Its quite intresting. When i was a kid, i was always called stubborn, playful, knuckle head. My Pops would want to beat book into me.

Some how as far back as my Primary 1, i got to understand that as long as you passed the 3rd term exam, you moved to the next class. so i could be the last in the class but by 3rd term i was top 5. Anyways moved on to secondary school from class 5, was doing well but when i wasn't getting the attention i wanted from my folks; my grades started dropping. By ss3 i couldn't say the multiplication table.

my tutor told me i was just wasting my Pop's money. I swallowed it but still kept pushing.

Right now there's hardly anything under the sun that i don't have a clue about. I got degrees & certification under my portfolio, and will defend them, any day.
I have gathered so much knowledge and experience because i wanted to prove the world wrong.

Such kids need only to be loved and they are special
Bless you for yr endevour and fortitude!!!!

This thread was started in April 2008, that's about 3 years ago and there's been no response from the original poster. I hope this gets his attention and he comes back to shed more light on the cause and solution of this very serious problem.

I have a cousin had this problem His younger and elder siblings made jest of him so much that his self esteem was at the lowest ebb.

Today, he's 19 and studying Engineering in a Nigerian University. Everyone is surprised that he's achieved so much and gone as far as he has but I must tell you that it wasn't easy.

I was his tutor for a short while. I was very patient, loving and encouraging and I am proud to say; I contributed to his success story because he learnt to read with my help.

I am not a professional but I think what these set of people need most is patience and encouragement.
If you think about it they are really strong willed and are more determined then other kids. If you think about what they have to shoulder and yet try amd maintain, they are stars. Its hard enough trying to learn to play the piano, and harder when yr blind. What about these kids doing their best with a deficiency. Tell yr cousin he is a STAR!!

This is a great post indeed, even if its only to enlighten others. They say enlightenment is the death of ignorance. I had a personal situation that Id like to share with everyone. My last child,a boy of 12 yrs was not doing well in math. I have two other kids older then him, a boy in university and a daughter doing very well at the highest level in secondary school. I brushed it off as not being anything major, but in his last year in primary school, I noticed a steep decline in his grades. I couldn't figure it out. I thought well it must be the school etc etc. Being a partime business school lecturer and a banker, I thought if I can help bachelor level students and investors, then I should be able to help my own son. I just need to make time. So i did. In the weekends Id make time and during the week I would leave small assignments he could do just to keep the brain warm so to speak. But it wasn't long before I noticed strange things. He would mix up his numbers, 17 would be written as 71. Also steps in calculations he just couldn't grasp. Basic math analogies he could understand. His handwriting was also not that good. It took a lot of patience to not want to scream of get angry, since he is a bright and a sweet kid. Also when he expresses himself in speech you cant believe its the same kid. To cut to the chase, I started investigating and talking to learning disability experts. Turns out he has dyscalculia. In short Dyslexia with numbers. Every characteristic he had, everything. So we took him to get tested. Turns out he has it. In short the section of the brain that takes care of how you visualise and due calculations is not functioning at 100%. IQ for verbal was high around 120, but non verbal assessment was in the low 90/80. When I found out I shed tears, not that I felt he was any less, but I could only imagine the hurt he must have been going through at school for something he couldn't help. I spoke to him about it and he even said he wanted to end his life at times because he just couldn't understand what the teacher was going on about and the other kids did and made jokes about him. Turns out I have a very small form of it myself. When I see more than 4-5 numbers together, I need to really concentrate to see them, and I'm an investment banker tongue I always though it was my eyesight as I had a habit of not always putting on my glasses. Anyway as for my boy, we found him a special secondary school which he will attend next year. Here they will teach him how to manage his problem. He will be with kids with the same disability so no more shame and he will get special attention. Usually within 1- 2 years he will stream into the regular secondary school. My Lil man wants to be an archaeologist. Sweet kid, we love him dearly and wouldn't know what to do without him  (see his pic taken last summer vacation in the Caribean, a darling he wink)But I couldn't help but think about children in 9ja. Some will be flogged, abused and told they are lazy or dumb whereas its not their fault. When I thought about that, I was even more sad then when I found out about my boy. At least he will get help in this society. So this post is fantactic, chapeau. I'm thinking of taking out an add in a newspaper even if its just to inform the society of this ill (dyslexia/dyscalculia).

