Politics › Re: Seven Reasons Why Ogbeni Will Win August 9 Polls In Osun. by PaulJohn1: 9:52am On Jul 30, 2014
Tolexander: ile ife has the higher population than ilesha.

the two local goverments in ilesha are JU̶̲̥̅̊$t slightly bigger than ife central alone.
Do a little research and you'll realise Ife is not close to being the second most populated. Remove the Population of the great OAU(of about 30-40k students) and you'll be left with reality.
Why do you think Ilesha was first considered to be the capital of the state during its creation in 1991?

It's simply because of the population advantage Ilesha had then over other towns in Osun. Although Ile-Ife was also considered, but it was solely because of the generally believed myth of the ancient town being the cradle of the Yorubas and also the home of one of the very few Grade one kings we have in the SW.

Both towns were then neglected because they were too extreme in location for a state capital. You'll remember that being located at the centre or close to was a prerequisite under Babagida regime(when the state was created) for selecting capitals. The reason given(by same Babagida) for moving the capital from Lagos to Abuja.

Osogbo was then selected for being the most populous town close to the center of the state, and also because of the already existing high level of commercial activities. It has (till date) a railway station that was used to transport cocoa seeds from Ondo, Ekiti and present Osun East(Ijesha land) to Lagos for exportation. Forget not that Ede is also a big town close to the center, but Osogbo was selected for its higher level of commercial activities.

Osogbo being the capital for 23 years now has gained enough population to beat Ilesha, which is normal for every state capital in Nigeria. Abuja had a population of less than a million when it was made the capital. Abuja of today is around 7m, this is just because it's the capital.

Using the numbers of LGA to determine population. 20LGAs are recognised in Lagos by the FG and 31LGAs for Osun. Does that translate to Osun having a higher population that Lagos?

An insightful writeup.
Iwo , which is the largest town in the
State is predominantly Muslim and
this will also play to Ogbeni ’ s
favour .
Iwo is the largest in landmass, and not in population. Should be the 4th or 5th in population.

Ilesha was know to be the most populated, but presently the capital seems to have taken over.
1 & 2. Osogbo &/or Ilesha.
3. Ile-Ife(undisputed)
4 & 5. Ede &/or Iwo.

May the best man win.

I never knew that program was meant to be a sort of debate, thought the incumbent arranged the question and answer program all for himself. He had all the time to clear up controversies.

PDP’s Omisore, LP’s Akinbade absent at Osun Governorship Election Debate

Ben Ezeamalu - 17 hours ago
Featured News, News

Mr. Omisore had in early July accepted the challenge to debate Governor Rauf Aregbesola. But he did not turn up at Saturday’s radio debate.

=================

The candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party [PDP] in the August 9 governorship election in Osun state, Iyiola Omisore, on Saturday failed to show up at a radio debate organized for the three leading candidates in the election.

Also absent at the debate organized by the International Republican Institute [IRI] was the candidate of the Labour Party [LP] in the election, Fatai Akinbade.

The absence of other leading contenders in the election left the candidate of the All Progressives Congress [APC], Rauf Aregbesola, having all the time allotted for the “Manifesto Hour” programme to himself.

The LP candidate, Mr. Akinbade, sent his running mate to stand in for him but organisers disallowed him from participating, saying the rule was that candidates would not be represented by proxies.

The candidate of the Unity Party of Nigeria [UPN], Ibrahim Adeoti, who was not invited to the debate, however walked into the studio towards the end of the programme, insisting to be allowed to participate. He was allowed time to speak.

Organizers said they were shocked that Messrs Omisore and Akinbade failed to attend the debate.

“We wrote to them and up to 20 minutes to the beginning of the programme, they were still giving us the impression they would be attending,” said Ezenwa Nwagwu, an official of the Partners for Electoral Reform, who moderated the debate on behalf of the IRI.

“We even started the debate 45 minutes late just because we were waiting for the PDP and LP candidates to show up.”

But when contacted, Mr. Omisore said he was not properly invited to the debate.

Speaking through his Director of Media and Strategy, Diran Odeyemi, Mr. Omisore said he did not receive any formal letter inviting him, a claim the organizers rejected.

