Business / Re: [Satire] The Nigerian Business Partner by Pacemaker: 11:16am On Feb 11, 2013
nitusa: Nigerians need a national orientation because after Gowon rule, we lost everything due to the oppressive government everybody went all out to get what they can get for themselves. From my perspective, I believe 70 percent of business deals in Nigeria involve some form of illegality. I have done business around the world, I never lost money, I have done business with any kind of race you can imagine, fair play. Just go to Ghana, they play by the rule.

If I add up my loss in Nigeria, it will be over $1,000,000. I was reading a thread about investing in cashew nuts, just to complete the transaction and transport the nuts from Ilorin to Lagos will attract 10 different risk for a profit of 10 percent. I applaud you guys doing business in Nigeria. Please don't educate me about foreign people coming to Nigeria. Their transaction has been concluded and paid into their account in double portion. If it is not, trust me, they have been trained by Nigerians in illegality. Americans are the most eager to do business in Nigeria but institutionalized
corruption will not let that happen. Try getting things done in any Federal Ministry, i bet you will wind up paying bribe in one form or the other.

Why on earth will I want to go out there and import adulterated pills or food into Nigeria to harm my innocent country man just because I want to make money. I pity my Niger Deltans brothers and sisters. God gifted resource has been turned to a curse by some evil Niger Deltans, Nigerians and foreign invaders.

Look, if I am to write a book about Nigeria, by now, I would have been writing my sixth book. Therefore, I rest my case.
I happen to have old college friends that are from few African countries, and I wish to do some business research tour real soon in their countries. Sir, since you are widely traveled and acquired vast knowledge like most of us here, which African country would you recommend for business dealings?

Funny. There is truth in this article though it generalised Nigerians as being fraudulent. There are always bad eggs wherever you go, it can't be helped. I once partnered with a very good buddy to execute a deal which wouldn't have gone through without my input. We decided on the percentage and I Set to work. It was a "success" and then I got a call from him that I was going to have to make do with less than the agreed percentage. No sensible reason was giving. Less than 24hours and there was a glitch with the client. I was the first person the friend called to help smooth over the issue and calm the client. I still don't know how I was able to be calm and resolve the glitch. The experience made me wiser and less trusting.

If its business, its business. If you are serious you should keep sentiments aside in choosing a partner. Presently working on something with another buddy, it better work or there will be blood ( ˘˘̯)
I am not saying there are no good Nigerians with positive intention, its just that the ratio gap between good and evil is very wide. I will never form partnership with my fellow country men, they are very desperate and impatient. Trust can not be bought but earned.

Very truthful and interesting article. They all tend to use same pattern. I am scared of the ones that uses "God Bless" in every conversation the most. Before doing business with a Nigerian in Nigeria I would advise you see them in person first, if possible request to see their international passport and make a photocopy of it, also take a front view picture of them to protect your investment. If they happen to dupe you, all you have to do is publish their obituary on a popular newspaper just to humiliate them......lol
It may be funny but this works.

The people wen chop my money get sweet mouth pass so. Bring bring bring is all they say, Nigerians in diaspora are flocking to other African countries for one reason, awful experience dealing with their fellow country men. Money for hand back for ground is the way to go. I dont trust people but hive them benefit of doubt sometimes.

Remitted? It's 2 out of hundred people. My uncle was in same shoes infact it became bad debt written off. So its best one sees the poerson he is dealing with first than ship to unknown persons and they abscond.
Your uncle cut his loss and moved on, its a tough decision but better to let go. Back in the days we hear of business men been assassinated in our neighborhood and blame the killers without asking questions but these days we praise them for applying justice to breach of contract. How often do we hear of civilians duping military officers? You dont cause dey understand the consequence. The country is filled with vultures, peoole derive joy in eating people's money. My first experience ever was from so called born again christians from a popular church in Nigeria. I supplied them laptops and all I heard afterward was excuses. I have learned my lesson and I wouldn't fall into that any time soon.

