Honestly I thought this thread died a natural death when all I saw on the month of November were spammers advertising their business. Its nice to see the buzz coming back. I just read of the meeting held december 16th, how was it if I may ask? I have been out of country vacationing and I hope to get involved when I am situated. @stpia or Patrick good information you are sharing on here. We should meet when I am in naija cos I may need advice on leasing of equipments to private companies. Guys lets know how the meeting went? |

Great thread. Nigerians in the US that are undecided on what major to focus in for masters should embrace Analytics with speed. Four universities offer this program in the US for masters as i type and I am currently enrolled in USF masters program. Myself and one other Nigerian girl are the only Africans in such program in USF, I would like to see more of us . Data mining is the future and companies pay close to 140k salary for newly grad. I doubt if Nigeria is there yet but if our generation will be the ones that will use such tools I will be morethan happy to contribute to see it grow.....Happy Thanksgiving peeps. |

Jerri: A big thank you to everyone! Most of your replies made me laugh so much after such a difficult Tuesday . I truly appreciate. I'm a little shy of few months to rounding up, so am 97% excited! Now, it was a hassle getting me to come do the service at all and I'm currently holding a cursade to encourage others to come get it done as we never know what tomorrow holds. What was your major, if I may ask? Some one raised a critical question, which were 401k ,pension....Are you willing to sacrifice those and suffer the consequence later on in life?I do believe you understand the cost of health care in states for non insured? Nigeria is a consumer market and that's why Chinese and Indians flood the country with all kinds of consumer goods. While you are in Nigeria, apply for companies like google, Microsoft, Cisco these companies may have good retirement benefit for their Nigeria based employees. I would like to do my NYSC just for the experience, also but....... My aunt is 82 years old, she has been in the US for 25 baby sitting all her grand kids, ask her to move back to Nigeria she will insult you. Check rigzone for foreign jobs also . |
NYSC / Re: Question For Foreign Trained Graduates/ Corpers by Pacemaker: 8:42pm On Oct 30, 2012 |
Jerri: Hello, this question is directed to all foreign trained graduates, who have come home for the National Youth Service,The US economy is rebounding but at a slow pace. If you insist on been patriotic by serving your motherland, I would advise you come back to states and then apply to companies you know have branches in Nigeria and other African countries. That way you can work you transfer back to Nigeria, if employed. Oil career post jobs located in Nigeria often by companies based in Houston and Oklahoma. I have friends that made such moves as employees for Mobile, Chevron and SHELL. Listen to those that are based in Nigeria, it ain't easy as people may make you think. I have spent time in Nigeria and the only reasons that will warrant my relocating is if I become a consultant to a foreign company out there in business data architecture. 1 Like |

zicoamani:Thanks my brother. One thing I noticed in quite a few number of Nigerians home and abroad is the act of "get rich quick scheme". Patience is virtue they say. Everyone wants to be rich but don't want to put the time. I hope some one will see all what I wrote and give testimony on how he/she utilized it. |

miqos02:Of course you have to weigh the Caliber of customers you have . I played Polo in Nigeria back then and I know for sure the guys and girls I hung out with will patronize my business while they spread the words amongst friends. miqos02:Few years ago some Thomas said GSM phone service was fallacy, the same Thomas said ATM card won't work in Nigeria. Anyways, pay me and I will write a business plan for you on this idea just to prove you wrong and if you are right, I will reimburse you all your money plus time wasted. This is not rocket science, those same boys and girls that pop champaign in clubs in Nigeria will patronize this service. If I could rent an LV bag worth $1400 for N10,000 for that much publicized event as seen on Bella Naija , why won't I do it ? I know for sure, my people love Efizzy. |

sparklebug: @pacemaker that reply was really funny! I've read tru dis thread and found your suggestions inspiring. Thanks my dear sister, sometimes we wonder why some people choose to be poor in that country. kids clothes are the way to go if you have trusted buyers. If you have family members in States, you can start buying clothes through them. I did that as a trial after my relative convinced me to be sending children's wears to her,the result was......(fill in the blank) hint: Psquare ft May D.....lol What about children monitor, used in watching new born while he/she is sleeping? Parents can monitor their child through their cell phone while at work or if the child is in separate room from theirs.Although, this device is not cheap.I am thinking of importing B.r.e.a.s.t milk enhancer to Nigeria for mothers having difficulty pumping milk for their child, I will only do that if a wholesaler is willing to split the cost. |

