Education › Re: Is Ekiti The Most Educated State In Nigeria? by Pasca07: 10:03am On Sep 08, 2014 |
mandarin: The Ekiti I know is one of the largest sub group of the Yoruba coming second to the Oyo especially when groups on Kwara are added to the Oyo family. For the poster that has never met an Ekiti, keep searching, someday you will find. That education standard in Nigeria has fallen and one could only imagine a lot that raise arguments on who is more educated. The story of states performing better in SSCE may mean states with more special magic centers, the case of Anambra comes to mind. Th question is nice observation,i wonder why some bigots on nairaland are using waec to judge the best educated state in nigerian where we have so many exam malpractice going on all over the country......... |
Education › Re: Respect First Class Students In Public Universities by Pasca07: 4:06pm On Sep 06, 2014 |
actYourDreams: In case you are wondering, I graduated with a first class (4.64/5.00) in Mathematics from a highly-rated public university, so I know what I'm about to say.
A fundamental problem in Nigeria is "class"! We classify everything so badly that we forget that everyone, either first class, pass, no-degree class etc, has got something to offer. Perhaps this also contributes to the divisions in different organisations or communities in Nigeria.
I know the hatred I suffered while trying to simply prove to myself that "I can achieve all things through Christ who strengthens me" while in School. FYI, He still strengthens me till today! Why don't we just let the first class or 3rd class or whatever class be! It is high time we as individuals learned to respect everybody, a 3rd class or pass or even someone who never made it to school. This is 2014 for heaven's sake, let's stop this academic discrimination!!!
There are multiple factors that contribute to a student's achievements. Almost no expects a talented scholar to achieve much while under financial, emotional or spiritual stress. But if against all odds that individual still achieves 1st class, that is good for her, but that does not make her better than an individual who, even though she had everything going well with her, did not achieve first class. Perhaps this second individual has a different priority, a different goal, a different passion in life that is just not academic!
We may want to respect everybody and choose to celebrate people who add values to other people's lives, and stop glorifying people based on what they achieve for themselves! best post so far |

raphy: in my own view stayin homefor a long break is not good for young children, some girls can even get pregnant when their parents hv gone to work.they need to b in school.and the health minister need to provide ebola screening equipment fo all the schools in the country, that will be a sure way to fight the virus. wht do you guys think? nice write up am even surprise how some ppl here are shouting october 13 as if the EBV will vanish before then my suggestion is that, govt shd distribute machine detector all over the schools in nigerian for scrutiny of the students before they resume... |
Business › Re: Africa’s Largest Economy, Nigeria, Drops In Global Competitiveness Ranking by Pasca07: 9:34am On Sep 04, 2014 |
Onegai: As usual, people will blame the US, APC and anyone else except themselves for their problems.
We import Paper, Toothpicks, Clothes, Shoes, Jewelry, Pencils, Palm oil, Apples, Almond oil, Fish and Meat, the list goes on.
Meanwhile, oil exports are our main business and corruption has given it to few wealthy people.
If we continue like this, we're going to be a big economy made up of 20% wealthy and 80% poor. And it's already showing: Education standards keep dropping (no-one accepts your local degrees internationally without backup from a foreign degree, public or private university), we are losing our Healthcare business to foreigners, just like Telecomms was lost. So Nigerians are getting poorer, but you can't see it until you change your salary to any foreign currency and realise you're too poor to relocate on your current income. You're also losing jobs, so that Employment you've been crying and praying for, it's not coming soon.
Instead of stoning every single politician in this country, so that they fear the masses and do the right thing, you are fighting for them, as if they will give you a job after (story!). Continue! Foreigners are happy to profit off Africa's foolishness, as usual. best post so far....... |

Majority of them don't even have a good job to brag about. The thing is yes the result may be poor but there's no crime in writing that same exam again next year and work hard to do better. You still have a bright future ahead of you and the battle may be lost but the war is not. If you really believe, you'll achieve. Have that mindset that impossibility is nothing and trust me, you'll go places. tivta: . My answer to all your questions is yes. Any uni student that does what you listed above is ignorant and doesn't value life. Are they sent to school to kiss and have sex? Don't you know children are the fastest means of spreading the virus? Google things first then you will understand. google?lol if your answer to my question is yes then you need your brain examine,so if the virus continue till next year student should stay at home till then?besides has the federal govt announced the precise date when the ebola virus will stop? Like i said ealier dis is a useless idea from the govt because that is not the solution to the virus besides do u know dat dis children are also in school presently for summer coaching? |

tivta: how can you people be so shallow minded? Any student in university who doesn't who the fundamentals of ebola should not be in university. Its like saying market women, men, banker workers, civil service should all go on break. Its like you where never a kid cause those of us who know how kids from primary to secondary school behave know that they are fund of playing with each other especially during break time. If any of you have children or siblings you would know that is is the best option to stop the spread. I pity this slow thinking generation. i think u are the one that need to think wide,my question is 1.with dis new development will it stop the spread of ebola virus? 2.what makes u think adult in the universities can't contact this virus?what about body contact and university students dat engage in sex, kissing, and other contact? 3.will this new development find a cure to EBOLA virus? |