Yeah mehn. I just don't take most peeps here seriously. Some are fraud stars that wanted me to ship goods to them without making any payment . immediately I asked them to deposit half of the money before the goods arrives, they then dissappear in thin air. Some day I will get a real client that will buy the whole goods as they arrive. As I said before I will visit nigeria to see witg my eyes before putting my investment in the market

Before procedding with any forn of biz I have to ve on ground to weigh my clients amd the market demand in general.

Yeah I have been to onitsha main market before and saw how dedicated their business men and women are. I would love to bring containers to the east but transportation may eat up my profit. Lagos is a competitive market, sellers are takers meaning marginal cost always equal marginal revenue but there are room for huge profit supplying east if you own the truck that will transport your goods out there. I have access to goods on regular base. I have account with major retail stores in the US and they often alert me when they get container load of stuff for sell. Good write up. As mentioned earlier on, desperation has made many friends and families lost my respect. I strongly believe there are good people out there its just that they are rare. People on nairaland tried to burn me few times but I just smiled and walked away. I am in search for reliable biz partners and I am willing to support him/her provided they come in clean hands and financially buoyant . I will send you an email and then we exchange numbers

yes some are produced in naija still contra band but few gallons in the container wouldnt cause issue juts to mix up what you are bringing in.yes i also have a friend into spare parts business load his container in UK and sell all in few days, you know business differs but i urge you to buy varieties of baby stuffs and ship, come down here sell and go with your money, many Nigerians you can not trust them.As you do this little by little you make your contacts and grow your business.there are other stuff you can bring from US you can sell here fast, will help you research on that and see what i can come up with.
The bible says; it will be difficult for a camel to pass through the eyes of a needle which I then interprete to be, it will be difficult for a Nigerian to pass trust test. I have dealt with them on nairaland and in my family, same ol dishonest bunch. It takes a microscope to find a honest person, it used to be good back in the days but not anymore.Nigerians get excited when CEO of top companies like google visit Nigeria, meanwhile these guys spend months in countries like Namibia, Botswana and Tanzania doing biz with their citizens. Trust goes a long way and unfortunately we are not liked abroad cos of some bad eggs. I will be in Nigeria sometime but any further discussion between us should be email or phone call based.

I didn't wanna take the risk and end up crying. I may just come to Nigeria and see things for myself if people are not telling me what I needed to hear. promise2: @Pacemaker,You are welcome on this thread, you can bring in all these items but try and ask what is the market price.I dont know if you can finish selling a 40 ft container within a week but all the items you mentioned sell well here, like huggies diapers, huggies and Johnson wipes, baby blankets, baby soft shoes, baby stockings, baby food like sma and other american baby foods but make sure you buy less than 50 pcs cos the are contra band but few numbers are ok,children school bags and shoes, baby warmers, baby sterilizers, baby towels, then the johnson baby products from usa moves here alot, the soap, lotion, powder, oil and bath, baby bibs, baby sleep suits the short sleeve suits sell faster etc you can add few groundnut oil such sell here too. i hope this little info help, i hope some one else in o this business will come up with more info.Regards.
Are you based in Lagos or Eastern Nigeria? I wouldn't mind getting price list for those items you listed above. Daipers me think is a saturated biz cos majority of the baby advert I see here are on diapers sale

Thanks for this info, I heard about the groundnut oil thing few years ago but never took it serious...lol. Doesn't naija produce such commodity? I am oppportuned to have access to majority of the things you stated above but it has to be in container only. The companies wont sell few. I am glad you open such thread maybe we will get more buzz on here. I have a friend that brings car part to Nigeria and he sells within a week. I really need such biz I can do and then rush back to my base within a week . I will call my seller and ask for mix lot as you mentioned. One thing I don't like though people tend to price your stuff below cost price not thinking of the money spent on logistics.