“It was only this morning that our candidate (Mr. Omisore) received a text message reminding him of the debate and that he was being expected at the OSBC studios,” Mr. Odeyemi told PREMIUM TIMES.

“We did not receive any letter from them. We have a rally today in Ikirun and as I speak to you, we are on our way there.”

But Mr. Nwagwu rejected Mr. Odeyemi’s claim, describing it as “mere political shenanigan”.

“We invited them properly,” Mr. Nwagwu said. “It was not verbal invitations. We wrote them letters and the records are there. If we did not properly invite them, how did the APC candidate attend? How did the LP candidate get to send his running mate?”

The Labour Party however told PREMIUM TIMES its candidate was properly invited to the debate but that he could not attend because he had to be elsewhere.

“In order not to create a vacuum, he sent his running mate but the organizers did not allow him to speak,” said Kayode Oladeji, the spokesperson for Mr. Akinbade, the LP candidate.

“As far as we are concerned, we fulfilled all righteousness. It is the organisers thst should explain why they did not allow our candidate’s running mate to participate.”

In response, Mr. Nwagwu said the rules were clear from the start. “We had made it clear that only candidates, and not their running mates were expected to participate. There was no room for running mates and they all know that.”

You're welcome.
Not that I'm so much into APC, because the personality of few of their leaders is far from impressive. But all their governors in the southern part of the country are way preferable, decent and better administrators than those the ruling party offer we citizens.

An upright man of integrity the state PDP guys intentionally or accidentally(who knows) forced out of the party, for a thug with dented profile. Should have been a real game changer had it been he was the main opposition's flag bearer. It's pathetic that his LP can't make him win his senatorial district, not to mention the state.

@ Bash92, you mean there is no difference between:
The governor said, “Make sure you go to cast your ballots with everything. I am not saying you should go there with guns but the law does not frown against charms, verses from the Quran and psalms of the Bible
And

Osun would march on blood if 'I' fail to win the August 9 governorship poll.”
?

The later is the lie peddled by the PDP.
Bro, please don't let your passionate support for a candidate result to interpreting simple sentences wrongly. You're learned.

You will
recall that Aregbesola had said at
different campaign fora that Osun would
march on blood if he fails to win the
August 9 governorship poll.
”
Any link to a reliable media outlet or better still video where Aregbe said this?! These fellas are just too confused to come up with a reasonable lie. Lying as if their audiences are basic school pupils.

@ topic. That's an unreasonable attempt from Aregbe's supporters if true. But Why Omisore sef no request for more guards from his pals at the ministry of defence and police in Abuja, going to Aregbe's main stronghold to campaign like you're in your hood is insane.

You're right with your Opinion, we Osun west senatorial district, Oyo speaking towns are so much in support of Aregbesola. Especially in my town, we still have a twin town. Don't know if you've ever heard of Ikire, Apomu before, that's two local government. We always vote in one direction and we are voting for Aregbesola. Dr.Peter Babalola and Isiaka Adeleke 'll deliver the whole Osun west for Aregbesola. Omisore 'll jst ave little votes in Osun west and they will both share that of Osun central
I should be around during the election. You forgot to add Ikirun, the Akinrun of Ikirun is a diehard ACN member and No. 1 fan of Aregbe amidst royalties.

Politics › Re: OSUN Guber Election: APC Jittery About CHRIS UBA by PaulJohn1:
Dasini: Am from the same home town with omisore, but no comparison between aregbe and omisore, aregbe stands tall above omisore. Omisore will win ile-Ife, bt e-goats never sit to delibrate on the ijesha zone where aregbe hails from. From the city gate in ilesha, ask an average ijesha man, or beter still okada man, they will tell you aregbe is their man, ijesha zone has the largest voters in the whole osun of state, ilesha, obokun, erin-ijesha, ijebu-jesa, iloko-ijesa, osu. it has abt 8 local govts, and people sit to delibrate on ile-ife with two local govts, don't be deceived osun election will be totally different from ekiti. ife alone cannot give omisore victory. And the truth be told, this man was deputy governor, later became senator for 8yrs, what was his achievement for 12yrs in corridor of power. Am among the few ife sons, that will nt allow being from same place to blind my sense of reasoning. Hav met this man(omisore) before, nt a single bill was passed by him in 8yrs. From is speech alone, you will know this man is nt only empty, bt aside God knows where he got his money from, has got nothing to offer osun state. I say it again, aregbe will floor omisore at the polls.
That's not true. The Oyo people of Osun West are the most populated, followed by the Ijeshas. The Oyos have more populated towns than the Ijeshas. Aside Ilesha, ibokun & Ijebu-Ijesha, other Ijesha towns are spersely populated. Oshogbo, Ede, Iwo, Ikirun, Iragbiji of the Oyo side should be more than the whole of Ijeshas I think.

