Electronic tutor, DVDs, ebooks are good but the best is practice. No matter what you read make sure you put it to practice, give yourself a project. why begin with JAVA, i will advice you to start with Microsoft .NET (VB.NET or C#) especially VB.NET cos its good for a beginner. use www.4shared.com and www.asp.net to download books and videos as well

Reading and practing are totally different things. so give yourself a task demanding project and do it, burn the midnight candle. be focused many novice programmers confuse theirselves with many programming languages, tools and database, Start with one and progress with others. e.g in programing i chose VB.NET (i don't use C# or java but i know the syntax), in database i started with access, sql server and now oracle. Also have a mentor or better still join a company so you can now whats on board cos the IT world is constantly changing, hope you use this two sites www.asp.net and www.4shared.com for videos and ebooks. I known much about PLC but from my research there is no training for PLC, SCADA, DCS in the country.
