AMINDA: Lol. Tinubu scored 8m+ votes in 2023, and 5.6m votes out of these was from the North. The North came through and repaid him for a previous support in 2015. The South didn't vote for Tinubu. It's on record that Northern governors championed his re-election against all odds. Tinubu didn't even campaign in the East. Where then is all that talk about checkmating the North coming from? Obi should step aside and support Tinubu if the goal is really to checkmate the North. Otherwise, he will only be complicating Tinubu's chances by balkanising the Southern votes, thereby making Tinubu even more reliant on Northern votes, just like in 2023. Politics is not an emotional sport, and facts are sacred. Every political cycle, every other region horsetrades, strike unemotional deals, and leave with concessions for their region, except one. They claim to be unbothered and try to make up for it with pyrrhic victories and other mundane things like claims of ethnic superiority but still cry about marginalisation. If you now claim to support Tinubu, it's because you've been conquered and have surrendered and not because you think your votes can now make him win. Tinubu himself knows it and he already proved he can win without your votes. The North is hardly ever out of power. Not now (a Northerner is V.P), not in 2027 and certainly not in 2031. Just different power blocs. In the end, ensure you're negotiating something for your region beyond emotions. Lessons. Lol! So what you could deduce from this piece is that I now support Tinubu? |

Iceberg3: You are very correct about this... If there's one thing I like about the Tinubu,it is his taming of the north and putting them in their place, one thing GEJ couldn't and didn't do. I have been advocating for the entire south and the good people of the middle belt to rally round Tinubu and support him...to support him if he chooses to contest 2027..
But penguin2,the problem ain't the Igbos, the problem is the ways of your fellow yorubas who have become abominable southerners. The yorubas stake holders have one way or the other chosen to be enemies to other southerners... I mean, why do we log on here and everyday, you see the likes of Helinues legendhero mccullum goodnewsforlife spagettiluv ttalk flokii (especially this one) hotfreeze yarimo raskymonojendor yorubanibaba hitlerwasright muchado FreeStuffsNG seunmsg adolfhitlerxxx maasoap (this one seems to have been touched that he now attacks Tinubu 😁) and lots lots more attack the Igbos, attack abia state and gov....they even the attack to that south African girl who abandoned the beauty pageant cos they saw chidinma on her name! I read when one was fooling himself to a south African lady and the SA lady told him that there ain't Nigerian embassy for Igbo or yoruba or Hausa but a Nigerian embassy for ALL NIGERIANS! Very shameful. The recent protest was staged by northerners who are very disgruntled with tinubu's govt and sowore and the Igbos kept themselves out of it but these same yoruba people still went ahead and tried in vain to heap the blame on the Igbos! Seunmsg did so on here! Same with Helinues.
In the south west,Lagos for example, the Igbos are mainly into petty and other forms of trading but when you go to the fed govt agencies like the NPA,CUSTOMS,NNPC,DPR,PPPRA,PPPMC,NIMASA,...the bulk of the work force are quota system Hausa Fulanis! I know this cos I'm a seaman. But yet, yoruba people will still not leave the Igbos alone. The north is rattled so much right now and are seriously planning against tinubu and we in the south should be making plans too but the only plans being made is yorubas planning "Igbos must go".
It would be disastrous if for any reason, the north get their hands on power again,it will be very disastrous for us all and make no mistakes,I am not Igbo Who told you I’m Yoruba?🤔 |

Peter Obi should be focusing on how to checkmate his own party crisis first before trying to checkmate the North. All this talk about helping or not helping is just noise.
The North is not the problem here; it’s his inability to hold a party together that’s the real issue. If he spent half the energy he uses in making noise on actually uniting his followers, maybe we would have seen some real progress.
Instead, what we see is a man who jumps from one party to another like a kid in a candy store, thinking he can still be taken seriously.
At this point, na him dey checkmate himself, and it's clear he’s only helping his own downfall. Atiku has jumped to another party before Peter Obi. What do you have to say? |

