PhonesRe: Glo Internet Very Terrible by papaejima2: 4:24am On Sep 13, 2011
I use mtn fastlink but when I travel out of ph, I find out the service is either very poor or non-existent. So the last time I travelled to Enugu, I got a glo netpro. It was doing okay but when I came back to ph, the service was so terrible. I don't think there will be a service as bad as glo netpro in ph. In fact, I don't know whether mine was programmed to work well in only Enugu. People here say visafone is the bomb. When my subscription expires, I will try that out. All these crappy services makes me acquiring modems anyhow. At the last count, I have four, which can not even be resold for good money. So frustrating.

PoliticsRe: Rotimi Amaechi: Rivers Assembly Approves New Aircraft by papaejima2: 7:11am On Jul 24, 2011
Mr Maskara, don't you think that your living in Texas has made you far removed from the realities back home? The Texas Gov can afford to fly public in a country where there are scheduled flights every hour to almost every city. We should stop making unintelligent comparisons but make comments based on the reality on ground. It is very easy to bash public officials but we must try to be constructive in our criticism. If you lived in Nigeria, you would have known that Gov Amaechi is rated as one of the best performing governors, i.e comparatively speaking and his buying a jet for THE STATE would not stop him from "sinking boreholes". I guess you are intelligent enough to realize that when you posted this, not every one would agree with your reasoning just as I realize that you do not have to agree with mine. Chikena.
PoliticsRe: Rotimi Amaechi: Rivers Assembly Approves New Aircraft by papaejima2: 6:27am On Jul 24, 2011
Must we criticize everything? Gov Amaechi never said that Rivers State can not pay the new minimum wage. He only spoke on behalf of some states who can not, in his capacity as the Governors Forum Chairman. I do not see how his intention to trade an old jet for a new one should raise eyebrows. Someone even suggested chartering planes anytime he wants to travel. Have you done a comparative study on the cost implication? Another even suggested that the money should be used to sink boreholes! I know there are children here but can we be more mature in reasoning?
PhonesRe: Why Are Many People Selling Or Dumping Their Blackberry? by papaejima2: 11:41am On Jun 06, 2011
Last year, when the craze for bb was so hot, I went to the computer section to ask if it is advisable for me to buy one and its advantages over my smart phone and laptop. To my surprise, all the computer and phone gurus advised me not to waste my money on bb as it can not be compared to my smart phone. I am happy I asked for expert advise instead of rushing to "feel among". At my age and level of exposure and professional training, I should be able to weight every money spent and inherent benefits therefrom.
PoliticsRe: Nigerian Ambassador To Kenya: Son's Side Of The Story by papaejima2: 7:50am On Jun 03, 2011
This should teach all you self-righteous internet posters one big lesson: There is always two sides to a coin and it shows a lack of intelligence to pass judgement when you have not heard the other side of a story. Anytime a marriage story is posted, you will see people who have never been in a marriage rush out to post comments and judgement on a subject they know little about.

In most domestic violence cases, the women are usually the aggressor. Any man who marries a bad woman and have limited self-control can easily be turned to a woman-beater. It is telling that none of the witnesses in this case, including her two children, supports the account rendered by this woman.

I have learnt one big lesson though from this episode: It is better for you to destroy your marriage than let your marriage destroy you.
SportsRe: Nff Confirms N2,500 As Gate Fee In Forth-coming Match Nig Vs Argentina by papaejima2: 5:06pm On May 18, 2011
I am in a dilemma here. When I first heard about the #2500 ticket fee, I felt it was reasonable. The gate fee was, in fact, never an issue considering what I would even spend to watch the match from flight tickets to hotel expenses. I booked a return flight online with aero from phc to abj (28th May and 2nd June). I wanted to use the opportunity to also witness the inauguration on the 29th. Now they say Argentina is coming with their B team, without Messi, Tevez, Higuain, Milito, etc. I feel it is no longer worth the trouble but one aviation staff told me that aero does not refund tickets purchased online. Is there anything I can do about this or has my #21,200 gone just like that?

