asha 80:
Tpia indegenes of oyo and lagos ARE FROM THE SAME COUNTRY.That article you brought up holds no water.
This is serious.

Yes it is the same country, but every state have their allocation. If one state decides to take care of its destitutes, does that imply destitutes from other states should migrate there right from the same country under the same resource allocation to each state?
PoliticsRe: Akala, Fashola On War Path Over Dumping Of Destitutes by Pataki: 4:15pm On Apr 10, 2009
Moves:
@ Pataki -- Are those con indigenes that commit crime in lagos deported as well to their respective states of origin to serve their sentences or after serving their sentences, Also all those agberos and areas boys have they been deported as well, this is just BRF starting illegality or the helpless and starting to question the intelligence as all his policy seems to have human costs -- And this is not always a problem but when in all cases it tends to affect the least and less priviledge amongst the society it becomes one, This is illegal
No it is not illegal. Committing a crime in Lagos, you have to pay for the crime you have committed in the state in which it was committed. Hoping to live on the benefits of a state which is not your state should not be allowed. Fashola has not rejected beggars from Lagos state, rather beggars from other states, should go back to their state and let their state handle its affairs. It is that simple.

I cannot believe an educated being would make a statement such as this. Beggar forced to pay taxeshuh Na wa o! So preposterous!

@ Kobojunkie,
See, you are spoiling for this to get personal. What relevance does my age play with this discussion? Who started the personal confrontation?

I would ignore that you have issues and keep drumming back to you where your arguments are flawed. SHOW ME HOW THE ACTIONS OF LAGOS STATE GOVERNMENT IS WRONG?

Kobojunkie:
Oh Now it is ignorance when requesting that you state why a state would DEPORT to another state? Destitutes are not citizens of a state even when they are citizens of the same country in which the state exists in?Dude . . .  you can continue with this throwing of claims at me all you want but I wait for you to back all this up with actual factual details  of sort. DOES NIGERIA ALLOW FOR STATE TO STATE DEPORTATION AND ON WHAT GROUNDS? Simple!!
You are simply jumping ahead of yourself. I have asked of you. . . . . . .
Pataki:
Why cannot a destitute from Ogun State go and claim any financial assist from the Niger Delta? Is there a law in Nigeria that states that Ogun State citizens should go Bayelsa to claim financial assistance for their impecunious affairs?
Answer my question or best still hide under your Roflmao!!!!!!
PoliticsRe: Akala, Fashola On War Path Over Dumping Of Destitutes by Pataki: 3:50pm On Apr 10, 2009
Kobojunkie:
Dude . . . . No one is making it about you. I asked you those questions wondering why you were trying to draw some connection between those twisted claims made and this topic here.
You are spoiling for another series of cyber bashing, if my arguments cannot simply remain as arguments. You do not have any right whatsoever to refer to my claims as twisted, nor make the subject of discussion personal with those questions you asked of me. Except you are ignorant that, deportation does exist.

Kobojunkie:
We are not talking about a COUNTRY or COUNTRIES. This is about the relationship between STATES WITHIN THE SAME COUNTRY. Would ALABAMA deport you to DELAWARE for any reason? What Law allows that? Or reason supports that, giving that you have committed no crime? Or are you saying that ALABAMA can somehow DEPORT YOU BACK TO your NIGERIAN State of Origin when it deems you an INCONVENIENCE in some future, even though you have a RIGHT TO BE HERE as an AMERICAN?
Are you ignorant that deportation does exist? What kind of argument are tendering here? Wasting resources of a state on citizens who are not of that state? Why cannot a destitute from Ogun State go and claim any financial assist from the Niger Delta? Is there a law in Nigeria that states that Ogun State citizens should go Bayelsa to claim financial assistance for their impecunious affairs?

I have to ask, what are you doing??
Again, what the frell are you doing??
HUHhuh
This discussion is not about me! When is that going to sink into you??

asha 80:
You think say alao akala go send?
If he likes he should not send. But at least, the citizens of Oyo state would witness what Fashola is doing and it is their right to ask Akala what he is doing when other states are making lasting impacts.
PoliticsRe: Akala, Fashola On War Path Over Dumping Of Destitutes by Pataki: 3:31pm On Apr 10, 2009
asha 80:
@pataki

How do we determine who is a lagosian or not?
I am sure there are ways to determine such. After all, the National ID card was undertaken some years back. But the truth is that, this action would spark-up states taking responsibility for their people.

Kobojunkie:
Fashola does not have to house them or give them scholarships at all, so I see no reason why that ought to be a problem. I mean he could render begging illegal in Lagos, arrest all these people and use them for cheap labor in the prisons or something, anything, but deportation makes sense to me.

If there is no law allowing such, why is it allowed? Where will this end? What stops kano state from deciding to send all Ibos and Yorubas back to their home states? What stops other states from doing the same? Imagine what would result if other governors decided this was something worth practicing so they can use allocations for just their own people and not for the destitute in society or those who are not originally from their part of society?
Even in developed countries, once you have no ties to the countries in the least amount, you are expected to go back to your home country, or you could be deported. Of course this is Nigeria and it is for all Nigerians. But the truth is that, if you are not contributing to the development and economic strength of a state which is not your state, rather living the resources of the state, you should go back to your state.

This would create the room for every state to take responsibility for its citizenry. Lagos is already setting the pace on that, let every other state follow suit. It is a welcome development and it should be encouraged.
PoliticsRe: Akala, Fashola On War Path Over Dumping Of Destitutes by Pataki: 3:15pm On Apr 10, 2009
Kobojunkie:
Shouldn’t we start by asking if a governor, any governor, has a right to DEPORT any citizen, of the same country, to any state? I mean what law allows a state governor to deport anyone, destitute or not, to any state? Any clue what law allows that?
Good question!

