Note: Pastor W.F. Kumuyi of the DCLM and Pastor E.O. Adeboye of the Redeemed Christian church of God both came from the Ijesha Yoruba subgroup in Osun, just as Ogbeni. |
OP, seems you weren't attentive enough when Aregbe was raising his prayer requests. His second prayer request was: His performance in the next four years as the governor of Osun(which begins in November) should be equivalent to a work done in twenty years. The third prayer request was for God to give just him the strength of 20men combined, to perform as a governor till 2018. He made reference to Samson in the bible, how powerful he was and prayed to have such or half of that. Pictures below are that of Aregbesola, His deputy; Grace Titilaoye tomori, Osun state overseer of the DEEPER CHRISTIAN LIFE MINISTRY; pastor John Abiola Adeniran and his wife, Mrs Elizabeth Adeniran. Was taken last week when the pastor visited the governor in invitation and preparation for the coming of the General overseer of the DEEPER CHRISTIAN LIFE MINISTRY, Pastor Williams Folorunsho Kumuyi. Can't lay my hands on the shots taken at the state reception the governor gave pastor Kumuyi yesterday, to welcome him to the state, and those taken when the governor and his cabinet visited the DEEPER LIFE CAMPGROUND, Hallelujah estate, Oshogbo today. 'll do as soon as I get them. Ogbeni left the camp around after 10pm yesterday, during the testimony time.

pelvicky: ar u an osun state citizen? Is ur mother/father/relative working as a civil servant?Yes, I'm an Osun citizen and yes I have relatives working as civil servant. |
pelvicky: wat do u have to say on the delay in payment of salaries nd...Was still typing when I mistakenly submitted. Now modified. |
pelvicky: And osun state people will now have their eye cry out.,...make ekiti dey enjoy jare nd osun people to have a thug who does nt pay salary on time,,denied d retitires their entitlement nd merged schoo 2geda as a governor.Quite funny post. The people of Osun never cried their eye out and will never do because of some dirty politics being played by the ruling party for federal appointment that is not merit based. If federal appointment is what you term enjoyment over infrastructure and human development, then it's clear my great people of Osun would rather "suffer" than "enjoy". Fayoshe's act of securing jobs at the federal level for the honorable people of Ekiti is very well commendable, because it's a means of getting the jobless off the street, which those appointed and their relations are all gonna benefit from. On the delay in payment of salaries and denial of the retired's entitlements by the "thug", I believe you're ignorant of the N1b deduction from Osun's monthly allocation by the FG since the beggining of this year. Osun was the least paid state of the federation in the first half of this year, with N19B allocated to the state for the whole six months. Just to put the people against the "thug", but their plot failed just as it failed during Obj's time, who denied Lagos monthly allocation for several months. Here is the chart if you're interested

Not surprised. It's as if of all the famous Nigerian pastors, T.B. Joshua has the largest congregation in Southern Africa. The few southern Africans I've met online are his real followers, they have this impression that the man(TB) is one fella that's so relevant in/to Nigeria Especially those in Zimbabwe & SA. |

shymexx: PaulJohn1, and Superstar1Ijebu-Ijesha is a different Ijebu, they are Ijeshas. I'm not sure if they are of the same sub-group because they both have distinct identity as two different Yoruba sub-groups. The similarities I noticed between the old Ijeshas and the Ijebus are: they are both very educated, ceremonious, can be very aggressive especially when vexed(damn insultive) or when dealing with money, they were also good at trading. The Oyos really suffered from the Ijesha when is comes to yabbing. Go find out what this means; "Oyo amukun meko" ![]() Got to add this, they were both never liked by the Oyo people in the past, but things have changed. |
CFCfan: A Fashola/Okorocha ticket will, in the idealist world, be a 'perfect' ticket. It's a superb combination, they are both vibrant and sellable in a society where majority are literate. But in a complex country like Nigeria, the combination won't fly, you have to consider the idiotic zoning system and all those dirty politics. Perhaps, they'll pass in a country like "Southern Nigeria". |
I can only support these three guys on the list: Fashola, Okorocha or Buhari. The others having nothing special that makes them different from the random "chop-chop" Naija politician. Kwankwaso's flyovers doesn't make him unique. Akpabio and Amosun have built flyovers and are still building, so I see his flyovers contructions as his duties. These three have something that stands them out. Fashola- An excellent administrator and one who is focused. Okorocha- A detrabalised politician. Buhari- An anti-corruption crusader. |