Dede1:
Since you are the election tribunal and Court of Appeals put together and have decided what will be outcome of incomplete electioneering process in Imo State, you should be allowed to wallow in stupor.

I think you should be reminded that few election results had already been dismissed by tribunals and courts before the assumed winners were sworn-in. The last thing I would wish for Imo State is court battle over this elelction. I hope Ohakim accepts defeat and move to another level of politics.

I am not a supporter of either Ohakim or Okorocha and do not expect or intend to benefit from the stewardship of either man. You sounded like your life depended on the favorable outcome of election for Rochas Okorocha. Please enjoy it while it lasts
Those who are informed know that the best Ohakim could get out of the Oguta situation is an order for election to be re-conducted there. You have shown how removed you are from reality and your knowledge (or lack of it) of the subject matter by suggesting that the case might even be dispensed off before Rochas is sworn in! How can the case possibly be filed and go through the Tribunal, Appeal Court and Supreme Court in 28 days. I am sure you do not even know that gubernatorial electoral cases no longer terminate at the appeal courts.

Please get your facts right before rushing to post on topics you know little about. Or do you think every user of this forum is a charlatan? When you post a comment on the net, you have opened it to the whole world for scrutiny. If the comments are criticized by better informed people with superior knowledge, you do not need to get annoyed. We learn everyday.
PoliticsRe: Imo State Supplementary Election Results And Proceedings by papaejima2: 5:23pm On May 07, 2011
Dede1:
What you wrote is not different from what I have previous posted. I do not think the electoral act is based on possible outcome or result of election but the conduct of election itself. My post is not information or news but a scenario of possible outcome if Ohakim chooses to challenge the INEC results.

The manner in which you have written your post does not indicate you are capable of handling the intrigues of democracy. Nigerians are very funny people indeed.
What I wrote is definitely different from your uninformed view. This was your last sentence: "I am afraid the whole thing is a setup for court battle which could truncate the political joy expressed by the people of Imo State toward initial INEC pronouncements."

Even if Ohakim goes to court on the Oguta issue, what will be his prayers? He could only ask the courts to order for a fresh election in Oguta. In any case, Rochas would be sworn in on or before 7th June and any possible re-run in Oguta would be conducted with Ohakim already out of office and trailing by over 46,000 votes. I don't see how that can equate to the gloom situation you implied in your post.
PoliticsRe: Imo State Supplementary Election Results And Proceedings by papaejima2: 12:50pm On May 07, 2011
Dede1:
If the alleged news that election was not conducted in Oguta LGA is true, the Imo State gubernatorial election result that declared Rochas the winner has a day in Court of Appeals. Democracy does not encourage disenfranchisement of any group people. I am afraid the whole thing is a setup for court battle which could truncate the political joy expressed by the people of Imo State toward initial INEC pronouncements.
Man please do not spread falsehood here. The law is very clear on this. The best reprieve Ohakim could get from the courts is a declaration that elections be conducted in Oguta LGA if it is established that the result from this area could possibly alter the final results. That is the only prayer that could be granted to him,  the results of the other 26 LGAs can not be canceled on account of what happened in Oguta.

If the courts order fresh elections in Oguta, Rochas would step down for the Speaker to act as Governor until the Oguta elections are conducted. With Rochas leading by over 46,000 and Ohakim out of power by then, I don't see how he can possibly tilt victory to his side with Oguta. He knows this and I don't think he bother himself with such an expensive and ominously fruitless venture.

EPOMA:
My question to all of you criticizing.Should Inec not allow this people to vote or register. Just some few things to note

1. If Nigeria as country was serious about keeping birth registry , this could not have been avoided.

2. we should look at the fundamental problems in Nigeria other than the outside(even women reduce their age in other to get married in Nigeria)

3. Our football teams uses wrong age to bring back trophies and we celebrate.

4. Why must it be different or disgusting when it comes to voting.

5.In the western world if someone in a shop or a club dispute your age , they ask for your ID, what happen to National ID or what criteria does Inec      follow for registration.
6.Our politicians declares false age , documents, assets. The last big time false documentation I saw in Nigeria was our signed budget by Yaradua when he was probably dead and up till today no one have been held responsible for such act.

