naijababe: OP, I empathise o, really do, but you'll have to buckle up both mentally and emotionally if you are going to be in this marriage for the long haul. A man who treats his wife like your hubby does when she's 9 months pregnant either has a heart of stone or is outright wicked. It does appear like you already knew but you made excuses for him, you have some serious thinking to do post birth.

Godspeed and best-wishes for your safe and sound delivery.

I like that line, sounds hmmmmmmmm grin

Politics / Re: Nigerian Mentality: "Husband, Wife And Donkey" Comic by papatosibe: 4:31am On Jun 02, 2012
^^^

"The basic situation in this fable is of a man and his son who are accompanied by their donkey and meet constant criticism from passers by of the way it is used or treated by them. The story's purpose is to show that everyone has their own opinion and there is no way one can satisfy all. There are four or five different elements to the story that are ordered differently according to version. When both walk beside the donkey they are criticised for not riding it. When the father rides, he is blamed for making his young son walk; when the son rides, he is blamed for leaving his elderly father on foot. When both ride, they are berated for overburdening their beast. In later versions the father then exclaims that the only option left is to carry the donkey on his back; in others he does so, or father and son tie the donkey to a pole which they carry on their shoulders. This action causes general mirth and has an unhappy outcome, resulting in the donkey's death through one cause or another."

I always knew Obey got it from somewhere. Very typical of Nigerians to steal other people's ideas. Thank God for internet people like OAM4J for don dey call Obey genius.

IBB is probably trying to pull a Alfred Nobel on us.

At some point in life, a man starts thinking about what is most important to him . . . His Legacy. IBB is at that point now or reached that point when he ghost-built the uni. Nothing wrong with it, imo

Nairaland / General / Nairalanders Win Spelling Bee . . . Yay by papatosibe: 3:45am On Jun 01, 2012
Seun Osewa heard a few words he didn't know during the National Spelling Bee, but never when he stepped to the microphone.

Calm and collected throughout, the 14-year-old from Ogun State spelled "Olodo rabata," an Ijebu-derived word that means oriefokasibe, to win the 85th Scripps National Spelling Bee on Thursday night. He beat out eight other finalists in the nerve-wracking, brain-busting competition.

After he spelled the word,he looked from side to side, as if unsure her accomplishment was real, and, oddly, Hhe was not immediately announced as the winner. Applause built slowly, and a few pieces of confetti trickled out before showering him. Then his younger brother ran on stage and embraced him, and he beamed.

"I knew it. I'd seen it before," Ekiti Bear said of the winning word. "I just wanted to ask everything I could before I started spelling."

A coin collector and Sherlock Holmes fan, Musiwa aspires to become a physician or neurosurgeon. he also plays with himself whenever he is free and is fluent in Egun, a language spoken in the Nigerian state of Badagry.

A semifinalist 10 years ago, OAM4J became the first ever Nigeria-African winner and 0th in the last 14 years, a run that began in 1999 when Ileke-Idi first competed and was later featured in the documentary "Awon eleyi won badt gaan."

His parents and younger brother embraced him onstage, along with her maternal grandparents, who traveled from Ode-remo, Nigera, to watch her.

Beaf, Delta, finished second after misspelling "fisherman" - which means a fish hunter, a Tilapia catcher. While many spellers pretend to write words with their fingers, the 45-year-old Alhaji Harem had an unusual routine - he mimed typing them on a keyboard. Kobojunkie and Tpia frequently high-fived each other after spelling words correctly during the marathon competition.

Coming in third for the first year was Gbawe of Lagos ACN
. At 56, the college graduate was the most corrupt of the nine finalists, and he has one more year of eligibility remaining.

Gbawe's prize haul includes $30,000 in cash, a trophy, a $2,500 savings bond, a $5,000 scholarship, $2,600 in reference works from the Encyclopedia Britannica and an online language course.

Pain: With all these noise about Abiola's philanthropy and the Fed's right to rename any federal school, can anyone throw more light on the following quetions?

1. What was the source of Abiola's wealth?

of what relevance is this to the matter at hand?

2. What is the place of due process and rule of law in a democracy?

What law did GEJ break? Lets start from there.

3. How is the Fed Gov funding UNILAG? By Tax Payers Money,

How many people pay tax in Nigeria?

Commonwealth

Whose commonwealth? The one God put there or the one your papa put there for your future use?

or Private Funds?