mistudreh: @OP, Ko ni baje fun e.you're welcome. |
There was jubilation at the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile Ife in Osun State as the authorities barred students from Liberia and other West African countries hit by the Ebola virus from returning to the institution for now. The Vice-Chancellor of the university, Prof. Bamitale Omole, who said this at a press conference on Thursday, also announced that the result of the tests carried out on the blood sample of a female student of the university was negative. The student, who took ill in the university was a secondary contact of the Port Harcourt, Rivers State doctor, Iyke Enemuo, who died of the EVD recently. He said, “We have asked some foreign students not to resume. Students from Liberia have been asked not to resume and they have not resumed.” The Vice-Chancellor added that the institution authorites had bought infrared thermometers to measure temperature of students and staff as another measure to make the OAU Ebola free. He also said that an EVS Surveillance and Monitoring unit where suspected cases of the EVD could be reported had been established. Omole said that the female student whose blood sample was tested walked to the university’s Health Centre and volunterred information about her contact with the late doctor. Omole added that he contacted the Minister of Health, Prof. Onyeabuchi Chukwu, after which a special ambulance was sent to evacuate her from the OAU to Lagos. The vice-chancellor said, “Sequel to an earlier release on a female student of the OAU , who was suspected to have been a secondary contact with EVD and who was sent to the Ebola Isolation Centre in Lagos for further clinical and laboratory investigation, the university authorities are happy to announce that the result of the preliminary and confirmatory tests proved negative. “The university authorities therefore wish to inform the university community and the general public that the preliminary results and the confirmatory tests proved negative. “Consequently, this university is EVD free. “Therefore, everyone is enjoined to go about their normal activities freely without fear or panic. However, as prevention is better than cure, members of the university community and the general public are advised to maintain standard hygenic precautionary measures as established by the university Ebola Surveillance Committee.” The vice-chancellor said that the student who was still in Lagos would resume soon and nobody would stigmatise her. The Punch. |

Ilobu, Located along a tributary of the Oshun River, Ilobu is an agricultural trading center for the surrounding region. Products traded include plantains, citrus fruit, yams, cassava, sorghum, beans, okra, peppers, and gourds. Cash crops such as cocoa, cotton, tobacco, palm oil, and palm kernels are collected and sold at Ilobu. Livestock, including dwarf cattle, goats, sheep, chickens, ducks, and guinea fowl, are also an important part of the town’s economy. Weaving and dyeing are the prominent traditional crafts. Ilobu is connected by road to Ogbomosho and Oshogbo. Inisa, city located in southwestern Nigeria, located in Osun state. The city is a trading center for the cocoa produced in the surrounding areas. Inisa lies in the Yoruba cultural region. In the late 1800s it was the only town in southwestern Nigeria not to suffer great losses in population in the struggle among various Yoruba kingdoms to control the area. This was mostly because Inisa was located too far south to be effectively controlled by the emirate at Ilorin, a powerful Fulani-controlled Yoruba city to the north. Subsequently, outposts were set up by the Yoruba of Inisa to curtail the power of the Fulani at Ilorin. Iwo, city in southwestern Nigeria, in Osun State, northeast of Ibadan. It is a center for the production of cacao and traditionally dyed cotton textiles. Iwo became the capital of a Yoruba kingdom in the 17th century and grew rapidly when many refugees from the Yoruba civil wars of the 19th century settled here. |
