It's always better to seek clarification before misinterpreting another here...

VDB is one of the best players that has come out from the Dutch league in recent times...Seeing how his time here has panned out, would you as an agent or brother of a young player advise your client or sibling to join United?

The Dutch league especially the Ajax youth set up is one of the biggest talent factories in the world and trust me, they'd take into consideration how their seniors have fared in other top teams when making a decision...It's not about Ole but United here...

You guys think every post from a supposed Oleouters is targeted at Ole even when it isn't the case. Sometimes, it's you guys stereotyping people because of their position in a different subject...

Performance in knockouts carry more weight than Performance in groups

You have heard people say Messi did not score a goal in knockout just group stage, have you have anyone being criticized for not scoring in groups just knockouts?
If someone doesn't score in the group stage, how will the team progress?

Will the critics even have the opportunity to make such comments if Barcelona get dumped out in the group stage? No...It therefore means that those who do the job in the group stage, 2nd round and quarters are just as important.

It’s also on record that Lampard spoke with Werner, Ziyech and Havertz to convince them to join Chelsea. But even before Lampard was sacked, news came out that he never wanted them but they were forced on him while the Declan rice he wanted was never given to him.
Has they been any contrary story regarding VDB?

Until then, he is an Ole buy...

I don't want to go back to what was said when VDB was signed. Then, a section of the fan base here suggested Ole didn't have a transfer list but when VDB was signed, Ole fans here used his signing to drag those who said Ole didn't have a list. That's the point where we got to know Ole spoke with VDB to convince him to join us.

How do you know Ole recommended that VDB be signed? He told you on WhatsApp? For all we know, one of the Glazers might have just liked him and decided to buy him the way some club owners like to do. Infact, all the signs point to the fact that Ole might not have wanted VDB.
It's on record that Ole spoke with him to convince him to join us...

You just keep typing long sentences up and down with little substance. Performance in the knockout stage will always outweighs that of the group stages. United crashing out of the group stage is like I said a failure and a poor example to use.

I called out your example of using United failure to leave the group stage. I don't know where you are adding things from.
United is a practical example...If United had made it out of the group stage with Rashford scoring goals and then get past the 2nd round and quarters with Rashford again delivering the goods, will you now say Martial was the most important player for Man Utd if he scores in the semis and final?

My point is that you can't undermine the performance of a player in the group stage, 2nd round and quarters because you think they're not crucial...If they're not crucial, will you make it to the next round in you fail in any of those stages?

Abeg who fit help me explain to this bros? I am tired abeg.

You are just beating around the bush with many words. The group stage is a formality for all top teams in major competition. Germany/Spain/Madrid/Barca getting knocked out in the group stage is a failure similarly no one will praised them for leaving the group stage. Performances in the knockout stages of any competition is the koko.
So failure in the group stage is tied to the whole team but success in the semis and finals should be tied to a particular player...E be things...

What a terrible example. All big teams are expected to come out of the group stage. The knock stage is where the main competition starts. Your team dropping out of the group stage shows failure.
You're very funny...If someone doesn't score the goals or prevent the goals from going in, how do you make it out of the group stage? Please put your thinking cap on before you quote me...

How do you praise a player for his performance in the semis and finals forgetting the competition started with the group stage then the 2nd round and then the quarters...

It's like praising player A for his performance in the semi and finals of a competition and saying his team mate, player B was rubbish because he didn't supply the goods in the 'crucial' games (semi and final) even when he scored in the group stage games to help the team progress and not stopping, did same in the 2nd round and quarters...Are you just going to discard the performance of player B because according to your failed logic the group stage, 2nd round and quarters are not crucial?

The group stage, 2nd round and quarters were not crucial right?

Manchester United are out of the UCL because people didn't do their job in the group stage. If we had progress, someone will come here are say the 2nd r8und is crucial...Who defines which match is crucial and using what metric?

I know you asked this as a rhetorical question, or to push your normal agenda but I'm going to look past that.

We actually need all-round tactics, not in attack alone. Afterall, this same defence was among those who conceded the least number of goals last season. A lot of the goals we have conceded this season are due to player errors - panic, lack of positional discipline, or just plain brainfarts. The way the team is set up also caused some goals.

The coaches should do their best to reduce those player errors. Let the players learn their weakness and play to their strengths. For instance, Fred caused us at least 2 goals last season by being dispossessed easily whenever he gets the ball near his goal. We haven't had such incidence this season. The players won't pass to him if they see an opposition player close to him in a dangerous area, and whenever they pass to him, there's always someone available who he can easily give a one-touch pass to.

The players need to minimize their errors and the coach needs to do more.
When you talked about Ole tactics in relation to our attack, tell you were not up to something...

The truth is captured in your second paragraph, we need to improve our defending for our attacking output to make any sense come May...

