Tid bits..

- D’Tigress would qualify for back to back Olympic tournaments for the first time ever.

- A female coach would have qualified the team to the Olympics for the first time…

- Moreover, since October 2, 2015 D’Tigress have won ALL competitive games against African opposition 🤯

MSGAMBLE9:
The difference between both slow starters is that we (NG) tend to sit out some quarters like we don't care e.g. our last match vs US, the 1th quarter we won by 22-11 only to sleep through 2nd quarter and wake again in 3rd only to sleep through the last 5 mins of the 4th...

The concentration level for NG always ebbs and flow buh the Americans just loves beastmode rallying it's almost their itinerary.
You’re spot on!
If the U.S. has a bad 1st quarter, that is it. They will come at you in the remaining 3 quarters as though you stole their property 🤣
SportsRe: Basketball: D'Tigress On The Brink Of Olympic Qualification, Beat Senegal by PDPGuy: 12:19am On Feb 09, 2024
Throwback:
This must be a new pattern of having global qualifiers instead of continental qualifiers.

The demerit is that all the African teams can be eliminated even before making it to the Olympics proper.
Actually, this format guarantees that at least one African team would qualify for the Olympics, because the U.S. have already qualified for the Olympics by virtue of being world champions.
So, the next two teams in the group would also qualify, meaning that two of Nigeria, Belgium, or Senegal would pick the two remaining Olympic tickets

Rubbish. This people just want to make football too robotic for us like as if we are engineering students. So what's the difference between this one and red card if someone gets it in the 85th minute? We are already complaining of var, hot offside rules and women referees in men's matches this ones want to bring another one. Is it a must we must have the same officiating like all those basketball, hockey and rugby?
Blue card kor recharge card ni.
Your last line though 🤣🤣
But I agree with your points. It’s like IFAB are bored with the uniqueness of football. Smh

Our ladies would have to put in a 150% shift in order to not be hammered by the Americans.

IFAB has approved the trial of “Blue cards” as part of the overall sin-bin trials.
Here, a player would be shown a blue card for committing a “cynical” foul and/or dissenting with the referee. The blue card trial would be initially limited to non top-flight leagues…

Personally, I don’t like this idea. IFAB should leave the present yellow and red card system alone because they’re fine the way they are now.

... Senegal is not beating the US or Belgium, they know it,hence they wanted the win so bad... Belgium with all the momentum at the moment against the U.S, although,it is still 1st qtr.
Yes, I get your point about the Senegalese not winning the other two games. But what I’m saying is that the improvement is needed so that, even if D’Tigress lose to the U.S. and Belgium, those losses would be single-digit losses which could also boost the confidence of the team as they head into the Olympics

I applaud the ladies for the hard-fought win!

But they have to improve their overall defensive game for tomorrow’s match and the one on Sunday v Belgium; otherwise the Points Difference may become our downfall

Peseiro is now the first foreign coach since Bonfrere Jo, in 2000, to lead Naija to the AFCON finals

Nigeria have now won 3 successive AFCON penalty shootouts, a run that started in 2006 (v. Tunisia), 2010 (v. Zambia), and now 2024 (v. South Africa)

European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga)Re: Official Chelsea Fan Thread: Club World Cup Champions 2025-2029 by PDPGuy: 9:21pm On Feb 07, 2024
Nwabali is the first Africa-based goalkeeper to lead Nigeria to an AFCON final since Emmanuel Okala did so in 1984

Jose Peseiro becomes the first foreign coach to lead Nigeria to the AFCON final in 24 years, since Dutchman Bonfrere Jo achieved the same feat in 2000.

Since being eliminated on penalty shootouts by Tunisia at the 2004 AFCON, Nigeria have now prevailed in their 3 successive shootouts in the competition. The SE eliminated Tunisia at the 2006 quarterfinals; eliminated Zambia at the 2010 semifinal; and now eliminated South Africa at the 2024 semifinals.

Problem however is that we don't have the same squad and the USA has a better squad than 4 years ago. Not expectant though I hope someone like Amy balls out so she can get in the radar of WNBA teams.
Yeah
It’s gonna be an uphill battle for sure. I’m sure Amy would want to put on a show against US, so I won’t expect her to be slacking in that game

I think Dtigress can beat Belgium and Senegal. And give the Americans a tough game. It is all about FOCUS and TACTICS.
You’re spot on with your last sentence. I recall that D’Tigress were 5 mins away from recording a famous win over the U.S. 4 years ago(in fact that game was tied with 2 mins to go), but their slightly superior talent prevailed.
So the key to being competitive against the U.S., on Friday, would be to keep it tight at the back and attack with precision

Their training camp roster was already indicative of the kind of squad they are bringing. This again brings to the fore why Arike Ogunbowale isn't considering switching allegiances. It's obvious she won't make the Olympics team seeing she didn't even make the qualifying round. A'ja Wilson and Chelsea Gray were excused cause A'ja had prior commitments and Cheltis nursing an injury. These players both have a sure slot for Paris. Really can't see how Arike makes the team cause she's a liability defensively (even though she improved on it last season).
She should keep ignoring Nigeria till it’s too late… For the past 4 years or thereabout, a national team has been inviting you to countless training camps, but has never selected you for a major tournament, yet you’re still nursing a false hope.

I think it’s a misplaced priority for LASG to be thinking of setting up an airline at this time, considering the FOREX issues bedeviling Naija.

Whatever equity that LASG would want to invest in that venture would be better off channeled towards maintaining/improving public infrastructure, or even bonuses to its civil servants..
