raumdeuter:Fergie was up against a Liverpool, Arsenal and Chelsea team who were consistently in the quarters/semis of the UCL...During Ferguson's time, Fulham at one point reached the UEFA cup final, Boro also did... |
Spy360:The one reason why I think Ferguson is the greatest manager is the fact that he coached teams who reached the peak of their powers, faded out and from the scratch he rebuilt again and took them to the peak. You wonder why Pep, Mou and Klopp don't continue on their job after winning the UCL? They know how difficult it is to maintain that level especially when the key cog of the team is past it. Look at Zidane at Madrid, after the Era of dominance, he is struggling with almost the same team he used to win the UCL 3 times in a row because Ronaldo isn't there and the rest are aging fast. Fergie oversaw different greats sides over the course of his reign, something I don't see Pep, Mou or any of the other modern coaches doing. |
raumdeuter:To win an argument, you are now saying the EPL has top 6 teams and top 5 teams playing at a high level but when folks here use this line in their defense of the competitiveness of the league, you'll still be the one who will ask when last Arsenal, Tottenham, Manchester United and Liverpool won the league...One day, you'll run out of strength to turn amala... |

Wow!!! What a point you have made, I must have struck you below the belt for you to raise the white flag... |
snrman:All of a sudden you guys are attaching value to the Caraboa cup just to hype a failed project in Europe...If Manchester City were okay with domestic titles then Mancini and Pellegrini would have still been at the Etihad... You just dey put mouth for where you no understand how far, when Pep came, he didn't win the league in his first season, Conte won it but to undermine his achievement, the EPL was tagged a local league, fast forward to today, you lots want us to give Pep props for winning the EPL? the FA Cup? Lol Never, all men will be judged in Europe and as far as the season goes, Poch and Klopp are in with a better chance to wear the crown of best coach in Europe... |
Ibime:Sky Sports reported that he made over 34 appearances this season, how will a second choice LB play that much games? |
If only Nigerians will learn that charity begins at home, imagine holding your governors accountable for once, it will make a whole lot of difference but no, we are more concerned with Buhari. The funny thing is that even with this money, the rogue governors won't clear backlog of salaries and pension arrears... |
GloryIsaac:Was it ever about Ole vs Poch? I was just keen to let eph know that the change of formation and tactics played a role in the comeback win of Spurs. |
Eruditor:Sorry I had to reread your post, I thought you said 'in style'...Having said that, you're not a master of the English language so, rather than be quick to claim superiority of diction or understanding, a simple correction will do...No be all of us dey here for insults. |
larride:Lol I saw it...We must hang that L for him neck. |
Larride, don't provide him with armor, agreed all teams spent but for us here, they spent to win the UCL, the only international trophy and so far, only Spurs and Liverpool are in with a 50% chance of winning it, the rest of us have failed cos local trophies are especially reserved for the likes of Ranieri and Conte... |
ChristoBam:Thank you... |
GloryIsaac:So Barcelona players didn't know what was at stake? Bayern didn't know what was at stake against Liverpool? No be everything we get argue... |
Eruditor:The style could only beat his closest challenger by a point. In 2004, Arsenal won the league in style as did Porto and Juventus in the Portuguese and Italian leagues thereafter and if you look back a couple of seasons, you'd look at Barcelona of last season and this season, heck, you can say City won the league in style last season but not so much this season where it went all the way to the wire. |
raumdeuter:With City and the money spent, UCL is the holy grail... |
Eruditor:You have a way of making things look a lot better than they are, winning a league with a point difference is indeed stylish... You've been around long enough to know why I asked Raumdeuter that question but if your memory fails you, I'd gladly help. When Conte won the league in his and Pep's first attempt, Raumdeuter was quick to rubbish the achievement of Conte by saying the EPL and every other league trophy is a local trophy with only the UCL of value, fast forward 3 years after, you want to rub it in our faces that Pep is the best thing after slice bread even when by the standard of the one who sets the rule, Raumdeuter, he has so far failed woefully. Las las this L go remain for ground, e no fit enter our neck. |