maestroferddi: I see. You want to be hired by General Electric as a technical expert...
You don't to be exploited by unscrupulous Asian slave-drivers..
Lofty ideas...
Then just take a look at your aptitude.
Now whose fault is it that you cannot analyse and comprehend a basic thesis and make a compelling rejoinder.
Does it say something that you allow impoverished Asians to come lord it over you in your country when you have an innumerable army of compatriots in the diaspora regaling with tales on how London is situate in outer space and New York is the very capital of utopia?
My friend it is time to use your head and stop finger-pointing... i have already dumped this trash u wrote above inside a waste dusbin. Imagine other countries are living like a king in this entity called nigeria due to the non-challant attitude of our leaders while you as a citizen of the country are threated like animal not even like a third class citizen... Your so called leaders don't even believe in nigeria let alone someone like u....... |

1stCitizen: You see why Nigeria will forever remain the way it is or even get worse. This same corrupt mentality you have just displayed. If I may borrow from your genetic analysis, It is only in Nigeria you see what is bad and try to paint in as good....maybe you are right and that is.... the black man will forever celebrate mediocrity to high heavens. Tell me one thing about Nigeria that makes you proud.
This is why Nigerians can never revolt over anything abysmal. We suffer and smile. The nations that had bloody revolutions to change the political status quo in their countries were simply fed up with the way thing were going. They condemned and said it the way it was, took to the streets and defied bullets to ensure there was positive change. What do you do? come in here to act divinely patriotic. Carry on.
You believe everyone that emigrates to other countries are treated like second class citizens. I can only offer pity to such blissful ignorance. I can only tell you this..... It will be better to be treated like a third class citizen elsewhere than like an animal in your own country.
LET ME HELP YOU RE-PHRASE YOUR OBSELETE PARABLE. It is only a wise man that takes advantage of another person's fire very far away than make fire in the devil's den
The Germans you mentioned somehow formed one of the largest groups that emigrated to what is now called America.
I gave up a long time ago when I got well meaning friends abroad, pulled funds together and tried to invest in that country to create jobs and value for us stakeholders only to be cheated by every staff/government officials and a staff murdered in broad day light in a robbery operation that lasted an hour without police intervention.....only for the evil Nigerian police to come later to start demanding for money to do their duties we were being taxed for. Sorry for you....I have nothing to be proud about that country.
It took another Nigerian in diaspora to develop drugs to treat ebola. Why did he succeed? Ask yourself? He stayed away from the devils den and got the tools he needed. Is he more intelligent than local scientists? Absolutely NOT!!! However if he was in Nigeria, he would have been frustrated by the entire society(Govt, Police, dishonest relatives and friends, devilish suppliers, evil staff, robbers, kidnappers & ritualists) by now. Please shift go corner and be proud of the mediocrity abound your environment. 1billion likes for u |

maestroferddi: You are evidently missing the point.
No-one said Nigerians should be docile. Maybe you are confusing assertiveness with rabid negativity and indiscretion.
Americans are assertive and vocal but such traits stop at the instance of allegiance and patriotism to their motherland.
It is almost inconceivable to see an American casting aspersions on America and her institutions. Wherever they are, they believe that they are the best. Whatever anyone else does, they benchmark America as the reference point.
Does the foregoing mean that Americans don't have issues with their country and some of their domestic and foreign policies? The answer is no. They have just been groomed to cultivate a positive disposition to their country.
The point I was making on the burger issue is that a typical Nigerian wouldn't devote the same level of hardwork and dedication were he to get the same opportunity in Nigeria. He would pooh-pooh the job and consider it menial but the moment he gets overseas he would do the same job with zeal and gusto.
So what we need to inculcate is an attitudinal change that can enhance productivity and personal effectiveness and not fantasy about life in America.
There is no land of milk and honey in our material world. Even in the streets of America, there are muggings and armed robberies. We are not saying the authorities should be tardy in providing adequate security of lives and properties, but it is still what I have been saying.
That one left Nigeria ten years ago should not mean that one should forget the realities on ground. Even in the sanest of climes, security consciousness is still a very practical attribute.
No developed country evolved overnight. Granted there are many grey areas, but quantifiable progress is being made.
How many Nigerians would sacrifice what Americans give up to keep their nation at the forefront of global leadership?
Let's start asking for what we can do for our fatherland and not necessarily the other way round.
If we start doing the above, we shall get there. Are u sure u are alright?pls i need perfect answer because with all the gibberish you just spewed out it shows you are sick. I doubt if you even live in nigeria, your assertion is baseless, pls visit all the deadly lebanesse factories in nigeria and see how graduates are suffering with meagre amount of salary which is not less than 17-22 thousand naira per month with 12-13 hours work perday with hard labour |

Why invite ova 2k applicants just to select like 3-10 candidates? Its absurd. And rber, after d NIS wahala, d President gave a directive dat no agency shud undago such recruitment again or face d consequence, it mins no agency shud invite a very large numba in one place just to select a very few, thereby endangerin d lives of oda dat may not b successful...