I created a thread last week on baby and children products but never got a response on it . A major retail company here in the US had a 40feet container of children stuff for sell, I was tempted to buy and ship the entire goods but wanted to hear directly from buyers but no answer. In the future I may get same opportunity. My fellow bloggers, is such biz lucrative and if so can I sell a 40 feet container load of children clothes, strollers, car seats, walker and diapers within a week? I would not mind legitimate wholesale buyers to contact me

Interesting and intelligent questions. The revenue will generated will be in either party's account. It is not a govt contract. We could contract the services of lawyer if need be. No business without associated risk but always better this inclusive but very minimal.

If you are in Lagos, I prefer we can meet one-one to discus modalities. Finance should be ready by Friday as I am already in talk with other interested investors.

Nice job going on here,

I presently have a letter of credit to supply 'abc' quantities of xyz products @ a profit margin of N13,000/pc. If am to do it alone, I may not be able to meet the delivery deadline. So, I am looking for a financier who we'll do the supply together and share the profit 50/50.

For details, call 08050568713 or mail hassanismail1st@gmail.com. Let's arrange a meeting point to discus modalities.
In whose account will the revenue generated deposited into? Is this contract a government based? How do we sign a legal MOU? I am much interested in financing the said biz but would like to look it over and weigh the risk.

Just read an article on guardian newspaper about a young Nigeria dude called Nicholas Okoye. If this group wish to grow as planned some one that has link to this guy should link him up with this group for merger. He has a vision and I admire young visionary leaders of such. He is the CEO of Anabel Leadership Academy. @2ruink you should seek friendship with such well connected figure, he may help keep this group alive .

I will be in Nigeria soon and would like to ship in a 40 feet container of brand new consumer goods like walker, strollers, diapers and numerious children merchandise during my brief stay in Nigeria. Fellow nairalanders in such biz is it worth the stress, hoping to recover all my expenses during my short stay (3weeks)? Do I need to have list of items in the container in order to clear my goods? An agent said I have to itemize the whole inventory .Are there demand for such products? Point of Sale will be Lagos, please an honest answer will be appreciated. Children apparel will be included also.

Sky walker: This poo doesnt happen in embassies alone.
It happens in banks, schools, government offices etc
I just dont understand how peopleArik can be like this.
I was in a bank last week to collect a card that was supposed to have been ready three weeks earlier.

When I asked the customer care lady, if my card was ready. She was mute for like 5 minutes, then she gave me a disgusting look with her fat face, and said she hasnt seen any card.

This is one of the reasons why I hate Nigeria. Its citizens are too wicked.
The sad truth. I had similar experience at GT bank in Lagos. Lazy set of employees that have two things in mind during work hours ( bribe and gossiping ). Arik airline staffers are very notorious when it comes to customer service, sometimes you wonder why Nigerians are treated like sheep prior to boarding air plane from a foreign country. If I may ask when was the last time we were called giant of Africa? We are our own worst enemies

igbsam: Hey guys, i came across the auctionexport website and most cars there are flooded cars. Some wont start and some do start. Is it advisable to go for the ones that starts ? I am considering getting some cars from there. Not cos they are cheap but because i needed them both for commercial and personal use. Would like to know if buying the ones that starts would pose any risk or danger. Thanks for your response in advance.
Just recently a Nigerian car dealer based in Houston was given 15k dollars to buy a camry for a client based in Nigeria, he decided to use a short cut and then purchased a flooded car from hurricane sandy without the owner's consent. As we speak, the car could not start and he was told that it will cost him 10k dollars to change all the electrucal parts which includes labor. Meanwhile the car was shipped from NYC to Houston which was close to 800 dollars. Its been one month and the owner of the car have not heard from the Nigerian car dealer. Dude is running around Houston begging people to help him with cash to pay off his debt. Don't allow greed put you in a difficult situation. Labor in America is not cheap and mechanics that repair such cars charges between 45 to 70 dollars an hour. I recently bought a Range Rover Sports in Cali from auction for some one in Abuja and the car was less than 26k dollars including shipping