University planning consultants-or some call them educational consultants or University admissions or JAMB/GCE aid consulting professionals-offer a wide array of valuable services to students and their parents. For instance, they help steer students during their secondary school days to the academic that will increase their chances of being admitted into the University of their choice. They help them wade through the mounds of paperwork necessary to apply for both admission into Uni and filling their Jamb/GCE forms and they make sure the forms are submitted on time. Think about such biz that requires no capital but you get payed for your efforts. |

Majority of fashioners in Nigeria sell clothes, why not create a niche from such venture by doing something similar but with a different approach? If you have the Capital and you live in a big city like Lagos, Owerri,Port harcourt and Abuja where there are college students and party goers, I would suggest you open a clothing rental shop, where people will come and rent your designers clothes or traditional clothes for one fourth of the price or lesser that you purchased the clothes they are renting. Such business will be beneficial to those that wishes to have a particular high end designers bags and clothes for a special occasion but can not afford the cost of buying it. |

These examples illustrate a general truth about business opportunity: The true opportunity may not be apparent at the outset. Niches exist in every broad category, and your job as an entrepreneur is to figure out what they are and whether they offer a profitable business opportunity. |

For those of you looking for business ideas with little or no capital to start, I would suggest you start an organization business. A lot of people in Nigeria have much junks in their home and don't know what to do about it. This is where you come in to prove your expertise by helping them remove their junks and help in organizing their homes. Another business Idea one can start with little capital is Carpet(Rug) cleaning, specialize in cleaning carpet only and not the entire home. I hope these ideas help some one.....Cheers |

El Matteo:You sound very insecure and off point, honestly. I will leave this thread for you since you think I am trying to personalize it or dictate for you guys. 2 people liked my comment on ebook, which means they showed solidarity to my comment. Please learn how to comprehend before ranting and ones again, take your ebook story to the offline meeting. |

El Matteo: I have made my point clear. As advised on my previous thread, that ebook thingy attracts other ebook spammers and that was why I advised you share your ideas and success offline. Ebook simply means digital copy and these days publishers and consumers prefer their test books and novel to be on digital copies, I just don't fathom the way Nigerians whip and generalize the name in every would be business thread. I am not begging to be helped I am here to encourage youths to embrace 21 century development by becoming independent of government or family handout. I am planning on using this thread as a case study for one of my school presentation and if all my audience sees is ebook thingy, they will call me a joker. 1 Like |

I don't apologize for been honest. People are still vetting this group and seeing adverts on ebook is a turnoff to many, mostly when it is coming out from a country known for Internet scam. Apart from the aforementioned, such threads attract spams like the hair one posted above by a Chinese spammer. I am yet to introduce nairaland to my friends and would hate to dig my head in the ground when they call me out for reading non inspiring comments. If he discussed this offline, I will pay more attention to it off line that he posting it on here if I am curious about ebook thingy. This is what audience arevxpecting; I invited my Caucasian and Asian colleagues to my house for lunch after my child was born, they ate Jollof rice and fried plantain for lunch and fell in love with it. The next day a female friend called me for the recipes and the method of cooking it, which I then directed her to you tube. I payed close attention to their reaction after eating my food, which was positive. As i type they are still asking me to invite them for Jollof rice and plantain dinner. As an innovator, I knew packaging and selling such food during lunch hours to busy tech guys wont be a bad idea. I am not planning on opening a restaurant, which is cost effective. I have done a lengthy research on mobile food truck and so far no food truck seller sells rice in a unique form like us Nigerians. I plan on employing and teach few chefs how to make Jollof rice the way we do, buy a food truck and then get some strategic areas where it can be stationed during lunch hours. I am using what is around me to create additional income for myself and my family, that simply is the spirit of enterpreurship . I am expecting to hear more of such and not ebook nonsense. I spoke to an Indian guy that owns a food truck, he said after all expenses his monthly income is between $6k to $10k. Nigerians are intelligent, you will find them in fortune 500 companies here in the USA, holding strategic position. Do you think they are different from an average Nigerian in Nigeria like 2sexy and 2ruink? In all honesty, I did nothing wrong by saying it how it is and I owe no one an apology. 2 Likes |

Read my thread and tell me if there is any mention of ebook. We are trying to build an industry like linkedin, intuit, zappos, irokotv and you guys are here talking about ebook? Use your intelligence to create something and don't follow others. I may withdraw my partnership with 2ruik and co if what I will be hearing is ebook. Why can't you guys think of things that will attract diasporians so they can invest in your ideas? 1 Like |
