Ibime: If there was no 2nd amendment and the guy did not have a gun, it would have been a simple Police bust or simple case of Police raiding the wrong property. I disagree vehemently with citizens owning guns. Gun ownership is first of all a feudalistic mechanism in Europe for landowners to keep peasants at bay. 2nd amendment rights was simply created for Cowboys to protect themselves against Indian reprisals after stealing their land. Having dealt with the Indian threat, plantation owners then needed the idea of 2nd amendment to continue to help control and subjugate their slaves. The idea itself is borne out of racism and conquest and is an abhorrent culture in a society where crime rates are low. Where you have high crime rate like in Nigeria, you may keep a gun at home for safety but it is not a right, and definitely not an open-carry right like in some US states. Once crime rate goes down you abolish any right for citizens to own guns. Your point is spot on. |

donjazet: Succinctly put. It is very funny in this era, the 21st century, seeing people who still think information can still be limited by distance and time.
All I see nihilist doing is trying to foolishly showoff, everybody here knows he likes to do that. People who are supporting him on this issue might be having mild inferiority complex and not know it.
It is not everybody that is living abroad that is an intellect. The truth is that sometimes and most times, the information we read online isn't a factual account of an event. I have been witness to several events and when the news breaks online, I get to read a completely different narrative as the reporter sometimes overcook or undercooked the stories. I also agree with you when you say it's possible to be more informed in a subject thousand of miles away. In all, unless you personally have an experience, the report or stories you read via the internet (you) or hear from someone (Nihi) is dependent on their position on the matter, it is seldom factual. |

No more middlemen shenanigans.
Itakpe - Warri railline reconstruction to take commercial train has been completed and waiting for commissioning. Funny enough, the project will be named after Goodluck Jonathan. For instance, if we have just N1m in Nigeria, N650, 000 will be up North and 350,000 down south. The difference is that the 350,000 down south is shared between let's say 100 persons whilst the 650,000 up North is owned by just 10 persons. |

One thing about Northerners is that most aren't flamboyant in their lifestyle. Even the Aboki you see selling suya is making it big.
I will never forget when the aboki selling suya close to a friend's place (relatively cool street) slumped, when guys got his ATM and went to withdraw some cash so he can be attended to, they saw over 400k in his account. Guys were shocked, the wretched looking aboki with over 400k? Some guys started doing self appraisal on the spot.
Those who argue that the wealth distribution isn't even aren't wrong but in terms of wealth irrespective of the distribution, those guys are on another level. |

chic2pimp: At this very moment 15 years ago, I was struggling to sleep. The events that unfolded over the previous 3- 4 hours had left me all but numb. I was fuming, bitter, Angry and frustrated. Every and Any negative emotion you can think of, that was pretty much Me.
I vividly remember trying to get some sleep as I had my Maths mocks the following day but sleep was not forthcoming. There were 3 or so Topics I was meant to briefly go over but I simply could not concentrate. I mean how could I after what I had just seen? 3 up goals looking like we've reached the promise land only to have it taken from in the most cruelest of fashion. Snapping defeat from the jaws of victory. To say I was devastated would be putting it likely.
Til this Day, I still can not or should I say simply refuse to forgive Carlo for that evening's event and that is saying a lot as Ancelloti is my favourite coach of all time. How He and the Boyz managed to throw away a 3 goal lead, I'll never know. I am still fuming
Every channel in the Land it seemed had documentaries dedicated to the Miracle of Istanbul so I had no other choice but to avoid all forms of Media for the 2 weeks that followed. No TV, no radio,no Newspaper bulletins. Heck no phone calls or text messages too. I completely shut myself off from the outside world.
I am yet the watch the game in it's entirety to this day infact it took me years to summon the courage to watch extended highlights of the game. How we lost, I'd never know. Apart from the 15 minute period where Liverpool staged their amazing comeback, we were the dominant team. We should won it during normal time and moreso in extra time. The gods it seems were against us.
I prayed and hoped in vain i'd wake up the following morning and it would have been just a dream. It wasn't, it was real. I woke up the next morning feeling even more bitter than I remembered feeling the previous night. I guess the magnitude of the event that took place the previous day was starting to sink in. The Lads had done the unthinkable and thrown away a nailed on Trophy. It was simply put a ChokeJob
Mere talking about it still stirs a lot of emotions in me even till this day. The phrase "Time is a healer" is only just starting to ring true in my case. I simply could not get over it for a very long time. I am still not fully there but I am slowly but surely getting there.
Wednesday the 25th of May 2005 is a day I will never forget. I couldn't eat nor sleep as I follow Milan in the Serie A. My dad was really concerned. I still can't explain how it happened and not the subsequent win over Liverpool made me feel any better... That Milan team was everything. |

eph12: Why won't it be so? There's a security issue, they have to run to Abuja. The IGP can even refuse to obey the governors if he wants. The governors have to go to Abuja to collect money every time.
Let the states generate their revenue and be in charge of it. They can be sending some percentage to the federal instead of the other way round. You will see how states will sit up and nobody bothers abuja again on major issues. But we're not ready for this talk yet I am all for states to remit a percentage of the revenue they generate to the center and not the centre getting everything and sharing to states wherein a state that isn't contributing or contributing little becomes a leech. When you talk about security in the current structure, I will love to know why then the governors get security votes when the usual excuse is that they don't have any control the security apparatus. Doesn't it sound crazy to you? |

When you ask what they are supposed to do, it make it sound like there's no alternative in such scenario rather than to oblige. |

Nigeria's problem isn't about Buhari or the APC, it's Nigerians. You participate in a survey and because of money, you falsify data and still you blame the government, who is the government?
Your respective state governors collect millions in security votes yet they do nothing with it yet all the blame goes to the centre.
During the campaigns, Nigerians are more interested in what politicians has to offer in cash and other material benefits rather than what he has to offer and how he intends to achieve his plans. Pray tell, do you expect someone to buy a nomination form for over 20m, spend billions consulting the who is who and buying rice, Maggi, tomatoes as well as cash gifts for the masses not to recoup his cash? Even I will seek to recoup my money. It's not rocket science that these things have a corresponding ripple effect on out collective development. Nigerians need to change the criteria we use to evaluate our leaders and that way, rather than cash gifts, we will begin to ask probing questions bordering on what their manifestos is all about, how they intend to achieve them and when...Not what is obtainable now where someone comes up and offers wads of cash to people and when given the mic, begins to make lofty promises that aren't SMART.
Another area of concern is how to unbundled our present political party platforms. Personally, I will prefer independent candidature because before you get the ticket of PDP or APC, you will have to give in to the demands of evils men.
Regarding the present administration, I will say I am really disappointed in PMB, I genuinely had high hopes when he was elected in 2015 but as at 2019, it was as clear as daylight that he didn't have it in him to deliver the change he promised and that's why I opted for Sowore.
In spite of my general assessment of the present administration, I still score them well above average in some indicators and that's why I love to read from Larride. He is informed about what is happening and even though I really don't agree with all his points, I appreciate the time he takes out to provide useful information here and I encourage others to go about disagreement with him in a rational manner.
In all, we are still a long way off dreamland as religion and ethnicity remains veritable tools in the hands of our oppressors. |