Unlimited22:All this long talk will help him wriggle his way out, let him just answer yes or no and we're good. |
raumdeuter:Is the EPL trophy still a local trophy for small coaches? |
eph12:I'm very sure Pochettino would say he wanted to bypass the midfield of Ajax by introducing Llorente, he will also claim he needed by better player on the ball in midfield who could cope with the constant pressing from Ajax and that's why he took off Wanyama and deployed Erikson there... If you noticed in that game, Son stated out on the right but in the second half, he switched to the left where he became a constant threat thus Ziyech had to be more defensively conscious and Moura was operating off shoulders of Llorente that for me is tactics on display unless we're just going to throw everything we saw with our eyes wide open under the bus and tow the way of Erikson because he played the match. |
eph12:Taking off Wanyama and bringing on Llorente was a change of formation, playing long balls as against trying to play through a congested midfield was a tactical switch, it helped them bypass that solid Ajax midfield. |
eph12:I wouldn't mind a short term fix as Garner should be ready in the next couple of years. |
eph12:At this point, we have to try and get Rabiot on a free if not then a huge chunk of our budget will give way for Herrera's replacement. I don't trust Fred and Pereira to do the job at this point. |
Same VDS that has come out to say De Ligt is heading to Spain or England...So much for wanting Ajax to be great. Truth is that Ajax is a selling club and VDS knows what's up, it's we who are not making the most of our connect with him. That guy is still in touch with Ferdinand, Neville and a host of people in our club, if he was a Barcelona legend, Barcelona would've used the likes of Xavi, Abidal, Pique etc to trouble his life each time they want a player from Ajax. |
My EPL team of the season... Goalkeeper: Alisson Signed from Roma in the wake of Karius disastrous showing the UCL final last season, Alisson has proven to be a safe pair of hands bar some school boy errors he committed earlier in the season which can be heaped on overconfidence. He has proven to be the difference when it mattered most especially his contribution against Barcelona in the comeback win. Right back: Trent Alexander Arnold Three words describes this young English man, Young, Dependable and Exciting...Just over a year ago, Walker and Trippier were the best in the league and TAA didn't really get a look in perhaps for his inexperience but a year on and he has proven to be a very good outlet for Liverpool down the right, his stand out performance was against Barcelona where he chipped in with 2 assist, one being the assist for the winning goal...He looks like one for the future but his performances tells me the future is now. As a Manchester United fan, I'll trade Young, Smalling, Jones, Bailly and Rojo to get him. Right Center back: Toby Alderweireld Toby is the perfect example of the guy who does the job away from the camera, he has been rock solid everytime I have seen him play, a very consistent CB who covers a lot for Trippier when he goes rampaging forward, not a popular choice but for me, he is right up there with the Van Dijk's, Pique's and Chiellini's of the world... Left Center back: Virgil Van Dijk PFA player of the year, Van Dijk has been nothing short of immense since joining Liverpool, he has brought leadership and stability where none existed prior to his arrival. If Liverpool goes on the win the UCL or league, he'd be on the Balon D'or podium unless of course, UEFA happens...Currently, he is the best CB in the world and if you think otherwise, then you must be a visitor here and should probably be sent back to Mars before the done of dusk... Left Back: Robertson No other player represents the ghen ghen footballing philosophy of the master himself, Jurgen Klopp than Robertson...He never stops running, in one second, he is delivering an exquisite ball to the head of Mane and in the next couple of Seconds, he is in with a last ditch sliding tackle to prevent an obvious goal scoring chance, he reminds me of Alba a couple of years ago...He is everything I wish Luke Shaw is and to imagine Luke Shaw won the Manchester United player of the season, how the great ls have fallen... Defensive Midfielder: Fernandinho