This simples shows a failed state. with all the money pumped into local authorities, birth and dead registration should be intact. Do we expect INEC  to be the one to verify age before they register people given the sudden rush to register at a limited time some few months ago.
Come next election , it is still going to be the same old story.Until Nigeria as a country and people are ready to move the country forward, things will always be the same , so it does not surprise me. Countries like India,China ,and even Zimbabwe have a strong national ID program but Nigeria is all talk and spending money.

PoliticsRe: Bride Abandons Wedding For Nnpc Test? (PIX) by papaejima2: 12:44pm On Mar 28, 2011
This is not a scam, I was there in the Federal Government College in Port Harcourt and witnessed the whole scene. I was really pissed off because of so many reasons:

1. This lady could have avoided the scene. I kept asking how many minutes it would have taken her to remove her wedding gown. Or did she think that the test had already started so the wedding gown would gain her the sympathy of the officials to allow her to write?

2. I kept reminding people that taking her pictures and distributing it without her permission would be an invasion of her privacy but no one cared to think in the midst of the confusion.

3. The scene just portrayed how marriage has lost its value in our society. People, especially supposedly educated women, do not take marriage seriously these days. They just want to fulfill a "societal obligation" and get on with their lives. They hold other things more important than marriage as witnessed here. Most are totally unprepared to face the daunting challenges of marriage and the result is just too obvious.

4. The scene just shows how bad the unemployment situation is in this country. The venue was for experienced candidates and you need to see the desperation in the faces of people who should have been comfortably employed by now.

Under normal circumstances, no lady would allow anything to spoil her "happiest" day. But this is Nigeria, an abnormal country because of an abnormal leadership. The test that should have started by 1.30 pm did not even start until 4.40 pm. The lady arrived at around 3.00 pm!
PoliticsRe: Do Non - Northerners Support Buhari? by papaejima2: 9:29am On Mar 28, 2011
I am from Rivers State but I will vote for Buhari because I think he is the best suited, among the prominent candidates, to tackle the issue of corruption. Any Nigerian who has a brain knows that the biggest impediment to our development is Corruption and you can not fight corruption when you are corrupt. For me, that is the only problem we have as all the failings in every sector can be attributable to it.

I am an opinion leader in my area but when I tried convincing my people to vote for Buhari, many could not understand why I am asking them not to vote for Goodluck, their own. I do not blame them because they are not enlightened or educated enough to see the bigger picture.

We have been complaining of bad, corrupt leadership for ages now but when the opportunity comes by to make a change, we look the other way. Gani offered himself to us but how many of us came to vote for him? Maybe, we are hoping that God is going to come down from Heaven to change the situation of this country for us. If we still allow this same set of corrupt and inept leadership to continue, then we have no basis to complain afterward.
TV/MoviesRe: Dstv Explains Hike In Tarrifs by papaejima2: 9:27am On Mar 19, 2011
I wonder why there is so much fuss about Dstv. For me, it does not matter if a cable station has 100 channels as you would never watch more than 10 channels that interests you. I prefer a cable station that has 10 channels that are relevant to my interest to one that has over 100 that I would never watch. Even if Dstv is 1000 naira, I would never subscribe as they do not show UEFA Champions League and Europa League matches. There is a better alternative in CTL or MetroDigital. They have all the channels that interests me especially live European football matches including the EPL and Champions League so why should I bother myself with Dstv. Afterall, my handset has Dstv and that is as far as my patronage goes. Why would I pay 10000 for a service I can obtain for less than 4000 naira?
PoliticsRe: Jonathan’s Convoy Pelted In Gombe by papaejima2: 12:56pm On Mar 12, 2011
I am convinced that Buhari would make a better President than Jonathan but the way his supporters are championing him as an ethnic bigot and sectional candidate would make him lose the election. I don't think the man is what his supporters are indirectly portraying him to be. In the history of national elections in Nigeria, a regional or tribal candidate has never won. They are making the same mistake Atiku made at the PDP primaries. This kind of incidence and report from a traditionally biased newspaper would do more harm to Buhari's chances than to Jonathan's. If only his supporters would use their heads!