If therez any consensus regarding Buhari amongst varying groups of reasonable people even as far as the international community, it is that BUHARI IS NOT CORRUPT. other allegations against him may be argued out before possibly being proven to be untrue but as far as corruption goes, theres no argument there.  It is a certified fact that Buhari is not corrupt. Gbam!!!. They've tried and toiled, plotted and conspired but they've failed woefully at attempts to smudge his incorruptible record.
Hmm incorruptible you say, sorry but Im yet to posses the Godly power or knowing all that happens under the sun. I agree that of all the canidates he is the lessor LovePeddler, but a LovePeddler is a LovePeddler is a LovePeddler, sorry. But help me out. Why did his own cousin commit suicide? How did that NNPC money thing go again, o yeah they were rotating it on each others accounts? Um and can you vouch for all his other cornies i mean party members tongue Listen if it makes you feel good support him I have no qualms really. His is the lessor of evils, but to say he is pure as the snow, you need to stop drinking the cool aid. Now get a pencil sharpen it up, school is in session: Corruption is not only monetary. Thats why they say absolute power CORRUPTS absolutely. Hmm do you remember Decree 4 when he entered power, well let me help you. I will go very very slow:Decree Number 4 forbade any journalist from reporting information considered embarrassing to any government official. Two journalists, Tunde Thompson and Nduka Irabor, were convicted under the decree. Decree Number 2 gave the chief of staff at Supreme Headquarters the power to detain for up to six months without trial anyone considered a security risk. Special military tribunals increasingly replaced law courts while the state security agency, the National Security Organisation, was given greater powers.  Now if you man was so clean, WHY ARREST FREEDOM OF THE PRESS.  shocked

very true but the thing about the lockerbie situation which the UK govt is not very keen to discuss is the fact that the documentation and investigations into the incident have been placed under a public interest immunity certificate for life which means that none of the documentation surrounding this case will ever be released to the public - this now begs the question - why?

if it is that al megrahi was responsible and the libyans admitted responsibility why the secrecy? what is it about this incident that the UK/US govt do not want the public to know about. even a british mp Tam Dalyell asked similar questions and after much investigation surrounding this matter came to this conclusion:

http://scottishlaw..com/2009/08/tam-dalyell-writes-on-truths-about.html

I honestly beleive that if gadaffi and his sons ever have an opportunity to have their day in court the world will be appalled to find out the kind of atrocities that the US/UK govt have been comitting around the world this is why they are desperate to silence him.
So very true. Wikileaks has taught us just how dishonest these leaders are. Would one have thought that his sons would be throwing lavish parties etc. I think (IMO) that they may have struck an oil deal with them. Even one of his generals recently confessed that Gadaffi was behind the bombing. THEY ARE ALL BIRDS OF THE SAME FEATHER, just some are chickens and others are Eagles, with some being vultures.

The Gaddafi boys were big spenders Washington
February 24, 2011

Looking for Work in the UK? Find Jobs for Australians in the UK.

AFTER New Year's Day 2009, Western media reported that Seif al-Islam Gaddafi, a son of Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi, had paid Mariah Carey $US1 million to sing four songs at a bash on the Caribbean island of St Bart's.

In the newspaper he controlled, Seif denied the report - the big spender, he said, was his brother, Muatassim, Libya's national security adviser, according to a US diplomatic cable from the capital, Tripoli.

It was Muatassim, too, the cable said, who had demanded $US1.2 billion in 2008 from the chairman of Libya's national oil corporation, reportedly to establish his own militia. That would let him keep up with yet another brother, Khamis, commander of a special-forces group that ''effectively serves as a regime protection unit''.

Advertisement: Story continues below As the Gaddafi clan conducts a bloody struggle to hold on to power in Libya, cables obtained by WikiLeaks offer a vivid account of the lavish spending, rampant nepotism and bitter rivalries.

The glimpses of the clan's antics in recent years that have reached Libyans despite Gaddafi's tight control of the media have added to the public anger. And the tensions between siblings could emerge as a factor in the chaos in the oil-rich country.

Although the Gaddafi children are described as jockeying for position as their father ages, three sons fought to profit from a new Coca-Cola franchise.

''All of the Gaddafi children and favourites are supposed to have income streams from the National Oil Company and oil service subsidiaries,'' one cable from 2006 says.