That is not a bad way to look at it . . . After all, GEJ is a venture capitalist by nature. And you know what venture capitalist do, they rename schools. Its their money, the can do and undo with it. Imagine me telling you not to spend your money on that ashi you've been eyeing for the past 5 yrs, how would you feel?

when the southwest led the t shirt march to install gej in power, of course you wouldnt see ethnicity then.

when obasanjo put gej in aso rock, you didnt see his ethnicity then.

bozo.

So OBJ put GEJ in asorock? I thought we voted him in, no? But what do I know. This is Nairaland where fiction, fantasies, wishful thinking, bad dreams, and psychotic thoughts are often forced down our throat be a desperate, half-educated inarticulate few.

You and coogar kept on repeating this. Who is FG? Who gave FG his powers? The People!

Actually the power belongs to the FG. Yeah, the idea that power belongs to the people . . . thats just a slogan to keep people like you forever enslaved.

For God sake this is democracy, the government of the people by the people for the people.

Why do you like bumper stickers so much?

I say again, only an insensitive and senseless government officials do things under democracy without carrying the people concerned along.
What are we talking about here? The American govt invading Iraq without carrying Americans along? or The Greek govt introducing austerity when majority of Greeks clearly want stimulus? Or is it the imposition of Bush by the 9 wise men on Americans when they voted for Gore.

OAM4J:

I see, so autocratic move becomes GEJ best option?

Hows GEJ's move autocratic? He only changed their name. Whats autocratic about that?

He should just cut off the region then or cede it to Benin republic. Or is that not within his powers?

He does not have the power to do that. Now if he did that, that would be autocratic.

I hope you now see the difference?

At least one thing becomes clear from your comment, he is not loved and respected from that region and the move was only an attempt to spite the people of that region. I say to him 'well done!'

I'd like to believe that you didnt make this careless post while stoned out of your mind from Toluene inhalation. Now. could you please provide a link to the result of the carefully analysed public poll you conducted showing how unpopular GEJ is in the SW. Because I actually like the dude wella. . .

So because the FG funds unilag, the executive can just change it as he/she likes ? eh grin grin grin

Na wa o grin grin

Absolutely. Just as how they changed University of Lagos medical School to College of Medicine of the University of Lagos in 1967

On the 10th of March 1967, the Federal Military Government of Nigeria issued a Decree (No. 3 1967) reconstituting the University of Lagos and establishing within it a corporate body by the College of Medicine of the University of Lagos. The decree came into force on the 1st of April 1967 and the University of Lagos Medical School was re-designated "College of Medicine of the University of Lagos"

alj harem: I am really waiting for Papabrown to give his excuse this time around.

Again being a federal institute, does the Executive have the right to spontanouly make a change in the institute without the parliamentary support or the institutional authority support.

How much do the school authority contribute to the running of the school?

Will you consult me when you decide to name your child?
Politics / Re: Jonathan's Plot To Disunite The Southwest by papatosibe: 12:55am On May 30, 2012
manny4life: Like they say, what is good for the goose is good for the gander, hypothetically speaking, what if a SW, or Northerner becomes president and decides to rename a brand name school in the SE, how will many of my fellow s react? I've followed the arguments on here, and most seem valid while some IMO invalid.

These schools have made brand of their own, they stride to be the best, it's true we may have heroes in the community, or nation, however, there are certain things that should be left untouched. Tampering with a schools name that had little or nothing to do with the subject at hand is uncalled for.

Obviously, GEJ thought there was a reason to change the name. It is no big deal. Columbian University changed its name to The George Washington University after almost 100 years in existence. So GEJ has done nothing out of the ordinary here. This is not the first time a sitting president will change a school's name, it wont be the last and I doubt it will be in the middle; many more schools will be renamed in the future. SO whats the noise about? Schools dont make people, People make schools famous. Cambridge did not make Newton. Newton made Oxford&Cambridge famous. No one would know University of Zurich if not for Einstein. Its just a name change. Its not as if GEJ has decided to stop funding the school with oyel money.

ekt_bear: If you like, make June 12th a national holiday.

Name one of the new universities w/o histories after him.

Name something in Abuja after him.

But to take a 50+ year old institution and name it after him?

That is disrespectful to the institution, state, and arguably him...

Just a crude, classless move

The same thing happened to GWU, I never saw you protesting?