If the bitter truth that power is not served on a platter upsets you, then it can't be helped. You can continue to take solace in the fact that you have "my people" (very funny) as gatemen. Tinubu schemed to be Vice to Buhari in 2015. He didn't succeed but ended up nominating the VP. He's now president today in 2023. If that's tantamount to bending the knee for power, I guess he didn't mind. The end justifies the means. These things aren't taught in schools, and no one is prepared to go into the gutters with you. The bitter truth is that politically, the North does not have its eggs in one basket. Tinubu won his election with 5.6m Northern votes out of his total 8m votes. The North made him President but it was a debt repaid and Northerners always pay their debts, good or bad. ALWAYS! Now we are even. No long talks… You guys made Tinubu president with your 5.6million votes, right? Now, switch that vote for Peter Obi or give it back to Tinubu to continue another 4 years. I read the thread "Temporary Suspending My Support For This Government".... in which helinues made a funny announcement of "temporarily" burying his/her evil past....
Since 2015, you supported all evil policies of APC, Buhari and Tinubu leading to the destruction of so many lives in Nigeria.... Now you find it convenient to "temporarily" jump ship? I told you on several threads that you will be the one wailing over Tinubu before he leaves power.... I told you that you will not escape the consequences of his evil government as it will eventually consume you.... now the chickens have finally come home to roost! Your senses seem to have been restored, it is now functional to realize that human life been wasted daily over Tinubu's willful incompetence should mean something....
To all other yoruba tribal champions on Nairaland actively supporting Tinubu and his evil government, let helinues ordeal and action serve as a pointer that nothing good comes from supporting evil, promoting hateful tribalism or praising bad governance.... If you do not change your ways, you will not also escape whatever evil consequencies that may arise from your actions. What happened to helinues will happen to you as well until you openly confess on Nairaland and renounce your evil deeds just like he/her did....

franchasng: The greatest political mistake Peter Obi will ever make is not aligning with Atiku and the coalition party.
Nigeria is not an ideal nation where doing the right thing works. Nigeria is a country where doing the wrong thing brings you the expected result.
Peter Obi must swallow his Presidential ambition and align with Atiku and the opposition coalition party to give Tinubu a run.
Nigeria's federal politics is for winner takes it all as proven to us by Buhari and Tinubu, and it doesn't matte how you get to the Presidency.
Tinubu knew Buhari was the worst choice but he led Yorubas to align with Buhari and the North in order to oust Jonathan and to fulfill his Presidential ambition and also fulfill Yoruba people's ambition to grab power for their regional development.
We Igbos must learn from them since they always mock us that we don't know how to play politics of building bridge. We must not always want to do the right thing because doing the right things in Nigeria has never helped the Igbos politically in Nigeria so let us do what others always do.
I still believe that Peter Obi won 2023 Presidential election and they failed to declare him winner, so Peter Obi contesting again this time against a politically ruthless incumbent President will be a waste of time because even if he wins landslide, he won't be declared winner by INEC just like 2023, so for the sake of the Igbos who have suffered enough in the hands of APC, Tinubu and his people, Peter Obi must join Atiku and the coalition party to make a strong attempt to defeat Tinubu if not, we Igbos will never forgive him.
For now, we don't care who will be better President between Tinubu and Atiku because it's even obvious that Atiku will make a better President than Tinubu, at least Atiku won't be as nepotistic and bias against Igbos like Tinubu and his government plus APC. See, I get your point. But will the thumbs of northerners fall off from their hands if they thumbprint for Peter Obi? Must it always be their brother that they will vote? What is the guarantee that the vultures around Atiku will let Obi succeed him in 2034? |

Why not show Obi's antecedents on all these metrics you highlighted above during his sojourn as Anambra state governor? Zoning was a PDP arrangement. It is not an ADC arrangement, the party has thrown its ticket open. It's a coalition. Feel free to follow Obi to the ZLP. Aregbesola is building his party in the SW. Amaechi is doing same in his constituency. Atiku, Elrufai, Malami, etc are doing the same in their regions. Obi is demanding for the party ticket. Jokes. Lol! You know why ADC has lost momentum and traction? Because Obi has not joined. You know, Atiku knows, Aregbesola knows, Amaechi knows, and Nigerians know that the only person who can give life to the ADC thing is Peter Obi. But you can decide to continue to lie to yourself. |

AMINDA: Oga, there's no free ticket in the ADC. Feel free to vote Tinubu or, better still, let Obi go to ZLP. It is also strategic for him to contest independently. Obi is even yet to join the ADC formally even though he has said severally that he's with the coalition. Obi doesn't deserve the ticket more than an Amaechi, for instance, who's willing to contest the party primaries. Give it a rest. The Southeast cannot propel themselves into power without playing the long game. Tinubu did the same after several years in opposition and was even scheming to become a Vice to Buhari in 2015 but for muslim-muslim. He ended up nominating a VP and today, he's president and a Northerner is his Vice with power set to return back to the North in 2027 or 2031. That's politics but you can choose not to play. The ball is in your court. Obi is not an angel. There are no angels in politics but Nigerians deserve the barest minimum, nonetheless and he's still better than most, but certainly not the best. Why are you triggered by my admonition that we should not repeat our 2015 mistake? Has anybody ever doubted Atiku’s capacity to win primaries? No. But our contention is does he have the capacity to be a complete departure from what we currently have with Tinubu? Will an Atiku government stop corruption? Stop government waste? Reform our elections? Etc etc. If your answer to the above questions is yes, then show us Atiku’s antecedent that points to him possessing those capabilities. And lastly, when would Atiku ever respect the zoning that he and his cronies used as the excuse to defect from PDP into APC in 2015? When? |