Wow is all one can say. On the outside they seem so just, but the real reason for staying in power has nothing to do with serving the people, but serving themselves. In his last news conference to the people, he reminded them of his offers to them. Seems he forgot to mention Mariah.

BTW they say Usher and Beyonce were there too (OMG)

ShangoThor:
You're attempt to undermine me by making reference to your educational achievements is crap, a typical Nigerian Braggart, all the education and incapable of effecting change for the betterment of the people. This does not phase me though because you do not know who I am and I am not prepared to brag about my achievements. Some of the most successful individuals in the world did not attain degrees from Universities, Richard Branston, Bill Gates and the list goes on. Nevertheless, the reason why they have become successful is because of their environment and the foundational rules of their environments.

The Colonial vampires left us with a constitution that was meant to be Secular. This was derived from meetings where all participating parties
that were involved in discussions for independence. Since then, sections of the Bourgeois in Nigeria (particularly the Army) meddled and tampered with the constitution
to the point of rendering it ineffective. It is meant to be Secular, and there is also meant to be a clear distinction between the machinery
of State and the executive. This is why nothing is working in Nigeria. The Secular State has been modified to the point of it
being ineffective. This is where the "Ambiguous State" claim comes from.

You make me laugh, you cannot bamboozle people with crap, we are in the "digital age", if I am talking absolute crap run a Google search for: Is the Nigerian State Secular? This is the main problem with Nigeria, you have a group of people trying to defend what Fela calls an "Arrangeee" system, even though it clearly does not work.

By the way, Ambiguous State, implies we do not an "identifiable system" and I don't know whether to laugh or cry here!

Secondly, with regards to INDIA, I'm not going to go over it again, I did not claim INDIA was not a Secular State, what I implied
is that the Secular State had made provision for ALL of its religions, thus taking account that it is a PLURALISTIC polity.

It does not make an exception for ONE DOMINANT RELIGION!
There is no need for you to type in red or get angry. I was not bragging (beleive me) just stating the facts. I did learn this in undergrad way back. If this is bragging to you, I better not state what I do. But accept my apologies if you fell I was putting you down, not the case. I ran a search as you http://search.yahoo.com/search;_ylt=Ak4xnXKq8hPEpp1G0omkemmbvZx4?vc=&fp_ip=gb&p=is+the+nigerian+state+secular&toggle=1&cop=mss&ei=UTF-8&fr=yfp-t-892said and sorry to say NOTHING you claim popped up, actually the first seach result showed as I mentioned, it was not a secular state. Whats interesting is that it seems that you dont know where you stand. First you claimed Boko Haram, then you asked if there were secular states that operated with other religious influences, then when I answered, you danced around that. Initially you called for the split and now you come back only use my first post (which you initially laughed off), when I claimed that the difference was not religion or any of that, but the have and have nots. But you still have not told us how solving the secular issue will help Nigeria. As I asked previously (and now again), is that the reason why we dont have steady electricity, no jobs, bad infrastructure, high crime rate, no running water, uncontrolled corruption in all facets of government, etc, etc, etc and the list goes on? NO, its mismangement and bad governance PERIOD. Have a look at different global panels, websites as to what the problem is with Nigeria. Religion is way down the list. Number one Bad Governance. Every single issue that the country has comes back to bad governance. I wish it were that simple to blame it on religion, but its not. The fact is that religion has played a minor role in Nigeria, but has always been given a front row seat why, BECAUSE IT HAS ALLOWED THE HAVES TO DIVIDE AND RULE. So this was used by the moslims as well as the Christians. Were the 1st coup plotters not Christians? The first minister of theft finance, was it not a southener (Okotie Eboh)? What religion was the counter coup successor again: GOWON WAS A CHRISTIAN, NOT MUSLIM. I dont know how long I have heard an ibo man will never head the army, guess what, we now have one. Who did the PDP choose to rep them, even though some fought tooth and nail for zoning. My point is simple. Yes there has been turmoil, region wise and religious wise, but it has always and will always be the haves vs the have nots. I refuse and will not hate or be against any well meaning muslim or northerner Nigerian. Faith has made them my brothers. I say well meaning since I dont consider a radical (be it muslim or christian) to be well meaning. At the end of the day dont they want what I want. What makes you think that a Northerner is happy about the situation in Nigeria? Have you ever sat down and spoken to any of them? I have, they are also not happy. The only difference is that in the North,in contradiction to the west, and south, a rich man wont flaunt his wealth and openly oppress the poor, but they are not stupid. They see that they are being left out. As I mentioned, you can split that country into all the micro countries you want, the issue of bad governance will remain. The only difference will be that teh club wil be smaller. For the good order, I dont want you to be offended, if I did accept my apologies.  You nor I are the direct reason that its going bad in that country, or we would be slapping thighs and laughing now in Dubai. PEACE.