All these posters condemning the OP for stealing another woman's husband, did they even read the post at all? Even the headline states it clearly: Ex-wife. This is becoming too irritating: people rushing to post comments even without reading the post or are they so badly educated that they can't even understand simple English.

For the OP, my comment is that you have done nothing wrong and you sound like a very tolerant and understanding lady. Many ladies in your situation would have fallen out with the guy. I think you should take the relationship easy and keep your options open. The guy is obviously deluded or does not know what he wants. You don't want to be caught at the wrong end of this whole untidy affair.
Nairaland GeneralRe: Are Nigerian Gate-fees reasonable?: Vote Please by papaejima2: 9:23am On Feb 21, 2011
The question should not be whether the fees are justifiable but whether the audience are getting value for their money. In recent times, I have noticed that when you go to a Nigerian show, you are just paying to see the artistes. They really do not perform, all the organizers do is to play their music and the artistes just "shows face" on stage, pretending to be singing or shouting "yo, yo, yo". This explains why our local artistes do not even bother to do rehearsals for shows and some even attend more than one show in a day. Can you imagine that. Our so-call international stars have always fumbled in the world stage (e.g 9ice at the Mandela Show) because they can not meet up with the quality expected in such shows.

Personally, I have stopped attending "live shows" not because the ticket prices are unreasonable but because of the low quality of such shows both in organization and performance of the artistes. How can I pay just to see the musicians' faces. If I go to see Beyounce or Shakira, I know I am expecting quality performances from them and not just miming. Some here have argued on how much you would need to pay to see other foreign stars. But they fail to point out that such fees are commensurate with the quality of performances dished out by these stars. If our local artistes and the organizers of shows here can meet up with this kind of quality, paying 25k for a ticket can then be justified. For now, these shows are not worth even paying 1k.
CrimeBloody Valentine: 2 Unilag Students Killed In Cult Clash Over Female Student by papaejima2(op): 6:06am On Feb 16, 2011
The glamorous lovers’ day celebration on Monday turned bloody at the University of Lagos (UNILAG) when gunmen killed two students. Daily Sun gathered that the clash was between two rival cult groups, namely, and the Buccaneers,’ over a female student allegedly snatched by the Capone of the for Valentine celebration.

The action of the Capone , the source said did not go down well with the other group leading to the clash.
A student who witnessed the shooting said besides the two cult members who were shot dead, about four others sustained injuries and were ferried out of the campus by their leaders to shield their identity.

The sources said the cult members who carried out the attack were not UNILAG students but members from another campus, adding that the attack was carried out in a commando style with sporadic shooting.
An undergraduate student of English Department told Daily Sun that the Buccaneers’ group attacked the members while another student returning from the Mosque said those who carried out the killing were not from UNILAG because they did not cover their faces.

PoliticsDokpesi Dumps Atiku, Joins Jonathan/sambo Campaign Team by papaejima2(op): 11:34pm On Feb 14, 2011
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) yesterday released the list of the Presidential Campaign Council (PCC), a week after President Jonathan had concluded zonal presidential campaigns. The list has the former Director-General of the Jonathan/Sambo campaign organisation which operated from Plateau House as the Director-General of the council.

The council, which is to be inaugurated today, will operate from Legacy House. The list also revealed a harmonisation of members of the Plateau House, which handled the campaign outfit of President Goodluck Jonathan, while he was a presidential aspirant and national officers of the party to douse the cold war between those who led President Jonathan’s campaign team and national officers of the party at Wadata Plaza, the PDP national secretariat.

