jennykadry: Growing up(in primary school to be exact)I used to wonder why Nigeria was so different. I would visit other countries for holiday and compare and contrast. Nigeria to me then had a long way to go and still does....my parents knew then that nigeria wasn't for me. I would write down benefits of each country I visited and compare it to nigeria and then ask my parents questions on why Nigeria was still so far behind. My parents insisted I finished high school in Nigeria just so I don't forget our culture...again they knew living in Nigeria wasn't an option for me.

We would visit some countries and we were treated with respect at the airport but when we returned to Nigeria, we faced corruption in the hands of our custom officers. Nigeria is not home to me and I am glad my children go not have to put up with the nonsense I had put up with in Nigeria.

Sugar coat your words as you like...NIGERIA IS A USELESS COUNTRY. I lost a relative to cancer some months back. A battle that doctors here said could have been fought and won if only the doctors in Nigeria had detected it earlier. Each time he went to the hospital they gave him panadol and sent him back home. It got worse and he kept going from hospital to hospital until he sought medical advise outside the country. They detected cancer but too late it had spread. The man is 6ft under now.

I had an accident last year and let me not begin to tell you's how efficient our health professionals and passersby are. One called the ambulance and before I could say jack benson...helicopter, ambulance, police and the fire department were at the site. I was airlifted to the nearest hospital. That couldn't have happened in Nigeria....so don't blame me if I ain't as patriotic as you want me to be. I can't be patriotic to a country that has nothing to offer me. If I was in trouble overseas the last high commission I would contact is Nigeria's. I know I will be wasting my time.

You call us second class citizens yet our adopted countries would go through hell and back to keep us safe. I will be visiting Nigeria very soon and I have recorded my departure on our immigration site just so they know where I will be. After completing the form, I got an email from them advising me to rethink my visit because Nigeria is not a safe place to travel to now...my own fatherland kwa? Yes second class citizen but they care about me more than Nigeria will in the next 50 years.

Nigeria truly is useless and unsafe. A country where the rich spend their money with both eyes open...here no one cares if you win trillions of dollars in lottery. You are safe to spend it as you like with both eyes closed.

My children are my responsibility and it is my responsibility to keep them safe with the help of God and Nigeria isn't that country that will do the job for me.

swiftycool: I wouldnt blame or discourage anyone who wants to migrate to a more organised country than Naija even if they just have basic educational skills. Nigeria and Nigerians generally have a low value system for human resource unlike o cther advanced countries. Many of the young ones looking to get out of this country are aware that in a country where physical labour is appreciated and well enumerated , even with very little skills they can hit the ground running.

I run a company in Nigeria and see every morning eager hardworking but disadvantaged young men who craved for the education many of us on here boast of but they were unable to attain due to limited family resources or other factors which a good goverment ought to have helped with. These young men arrive very early to site hoping to get any manual labour work, such people are in very high demand abroad and the longer hours they work the higher they are paid that you might not even be able to differentiate between them and those in a white collared job.

Hence op there is nothing wrong with a person leaving Naija for greener pastures without attaining "big cerificates" as those countries have a nitch for even the not too bright and treat them quite fairly.

ISpiksDaTroof: You really what to compare numbers of how many Americans go into Nigeria?! Are you for real?! I don't get your point. I lived a good part of my adult life in Nigeria because I was posted there and I'm telling you that your country is simply not fit to be inhabited by humans. This may sound harsh but it's the truth. The country is disorganized and needs a total reorganization from the top down. Even with all the comforts the U.S tried to provide for us in your country, life was still very stressful. My job meant I had to mix with the locals a lot so I got to see firsthand how difficult life is. Let me tell you how bad it is: one of my daughters never wants to go back there! She says those were the most miserable years of her life. Most of the things she took for granted were luxuries in Nigeria. Basic living amenities; Water, Electricity, Security, Job, affordable housing, Good roads, functioning public transportation, health care etc are not available to the populace and guess what? It adds to the stress level of the people. Do you notice how aggressive the average Nigerian is? They're always screaming, even on TV. Always angry. There's always fights on the streets. Notice even the animals are very aggressive. You can't pet a strange dog in Nigeria, it'll maul you!!! It's the society. That's all were saying. Even the animals are stressed.

The mistake most of you are making is that you're equating simple, easy, stress free living with wealth. That is always your comeback; MONEY! "...Well I can make N5gazillion doing this and that, while you'll be washing toilets in Dublin".

I guess it's hard to explain some things to someone that has never experienced them. You can have all the money in the world and still be poor as hell. If you don't have peace of mind you don't have anything. And Nigeria simply does not provide peace of mind. You will adapt, yes, but it will take a toll on your health.

The fact is that everyone has different level of tolerance.

In my case, I got frustrated because the things I used to take for granted became luxury while in Nigeria.
So you know, I left Nigeria when I was 19. I attended Secondary School and then moved to ABU, Zaria for 1 year before I left Nigeria.
So, I am talking as someone who has witnessed both worlds.

My biggest issue was the concept of time. Appointments do not mean much because most people do not keep to time. Blame other factors (hold up, TP, ego, etc) too. Someone has to be paid unofficially to get anything done.

As I stated, I drove myself. And I very well knew that if we ever got into an accident, we are "gonners!". So I had to teach the two individuals that go with a crash course on Basic Life Support (CPR). And in some situations where we had security details with us, I made sure everyone went through the training because you never know. Things like these I would worry less of where I live now.

N3k minimum to power generator daily? And at the end of the month, the PHCN bill would come in and they expected payment. Payment for no light?