Pbundles, nice try, INDIA is not a good example because the way the laws are drafted takes account of INDIA as a PLURALISTIC polity.

If you to put Nigeria into that context, the constitution would allow for Xtian States adopting Xtian or Jewish constitutions, and those derived from Traditional Religions would be able to form their own unique States and constitutions in Southern Nigeria. What we have now is tantamount to a
discriminatory setup to appease a particular religion. In other words, you cannot use a pluralistic setup as a justification for an exclusive exception.

A Secular constitution stipulates "one rule for all".
You are funny, but at least you will get credit for trying. You are a perfect example of the issues we have. Instead of opening up an assuming possibly you could learn something (dont take offense), you will argue you case whether its based on facts or not. And if all doesnt work, we will through some grammer, maybe we can shake them (more smoke screens). Im a partime lecturer in a university, anyways back to the what we were discussing. Ignorance is not pretty. Are you saying that India is not a secular statehuh? Please dont say this around educated people. Let me help you: with the excemption of say 30 countries ( dont feel like listing them all), most are secular. Most norther african countries (tunisia, egypt etc) are classified as having a state regilion. Another tip undecided Nigeria is actually NOT a SECULAR STATE (sorry to bust yr bubble) they are termed an ambiguous state. Look it up or ask someone who did Poli 101 they should be able to help you. Never thought that I would be falling back on my undergrad days (took it as a minor some 15 years ago). I would search the web fro you for links and stuff but dont feel the urge to look up things Im sure about. It would be like me googling is Abuja is really the capital of Nigeria. Interesting for someone not from Nigeria, but a waste for me (get it). But feel free to. And let us know what you found. Possibly with actual references wo we can check.

@ShangoThor concerning your question:Can you name me One country or Nation State in the world where there is the existence of a clustester of Sharia adopting States within a Secular State?
Yes there is : INDIA! The law of India wa drafted to deal with relgious beliefs, crazy but true. Indian law is complex, with each religion having its own specific laws. There are separate laws governing Hindus, Muslims, Christians, Sikhs and followers of other religions. The exception to this rule is in the state of Goa, where a Portuguese uniform civil code is in place, in which all religions have a common law regarding marriages, divorces and adoption. Well said, and thats why we nominate all of you that believe this is the case to go and negotiate and reason with Boko Haram and live in Jos. LOL Pleeeeease wink
So let me get  this straight, the reason why we have  the problems we have in Nigeria is because of Boko Haram? Really? Im a Southerner, but please remind me again, the kids that were kidnapped somewhile back in SE, which part of Jos did they come from? The mess at MMA was sabotaged by Boko Haram. The reason why qualified undergraduates cannot find a job is because of Boka Haram. Electricity that Ghana can guarantee to their civilians we cant because of Boko Haram. Corruption at its highest order, let us guess Boko Haram. That police and teachers are not paid meaningfull salaries and as such have resulted to unlawful behaviour all together folks,  Boko Haram.  The situation in Warri, Boko Haram. Ibori was forced to steal by guess who folk, Boko Haram. That the average Nigerian is not guaranteed the right of meaningful life Boko Haram. Wow Im getting afraid, these guys are really deep rooted, but explain one thing to me: WHY IS IT THAT MAINSTREAM MUSLIMS HAVE ALL SAID THEY HAVE NO AFFILIATION WITH THEM AND THEY ARE NOT REPS OF ISLAM. Have you heard of David Koresh? A crazy man who said he was from the tribe of David and was stocking ammunition till the US authority interceded. He was Christian. The Spanish Inquisition (look it up) carried out by Catholics. So religious upheaval is inbred in every society, but please oh please dont tell me thats why Nigeria is in the state it is. If we got rid of every member of Boka Haram and created a Berlin wall to separate Christians from Muslims, it will be your local politician (possibly from your own home town/village) that will cause ruin.
Foreign AffairsRe: South Sudan Becomes 54th African State by PBundles(m): 11:52am On Feb 03, 2011
This is wonderful news indeed. All the best to them. This is how it should be, a government for the people by the people and they have spoken. Much kudos to the North for accepting it, even though much of their revenue is in the South. Back to Nigeria, it amazes me how our plight is compared to that of Sudan. Their issue was more a difference in religion etc. Ours I'm sorry to say is more complex than that. I agree there are times when I feel there is a cultural difference bw the North and South, but in all honesty, I believe we have bridge that gap to a very large extent. A example of this is GEJ recent PDP nomination, winning key North states. Now fellow Nigerian ask yourselves and lets be honest, something we all have a problem being, would the situation really change? Really. So if there was a split the kidnappings in the S.E. would stop? That infrastructure would improve? That there would be no issues with christians in the North and vice versa? And most importantly POLITICIANS WOULD NOT RANSOME OUR WEALTH AND THE FUTURE OF OUR CHILDREN AWAY, REALLY R U SO NAIVE TO BELIEVE THIS. My fellow Nigerians the biggest issue we have is governance and leadership. One that abides by the laws and respects all Nigerians in the assurance of a better future. Have a look at the House of Rep or Senate, aren't they representing ALL regions and religions and yet they as a bunch have seen to be corrupt. What about the bank crisis, weren't all regions and religions involved. Come on my brothers and sisters this North South thing is a smoke screen so we don't see the truth. The real division is not Christian and Muslim, North or South its the have and have nots. To be fellow christians may you remain blessed to my muslim brothers and sisters I say salum alekum.

