miss_bola: @ pen might. funny u said that cos my husband for the 3 ramadan gone, he travel to nigeria BUT this time around I made him wait here. so this is why he travels to nigeria so that he can avoid the long waiting time.....wait till he comes home now...
he lied to me, he said he goes to nigeria during ramadan cos he can focus and not look at naked womem here on the street.
Haba! So ,now someone is threatning house arrest.

I don't think he is guilty of anything. Technically, he is just stylishly migrating from one of Allah's Land to one of another Allah's Land.

Allah says" Travel through the land..." It is only convenient for him to obey that obligation in Ramadhan.

siddiq202: ^ I learnt that Denmark will be fasting for about 22 hours per day just like they did last year. Which means they have two hours for mogrib, iftar, ishai, taraweeh, tahjud and sahur. Hehehe should they also apply for tourist visa too?

May Allah make it easy for all of us
Yes! My brother. Infact, this is the time to do complete Hijrah to Nigeria.

For me, my stomach can survive in Denmark. 22 what?

@bolded, your thoughts are noble but I am afraid you are entering "danger zone" with it. Many have tried to end our feuds (they are very plentiful), they failed O. Even we have tried to end it (to no avail). I have never experienced anything like it before(a fight that never ends).

So my brother, you can pray that we should stop clashing, that might prove beneficial. grin

#Seriously

The Qur'an heals all ailment. There is no danger zone much more than what transpired between the companions and between them and the Prophet and between the Prophet and wives at times.

A whole Surah( Hujurat) was revealed to settle disputes like this.

You both need to be admonished while hoping that Allaah, who has the hearts of His slaves between His two fingers can decide to turn it to wherever He wishes.

My honourable brother and my beloved and noble sister, pls take heed.

Allah says-
" Perhaps Allaah will make friendship between you and those whom you hold as enemies. And Allaah has power (over all things),and Allaah is Oft-Forgiving,Most Merciful." Q 60 vs 7

miss_bola: Wa alaykum salam. I won't be able to start 2moro but i hope to start on Friday insha Allah. I know for those days i miss I have to make it up after ramadan.

In london here, the fajr is 3.00am till 9.20pm, so it's a long fasting day but insha Allah I will survive. lol

3.00 am to 9.20pm? My stomach o! I would bearly be able to talk.
My advice- maybe you can use this ramadhan to travel to Nigeria and see your relatives and observe your fast here.

Without looking at the moon or consulting any imam or even sultan and regardless of whether Maclatunji consented or Deols disagree, I can assure you you will gain at least 5 hours of extra meal.

May Allaah ease your task though.

@ Maclatunji and Sis Deols-

Ramadhan is here-- a month of brotherliness and reconciliation.

"The believers are nothing else than brothers. So make reconciliation between your brothers, and fear Allah, that you may receive mercy.
O ye who believe! Let not a group scoff at another,it may be that the latter are better than the former;....." Q 49 vs 10-11.

I commend Maclatunji for his sublime position on this. You can't discard a knowledge based posture that is enshrined deeply in the deep waters of the Minhaj of the Salafs.

Hmn... Sister Deols position,no doubt, has a backing traceable to our history as muslims. I fervently believe with slight modification, u are a go with Mac.

Tbaba ,as usual, brings a whole lot to us. Perhaps I can say he is at the center of harmonizing our thoughts. Zaadaka ALlaahu harsan.

To all of us remaining, we are one. Starting fasting on tuesday or wednesday is too frail to come between us. All we all seek is Allaah's pleasure. We shall be rewarded according with our strivings. May Allaah increase us all in beneficial knowledge!

If nothing, I believe our seeming 'iktilaf' proves that Islam is not for dogmas. It has shown that our knowledge awareness is getting higher. This is awesome.

We are getting there Ma sha Allaah. Let's unite.

Allaah says- " And hold on(all of you) unto the Rope of Allaah and do not be divided.

Ramadhan Sae'ed to all of us.

deols:

You know, there was a time We, my family used to follow the North/sultan and majority of the other people in Ibadan would follow the Imam.

It was always awkward eating all about while the whole of Ibadan was still fasting.

