Sports › Re: Nigeria Basketball Thread! by PDPGuy(op): 8:49pm On May 12, 2022 |
As said by naptu
“I think they want to use the Yar'Adua and Goodluck Jonathan strategy.
In 2008 Nigerian football authorities presented an inflated budget to the government for the hosting of the 2009 FIFA Under 17 World Cup in Nigeria. President Yar'Adua then suddenly decided that Nigeria would no longer host the tournament. This shocking decision forced the sports authorities to drastically reduce the budget. (Nigeria hosted a very good tournament)
In 2010, after a disastrous World Cup both on and off the field, President Goodluck Jonathan decided that Nigeria would not get involved in international football for two years. FIFA gave us a deadline to reverse that decision and the football authorities promised to shape up. President Jonathan changed his mind after receiving promises from the football authorities. (Nigeria went on to win the 2013 African Nations Cup).
The Basketball Federation has been embroiled in a crisis for almost 4 years. There are 2 presidents and 2 boards. All efforts by the Sports Ministry to resolve the crisis has failed. In fact, some people now accuse the Sports Ministry of being a party to the crisis. Well, the Federal Government has now announced that Nigeria will not take part in international basketball matches for the next two years and that an interim committee will be set up to manage the Nigerian Basketball Federation (NBBF).
My main concern is that our girls are scheduled to take part in the World Cup in Australia in a few months and nothing should jeopardise their chances of competing in the tournament. I am convinced that they will have a good outing and I don't want another Rashidi Yekini - South Africa '96 situation.” |

Wike kor, woke ni .
That man just does not want Atiku to have the ticket; that’s his end game. He detests Atiku that much but he knows in his hearts of hearts he won’t smell any ticket himself.
Wike has said a whole lot of things that would make northerners not even care to give him votes. Wike is a sectarian leader and does not possess any quality that portrays him as a man with national outlook.
I mean Wike has taken some bold steps in speaking truth to power in the recent past, but mehn he’s stamped on a lot of toes in the north while doing so. Haha Wike may even be secretly funding Peter Obi’s campaign; because $ for $ Obi is no match to Atiku in wooing the delegates. A man who has been controlling TRILLIONS of Naira of Rivers state money surely has an advantage over Atiku |

I think the game against Leicester City where he scored those 2 fantastic goals is making United consider him a better option than Nunez! I prefer he goes to Arsenal because he will work better with their upcoming talents, rather than the largely spent forces at Utd. However, Man Utd are the only English team willing to splash £80 million + on him |

DissTroy: Wike doesn't want to be President. Gov. Udom doesn't want to be too. It's all a ploy to pressure the PDP to zone it to the South. And Wike pressured Udom to contest - they have been allies since 2016.
Obi's only 'flaw' in the North is where he hails from. If he were Igbo from the South South, he'd garner enough support in the North.
But Peter Obi is still the best candidate the PDP has contesting. Of all the others, he's still the only technocrat who excelled tremendously in a previous elected position given the available finances, and he's the only one who has it on his record to have reversed the economic woes of his domain or at least bettered it.
Building bridges, stadia, and other infrastructure would not improve the economy, and that's what Nigeria needs - an economic turn around. That's where Peter Obi comes in.
if he (Peter Obi) gets the ticket, the only reason he wouldn't win is the voter apathy, in the South East especially.
In 2015, Akwa Ibom gave Goodluck Jonathan 953,000 votes and Anambra gave Goodluck a paltry 650,000 votes (I took time to paste the 2015 election results here https://www.reuters.com/article/nigeria-election-results-idINL6N0WW4UM20150331 ), yet Anambra is slightly more populated than Akwa Ibom ( here I am adding the population of Nigeria by states https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Nigerian_states_by_population ).
The voter apathy is even worse in Ebonyi and Abia States. Throughout the South, actually.
Buhari won Goodluck by only 3 million votes. Compare the casted votes in the South East to the number of registered voters, and you'd realize how paltry it is.
Instead of listening to the intimidation by the North, if you properly analyse election results, you'd know the South's main problem is voter apathy. The Middle Belt vote our way, and they have the population too.
If it's not Peter Obi, Osinbajo or Fayemi, we are just voting for the lesser evil. But for economic transformation (which is really Nigerian's main concern) if it's not Peter Obi, we are just shortchanging ourselves. The voter apathy in the SE (and other parts of the south) was largely the result of the deliberate disenfranchisement of voters in those zones. I recall that a good number of voters in the south had issues receiving their PVCs from their local INEC HQs, while voters in the north were allowed to collect theirs from their local mosques and traditional rulers’ palaces. Moreover, on Election Day, 95% of incidences of faulty cars-readers occurred in the south, which angered a good chunk of voters and caused them to abruptly leave the polling units. Yes, in general, the political participation among regular citizens in the SE and SS is lagging behind their compatriots in the north. But we can’t jettison the effect of INEC’s (deliberate?) disenfranchisement of voters in the south on especially the 2015 presidential election. |