Its possible to print money without inflation as long as the velocity of money is inversely proportional to money supply.

Sanusis bailout was a classic example as credit squeeze slowed the velocity of money. Likewise Bernanke seeing that the velocity of money is slowing has proferred quantitative easing over and over again as a panacea for yankees troubles.
Dont think he had an option. Do you see the Armageddon if all those banks would have failed? There would have been a mad rush for balances and people would have horded money in fear. No would would want to pay anything and monetary movement would have been at a standstill. Though in honesty I dont think Nigeria printed money , but stood as guarantor so to become shareholders. Remember some of these banks had eroded capital anyway.
PoliticsRe: Why Does A Country Needs To Borrow When She Can Easily Print More? by PBundles(m): 6:37pm On Dec 01, 2010
There are ways a country can raise capital. Issue bonds, Borrow or increase supply ( print money). The latter is not always a good idea as this will cause yr currency to be devalued. Since yr currency losses value, it means that it will cost more to buy anything within the country, so prices go high, thus inflation. Also yr debts increase. Remember yr currency has lost value so you need to pay more to repay them. Also from an FX perspective, you currency losses value. Mainly supply and demand issue. This of cousre if demand remains the same. The reason why the US is printing money is because they cant get money lent to them and the Chinese, Saudi and Japan have lent a lot. Also the printing is a double edge sword. Keep in mind I said that the money gets devalued. Have a look at the US currency since they have started, you will see a fall when compared to other currencies. Now those who hold US paper ( bonds) when they get paid, get far less back.

So in short, can be helpful in the shorterm to kick start an economy and easy payment obligations internally, but it has a price.

This ladies and gents is the prime reason we Africans and most importantly, Nigerians are not taken seriously, as we tend to talk with lots of emotion and most of the time have no f, ing clue as to what the true issues are. First and foremost, how does he then plan to fund the gap (66% less) that will be caused by this reduction? He probably thinks he will attract more companies, well he will need to attract 200% more just to get back to where he was. When other countries are looking at being fiscally prudent in these hard times, we are in a giving spirit ( Xmas maybe, LOL). In his discussion with foreign and sovereign countries they told him that the biggest problem was the tax rate? Let me guess, HE DIDNT DISCUSS WITH THEM. Now our leaders can read minds. Excuse Mr President aspirant, let me help you as to why companies have a hard time doing business in Nigeria:

Infrastructure (Electricity, Water, Roads etc)
Corruption
Banking conditions

Need I continue. Its not because we dont have educated trained staff. Enough graduates and the people of Nigeria are hard working, its the government that is a laughing shame. Shame on him for once again making us look silly. He probably doesn't know that in terms of growth Nigeria ranks consistently in the top 5 within emerging economies, BUT THE COST OF DOING BUSINESS IS APPROX 60% which is the highest within our peers.

