A graduate of accountancy (with a 2.1 I suppose), why not work for awhile and register for your ICAN, then after 2 or 3 years register for masters? By the time you finish your master (if you choose to do it now) you might not get a commensurate job because you don't have experience. I know someone who has B.Sc. & M.Sc. But she's using only B.Sc for the same reason I gave you above. signed: www.paulipopor..com |

funkyjms: "Pilot" and "pathfinder"Pilot questions are samples of questions that are likely to be asked. They're usually released everytime there's a change in syllabus. I think it's so that candidates can be familiar with the format, style etc. Pathfinders are past questions with suggested solution. |

May her soul continually RIP. Somehow I still believe humans are not totally helpless. @Op you should consider writing as a career...you're good! |
Toshibasexy: I've been willing 2 be a chartered accountant since my secondary school days but it seems the dream is going down the drain cos i had an N.D in accountancy nd proceeded to university but i was given human kinetics education in which i'm still in 200lvl now in unilorin but i don't know if i can still apply for ICAN or ACCA when i'm through? You can still apply for ICAN after your degree program. Besides, if you've the "strength", you may wish to start right away with your ND result. Visit www.icanig.org to download the syllabus and other enquiries. |

At this period of your preparation for the November 2013 diet, you should focus more on the short answers and Obj. Don't stress yourself too much. You can't finish the syllabus now if you've not done so earlier. Get enough rest. I think you've prepared enough! You can print your dockets out tomorrow afternoon. Wish you all the best. Cheers!!! Alf_redd: Easier?? Pray tell how? I'm really struggling.PE1 = FA/MA/AAA/IT PE2 = FRE/SFM/PSA/ATAX If you wrote your PE1 and passed FA&MA, you're more than 40% done with FRE/SFM! What is left? PSA/ATAX? Are you still asking? |

zonaking: Nice 1 bros! The only idea that marvels me here is " you don't believe that there are no jobs but hw to find the available Jobs is the the problem" I think am the only person with such Idea! Thanks man. You're not alone. |
Dehley: I want you understand this fact, you can't gain entrance into most of these well-structured coys to submit your CV unless you are being invited by an insider. The company's security men have a way of knowing the visitors who are geniuely invited, its either you take or leave it.I understand totally what you're saying. If you read my thoughts thoroughly you'll note that the idea is to do things differently. Do it your own way, away from the "normal" way of doing it. Towards the last paragraphs I said you could start communicating with an insider. You can get to meet an insider on LinkedIn. |
The next logical step after schooling (or NYSC for Nigerian graduates) is to get a job. This is usually not the case for most job-seekers. Many of them have to wait from between one to ten years before landing a "good" job. Personally for me I don't believe there are no jobs. The challenge most time is how to get the available jobs. The truth is that people get new jobs everyday. People are promoted everyday and the posts they leave behind are still vacant. Businesses are being registered on a daily basis (na spirits dem employ?). After establishing the fact that their are jobs, the next thing is to have a plan and a definite strategy. You must understand that the conventional way of getting a job will not work for everybody. Your chances in the conventional ways are limited because of the population of people looking for the same thing you're looking for. Some even have better qualifications than you. That's why you need to strategize! How to plan and strategize The economy is divided into sectors/industries, these industries are sub-divided into firms. What you studied might not be found in every firm (unlike accounting or IT). So you have to identify the firms that need your skills. Get the details of these firms, their names, location, what they do etc. This information will guide your approach. Prepare a good CV and cover letter. Don't wait for them to ask you for your CV. Don't send soft copy only. These companies receive thousands of CV online daily. Go to the company PHYSICALLY. Don't give your CV and Covet Letter to the "gatemen"/security, not the receptionist not even the HR (in some cases). Try and get it to a top management staff, or a P.A to the MD. You can get to meet a top person who works there on LinkedIn. The idea is to get their attention at all cost. This will land you an invite. The other process of test, series of interviews, etc, you'll also need to be well prepared. I challenge you today, go and make a difference. Get that dream job. Don't reduce your expectations. Shalom! http://paulipopor..com/2013/09/how-to-get-your-dream-job.html?m=1 |

Ema2nty: Hello Paulipopor, I really appreciate ur write up. It's quite motivating and inspiring and it's coming at a time I really need it. Ur write-up suggests that u're very confident of urself and also very focus which is what am trying to develop in myself. I graduated with a very good grade and am currently doing my nysc. I tend to have less confidence in myself and this is making me loose focus and it's affecting my planning. Pls can u offer some advice....I'll truly appreciate it. Thanks in anticipation.Thank you for your compliment. I really appreciate it. To your question, the first thing about being confident is to have a positive attitude to life. This will affect the way you think, act and react to situations. This attitude will change the way you see yourself. You must not under any circumstance believe that you're a nobody, because you're unique. Nobody is better than you. This superior mindset will distinguish you among your peers. For example, I'm an accounting graduate from a Nigeria university. In my mind there shouldn't be anything in accounting that I cannot answer. I should be able to compete with a graduate of accounting from any university in the world. This attitude helps me to prepare myself, it helps me to keep developing myself. It helps me to keep up to the challenges I met and to overcome them. I am preparing to compete as a world brand not just as a local champion. Sometimes ago here on Nairaland, a lady was bragging about living in diaspora and that if they (in diaspora) decide to return to Nigeria we will all loose our jobs! The bitter truth is; she's right! How many Nigerian graduates are ready to challenge and can compete with a foreign graduate? You know why? They have excuses! The government is bad, the lectures are wicked, there's no "NEPA", ASUU is on strike, the roads are bad (how road take concern book!), etc. Sorry but I don't see these excuses as disadvantges. I see them as opportunities. I see them as necessary "evil", I see them as part of the process to achieving my desires. They actually make you stronger and more resilient. This is the attitude that seperate the winners from losers, the rich from the poor (how many rich people do you see complaining?) and the successful from failures. Don't find excuses for your challenges. Face them and overcome them. Try again and again till you overcome. It'll not always be smooth but you can. This is what has kept me focussed. |
I've always thought I was different. I've always wanted a different life for myself. I've always believed I didn't have to go through the conventional path. I never wanted to experience what others experienced. I wanted to have my experiences and my path and my destiny and my purpose. I got to the higher institution after 5years of writing JAMB: 4 UME's & 3 PCE's. Finally graduated exactly 10 years after leaving secondary school. I graduated with honours and as a prize winner and also with the highest professional qualification in my field. I didn't let my background push me to the background. I pushed through many obstacles, inconveniences, discouragement, heartbreaks etc. During my service, I had mapped out the kind of firm I wanted to work in. The first was to work in one of the "big four" and the second the "biggest indigenous" firm. I wrote two (2) tests with the "big four" and got the regret mail. Exactly 10 days after my month of Service, I got employed in the second choice - the "biggest indigenous" firm. I still wasn't satisfied. I wanted the first choice! Few weeks after, I was invited for an interview with the same "big four". I'm still expecting the success mail and I believe it will come before this month ends. I refused to be limited in my thoughts. I refused to believe it's not possible. I refused to believe I had no choice. I refused to believe the country is bad. I refused to believe that only the rich have the opportunities. I refused to believe that I have to wait 2 years after service before I get a job. I refused rejection. I refused failure! I choose my experiences and my path and my destiny and my purpose. I choose the good life. The life that Jesus promised me in his word. I choose success. I am taking what's mine! http://paulipopor..com/2013/09/i-choose-to-be-different.html |