Politics › 2027 Coalition: Do You Remember “Anything But Jonathan”? by Penguin2(op): 8:56am On Dec 06, 2025 |
That men do not learn from history is the greatest lesson of history.
The above is one of my favorite quotes of all time.
But I used to think that quote was referring to a distant history, I never knew some section of Nigerians would forget something as recent as 2015.
I just saw a post where a social media commentator suggested that anyone who refuses to join the ADC coalition against Tinubu is automatically working for Tinubu.
We don’t need to think too much to know that he is referring to Peter Obi.
But is Peter Obi wrong in his stance?
In 2015, we had a Jonathan who was growing our economy at the rate of 7.1%. Nigeria was the third fastest growing economy in the world. Our elections were beginning to look sane where votes counted. Every ministry and sector was manned by a cerebral appointee who knew what s/he was doing.
Then came the APC. They demonized Jonathan and told us that economy growing at 7.1% is useless because it’s only on paper because it doesn’t impact the common man. They promised us change and swore they would defeat the beast called insurgency.
To do this, they resurrected a relic called Buhari who had told the world he was retiring from politics, and whose first sojourn into our national life as Head of State was a disaster coupled with several allegations of human rights violations and ethnic and religious bigotry and fundamentalism.
But APC swore he was now a “reformed democrat”. They even dressed him in suit for the cameras (that was the last time).
Majority of Nigerians fell for it and voted Buhari because the mantra was “anything but Jonathan”.
I’m sure by “anything”, Nigerians were ready to vote for even a stone as president or even the devil.
Well, we all lived to see the result of the choice we made in 2015 and everybody agrees it was a disaster. Today Jonathan is worshipped as a hero, not because he called Buhari to concede but because Nigerians have realized how stupid they were to have swallowed APC’s propaganda and voted him out.
Now, after Buhari’s 8 years of backwardness, he passed the torch to his ally, Tinubu, who has proven to be even a more disastrous disaster.
Then, as the 2027 elections approach, people like Henry Shield want us to repeat our “anything but Jonathan” mistake in 2015 by chanting “anything but Tinubu” and then rallying round an Atiku to succeed Tinubu just so Tinubu is out of power.
But is that the only choice left for us?
From his antecedents, how is an Atiku better than a Tinubu? Or he, like 2015 Buhari, is now a reformed incorruptible saint who will no longer sell national assets to his cronies?
Like seriously, what do we stand to gain differently from an Atiku presidency if not the perpetuity of northern hegemony and born-to-rule mentality which Tinubu is ferociously degrading and they are looking for an escape route?
In a nutshell, my point is that we have all Tinubu must go because although he has gotten it right with the economy through fuel subsidy removal, unification of exchange rate and the tax law, government excessive spending still pervades. Insecurity has worsened. He is borrowing away our future and that of our children. Our elections have become a joke. And he has preferred to enable touts, like Okpebholo, to power rather than sane minds who would work for the people.
But if we must replace Tinubu, who we are replacing him with must be very important lest “we go into the hands of those whose curative hands are deadlier than our current disease” like Wole Soyinka put it in his 2015 article against Buhari candidacy.
Atiku is not our only option going into 2027. And if our mistake of 2015 has taught us any lesson, then we must not allow another chant of “anything but Tinubu” lead us into another disaster.
It’s better we suffer another 4 years of Tinubu than give a whole new 8 years mandate to someone with no clear difference with Tinubu.
Penguin is a bird of reason!

Henry Shield should call Peter Obi by name because we all know he has him in mind while making those posts.
But is Peter Obi wrong for not joining the coalition?
Remember how “anything but Jonathan” brought about Buhari and stagnated our nation for 8 years. It’s not even stagnation, we went several years backwards.
Now, you don’t want us to learn from history and repeat the same thing?
We all agree that Tinubu must go but it’s pertinent that we get his replacement right.
How is Atiku different from Tinubu, how?
Add that to the fact that it’s still the turn of the south and the south must finish her 8 years.
We should stop letting these northerners use our heads every election cycle.
Tinubu is breaking the northern establishment and their born-to-rule mentality. Give power to Atiku in 2027 and you would have saved them from this oblivion they are about to travel to and they will come back to become even more ferocious than ever.
So, if the north wants Tinubu to go, let them support Peter Obi or let Tinubu finish his 8 years.

Truths9ja: we love Omisore, but he's coming out at the wrong time to contest the governorship election here. Osun west senatorial district must finished their 8 years tenure. Adeleke that's there is only completing his 4 years tenure. So an APC candidate will finished the next 4 years, also the APC candidate will come from Osun west senatorial district where Adeleke jailed from. Omisore coming out wrongly, he should wait for another 4 years. I get it. But all these politicians always tend to suspend reason and logic when it comes to things like this except when it favours them. |

Truths9ja: it can never happen under Tinubu leadership. Omisore should forget the governorship seat here. But why don’t you guys like him though? |
