Uzoho was the biggest disappointment yesterday. How did a GK that exuded so much confidence in Kumasi turn to shit in Abuja?! Also, I think Osimhen should have tried to control the crosses into the box, rather than try fancy overhead shots. You should only try those fancy attempts when your team has a comfortable lead, say a 2 or 3-goal lead. |

Any player in the world - be it Messi or Havertz - can miss those chances. However, he showed the most hunger of all the players over the 2 legs. Everyone from Coach Eguavoen down to the players (except Osimhen) are to blame for this failure. Our midfielder's lack of confidence in threading forward passes was a big part in this debacle as well.

Havertz10: What's this obsession that Nigerian government has with establishing a national carrier
There are concrete issues facing Nigeria, like electricity for instance, let's round the figure to 200,000 megawatts based on factors like transmission loses and the likes, amusingly Texas a state in America, had a total summer capacity of 125,117 MW through all of its power plants in 2019
Nigeria has gas, proven reserves are 187 trillion cubic feet
So the country needs 200,000MW for a start, let's approximate that each gas powered plant will produce 1000MW, very feasible
We would need to build 200 stations and it takes 2 years to build 1, if they are done concurrently, plus pipeline construction, it goes without saying that many of these youth that engage in counterproductive enterprises, can be employed, give them good pay, and other benefits like housing mortgages
Each cost about $1b to build, they can last 50 years on average
That's $200b about 87 trillion naira
How do we fund it and give it room to grow and innovate
That's where vertical integration comes in
Power plant cost is mostly based on the materials needed to manufacture it
You can commit different zones to manufacturing particularly components, bring in experts to teach and train, buy machinery that make them, tell universities to promote fields that aid the industry, produce graduates that will aid innovation and boost efficiency
You will employ millions and when you attain a certain level of manufacturing efficiency, you can even start exporting made in Nigeria machinery
Rome wasn't built in a day, the benefits of tackling electricity this way are endless, you can apply the same process to grow other industries
China was built this way
If you want private route, encourage the manufacturing of certain components locally with cheap government loans and the likes, promote investments into that sector
Better that the nostalgia trip of having Nigerian airways, Nigerians are poor and a significant portion of them can't afford even subsidized air fares, the location of the country doesnt give it an advantage to be a transit hub, so what's the point of the whole charade?
That process is feasible in under 8 years and its benefits will be evident in under 5 years I like your idea!! |

Travel › FG In Talks With Boeing, Airbus Over Nigeria Air by PDPGuy(op): 12:10am On Mar 29, 2022 |
The Federal Government has commenced discussions with two plane makers, US-based Boeing and Airbus, a European multinational aerospace corporation, to facilitate the purchase of aircraft for the country’s national carrier, Nigeria Air. BusinessDay gathered that several foreign airlines had indicated interest by submitting their bids as bidding is slated to end by May 10, 2022.
A source actively involved in the national carrier who craved anonymity told BusinessDay that Nigeria Air would kick off in July 2022 with three aircraft for short haul operations.
Long haul operations would commence about two years later, after the airline gets its IATA Operational Safety Audit (IOSA)audit.
The first out of the three wet leased aircraft for Nigeria Air is expected to arrive in the country in June, while the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) would be granting the airline its Air Operator’s Certificate, which would enable it to commence as a scheduled operator by June 2022.
BusinessDay also learnt that the airline has also selected its key personnel, all of whom are currently on ground. These include the managing director, project managers, chief financial officer, and chief commercial officer and operations manager.
The airline has chosen Abuja as its operational control center and the headquarters and is currently working on the website of the airline, which will be launched soon.
The source disclosed that the Federal Government would only have 5 percent stake in the airline, while the remaining 95 percent would go to foreign partners and indigenous private investors.
A further breakdown shows that out of the 95 percent, 49 percent of the investment would go to foreign partners, while 46 percent would be for other indigenous private investors.
“There are no preferred bidders yet for the national carrier. The process for the establishment of the national carrier, Nigeria Air, is very transparent and according to laid-down international standards,” the source said.
“We plan to increase the fleet to 30 aircraft in five years. These aircraft will include long haul and short haul aircraft. The plan for the national carrier started in 2015. Since 2015, we have been planning and putting things in place. The pandemic delayed but helped us plan well,” the source said.
James Odaudu, director of public affairs at the ministry of aviation, had recently hinted that the Federal Government was resolute about the establishment of a national carrier.
Odaudu said at this stage, no corporate entity or individual had been appointed or selected, or even preferred for the project as the process for selection had just started with the Request for Proposal.
He, however, said the Federal Government was committed to bequeath to the country a national carrier that Nigerians would be proud of, adding that the ministry remained committed to the project.
Hadi Sirika, minister of aviation, had said the national carrier project, which is part of the aviation roadmap under President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration, would create about 70,000 jobs for Nigerians, noting that this was higher than the total number of federal civil servants in the country.
Sirika said the national carrier was supposed to have kicked off in 2021 but was delayed because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
He, however, said that for obvious reasons, the ministry now has access to equipment and deliveries of the aircraft would be faster and rates might be cheaper. https://businessday.ng/aviation/article/fg-in-talks-with-boeing-airbus-over-nigeria-air/

Travel › Nigeria Air Applies For Air Transport License by PDPGuy(op): 10:29pm On Mar 28, 2022*. Modified: 11:41pm On Mar 28, 2022 |
Nigeria Air Limited, the country’s proposed national carrier, says it has applied to the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) for a licence to operate scheduled and non-scheduled passenger and cargo services.
The company said this in a public notice as part of the requirements for granting an Air Operating Licence.
The notice stated that any person or organisation with objection should make it known before 28 days expire.
“This is to inform the general public that Messrs Nigeria Air Limited has applied to the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) for the grant of an Air Transport License (ATL) to operate scheduled and non-scheduled passenger and cargo services within and outside Nigeria,” the notice reads.
“Any person or organisation that has an objection or representation with regards to this application should do so within 28 days from the date of this application.
“Such objection or representation should be forwarded to:
The Director-General Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport Domestic Wing Abuja.”
Nigeria Air further listed its three-member board of directors/ trustees, namely Alexander Musa Adeyemi, Mohammed Shuaibu Naibi and Mohammed Rabiu Shehu.
Checks by TheCable showed that the company, Nigeria Air Limited, registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) since July 18th, 2018.
Earlier this month, the federal government asked private sector partners to submit proposals for the takeover of the national carrier.
“To this end, the FGN, through the federal ministry of aviation, is inviting interested private parties to submit proposals for the take-over and further development of the National Carrier, the recently launched ‘Nigeria Air’ to take advantage of the opportunities of the largest market in Africa,” according to a statement from the ministry. https://www.thecable.ng/nigeria-air-applies-for-air-transport-licence