Mr. Reliable, that he is the most important player in an otherwise star studded City teams tells you everything you need to know, a player who's never afraid to stick a foot in, he shields the City back so well that in his absence, Manchester City look a totally different team... Center midfielder: Christian Erikson If there's one player that almost always picks the right pass, that player has got to be Erikson (De Bruyne is another but he's had an injury ravaged season)...The exact opposite of Pogba who labors on the balls, prioritize fancy flicks and tricks over simple passes, Erikson is every coaches dream, here, he just about edges David Silva who has also had a stellar campaign...If my formation supported a 3 man midfield then Silva would've been the 3rd man. Right winger: Raheem Sterling A year on from whence an Arsenal fan on Twitter said he had more Children than goals, Sterling has raised the bar, he has had a fantastic season and were it not for the form of VVD, he'd have easily won the PFA player of the year as against the PFA young player of the year he was compensated with, you can't argue with the fact that he now has more goals than Children and it looks certain to stay that way going forward... On a personal note, I think if City wins the league and FA cup added with the Caraboa cup which is already in their kitty, he stands a better chance of making the Balon D'or podium especially as Ronaldo only has the Serie A title to show for his efforts, Neymar/Mbappe, the French Ligue 1 and Suarez has LA Liga and possibly Copa Del Rey. Were it not for VAR, it'd have been a possible clean sweep for him, most improved player in the world... Right Center Forward: Mo Salah The great Egyptian is up to it again, he has once again proven beyond measure that he is no one season wonder...He went through a rough patch that had his doubters pick up the mic in a rush to say "I told you so" but it didn't weigh him down instead, like the Phoenix, he rose up in grand style tearing past defenses and scoring goals for fun and from every distance, Chelsea fans and Kepa will not forget the ballistic missile of a shot scored during their encounter at Anfield...If you must hold a conversation about elite players, never forget the name of a certain Egyptian, King Mohammed Salah. Left Center Forward: Sergio Kun Aguero The Argentine bulldozer has proven time after time what a deadly finisher he is, your typical fox in the box, Aguero is a handful to deal with...He has contributed his quota to City's course in no small measure with his 20 premier goal second only to Salah. Best striker in the league and world. Left winger: Mane The Mane called Sadio is the definition of stamina. This season has seen him add goals to his game which was the only lacking ingredient last season. He is a pack of energy, pace and power, his role in the destruction of the Bavarians at the Allianz Arena will not be forgotten anytime soon. When I watch him play, I see determination, a trait that's clearly lacking in Martial and all the other money mongers at United...He is a firm believer of Klopp philosophy, ghen ghen pressing... Coach: Master Jurgen Klopp I've not got much to say about the gaffer, 2 Consecutive UCL final is a testament to his methods...The slayer of tiki taka, the master of ghen ghen pressing, Klopp is the best coach in the world, better than Pep, Sarri, Emery, Valverde, Allegri and Kovac put together... Subs: Ederson, Laporte, Gueye, Shaw, Silva, Sane, Pogba, Firmino... |
Ikennablue:Under a coach in mould of Pep, this team would go on to dominate any opposition and win trophies but under EV, this team will falter, I don't see him starting this team sef |
GloryIsaac:We are really not making the most of VDS position as CEO of Ajax... |
PietroRick:Just like that? He is still young oh! |
GloryIsaac:What does it take to change agent? I'll think most of his clients will opt out of any deal with him. |
afrodoc2: Koulibaly will have De Laurentiis asking us to break the bank, Varane looks settled back in Madrid with the reappointment of Zidane, De Ligt is another one but his stock is so high that I can't possibly see how we get him over our rivals. We really need that defense and Midfield sorted out even more than the RW and CF position. |
Leyqute:Ed. wants a rookie in that position, something tells me he doesn't want to relinquish any of his control in the running of the club. |
afrodoc2:I thought he has since recovered but lost his place to Lenglet? |
Umtiti will likely be available and much cheaper but Ed won't look his way. |