The worst part, I can picture him saying this with full pride and confidence only to have those present ( business school students, professors and entrepreneurs) have a good laugh when he leaves, saying look at this foolish African. You know if a stupid person may seem intelligent if he says nothing and simply nods and smiles every now and then. GOOD GRIEF !!

Oya, ask yourself, which is the top destination for stolen Nigerian money in the last 150 years?

That's right.

Britain.

Britain holds in its banks TRILLIONS OF DOLLARS OF STOLEN NIGERIAN MONEY, both from the colonial and post-colonial era.

The stolen money is NOT sitting in Nigeria. It is sitting in London.

And I mean TRILLIONS of dollars in today's currency, if you count from 1897 to 2010.

Every so often, the British banks and their partners in Switzerland use the combined money to play kalo kalo on the financial markets, making unimaginable fortunes.

And then some token biatch gets a ''5 year'' sentence, out of which she'll likely serve just two years ''on good behaviour'', and we PRAISE THE BRITISH, while they get to keep our trillions with barely a whimper from us.

Amazing.

Talk about advanced 4-1-9.

Actually what yr saying is not true. Amounts retrieved on bank accounts which are perceived to have been obtained via illegals means are forfeited to the either the rightfull owner in the event it was stolen or seized by the government( in this case UK), so not the banks. I know this, im a director in a international bank. Note that Nigeria could have done the same (ie seize the assets, as in the case of Ibru, though she got 6 months- crimes pays i guess). The point most are making is the lack of justice being carried out in Nigeria, whereas in this case it seems to have been done.

Problem is if your not corrupt, the system gets rid of you and replaces you with someone who is, WHY YOU ASK, because of the food chain or in 9ja terminolgy the Chop Chain. You do realise he doesnt eat alone.

PoliticsRe: How Much Can You Sacrifice For Nigeria? by PBundles(m): 1:44pm On Mar 24, 2010
In all honesty and all jokes/anger aside, I think that most of us would not mind sacrificing for our country, the problem is and read cafefully,  would it be valued? There is absolutely no point in giving ones life for an unjust cause or at no benefit. Then your not brave, but no matter how well intention, pardon, but stupid and ignorant to the facts. The hardships and failed promises that we all have had to endure is not stimulating to say the least. The average Nigerian whether living in Nigeria or abroad, indirectly sacrifices. So when the little sacrifice is not helping, what would be the point in giving the ultimate, being ones life. I honestly believe that a time will come when we Nigerians, no matter religion and ethnic background will realise the true potential we have and no longer accept mediocrity I'msure that time will come, why because we are becoming exposed to what we should have instead of being fooled that we are fortunate. As many brothers and sisters travel abroad, see other societies, gain information that the new tech has provided us, we will slowly see a change. For those who don'tbelieve, I simply ask you to see the election of Obama as proof. Martin Luther King died more than 40 years ago and just over 45 years ago,  Blacks/negros were confirmed in the US Constitition as being 100 % human ( crazy I know, but its true, they were regarded 3/5 human). I know this as part of my roots are american. If you had asked the average American say 10 years ago if it was possibe they would have said no, even a year ago and now the US has a black president. So change is inevitable, because history has shown the resilience of the human spiirit to not waiver. I pray I see that day, then YES INDEED I will offer the maximum offer if need be. Sorry for the long post my proud brothers and beautiful sisters, stay loved and blessed.
PoliticsRe: Civil war not against Ndigbo — Gowon by PBundles(m): 3:58pm On Feb 16, 2010
Theblessed:
What are you rambling about, Mr Gowon? If the war wasn't targeted at the Igbo tribe, who else?  Imagine, millions of innocent Biafran civilians that were massacred and those that died of hunger, starvation and Kwoshiokor in the midst of that senseless war.  You, your people, your friends and those that supported you through out that war had nothing but hatred and jealousy in your hearts against the Igbos when you went into that war and, that was the reason, you did what you did to us - JEALOUSY.  You have no human hearts and the Lord will reward you all!