When I learnt of the great scholar's position which I have learnt to be the position of the ahlus Sunnah wal Jama'a, I didnt even think twice before I accepted it to be right and tried to inform every other person, especially the ones I care about, about it.

The hikmah behind it is sooo glaring.

Allah forgive us all.

You are right. We all did that in rebellion even to our parents just cos we want to follow Saudi. The Committee for Islamic Rulings in Saudi actually came out to condemn this.

They held that the student in USA and Canada should base their fasting on their localties.

My sister, I ve stooped worrying myself with such issues like this.

Utmhan( R.A) behind behind Ibn Abbass who prayed full while in sham(not too sure). He was asked why four raqahs as against the 2 raqah shortened prayer.

He answered" that is not enough to cause dissension".

The religion is not strigent. Very flexible when knowledge based.

And Allah knows best!

Many local authorities chose tomorrow to start without any regard to the Sunnah of the Prophet (SAW). I have to eat but there is a clear explanation of my position here (Moonsighting for Ramadan http://www.coolstuff49ja.com/2013/07/moonsighting-for-ramadan.html?m=1 )

Imams can be wrong. All too often regarding this matter in Nigeria , they are.
The Nigerian factor is pathetic to say the least.
If the imams in such localty commences fasting by believing Shahaban is 30 today, sincerely I might say he might not be held liable. It is a case of two judges- One does Ijthihad and is right,he gets 2 rewards. The other does ijthihad and is wrong,he gets 1 reward for the striving based on truth.

However, its appalling that the case of most of our imams is not like this. They are perpetually incurable of "that is the way our fore-fathers did it" syndrome. This is wrong.

I was in Ibadan during the weekend. All of us see how cloudy the sky got. I learnt its been rainy throughout the south-west today.

Even in abuja, we nearly combined magrib and ishai cos of hazy weather.

I sincerely doubt the moon can be sighted in such circumstances.

And Allaah knows best.

Are you a scholar?

There is a big problem with some people thinking they are wiser than others.

Even at the time of the prophet, there are reported instances of people starting on different days and even the Prophet(S.A.W) didnt talk arrogantly about anyone deceiving themselves.

I am holding on to ur opinion on this. I quite agree with this precise summary.
This affair is clear and we shouldn't bother ourselves by imposing a burden that was not even exterminated by the Best of generations.

"Fasting is when people fast and breaking is when people breaks". This gives us the right to follow our rightly choosen leaders.

It is the practice of the Sahaba to sight the moon THEN MAKE IT KNOWN TO THE AMIR-UL-MUMEEN.

Whoever sights the moon should make effort at contacting their imams and the imams, the Amir.

However IF A TRUSTWORTHY IMAM CONFIRMS OR VERIFIES THE SIGHTING,FASTING SHOULD COMMENCE IN THAT LOCALTY WITHOUT DELAY.

Imams that commences fasting or prays taraaweeh based on calender or calculations should not be followed.

ALLAH IS THE SOURCE OF TAWFEEQ!

Kx: Let's stop dis free advert for shoprite.
Just a little research will prove dat shoprite is not as cheap as we all assumed.
My example is funny but it is absolutely true.
Infants blue packaged crackers biscuit is N10 aboki price; same is sold for N15 in shoprite.
If it is so for a mere N10 item, imagine how it could be for significant and more costly goods.
Mc'Vites biscuit(kid's verson) is rare in my neighbourhood and ,when available, its sold for 3 for N50 by De Joe. In shoprite, it is sold N15 each, with branded packaging bags and an environment that makes you forget your worries momentarily.

U think u are spending less but by the time u get to POS things, u will ve to ransack ur car's compartment to balance off.

Successful people don't do different things separately, they do separate things diffently"---- My accountant friend used to saying that a lot!

lauyan Abuja: Shoprite must go! Ever since they came around our hOod in Abuja they have killed all the small scale business and prevented the intending business entities from coming to life!!

Your opinion about shoprite in abuja is prejudiced or ,at best, subjective. It is not provable that the existence of shoprite in Abuja or elsewhere in Nigeria is inimical to emergence or growth of small scall biz.
In as much as I am against foreign invasion of our indigenious market,it is only factual that ,if shoprite fufill that tax obligations, her existence is more of plus than negative.