Ikire, city in southwestern Nigeria, located in Osun State. The city is located on the Oshun River, 32 km (20 mi) east of Ibadan. Economic activities in Ikire include cotton weaving, timber processing, and cocoa and palm oil production. Ikire is also the site of the Asejire Dam development project, which produces hydroelectric power for the surrounding area. The city lies in the Yoruba cultural region. It became an important destination for displaced inhabitants of other Yoruba towns when the Fulani people of northern Nigeria began to expand their empire farther south in the 1800s. Ikire was conquered by the Yoruba kingdom of Ibadan in the late 1800s. Ikirun, town in southwestern Nigeria, in Osun State. Ikirun’s economy is based on agriculture, crafts, and trade. Food crops include yams, cassava, maize, peanuts, pumpkins, beans, and okra. Livestock includes dwarf cattle, goats, sheep, and poultry. Ikirun is both a trading center for food crops as well as a collection point for cash crops such as cotton and tobacco. Grinding stones (stones used for grinding maize, beans, peas, and soup condiments) are also sold here. Ikirun is also a center for weaving, leather work, and pottery. The town is on the rail line extending northward from Lagos and is connected to Oshogbo, Offa, and other cities by highway. Ikirun was founded by Yoruba warriors from the city of Ibadan as a base for military advances against the settlements of their enemies, such as the city of Ilorin. Ila Orangun, city in southwestern Nigeria, located in Osun State. The city is close to both the Lagos and Ibadan metropolitan areas and is connected by road to both cities. Agricultural products include cocoa and cassava. The Ila Orangun area is also known for its cloth weaving and wood sculpting. Ila Orangun is located in the Yoruba cultural region. According to Yoruba mythology, Ila Orangun was settled by a son of Oduduwa, the king of Ile-Ife (a city to the south of Ila Orangun). Problems within the Ile-Ife kingdom forced the sons of the king to scatter and establish their own kingdoms. Ila Orangun remained an independent kingdom within Yoruba territory until the British colonized Nigeria in the 1800s. Ilesa, also known as Ilesha, city in southwestern Nigeria, in Osun State. It is a commercial and processing center in a region in which cacoa, palm products, and yams are grown and gold is mined. Ilesa is one of the oldest Yoruba towns, founded in about 1600. It is the capital of the Ijesu people, a subgroup of the Yoruba. It was a major military center during the Yoruba civil wars of the 19th century. It was captured by the British in 1893. |
Brief history of towns in Osun Oshogbo, city, southwestern Nigeria, the capital of the State of Osun, about 80 km (about 50 mi) northeast of Ibadan. Oshogbo is located on the main rail line from Lagos to the northern states. It is a market center for cacoa, palm products, tobacco, and cotton. Farmers in the surrounding area grow vegetables, corn, yams, and cassava. Factories in Oshogbo produce steel, textiles, and plastics. In 1840 Oshogbo was the site of a critical battle in which Yoruba forces repelled an invasion by the Fulani of Ilorin. It grew rapidly in the mid-19th century. The city has become a leading center for the revival of traditional Yoruba culture, with shrines and ceremonies dedicated to the river goddess Oshun. Ede, city in southwestern Nigeria, in Osun State. The city is located on the Oshun River, northeast of Ibadan, between Iwo and Oshogbo. Ede is on Nigeria’s main railroad connecting Lagos and Kano. Cotton, cacoa, yams, cassava, and corn are grown in the area. Local industries include cotton weaving, cottonseed milling, and cacoa and palm processing. The city is the home of the Timi of Ede, an important Yoruba chief. Ife (city, Nigeria), also called Ile-Ife, city in southwestern Nigeria, in Osun State. Cacoa, oil palm, yams, cassava, and corn are grown in the surrounding area. The chief industries in Ife include cocoa and palm processing, cotton weaving, and sawmilling. Obafemi Awolowo University (1961), a museum of Yoruba art, and the museum of the Institute of African Studies are located here. Ife is the spiritual capital of the Yoruba people. According to legend, it was founded by Oduduwa, the creator of humankind. From as early as the 12th century, the city’s artisans crafted fine, naturalistic cast-bronze and terra-cotta heads that are world-renowned for their beauty. Ife is the site of the palace of the Oni, one of the chief leaders of the traditional Yoruba religion. The city was destroyed in 1849 and rebuilt in 1882. |

