job . I am done given you guys a free start up kit, now share yours if you got any. It's not for my benefit but for those that are trying to make difference in their life in Naija 1 Like |

This below website is owned by two friends that got married same day. The whole idea came up when they were planning their wedding. Remember you are providing a subscription based service. Your clients can go online and edit their listing, they can also list their budget . A software is used to run the operation system which you can buy for less than $200, it also help in calculating how much the bride and groom are willing to spend. http://www.myweddingworkbook.com I give my business ideas out here in public because I am all about success and always love to see black people make positive changes rather that committing crime and living a false life. Imagine you becoming the next Jason Njoku in Nigeria 1 Like |

Another business idea is been an online wedding planning organizer. Nigerians get married every week, most people that have plans to get married face a great challenge which is creating a to do list, like names of those that will attend the wedding, where people will sit and also head count e.g You can create a website where future married couple can sign up prior to their wedding and list their to do list on your site. They can as well upload their wedding pictures on your site for friends and family to view only. It can be a year subscription or two years subscription . That site should contain contacts of wedding cake designers, event planner, photographer and other subject required for a successful wedding. 1 Like |

2ruink: @pacemaker You must be a nice guy. I appreciate your concern and I am taking note of all your selfless contributions. It is sad, however, that you may not be here during our first meeting but even there in the state, you are still one of us. We are proud of you. My e-mail address is ampemy@yahoo.com kindly post yours as this will help us in our subsequent correspondence. regards! My advise for you is to have everyone participating in your round table business meeting sign a form of trade secret or MOU before proceeding. Nigerians can't be trusted so you have to be ahead of them legally. People with genuine intention can reach out to me via email at emma_nd@yahoo.com . I look forward to moving back to Nigeria some day, I have gotten the exposure I need to set up myself all I need is a business in Nigeria with longevity and honest partners. I am here to encourage my country men and women to be independent of government handout or get rich quick scheme. Don't get involved in internet business that says you should invest your cash and make quick money like forex and other pyramid scheme, only use Internet for research. There are so much money to be made in Nigeria provided you are dealing with the right set of individuals. I ones told myself that if my country's environs is not conducive for business I will look at countries like Rwanda. Mauritius and Namibia . Please ask every member to sign a legal document that won't allow it's members leak or steal your ideas. I strongly believe Naijas judiciary works right now , any violator can be served a jail term..... Good luck 1 Like |

I think there is a guy doing thesame in Nigeria at the moment,www.duduprint.com but don't worry, there are more wider market reach. The software that helps in customizing and saving your customer's items can be expensive though, you may buy it in the US for $400 or in europe. visit websites like cafepress.com and zazzle to get a feel on what I am talking about. Nigerian law for drunk driving is not strong, I would have shared another idea for those that wish to grow in a business. Remember you can export things from Nigeria to other African countries also.Op, you can become a broker by organizing business talent search in your locality. An example is, any individual that can come up with an idea to preserve water in the near future. Such idea will be in a form of technology, I know of a company that does talent search and then sell it to larger corporation. Everyone get paid on this including the genius that invented the idea. 1 Like |