In fulfilment of his pledge to accommodate members of his rivals, former vice-president, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, Kwara State Governor, Dr. Bukola Saraki and former military president, General Ibrahim Babangida, the party will today inaugurate the PCC with pro-Atiku and Saraki’s men as members.

Saraki was one of the four presidential aspirants screened by the Northern Political Leaders Forum, (NPLF) before the Mallam Adamu Ciroma Committee of wise men picked Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, as its anointed candidate.
According to the list of members of the PCC Governor Saraki is the chairman of the Reconciliation Committee with pro-Atiku campaigner and former Senate President, Ken Nnamani, as member. The former Senate President was initially with former military president, Ibrahim Babangida and moved to the Atiku team, after the latter’s emergence.

The Director General of the Atiku Campaign Organisation and chairman of DAAR Communications, Chief Raymond Alegho Dokpesi, is a member of the PCC Publicity Committee and will wear a second cap as one of the resource persons for the presidential campaign.
The wife of Adamu Ciroma, leader of the NPLF, Inna, is also a member of the reconciliation committee, which also had the former governor of Ondo State, Dr. Segun Agagu, and former minister of information, Prof. Jerry Gana. Others in the committee are Alhaji Bamanga Tukur, Alabo Graham Douglas, Senator Ladan Shunni and Ambassador Aminu Wali.

Former chairman of PDP Board of Trustees (BoT), Chief Tony Anenih, will serve the PCC as campaign adviser while former national secretary of PDP, Chief Ojo Maduekwe, is secretary of the PCC. The six zones will be co-ordinated by serving governors that did same job for Jonathan before the January 13 national convention.

They are Governor Liyel Imoke of Cross River State (South-south), Martin Elechi of Ebonyi State (South-east), Gbenga Daniel of Ogun State (South-west), Gabriel Suswan of Benue State (North-central), Isah Yuguda of Bauchi State (North-east) and Ibrahim Shema of Katsina State (North-west).
Senate President, David Mark; Speaker of the House of Representatives, Dimeji Bankole; Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekwerenmadu, and the Deputy Speaker, Usman Nafada, are all expected to co-ordinate the National Assembly for the presidential campaign.

The former Inspector-General of Police, Mike Okiro, will head the security committee while oil magnate, Oba Otudeko, is the chairman of the finance and fund raising committee. The inter-party relations committee that will handle affairs concerning political parties that adopted President Jonathan as their flag bearer has Chief Ebenezer Babatope as the chairman.

Names of Nigerian business executive, featured under the list of donors to the presidential campaign with billionaire business mogul, Aliko Dangote, leading the pack. His business rivals, Femi Otedola and Mike Adenuga also made the list of donors. Others are Alhaji Abdulsamad Rabiu of BUA Group; Tony Elumelu; Alhaji Kashim Bukar; Chief Emeka Offor of Chrome Oil; Alhaji Sayyu Dantata; Jim Ovia (former Zenith Bank chairman) and a close ally of the late President Umaru Yar’Adua, Dahiru Manga and Kola Salako.

PoliticsRe: Nasarawa Protesters Hurl Stones At Jonathan’s Convoy by papaejima2: 12:47pm On Feb 08, 2011
The northerners are gradually turning coming from the north an electoral liability. Honestly speaking, I think that Buhari would make a better President than Jonathan but making his candidacy a regional issue would only lead to his failure. That is the mistake Atiku made. Instead of coming out with reasons why he is a better candidate, he and his advisers chose to play the ethnic/regional card. His only campaign issue was zoning and that did not go down well with the now better-informed Nigerian electorate. This ultimately led to his disgraceful defeat at the PDP primaries.

Gen. Buhari is seen as an incorruptible leader and that is the most important thing Nigeria needs at this moment. Personally, I have decided to vote for him even though I come from the President's region. What Nigerians should look out for is the qualities of the candidate and not where he comes from or other trivial issues like religion, etc. But Buhari's advisers should not make the mistake of portraying him as a regional candidate. That will alienate voters from the other regions and lead to his defeat. This kind of post will not do the image or fortunes of Buhari any good. OP, Please think about it.
PoliticsSpeaker Bankole, Gov Daniel And Abiola's Daughter Lose Pdp Tickets by papaejima2(op): 12:00am On Feb 08, 2011
Shock and disbelief trailed the release of candidates’ list for Ogun State yesterday, as the names of the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Dimeji Bankole, Governor Gbenga Daniel and Mrs. Lola Abiola-Edewor were not on the Peoples Democratic Party’s list released by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Abeokutal.

