For a family of 4 I spend close to 200k monthly on just feeding, we can no longer buy food stuffs the house because even if u take like 150k to buy food stuffs, u won't see anything.

I started womanizing to help me overcome my addiction of Betting.

Before you pick a brand name, you should conduct a search in the relevant class at teh Trade marks registry and also at the corporate affairs commission for good measure.
this is why legal advice is needed in business, it can help you avoid some pitfalls. societ y is about trying to ballance the many wants and desires of people hence structures are put in place arounf most spheres of life.

While i hear your point, i disagree with the opinoin that existing words should not be trademarked. i do not believe it is a practical solution.

So long as the rules apply to everybody in the same manner then there is fairness.

Pre existing words can be "trademarked" trademark laws across the world allow it. However trademakrs are registered in classes (1-45). Each class has a class heading which describes the nature of goods/services that can be registered in that class (Google Nice classification of trademarks) . However the trade mark must be distinctive of the class i.e. it must not describe the nature and character of the goods or services in that class. For instance I cannot trade mark butterly, in a class that covers butter and dairy goods.

The intellectual property space is quite nuanced and there are rules.

In addition trade marks are territorial by nature. If I register a trade mark in Nigeria it applies to Ngeria only, I cannot extend protection to another country except I register in that country.


However passing off is a remedy U can still explore for protecting unregistered trade marks but you have have to show evidence of recognition in the jurisdiction in question among other things. If the service offered by PayPal is allowed for use in a country where zap is registered, then the owner of zap Africa can potentially use to prevent use in that jurisdiction alone.

Still no guarantees of victory cos there is a lot that will go on in court

No tenant is entitled to stay in a house for free.

Ideally to evict a tenant you have to take him to court. In court you can claim money for any damage casued and any period the tenant has stayed without paying rent even if its just one month.

The reason a lot of Landlord's dont bother chasing after that money is because sometimes the cost/effort outweighs the benefit.

Get a good lawyer and explore your options.

I repeat there is no law that allows a tenant to stay in a house without paying rent in any circumstance.

The 6 months notice the tenant is entitled to is where the Landlord wants to issue a notice of termination before the expiration of the current term of the tenancy and a smart Landlord will issue the notice early enough so it expires at the end of the term of the tenancy. Where the notice expires after the tenant is still to pay for every day he/she occupied the premises without paying rent.

What's the best option for such a tenant who is threatened you the house owner that he is free to stay for another period of 6 month after his rent expiration, claiming he is yet to find another house to move to. according to Nigeria law.

He has stayed for free for three months already.
