Those involved if known should be expelled and barred from other gov. schools in the state, for at least a year.

Untrained and lazy kids.

The state gov need to increase the min. credits from 4 to about 6 or 7 credits before any candidate is qualified for any sponsorship.
I don't see how a student with 4 credits in mock-exam is going to have the min. requirement of 5 credits to gain admission into a uni. in waec or neco.

Students that can't convince the gov of good grads in the ssce exams don't deserve to be sponsored. No amount should be wasted.

To tidy up the jobs in the sector and protect employees interest, I will recommend these policies.
1) Minimum wage should be approved for private school workers

Minimum wage is not realistic for employees of private schools. Putting these factors into consideration makes it impossible:
- Private schools don't have a common school fees parents pay for their wards . E.g. Private schools in Lagos, Abuja, Ph & Ogun state charge far above their counterparts in other states. Imagine having same minimum wage for employees of Private schools in Abuja and Ondo. Proprietors In Ondo won't have any profit in this case.

2) There should be an established labour union to protect the right of workers.

There is an existing Federal government body that is in place for this already.

3) Compulsory pension plan insurance for every private school employee

This is not a bad idea. But it's usually abused by new generation private school employees, as they mostly get the job to while away time and not to stay long being an employee to a private school. I.e. Majority of the graduates you see working in private schools (posts below HOD), only seek to work in private schools pending the time they have a "better job". In this case, having a pension plan issuance for employees that spend only few months or maximum a year won't favour the school owners. Because this will create a lot of pension plan for workers who have contributed little or nothing to the establishment, which may result to no gain for the school owners in the long-run.

I hope he noted and start taking actions on the fed roads that need attention in the state, and not just there for picture.

The list below contains fed roads in Osun that work should start on as soon as possible:

1. Gbongan junction >> Osogbo >> Osun-Kwara border road.
2. Ibadan >> Ife >> Ilesa >> Akure road. (Needs to be completely dualized from Ilesa >> Akure)
3. Osogbo >> Iwo
4. Imesi-Ile >> Ekiti state (Too dangerous curvy & narrow road along a ditch)

I hope the contract workers that are going to work on this project won't be the Chinese. Bringing Chinese labourers after the Chinese companies have been awarded the contract is like Nigeria borrowing money from China to pay local Chinese for job meant for Nigerian labourers.

Nigerian Government should be careful of any agreement with foreign financial institutions, if the money is meant to be repaid.

Nigeria generally has a long way to go, even the FCT has dusty roads (not suburb). This doesn't justify the un-tarred road in Ogun though.
Most border roads in Ogun are in terrible conditions. Sagam-Ikorodu, Ijebu Ode-Imota, and also the one in Akute.

Last saturday, Gov. Amosu drove past me along QUARRY road in Abeokuta as if he is an ordinary citizen (i.e No siren, no excessive entourage - not even press/media team). Largest investor
The US is the largest foreign investor in Nigeria, according to the State Department. Bilateral trade was $18.2 billion in 2012, according to US trade data, in favour of Nigeria.

This was in 2012 when oil has value, not anymore.

The present administration should be not backdown for any unhealthy bilateral trade that 'll kill local industries.
For now, no Bilateral trade between Nigeria and the US can be in favour of Nigeria.

I have seen the model schools; one after Aro, Along Lagos- Abeokuta expressway. I've also seen the one located not far from Sagam.

For the flyovers, I used five out of all. Two in Abeokuta, also along Lagos-Abeokuta expressway, one at Sagam and the remaining two at Ijebu, passing over Sagam-Benin-Ore-Expressway to link Imota-Ikorodu (Lagos) road.

In fairness to the chap you responded to...he is right.

And yes....I am not justifying Fayemi's alleged overspending.(If he is guilty....he should be prosecuted).

Fact is....we do not have many goodies because we do not pay enough tax. For years.....we could avoid the low revenue by just selling oil and agric produce and minerals.....and sharing the kudi.

But that made the government think that they had no responsibility towards us.

Ironically....by raising taxes from us Nigerians....APC is putting themselves in the hot seat.Governments whose revenue comes from taxes tend to do better in the service delivery aspect than those who get money from selling raw materials to industrial nations...and pocketing the money. They know that if they do not produce value for the taxes....they will be in big trouble.

So...this raised taxes thing might be a good idea for us Nigerians.....and may make things hotter for the APC.

And the above reason is why Germany provides better services. They know most of their revenue comes from taxes....so they cannot afford to mess up. Unlike our governments past and present who know that they do not rely on our taxes for anything....the oil money until last year was flowing in....and as a result....think they owe us nothing.

But that might be about to change.

