raumdeuter: If a parent commits a crime, they separate the child from the parent. E.g If a parent is driving drunk with a child or steals, they take the parent to jail and separate the child. So what is the big issue about it?
If the child is too young to stay alone and ant t stay with the parent then it becomes their choice t leave with the child if the parent is deported, the child can always come back and he/she has a right to stay. The child is not getting deported, the parent is and the child chose to go with the parent.
What is a better option for a child of a criminal who is to be deported? Note the child is not a criminal and has rights to stay in the country
I hear you.
As you said, the child won’t get deported. So what I believe what Trump would do is that he would eventually create a pathway for parents of US citizen children to attain legal status without deportation. Even Trump surrogates have said they would, for now, prioritize deportation of illegal immigrants that have criminal records (either from another country or the U.S.)
Moreover, Trump, knowing that he only has 4 more years and no prospect of another term after 2029, wouldn’t mind cutting deals with Democrats on immigration and some other issues. He would, in the interest of the majority of Republicans in Congress who are moderates, and a likely Democratic House, want to concentrate on the specifics of immigration reform that a large swath of both parties and independents agree on.
IjeBos: They will have to revamp the whole immigration system first to even make it workable. Especially Asylum. But with the Supreme Court in the hands of Republicans, I'm sure they'll find a rational to bypass the Asylum laws if challenged.
But, that's just one of the many problems. There are so many jobs that undocumented immigrants fill that would cause ripples through the economy. Least being inflation. I watch people harvesting crops and am always amazed at how hard they work to meet their quotas.
Going to enjoy watching the Trump supporters in this thread rationalizing all to come.
Your point on the illegal immigrants doing a particular type of job is very poignant. To be honest, there are not many Americans that would be willing to pick oranges for $1 per hour or $1 per day. Or maybe big agriculture would replace the illegal immigrant workers with robots, who knows🤷🏾
I perfectly understand the rationale behind deporting undocumented migrants who have a criminal record. In fact, most Americans (including Democrats) would support that. However, the situation becomes tricky if a Trump administration goes ahead to deport U.S. citizens, who are kids, alongside their parent(s) who are undocumented. The Trump administration would likely face legal challenges if they go ahead to deport U.S. citizens
Konkoja: Exactly what Trump was looking for and it's been handed to him.
Yeah But it remains to be seen if DA Fanny Willis in Fulton county, GA would continue her case against Trump. I bet there will be a lot of pressure on her to “in the interest of peace and conciliation” discontinue the case.
Moreover, the other factor to consider is Judge Merchan’s sentencing of Trump later this month. I highly doubt he would sentence Trump to prison though.
Per DOJ policy that prohibits the prosecution of a sitting president, it is expected that Special Counsel Jack Smith would withdraw the federal criminal cases against Trump, and his office would be winding down operations as from January 20..
So, in theory and practice, the only on-going criminal matter against Trump, as from January, could be the Fulton county, Georgia, election interference case against him
Interestingly, White women with a bachelor’s degree broke for Harris by 20% points, while White women without college degrees broke for Trump by 25% points…
Roland17: We don enter line! Omo if you see queue! I thought waiting late will ease the line but it looks worse than the morning. This thing stretch enter main road, they had to close one side of the road for safety. Also, the number of women in line, especially young and middle aged women is scary! Omo!!!
You see ba, the next time Nigeria somehow ends up being led by a nationalist who does the things needed to move the country forward, and then you people start doing that adversarial NGO/CSO/media thing that you used to frustrate Goodluck Jonathan and empower Muhammadu Tooth Picker and his Drug Lord successor, I swear on my dad's grave, instead of watching you people destroy the prospects of another generation of Nigerians with your conditional bravery that only activates when it is convenient, na me go dey snitch on una make government dey disappear una one by one.
I'm not joking.
Because now that a hostile civic space is needed more than ever, see as everyone is just accepting the boot on their neck passively. Nobody has anything to say anymore! Once upon a time, some people went to the extent of digging up Goodluck Jonathan's PhD. thesis and accusing him of using a ghostwriter, all in the name of "holding power accountable." Now the current president parades a forged degree certificate and is an actual blue collar drug criminal wey use deal avoid sanko - nobody has anything to say except it's about Peter Obi's random comment on a podcast!
Bianca wasn’t clearly properly guided before marrying a way older dude. Thats a bane of Igbo land: the parents of the lady don’t care if she married a guy 30 yrs older than her, so long as the dude is “established”