Yoruba tradition has it that Ile-Ife in the State of Osun is where Olodumare started the creation of the world. It represents the beginning of life, the birthplace of civilization, the embodiment of all that we see or feel. Osun is the ancestral home of the Yoruba Race whether home or abroad. It is the central and most important location of this morally rich, culturally sound and highly sophisticated race in the world. It represents the spiritual, the physical and the technological. Vision is the pathway and the guiding light into the future. This was what the founding fathers and agitators for the creation of a state to be named ‘’ Osun ‘’ had in mind and did everything possible to realise the vision. They weathered opposition and confronted obstacles for the generation past, present and unborn. Creation The struggle for the creation of Osun started as early as 1950. At that time, the present senatorial districts namely Osun West, Central and part of Osun East were subordinate towns under the administration of Ibadan District Native Authority but in their determination to get independence, traditional rulers and citizens of Osun Area submitted a petition to the British Colonial Administration in Nigeria demanding autonomy for Osun Division, with Oshogbo proposed as the headquarters To realise their aim, they pursued this agenda further in 1951, when a Commission Of Inquiry was set up the Colonialists, headed by H.L Butcher primarily saddled with investigating the crisis in Ibadan District Native Authority between Chief Salami Agbaje and Olubadan-in-Council. At this commission, named H.L Butcher Commission of Inquiry, a representation was made by people of Osun Area reiterating their resolve for autonomy. This demand was granted on March 17th 1951, thus recommending autonomy for Osun District Towns on April 1st 1951. The resilience and doggedness of the founding fathers and crusaders for the creation of Osun was rewarded on August 27th 1991, when the administration of Gen Ibrahim Badamosi Babangida created nine states with Osun created out of Oyo State with Osogbo as the capital. It was a dream fulfilled and hope achieved. Osun emboldens the history of a people whose quest for freedom, self-actualization, determination and hope for a better tomorrow fought and won the battle for its creation. It was a dream fulfilled and hope achieved Osun State, Nigeria, came into existence on 27th August, 1991. The State which is one of the then nine newly created States was carved out of the old Oyo State by the General Ibrahim Babangida‘s administration. It is one of the 36 States which make up Nigeria. The 1991 census puts the population of the State at 2.2million. There are more than 200 towns, villages and other settlements in the State. The state has a considerable number of highly urbanized settlements. Some of the major towns are Osogbo. Ile-Ife, Ilesa, Ikirun, Iwo, Ede, Ila-Orangun and Ikire. Others include Ipetumodu, Ejigbo, Ilobu, Gbongan, Okuku, Inisa, Ijebu-Ijesa, Ipetu-Ijesha, Ifon-Osun etc.

KnowAll: i hope d fly-over is going somewhere, no be 4 showI was surprised too when I noticed it. A whole bridge used only by the governor. Was it for security or what sef? It's deifnately not a reasonable reason justifiable. |
ochejoseph: Wonderful News ! But don't be sad if you don't see it as broadcast message on your BBM , retweeted on twitter, posted to Facebook or shared on Nairaland.Nice one, very true. Many of us re-broadcast evil news and propagate bad news while we ignorantly achieve the aims of these evil terrorists, which is to cause panic and give the impression that they're gaining ground. It's still a mystery to me how these international news outlets made it their priority to concentrate more on bad news than the good ones. |
Collynzo16: so he even constructs roads?Same here. The impression I had about him was far below what the op posted. Still better than some state governors, at least he constructed road(substandard), built market and secondary school graduates in hus state are performing above average in their external exams. |
aljharem: Walihi, WE DO NOT NEED SOMEONE LIKE TINUBU.He hasn't provided solution, because he's doesn't capable to me. But, he has provided those that are capable and are providing solution: Fashola, Oyegun, Amosun, Aregbesola... |
aljharem: The truth is that if Buhari, Oyegun, Aregbesola, Senator Ojudu and Senator Ayo, are removed from the APC, what is left would be another PDP or something worse than it. Nigeria has no opposition party that is worthy of the name "credible opposition". Is it Atiku (Halliburton and Jefferson accomplice), Tinubu (Forged certificate, corruption Plc), Fashola (Chief agent of Dangote's forcible land grab and leader of "Drive-poor-people-away-from-Lagos" policy) or Bukola Saraki (Societe General's bankrupter-in-chief)? Who is it?Thanks bro for this post. It seems we that have realised no sane, innocent nor an incorruptible party in Nigeria today are increasing day-by-day. Majority of our politicians are crooks with dead consciences. We just have to select the few ones that are principled and focused from all these dirty parties that we have. Too bad, Many of these few principled ones are not politically sound for Nigeria's type of politics, that's why we just have to allow ANYONE who presents them to us play the dirty politics that he's good at. You listed Aregbesola and Oyegun as one of the few ones that differntiated the APC from the PDP, I totally agree with this. But you need to understand that it's this same corrupt Tinubu that made this people have the post they're occupying today. No sane human being should go for Ikimi over Oyegun for obvious reasons. They are not in anyway close in term of track record. In short, our politics and system is bad, we just have to do everthing right to make sure those few ones whose track records are convincing get the job. This is why we need guys like Tinubu. |