And those blaming Ojukwu for the atrocities of that war, I am asking you, who gave you guts?  If your own people were marginalised, abused, discriminated against, murdered and fed to the dogs wouldn't you do something in their defence?  Or you'd just sit there, fold your hands and watch the movies unfold under your own eyes.  Well, Ojukwu is a totally different kind, who would go out of his ways to protect his people and we all love him!  He did what he needed to do and without him, I wonder what would have become of Ndigbo in this your so called one Nigeria. We would have been History at the rate of your annihilation.  In fact, Mr Gowon, you and your men should now be facing war crime and, I wonder what's holding them from prosecuting you and your men at the Hague, for crimes against humanity as you came here disrespectfully, telling us whom you aimed the war at when millions died.  And since you aimed the war at your enemies and not the Igbo tribe par se what had you done or subsequent governments done ever since to compensate the Igbo tribe for the suffering/pain your war caused them?

For example, in Northern Nigeria Igbos where killed like rats and they are still doing it today.  Imagine the recent unrest in Jos, many people were killed and displaced.  At that time, pregnant Igbo women where butchered with knives and machetes and the unborn babies extracted out of their wombs with knives chei, what atrocious and horrible things human beings can do to another! You will all get your comeuppance if some of you hadn't got theirs yet.

As for Major General Odumegwu Ojukwu, I respect you till the day I die.  It takes a man with guts to take on the Nigerians at that time without proper equipment! You're the bomb!  In fact, to me, you're the only Nigerian man I know, that has "BALLS" - the rest are women wrappers.  Who among them now, could handle such a courageous and challenging war, I dare them if they call themselves men!

You are a very courageous man!  A man that took on the bulls and knock off the horns on their heads.  A man that fought a battle for 4 year with almost his bare hands. We had no proper ammunitions, we had no support whatsoever, we had to fabricate our own Ogbunigwes to teach Gowon and his men a lesson.  You dare not challenge us!

God bless you Ojukwu for all you did for us - good or bad at least you gave us back our dignity and the pride we have today as Ndigbo.  For you, I raise the roof 'cos you're the BOMB!!!!!

There is no need to place blame or medals of honor, history shall write itself. Doesnt it always. I dont doubt Ojukwu's intentions, but saying he has balls is a bit too far. He was a military man, so in which front/battle did he fight? Did he fire any weapons? He is quoted as saying he would give his life for the struggle (Its on BBC Archives) but did he not leave. Were young men not recruited to fight at the front? Pardon me for asking  but whom within HIS family was drafted young. As usual when Elephants fight the grass suffers. At some point this war became a personal endevour bewteen Ojukwu and Gowon. Its never been hidden that they didnt like each other. Gowon is lieing when he says it wasnt against Ndigbo and on the flip side Ojukwu was certainly not a man of valor.

idifu:
the war fought by Ojukwu wasnt a war fought to liberate or emancipate the Igbos the war was fought because of Ojukwu's self-interest to rule the Igbos, and it was unfortunate that so many people lost their lives in the warsad
Gowon too represented the Interest of the North he didn't fight to keep the nation as one but fought to satisfy the yearning and aspirations of the north to seek revenge. you see this is the unfortunate situation we find our selves in dis country, those at the corridors of power are always manipulating our people for their own interest, and most of our ppl being the ignoramus they are they follow these so called leaders of doom blindly because they have been brainwashed to believe dat they are fighting for their cause and that it is the right cause, the civil war was a war of self-interest of our so called Leaders ,it is a fact believe it or not.
VERY WELL SAID INDEED!
PoliticsRe: Civil war not against Ndigbo — Gowon by PBundles(m): 11:43am On Feb 16, 2010
It goes without saying that the civil war was probably the darkest event in Nigeria's history. I also feel that to move forward one must try and reconcile with the past. What Gowon has done actually makes it worst because, its a a lie he is telling and he contradicts his actions at the time. Ask ANY HISTORIAN, whether they come from the north, south, east or west, during the coup that put him in power, a flag was flown at the barracks. It was the flag of the Northern Confederate as and here it comes, a fact that many FORGET when they tell of the Biafra war : THE NORTH HAD PLANNED TO SECEED FROM NIGERIA DURING THIS COUP, BUT WERE TALKED OUT OF IT BY THE BRITISH. Please before I get hate response please fellow Nigerians (no matter where yr from, we are one) check these facts out. So the thing he used to fight against the Ibos was the same thing they were planning. Now my friends that makes you a hypocrite in my books. I wonder Mr Gowon if um OIL had anything to do with it? Well I take solice in knowing that one day WE ALL WILL FACE OUR CREATOR. I have no blood on my hands.

I have said my peace, may you all remain blessed.
