The question one should rather ask is whether NATO will survive if an isolationist takes power in the

Ship with 7,000 tons of grain leaves Ukraine port as Russia pulls forces from Snake Island

MOSCOW: Russia on Thursday began shipping grain from Ukraine’s occupied territory, with a vessel carrying 7,000 tons of cereal sailing from Ukraine’s occupied port of Berdyansk.[...]

Until now shipments have been transported by land, Kyiv says.
Thursday’s grain shipment from the port of Berdyansk marks the opening of a sea route to export wheat from Ukraine to third countries.
“After numerous months of delay, the first merchant ship has left the Berdyansk commercial port, 7,000 tons of grain are heading toward friendly countries,” Evgeny Balitsky, the head of the pro-Russia administration, said on Telegram.
Russia’s Black Sea ships “are ensuring the security” of the journey, he said, adding that the Ukrainian port had been demined.
Balitsky did not specify the final destination of the cargo.
Berdyansk is a port city on the northern coast of the Sea of Azov, in the region of Zaporizhzhia in southeastern Ukraine.
The southern Ukrainian regions of Kherson and Zaporizhzhia have been largely under Russia’s control since the first weeks of Moscow’s military intervention, and are now being forcefully integrated into Russia’s economy.

Marcos takes helm in Philippines, silent on father’s abuses

MANILA, Philippines -- Ferdinand Marcos Jr., the namesake son of an ousted dictator, praised his father's legacy and glossed over its violent past as he was sworn in as Philippine president Thursday after a stunning election victory that opponents say was pulled off by whitewashing his family’s image.

His rise to power, 36 years after an army-backed “People Power” revolt booted his father from office and into global infamy, upends politics in the Asian democracy, where a public holiday, monuments and the Philippine Constitution stand as reminders of the end of Ferdinand Marcos Sr.’s tyrannical rule.

When the Russians arrive in town with the Malian army, “they take everything they find in the market,” he told Al Jazeera at the M’bera refugee camp, in neighbouring Mauritania, where he and his family arrived about a month ago. “Often, they attack the people who try to escape. If you try to run, they’ll kill you without knowing who you are.”
Good. You bandits slaughtered villagers, stole their goods , for years because you were under the protection of the real bandits , i.e. the French army with which you mined gold and sold that gold on the black market. Now you cry and lie.
Guess what, even if the Russian took away what you blame them for, it would great. They are making you feel what you did to the people of Mali for decades.
Be Thankful to the Russians, some of you escaped. But keep in mind your camps will be bombed inside Mauritania, from where you are planning terrorist attacks on Mali and other countries in West Africa.

Multiple refugees either cited the Russians specifically as a threat or said the security situation in Mali’s decade-long war has gotten worse since Wagner mercenaries arrived.

“Many, many reports and many people that we interviewed talked about the army being more brutal,” he said, adding that the increased brutality has come “since Wagner’s arrival
The situation is worsening for the criminal terrorists and bandits who were running the show thanks to the protection the French gave to them. Good to hear now the tide has turned.
Wagner and the Malian army will seal that Mauritanian border and they are waiting for you at the border between Mali and Niger.

Cameroonian takes champagne to corruption hearing
Cameroon's former defence minister caused a stir in court in the capital, Yaoundé, after arriving to face corruption charges with a glass of champagne in hand.

Edgar Alain Mebe Ngo'o was charged in 2019 with diverting public funds and corruption. He denied the charges and was being held at the Kondengui prison as the trial continued.

But at the Special Criminal Court last week, photos published by local outlet Actu Cameroun showed him looking clean shaven and well groomed in a double-breasted grey suit, while holding a full champagne flute in his left hand.

Another photo showed Mr Ngo'o consulting his lawyers in court with the glass empty.

The charges are related to awarding of military contracts, including one to a company linked to his wife between 2009 and 2015, Journal du Cameroun reports.

Mr Ngo'o was sacked from government while serving as transport minister in 2018, after being tipped as a successor to long-time President Paul Biya.

Foreign AffairsMissiles Rain In Kyiv And Many Other Parts Of Ukraine During G7 Meeting, BBC by panafrican(op): 11:57pm On Jun 26, 2022
Ukrainians, this tells you a lot !

Dozens of Russian missiles have struck targets across Ukraine, with the capital Kyiv enduring the heaviest barrage in months.

A Kyiv apartment block was destroyed, killing at least one and wounding six others including a seven-year-old girl.

Ukraine says 14 missiles were fired at the Kyiv region on Sunday, but the strikes extended far beyond the city.

Other areas included the central city of Cherkasy, where one person died, and the north-eastern Kharkiv region.

The strikes came as leaders of the G7 group of the world's richest nations began a three-day summit in Bavaria, southern Germany, with the war in Ukraine top of the agenda. They are expected to promise further military support for Kyiv and impose more sanctions on Moscow.

"We have to stay together," US President Joe Biden told Germany's Chancellor Olaf Scholz just before the summit at Schloss Elmau.

Foreign AffairsZelensky's Conference With the AU: Only 4 Out Of 55 African Leaders Attended by panafrican(op): 6:04pm On Jun 26, 2022
Only 4 of 55 African leaders attend Zelensky call, showing neutrality on Ukraine and Russia

By Ben Norton (Posted Jun 25, 2022)

Western governments have tried to rally the nations of Africa to join their war on Russia. But the vast majority of the continent has ignored their pressure campaign.

For months, Ukraine attempted to organize a video conference between the African Union and Western-backed leader Volodymyr Zelensky.

France and Germany put heavy pressure on African governments to attend the Zoom call, which was held on June 20.

The conference ended up being a total failure, however. The heads of state of just four of the 55 members of the African Union joined the meeting.

In other words, 93% of the leaders of the African continent did not attend the video conference with Zelensky.

This was a clear sign of Africa’s overwhelming neutrality in the proxy war between the West and Russia.

France’s major newspaper Le Monde described Zelensky’s video call as “an address that the African Union (AU) has delayed for as long as possible and has been keen to keep discreet, almost secret.”

Ukraine had tried to organize the conference since April, but the AU had repeatedly pushed it back.

Le Monde noted that “the organization of the simple video message illustrates the tense relationships between Mr. Zelensky and the leaders of the continent,” who are “sticking to a neutral position.”

Citing an internal source, The Africa Report identified the very few African heads of state who attended the call as Senegal’s President Macky Sall, Côte d’Ivoire’s President Alassane Ouattara, and the Republic of the Congo’s President Denis Sassou Nguesso.

Also at the video conference was Mohamed al-Menfi, the leader of the Libyan Presidential Council, which is recognized by some countries as a legitimate government, although this is disputed by many nations, and Libya has remained territorially divided since a 2011 NATO war destroyed the central state.

At the meeting with Zelensky, these three or four heads of state were joined by Moussa Faki, a politician from Chad who serves as chair of the African Union, and some lower level diplomats of other countries.

The African Union apparently tried to keep the conference as quiet as possible. It did not post anything about the call on its official website. It did not tweet about the meeting either.

The only official recognition of the call came from Faki, in a lone tweet, in which he cautiously “reiterated the AU position of the urgent need for dialogue to end the conflict to allow peace to return to the Region and to restore global stability.”