Gbawe: I like how you put issues wittily. Seriously, the same Nigeria we curse is the same nation foreigners still flock to for the purpose of taking advantage of unique opportunities virtually no other nation of the world offers. We need to open our eyes to the opportunities around us and realise that nothing stops us from delivering solutions to our own problems.I have thought about same long ago, using the existing annual Osun-Oshogbo festival as a starter to trap down those guys that are crazy about it from South American countries and spend their cash. That's why my final year studio design project while in school as an architecture was on tourism and hospitality in Osun, Oshogbo particularly. I proposed a resort centre, built along the Osun river, just behind Osun-Oshogbo sacred groove. The name(Living spring resort) which I gave it, was gotten from the old motto of the state(State of the living spring) before Ogbeni came in and changed it to "Land of Virtue" ![]() The term "Living spring" as used before, was a reference to the status of Osun as the source of the Yoruba race. Which is the same conceptual development I used in planning the whole resort. The hotel building which is the principal structure in the resort stood for source of everything in the resort, while other functions(buildings) formed the flowing spring. Below are rendered views of the hotel building in the resort, a 40meters plus tall cotton wall structure. There are other places of interest in the state outside Oshogbo, like: The erin-Ijesha water fall, Oke-Imesi large ditch, the Oni's palace at other stuffs @ Ile-Ife. |
PointB: It funny the way you on one hand claim that I am 'viewing this from tribal lens' while you arrogate 'diplomatic reason' to yourself. This condescending attitude is one follies of many of you acclaimed Yoruba folks. The SEners or the Igbos have their choice to make for reasons best known to them which I have no issues with. You comparism of Obj's performance with that of Gej's made it obvious you're towing that line I'm not interested in. I assume your expectation was for one to defend Obj, but u got it wrong. |
anago900: hmmmn oyinlola campaign message, during aregbeshola rally.I didn't even know that until Femi Falana made reference to it. |
PointB: Compare his effort with Obj, and you will see the difference!Way better than Obj, but still performs far below expectation. I assume you're viewing this with tribal lens. Voting against Jonathan in the SW is nothing related to his tribe or religion but his poor performance in the region. The same diplomatic reasons 5 of the 6 SW States voted for him in 2011, is the same diplomatic reasons majority of us 'll use to vote him out in 2015. The man Obj has never been good to his region, you wonder why his best options for us were the likes of Gbenga Daniel, Akala, Fayoshe. People of no reputation. Tinibu is not a good fella, but those he presented to us through his party are technocrats of admirable records. You wanna compare Fashola, Amosun, Aregbe, Fayemi to those Obj had?! All I'm saying is that GEJ'll be voted against in the region, not because of tribe but because of the his little or no performance in the region. |
Jakpon: LackeyVery good questions. That aside, when they wanted to redeem their images and correct their wrongs, the best they had was Omisore, damn pathetic!! Presently, many of the top PDP officials in Osun were once locked with Omisore in prison concerning Chief Bola Ige's death. Imagine the likes of Akala and Bankole being a party's main guys to be presented for an election. Even Bode George still has the right to move around as a party elder. The set of guys in PDP SW are enough to give Goodluck bad luck in the region. |
Xetima: Sorry, about 6 million Christians (Lagos - 3.0m, Oyo - 500k, Ekiti - 350k, Osun - 300k, Ondo - 350k, Ogun- 300), excluding Igbos in the SouthWest are already secured for Jonathan.I laugh at your ignorance. I thought the religious card PDP played in Osun but didn't work would be an eye opener for you lot, but it seems you guys are truly poor strategist who doesn't learn. |
