If you are a defender in that team, you will lose guard too when you are dragged to places you shouldn't be because people fail to put pressure up the pitch or even track their men. Aside the set pieces, we have seen our defenders in places they shouldn't be because they get dragged around

I still don't get where Telles was in that action such that Maguire was dragged all the way to the LB position...

I implore you to watch Man City vs Sheffield tomorrow. I am certain Sheffield will have their moments but the difference will be that City's defence will most likely sniff out the danger before it becomes obvious. We dominated Sheffield yet they made the most of their chances...Title winning teams have defence that hold their own when the forwards are off...

Are you saying that if we press as a unit the opponents won't have a sight at our goal? Or that our defenders won't be faced with moments when they have to tidy up things?

No matter how well we press, if Maguire and Lindelof don't understand that as a center back, positioning is everything especially when you lack pace, we would have achieved next to nothing...

You underestimate the midfield and attack and the role they play in blocking the channels so that it's easier for the defense to not be all over the place

I have always been vocal about the lack of coordination in our pressing game which affects the way we defend. When our attack press, our midfield will just sit behind behind and watch them and where our midfield pushes up to join the press, the defence maintains a low block which they shouldn't...It's only in a few games that we have gotten it right and most times it's when Bailly starts...

Having said the above, you can't discount the roles of the defenders themselves as no matter how coordinated your press is, the opposition will definitely get past it 2-3 times per game and that's where the coordination of those at the back comes to play. I'm sure you will agree that Man City and Liverpool have the best pressing game however, prior to the signing of Dias and resurgence of Stones, City were conceding at a rate unbecoming of a title contender thus they had to plug that gap by signing a top CB...

In Manchester United's case, most of the goals we have conceded have more to do with school boy errors from our defenders and goal keepers...With such errors, no matter how coordinated your press, you are bound to suffer once the press is bypassed thus our defenders (especially our CBS) have to improve else we will keep conceding at the same rate...

Ole as the coach shouldn't just sit and watch the players approach games like it's a friendly, Greenwood, Rashford, Martial and Co should be doing much better. I am not sure Martial and Rashford had a shot at goal for the entirety of the game and that's unacceptable.