The former managing director of the Gateway Holdings, Mr. Gboyega Nasir Isiaka, candidate of the Gbenga Daniel faction of the PDP was dropped for former military governor of old Oyo State, General Adetunji Olurin who was backed by ex-president Olusegun Obasanjo as the party’s standard bearer.

Olurin’s running mate according to the list released at about 5.24 p.m. by the state Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Mr. Martins Okunfolami was the former chairman of Ijebu-East Local Government Area of the State, Mr. ‘Tunde Oladunjoye.

The daughter of former President Olusegun Obasanjo, Senator Iyabo Obasanjo-Bello was on the list as senatorial candidate for Ogun Central as against the name Hon. Lola Abiola-Edewor who belongs to Daniel’s camp.
According to the (REC), Mr. Peter Alawode and not the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Bankole is the PDP candidate for the Abeokuta South Federal Constituency in the April elections.

Mohammed Adetunji Odunowo’s name appeared as against the name of Governor Gbenga Daniel as the senatorial candidate of the PDP in Ogun East.
Some members of the state House of Assembly also had their names as candidates in the Obasanjo camp. They include, Akintan Job, for Yewa North. Mr. Babatunde Fadun, Ogun West Senatorial District as against the Daniel faction’s favoured candidate, Mr. Waliu Taiwo.
The governorship candidate of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) in the state, according to the list, is Senator Ibikunle Amosun with the former commissioner for works in the state, Prince Segun Adesegun as his running mate.

Former deputy governor in the state, Alhaji Adegbenga Sefiu Kaka is the senatorial candidate of the (ACN) in Ogun East. Mr. Olumide Osoba, the son of former governor, Aremo Olusegun Osoba was among the ACN candidates for the House of Representatives election. He is to represent the Abeokuta North, Odeda and Obafemi Owode Federal Constituency.

A member of the Daniel camp, Mr. Oginni Olaposi Sunday, while reacting to the list, said the joy of the Obasanjo faction would not last.
Oginni who is also the National Coordinator of the Yoruba Youth Congress (YYC), said: “Although I am not a prophet, but I can tell you that the joy of Obasanjo’s camp will not last. It is a temporary joy, which I am sure will not last at the end of the day. Definitely, this is not the last to be heard on the list of who will represent the state on the platform of the PDP.

Christianity EtcSouth Africa Orders Christ Embassy To Stop Faith Healing Ads by papaejima2(op): 3:21am On Feb 04, 2011
South Africa’s advertising authority yesterday ordered a Nigerian church to stop making claims on national television that it can treat diseases such AIDS through faith healing.

The ruling was made after anti-AIDS campaigners filed a complaint against Christ Embassy, a charismatic church based in Nigeria, which has paid-for programmes on the private e.tv channel on Sunday mornings featuring people recounting how they have been cured by the church.

“The message that is communicated to the e.tv audiences/viewers is that joining the Christ Embassy or its Healing School, or associating with it or attending its “faith healing sessions” will lead to its Pastor(s) transferring God’s healing powers to anyone who suffers from the list of diseases that are read out or announced in the programme,” the authority said in its ruling.

The church was then ordered to withdraw the advert from the station immediately. More than 10 percent of South Africa’s 50-million strong population is HIV positive.
The Treatment Action Campaign, the country’s main anti-AIDS lobby, said they lodged a complaint after it received a report that a woman with drug resistant tuberculosis, who had made significant progress on her medical treatment, gave up her medication because she believed Christ Embassy had cured her.

“She consequently became ill with XDR TB again and died but only after transmitting the disease to her children.