One peculiar thing about Nigeria is that once you make money, the first thing is to imprison yourself--(high wall with barbed wires).

What I do not understand is why Nigerians equate criticism to enmity. People criticize because they care. A lot of folks "mouthing off" here still live under the care of their parents, so they will never understand. But reality will set in when they graduate and life in Nigeria throws them a curve ball.

dannysoya: For me I see no problems with Nigerians who want to move abroad. When your country cannot even provide its citizens with the most BASIC needs of life what the hell is the point of staying in the country and suffering all in the name of "patriotism"? Nigeria is supposed to be one of Africa's richest countries yet we cannot give our citizens constant electric power supply? How on earth does that work? I understand that I am speaking from the position of a middle class Nigerian but the story remains the same. It's not possible to live a stress free life in Nigeria if you do not AT LEAST have middle class money. Being a working class Nigerian living in Nigeria is a death sentence. WHY?

One thing I like about most Nigerians is that we do not ask for much. ALL most of us want is to live a nice life with all the basic amenities provided CONSTANTLY and a steady source of income for ourselves and our families. Nigeria cannot even provide that. Some people leave the country because they are frustrated with just the electric power supply situation. I lived in Nigeria for 16 years and not ONCE did we actually have constant power supply. Yet we rake in all kinds of cash from not only oil exports but also other agricultural exports. WHERE IS THE MONEY GOING?

Then we get into our deeply useless education system. Not ONE Nigerian University in the top 1,000 schools in the world and we're supposed to be the giants of Africa? How does that work?

Added to this is deeply ingrained system of CORRUPTION in the country. Starting from the idiots in positions of power right down to the common man. Literally everybody is crooked in Nigeria these days. It is literally impossible to have lived in Nigeria for more than two years without having to pay off someone to get something done. Why must that be the case? Why can't due process be followed?

Nigeria is a like a really bad concoction. Extremely hot and humid weather that only gets worse with generator fumes every night even though we're supposed to have one of the world's largest oil reserves THEN we add on top of that the most corrupt politicians on planet earth who will literally kill and sacrifice to ensure that their position in power is maintained for as long as possible THEN finally we add, a largely apathetic population that cannot see what its government is OPENLY doing to it. After reading that, it is not difficult at all to see why people cannot stay again.
There is literally NO aspect of life in Nigeria that has not been touched yet by corruption and frustration. It's a deadly mix and if people have the chance the get the hell out legally, they need to grab that chance with two hands.

At least get yourself a proper education somewhere else and then return to Nigeria if you really love it so much and believe it will change. As far as i'm concerned, I'm not entirely sure I see where this so called "change" will start from. We're about to go the polls for ANOTHER election that has a former military general who is not content with the money he chopped in 1985 and is trying to return to get some more, a former vice president part of an immensely CORRUPT system and an equally CORRUPT and daft political figurehead who has already shown he cannot run this country properly as the leading potential candidates and all of us are going to take ourselves to the polls next year and decide between the SAME people who have been ruling and DUPING us in some capacity for more than 20 years. Like a stupid f****** dog that goes back to its vomit every single time. Absolutely disgusting. They no longer even hide it like they used to. They OPENLY steal money from our pockets every day and continue to get away with it.

Only VIOLENT resistance can change Nigeria. Our politicians understand no other BUT violence. The citizens are the only ones who can change Nigeria. Either you rise up and demand PROPER and lasting reforms or you continue to get duped. I watched the Arab Spring revolutions and though to myself if only these protesters can come to Nigeria and see the situation of the citizens, maybe they might appreciate their situation a bit more. If ANY country needed a revolution the most, it is NIGERIA.

RANT OVER.

tandj: The truth is, all is not about money.

In nigeria, majority r dreamers(thanks to our church pastors and imans) but outside, its as real as it can be.

In all around lagos, no recreational parks for kids? Only shoprite and agbero filled bar beach.

How do we sensitize our kids?
What about d elderly?

Nigeria is a country where at 35 a lady is stigmatized cos she is single, a divorcee is ridiculed.

Nigeria is a country where u work 8 to 5 everyday and go home with stipend at d end of the month( giving way to embezzlement cos ur salary is never enuf)

Nigeria is a place where all d men of God buy jets, no accountability in church, churches and mosques put mega speakers outside to disrupt people of night's sleep(hush, don't say nadder, its house of God)

I don't wanna talk about d government.

Nigeria is that country with substandard goods everywhere.
Gosh, what is good about nigeria?

Folks, travel and see how far.

Our universities r now glorified secondary schools. No work even after masters.

Tell us one war that your forefathers and fathers won.

Tell us one established Kingdom that your chest beating fathers had apart from cannibalistic kingdom.

Even minorities had empire, not to talk of a warring ethnic group like yorubas, or jihadist Hausa/Fulani extraction. Which empire can you point out that is part of your history, apart from the human beings all of you were feasting on.

Lagos is a no man's land? Even your clueless Zik of hamlet attempted the dubious, we showed him the way to his red mud and surely history will repeat itself with this generation.

Remember how all of you ran away during June 12 and it was not even you we had scores to settle with. How much more when it is you. It is either your blood will turn Atlantic Ocean to red Sea or you will part the Atlantic Ocean to escape the onslaught against you.

Bunch of shameless cowards, lousy losers, they lack vision, they lack tact, they lack diplomacy and they are militarily bankrupt. they don't think before acting, they think with their akpu filled chest. Why won't they, when the brain cannot even stay in a flat.head.