By my assumption, Aregbe will win. Going by the sentiment (of na my person) you guys are displaying here. Although, the Oyos are more populated, the Ijeshas(Aregbe pals) are together and only have Aregbe as their candidate. Meanwhile, the Oyo people have been neutralised and their towns having different candidates. As for the Ife people(Ile-ife, Ifetedo & surrounding settlements), they are not up to just Ilesha of the Ijesha people in population.

Now to reality, void of sentiment.

-Aregbe's habit of delaying civil servants' salary is a set back for him, he's not likely to have their votes across the state, irrespective of the group(Ijesha workers inclusive).

-Aregbe has the support of the commoners(bikers, taxi drivers, market women, vulcanizers, etc), most expecially that of the NURTW because he seems to be like one of them & and his love for Fuji music, Lol...

-Based on his performance(very impressive), he has reasonable support among the people.

-Ijesha people's sentiment.
Since the creation of Osun(before Aregbe) the Ijeshas have never ruled the state, the Oyos, Ifes, and the people of Ila-Orangun(can't remember the name of their subgroup) have been rotating the leadership, leaving the Ijeshas out. This negligence of the Ijeshas is the main reason
why they are being sentimental and passionate in re-electing their son(Aregbe). They care less about his performance, they are just proud to have an Ijesha man in Bola Ige's house.

I personally prefer Aregbe, mainly because of his performance. Too bad I wasn't in town when the registration was on, means I can't vote. undecided

He wouldn't know if voters of SW no longer regard Tinubu's opinion in electing their governors, because no stats or election is there to prove it. Using Ekiti's election outcome as yardstick is delusional. Not until after next year's election, no certainty.

Osun's(my state) next month election should be a pointer though.

Obokun is not an Ilesha town nor a town at all. Obokun is a local government, and Ibokun is the LGA headquarter. Ilesha and Ibokun are towns, mainly occupied by the Ijesha people of Osun.

Thank God this party hasn't gone into extinction in Osun. Not a fan of an unopposed government.

It's almost certain that the PDP will be presenting iyiola omisore as its flag bearer, others are just 'figure heads' so as not to make it look like omisore is the only one running things in the part(which is good).

It's very likely Aregberascal will triumph, becasue it's still funny how the PDP expect an ex-convict who lost to a newbie in politics whom APC(ACN) presented in his senatorial district in 2011 senatorial election. And again, Osun remains the only state APC is 100% in control. No other party has won any election in the state since 2010, not even presidential election.
Politics › 2014 Guber Ticket: Osun PDP Names 3 Aspirants by PaulJohn1(op): 3:02am On Jan 10, 2014
The Peoples Democratic Party(PDP) in Osun on Wednesday said three persons have indicated their interests to vie for the party’s nomination as its candidate for the state’s governorship race.

The Chairman, Alhaji Gani OlaOluwa disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday in Osogbo.
The party had set Dec 31, 2013 deadline for members interested in the position to pick an Expression of Interest form after paying N5 million.

OlaOluwa gave the names of the aspirants as; Hon Oluwole Oke who hails from Obokun Local Government Area, Sen. Olasunkanmi Akinlabi from Ayedaade Local Government Area and Sen. Iyiola Omisore hails from Ife East Local Government Area.

While Oke was a former member House of Representatives member, Akinlabi was a former Senator and one time Minister.
Omisore was a former Deputy Governor and former Senator.

The PDP chairman said only the trio fulfilled the conditions set by the party for those wishing to aspire for nomination.
He assured the aspirants that the party would give them a “level playground’’.