I do not think there should be a law for that. In my view, every state have their allocations. Fashola has tried enough by housing these destitutes for a while now. Maybe, this action of his will ignite every state to be more bothered about their indigenes and create some measure of welfare programs for them. It would be illogical for Fashola to use the state resources to care for destitutes from other states when other states can as well create their own social welfare programs.

After all, some states have scholarship programs for their own citizens and if you are not from that state, you do not have any right to partake in it. So I totally reason with the call of Fashola on this one.

Sorry to say this, but you urged him the more with that Yoruba text you sent to him. How can you send a text telling him you know you have offended him, when you have as well stated here you are oblivious to what you did??! Does that make any meaning to you?

When he got that text, it definitely implied to him that you were just throwing up an attitude all the while even when you knew you had done something wrong. If more than anything, you are a Christian, and Christ-like virtues makes you know that; ''Blessed are the peacemaker. . . . . . '' Do what you have to do to restore peace into your home.

Communication is vital to your relationship. At the moment it is not there, and what it simply requires is an apology as he demanded for. When the whole dust has cleared, let him know you were truly disgusted and annoyed with his actions all the while.

As much as possible, I try to keep away from affairs between couples. They understand each other better. Why would a man, want to treat his woman in this manner? undecided There has to be some missing connections with this story to warrant his actions to you. Or unless he is just doing it to boost his ego and affirm who is the man of the house.

That said, would your indifference and defiance to his demands make things better? Probably. But definitely at the moment, you are not happy. What counts the most is your happiness. If you are not getting it right now, do what you have to do, to regain it once more. I tell you, there are better times to get back at him. All this talk that you are a Black American Woman would not solve the matter. He is as well a Black African Man! Y'all have your differences, but someone must be willing to step-down for another. If he was on the forum as well, I do tell him the same thing as I have typed here.

I want to say a merry christmas and a happy new year).

Tatase:
Danny Gokey is ok, but unfortunately he's been slipping the past few weeks (like Lil Rounds). He's definitely no longer as good as he was and certainly not as good as he thinks he is.

My faves from this week were definitely Adam and Allison (who I'm supporting for this season). I also thought Chris and Matt were pretty good, they both project a chill Jason Mraz-ish vibe, but in different ways.

The right person sha went home this week.
KikiDixy:
Danny Gokey is an okay singer, I like him too. Both he and Adam have been hyped from Day 1, the difference between the 2 is that Adam is living up to the hype while Danny Gokey clearly isnt.

And yes, the right person went home last night. Scott's story is inspirational and all that but he wasnt so good
Danny is not just an OK singer, he is a very good singer. Note that it is only him and Adam who are yet to be in the bottom three. They both have maintained a consistency with the show this year, and the judges would never fail to use their voting right to bring them back should they mistakenly fall into the bottom three.

That said, I am of the conviction that the best of Danny has not yet been truly displayed. He is saving his best for the last. I have always believed in him right from the inception and I find his story and background interesting. Another factor for me liking him is based on the fact that he is also a Choir director, hence he tends to sing songs with some level of inspiration in it.

Adam was simply exceptional this week. He totally made me breathless and speechless. Saving the best for the last. Lil Rounds has been going on the decline for the past three weeks now. What is happening to her?? She needs to get her act together seriously.

I am as well impressed within two weeks in a row, American Idol have voted out the right set of people. Megan had started getting ahead of herself, thinking she had huge amount of fans when she has not created a niche as a singer for herself. Scott on the other hand, has his own brand and swagger, but his appeal does not cut across to the present generation in America. Yes, he has an inspirational story and background, but Americans cannot forever continue to keep him there based on his circumstances. I also feel that he was becoming more of a burden on America Idol (Just my perception though).

For the top three, my intuition lies with: Danny, Adam and Alison.

PoliticsRe: When Did Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala Become A Professor? by Pataki: 5:23pm On Apr 09, 2009
@ RichyBlack,

Actually in a way, tpia employed the socratic method. The style she used was to engage you in a conversation of denial to what you stated or the questions you asked. In so doing, she claimed or acted no knowledge to the bane of the subject matter, which in a way was to ensure that you instead provide answers that address the very specific questions raised on this thread. If satisfactory answers are not proffered to her taste, the conversation becomes stuck in what seemingly appears to be an unanswerable question. This method is the Classic Socratic Method.

However, where she failed was when she left that line of method and began the tirade of insults. As the ultimate goal of the method is to increase understanding through inquiry.

Here is a basic definition to the Classic Socratic Method:

The Classic Socratic Method uses creative questioning to dismantle and discard ideas that inhibit a person from thinking through a primary question. This deconstructive style of the Socratic Method is ‘Socratic’ precisely to the extent that the weight of the actual deconstruction of ideas rests in the respondent’s own answers. The result of the Classic Socratic Method is, by definition, a failure to find a satisfactory answer to the primary question in a conversation. This failure produces a ‘Socratic Effect’ which can, it is hoped, inspire a person to dig deep and think about the question with an energetic new freedom that is obtained from discarding a previously held belief. If a satisfactory answer is found, this represents a transition to the ‘Modern Socratic Method.’

Would the same be said of Islam? Christian values allow for democracy. That is a well established fact. Would your sharia law place room for democracy or for people to start pushing for their rights??