The defenders need to raise their game and whoever is responsible for our defensive organization has to find a way to make us more compact at the back...

8f we mange to sort out the defense whilst maintaining our attacking flair, we stand a chance to end up with a trophy...

This does not mean that United has scored 79 goals this season. It only means that the games Man United played in have recorded 79 goals (49 for 30 against). For e.g the 3-3 draw against Everton had 6 goals.

It's as if we will be rewarded differently for having the best attack...

Judge the team as our position come May will be decided by how well we play in defense, midfield and attack collectively and not whether we had the best defense or worst attack or vice versa...

I remember when Pep joined City and he was criticized for his penchant to attack whilst paying less attention to his defense...He has now adjusted his tactics to ensure he does not leave his defense exposed...Ole should figure out how to make us more compact at the back whilst still retaining our attacking flair...

From most of the opinions here, it is obvious we all recognize the issues with VDB...I expect the coaching staff to work with him closely...

He should make himself available for the simple pass and be more adventurous with the ball...

Asking that the coaches work with him isn't an attack on Ole as some folks will think...

Not everything can be taught. VDB simply cannot play defence splitting passes and we need our AM to be able to play defence splitting passes.

It will take time to change his positional play and he should be the one to focus on training to be better

It’s on VDB to make sure he comes good, not on the club. If he doesn’t come good, he will be promptly sold. This is Manchester United, not Ajax or Dortmund where improving young footballers is the main goal.

You are one of those who are not patient with the coach and you want him to win trophies immediately. How can he win trophies with a player like VDB who doesn’t even posses the qualities we need from a player that plays in his position?

How many clubs have ever won titles with players who are still being taught how to play in their position?

If VDB wants to be a big part of the team, then he should hit the training ground and train hard. It’s on him to improve himself. I am sure he knows what the coach wants from him and I am sure he knows he is not doing what the coach wants him to do.

I am not saying VDB will not come good. I think he will get better over time. But there is no space for him in the first team now.
So you recognize it's Manchester United abi? Good to know...

As per the bolded, it was Ole that recommended that VDB be signed not me so what did he see in VDB to have ask the board to sign him?

Well, Bruno wasn't highly rated as a wonder boy like those Ajax boys. He was below the radar with minimal hype and most of the big clubs didn't rate him that much the way they will rate the likes of VDB or De jong as per the he's not a flashy kind of player. Even Totenham dey price am like garri with Sporting Lisbon then and wanted to take him on loan with option to buy, just to show you that they didn't rate him that much. Even us as a club wasn't that serious about him. It only took us to have our season turning into shit before we decided to take a risky on him, which paid off.
Madrid didn't notice nothing...We just swooped in and signed VDB...

Any player we sign that is struggling, you guys try to downplay their ability but if he joined City and was blossoming, it would have been Ed getting the stick now...

See how easy it is for you to rubbish VDB who's not been here for up to a year but you will find all the excuses in the world for Ole...

It will take time cos you can't correct a habit of 10years in 5 months, and i don't think he himself trusts is own long passing ability. His fast interplay is nice but he needs to mix it up and hold the ball land make defence splitting passes as well.

Lol, I now see why Madrid didn't go far VDB when they wanted to buy him before. He's definitely a false AM. I mean since I've been watching most renowned AM in the world since the day I've been watching this game, I've never seen anyone play that role in that manner that VDB wants to play the role. It's total bullshit.

Even Bruno makes runs for passes sometimes too, but he doesn't stay up front and make runs all day expecting passes. He knows he has to drop to collect ball and make things happen for his front three

I also now see the reason why the Netherlands coaches often opt to play Wijnaldum as the AM instead of VDB in most of their serious games.
So, why didn't Madrid go for Bruno? And all the other good players?

He should not be waiting for those vertical passes all the time. After all somehow the ball gets to Bruno from this same McFred and he makes things happen from there. The problem is with VDB IMO. He should spend less time making runs into the box waiting for vertical passes and more time helping to build up play for others and make those vertical passes himself.

As a 10 he should be creating for Cavani, Rashy, Martial NOT expecting McFred to create for him. Bruno and Pogba pick and choose when to make those runs, he should too.

Let us even forget the lack of McFred vertical passes for a second. What does he do when he gets the ball? He passes it to the nearest man whether it be Fred, AWB, Maguire or DDG. He does not turn and look to see if Rashy or Cavani are making good runs so HE can make vertical passes for them to score. Do you know how many runs by our forwards he has wasted because he refused to turn and look forward with the ball?

He wants McFred to make vertical passes to him, the same vertical passes he refuses to give Cavani and co. grin
It's the very reason I said the coaches should work with him to improve his play...If me and you can see it, then the coaches too must have noticed it...I don't want to believe he doesn't have it in him to receive the ball from Fred/Matic and look to find our strikers...He might not be as good as Bruno in that regard but definitely should not be that bad...
