Peter Obi speaking on Arise TV exclusive interview this morning stated that he was never offered the vice presidential ticket and he rejected. He said this when asked why he now feels too big to be Atiku’s running mate after they ran on a joint ticket in 2019.

I remember when some Atiku supporters were taunting Obi that if he doesn’t accept the VP ticket quickly, Amaechi or Makinde would take it.

Now, Obi has moved on and they have Amaechi as VP candidate but they have realized that they have no pathway.

Tinubu has lost the bulk of his Northern muslim votes and is trying to gain the Northern Christian votes. Atiku has lost some ground in the South, but he has gained far more in the North from people who previously voted Tinubu. What about Obi? A United Opposition Coalition was the best chance for Obi and the Southeast to put a foot in the corridor of power. That was what Tinubu and the Southwest did in 2015. Not as many people that voted Obi in 2023 will be motivated to vote for him again in 2027 if they do not see a clear pathway to victory for him. Humans are mostly transactional in nature, and many people are cheap. Tinubu understands this.

You guys are constantly asking us to talk to Peter Obi but when are you guys ever going to talk to talk to Atiku?

You guys expected Peter Obi to team up with Atiku in 2023 to retain power in the north after Buhari’s 8 years?

And now, after just 4 years of a southerner, why can’t Atiku abide by the national consensus and support Obi to serve just one term and then support him in 2031?

Is Atiku’s umbilical cord buried in Aso Rock? Or he simply can’t do away with his born-to-rule mentality?

And talking about Obi gaining new ground, Obi has gained Kano. All things being equal, the votes Obi will get in Kano alone is enough to cancel out all the votes Tinubu and Atiku will score in Southeast and Southsouth combined.

And if Obi’s participation ends up helping Tinubu win again then so be it.

If Atiku can’t help Obi then Obi can’t help Atiku.

Southeast will be fine no matter who is president. Can the north say the same?