Shoprite in abuja is remotely too located to have been a potential threat to the existence of the retail markets in Wuse and Garki who are closer to consumers.

I was in Shoprite few days back and I bought a plastic coca-cola product for N84.99k. That was the lowest ever. I can't phantom the reason behind this. I guess is work ethics as someone commented earlier.

My kids schools' snacks are cheaper 20km away from my home than at my neighbourhood mart. South-africa will not smell in their feaces ,so I don't give a damn.

On the same day, I bought electonics at LG outlet in Shoprite and it was even cheaper than what is obtainable from LG's other showroom outside the premises. This bewilders too!

Interestingly, I am even prepared to pay more in shoprite if need be. Check out the ambience!
Architects, infact most people, like cozy and serene atmosphere to transact.
What of the covenience- I get most of all I need at a glance. That has its own price too comparatively. I guess it is not afterall about the price alone. Packaging matters.

Summarily, the ineptitude in our National lives,someone-else-will-do-it syndrome, lack of ingenuity, make-it-fast attitude and lack of strict biz ethics are some of our short-falls. We are all in these together!

Our loss,their gains! Painfully though.

Islam for Muslims / Re: Boy Or Girl Child, Which Is Better? - An Islamic Perspective by PENMIGHT(m): 4:50pm On Jul 05, 2013
deols: You made an absolute statement with a DO NOT.

My problem is with the do not.The donts in Islam are haram and should not be done or may even be a sin if done.

You can suggest or make it known that you think..

But telling people to not do something must go beyond saying, because a prayer in the qur'an doesnt include asking for a gender.

I must have read of or learnt of a hadith of a prophet warning against making what Allah hasnt made haram, haram.

and again, everything is allowed until there is a RULING making it haram. You havent provided a ruling.

Let me give an example to buttress my point.

Allah asks us to pray Tahajjud in the QURAN. and that doesn't even make tahajjud a command. He asks women to breastfeed until 2years and not breastfeeding until then, is not haram.

He asks that you pray for children who are... doesnt mean you CANNOT or should not pray for children of a specific gender. He is Allah and you can ask him For ANYTHING.

I am outrightly with Deols on this, the fact that Tbaba's explanation is textually robust not-withstanding.

I am sure Tbaba is not negating your stand on permisibility of being specific on your need. Though I also had a problem with the DO NOT but from a bird's eye view I believe his submission should be comprehended from the historical point of view of the Jahiliyah omen attached with the gender.

I think ALL of us are on the same page on this! Allaahu a'alam.

Musa( peace on him) was with khidri when the latter slaughtered a boy! Why wasn't the boy spared to continue the lineage of his parents.

Also khidri saw a fence and bent down to mend the falling wall! Was his unsolicited help not towards the girl orphans who had a future to protect?

The Prophet had male and female children, which one inherited him save Fatima(R.A). Which of his children is as popular has Fatima(R.A).

How many of us know that Abu Bakr(R.A) had other children besides Aisha(R.A).A quick text-pls name the brothers of Aisha(R.A).

Apart from Abu Hurairah(R.A) who dedicated his life entirely to leaving in the mosque, who else narrated most hadith save Aisha(R.A).

The first to believe was a woman.
The first to divide her property with the prophet was a woman.
When the Meccans victimised the prophet,it was a woman that gave him shelter.

The first martyr in Islam was a woman.

Is HE that create out of nothingness not able to create out of something?
Is the creation in the Intestine as hard for Him that create without a father or creation from a crooked rib? Praises be His above what human associate with Him!

Politics / Re: Senators Fight Over State Of Nation Address by PENMIGHT(m): 11:39pm On Jul 03, 2013
There should be right to dissenting views. All senators should be accorded the right to free expression of thoughts without fear or hood-winking. From reports, its obvious few elements in the hallowed chamber loyal to the President are bent on 'swaying' the voices of the majority.

In such situations like this people will rather defend their honour by loosing their head than been cowarded by their sell-out colleagues.
It's an anomaly to wish to surplant the voices of the majority in a democracy. Anarchy will definite loom when will change the rule midway down the game.

Those who make peaceful resolutions unachievable makes violence inevitable.