The budget for roads and other infrastructures this year is reasonable, never have we had such huge amount on infrastructure. let's just hope there'll come into fruition.

Bank here charge 5€ on accounts every month. This is a country with good economy.

Nigerians should understand that we can't expect anything good from government if we don't pay tax.

Nice one JP. I think we are basically on the same page. You mentioned, though, that you didn't rate them high because of infrastructure; care to discuss why you rated them high? Just curious cos I've not been to any private school. I totally agree with you when it comes to accountability and mission running schools. A classical example is the impact of mission in anambra public schools since management was handed back to them. Phenomenal! Yet, budget vs actual is a standard problem or issue world over. While I cannot categorically claim they mismanage their funds, I can assign a margin of difference/error to expected results vs budgeted results. Association of certified fraud examiners claim the average cost of fraud per organization is 5% of revenue of allocation in this case. If you take away 5% from 8.5bn, the balance is still a tall order. That's just one aspect still. Anyway, I'm happy to know that CU and other private universities are pulling their weight. I'm sure school calendars, cultism etc are also considered and the likes of CU would rank tops in such aspects due to their zero tolerance.

As regard why I rated them high, and probably some of the factors the NUC couldn't ignore, to have rated CU high against the expectation of many like yourself, who have little or no idea about how few outstanding private universities operate, like CU. I will make two points, and I hope they will be good enough.

-Student-Lecturer ratio/relationship
I don't think there is much to be said on this, because I believe we all know there is no consideration for such by any of our Federal schools. This is well considered in some Nigerian privates schools like covenant. If you've had the time to visit some colleges/universities in Western Europe or The North America, believe me it's not too different from how few private schools in Nigeria are managed. I was discussing with now a final year law student in OAU while I was in Nigeria, she told me they are about 200 or so students in her class . I doubt if there is any of these private schools that has up to 50 students in a class, which is still below standard anyways, but reasonable when compared to federal schools.
And note this, not that some of these schools are not patronised, which made it look like they are following standard regulations. No, CU reject thousands of students ever year. I doubt if there is any chance for applicants without CU as first choice during admission.
As for the student-lecturer relationship, there is nothing to say that you don't know.

I'm not sure of the best heading to give this, but I hope you will get my point. CU gets whoever lecturer/personality they need.
Well... I'm don't know how they manage to do this, but they actually do. They have visiting lecturers for renowned institutions outside Nigeria, which many of our Fed. institutions don't really care about. I also never thought it matters until recently.

I'm into architecture and I'll use this department as an example. There is this old prof, who architects in Nigeria refer to as the father of architecture, because he was the first Nigerian to become a prof in architecture. He laid the foundation of department of architecture in Abu(Zaria), which made Zaira the #1 school of architecture at a time. He moved to Futa and made the department of architecture in that school one of the top schools to study architecture in Nigeria. About four years ago, I learnt this man moved to CU. whoever thought he'ld leave fed establishment for a private university. His presence in CU shot the school to either #1 or #2 school of architecture in Nigeria today.
There is this International architectural body (forgot the name), they only recognise two Nigerian universities, CU and Unilag.

I've only talked about the department I know of, how about the other departments..? who knows what's happening there. I hope this tells enough. Again, I never went to CU.

Thanks man. Higher institutions are not ranked based on infrastructures alone. Tenure for professors, publications, affiliations with other great schools, even the clout of their alumni etc. While I agree that CU graduates are very good products (considering those I have worked with), there are certain areas where only time and focus can get the school to. Take for instance funding, this year alone the federal ministry of health, per the budget, plans to expend 8.5bn naira in UNN teaching hospital. That is a a lot of money and not an amount most private universities can contend with. This amount should be for training, tenure, sponsorships, salaries, infrastructure of just the college of medicine. When other factors are also taken into consideration, you would realize that the basis for ranking may not have factored in a lot.

I definitely don't know more than the NUC. But for the sake of transparency, it would be great if the basis of assessment is also made public.

FYI, I'm not a graduate or student of UNN.

Thanks for the information with a source provided. I rated them high not for infrastructures, because they don't even have nice structures when compared to the likes of OAU and to an extent Uniben.

Please note that huge budget doesn't translate to effective usage, which is the case of most of the government owned institutions. Federal universities (especially those of first generation) have always gotten the highest portion of the budget for education, but huge percentage of it ends up in the account of the top ranking officials of these schools. Which is a different case in most privately run businesses, where accountability is not joked with. This however doesn't mean those private schools ain't got enough, especially those affiliated with populated religious establishment. Where members are asked to pay some dues for running of these schools despite the huge tuition fee they charge their students. lol.

Some other points you made are other reasons I said the school is lagging, and why they have not been rated above the few Fed universities they trail.
