spyder880: Thank you Checkitout, Pen Might, emperor, Fhemmmy, olubuffett, segcy moore and ashaju33. Great points there.

We pumped the water out of the foundation.
Glad u took care of the water earnestly! That is a relief of a sort. Our reinforcements are ready to go too. Good progress there!

At this juncture, I feel obliged to pray that you will grow in strength in good time so that you can procure some simple machinery and tools that will make your work simpler and reduce your overhead costs. I sincerely wish this for u.

With a good truck for conveyance, some regular necessities like Storage tanks,Pumping machines,Concrete mixer,Poker,V-ibrator and even Props,Scalffold and metal plates will seriously reduce the burden on you and help facilitate more patronage for low-cost constructions like this.

I can imagine the stress and loss incured in getting some of these things repeatedly everytime and anywhere you get project.

Your concrete work(even as small as blinding) gets better when machine-mixed. But I can't possibly be expect you to be hiring it with a cost of(I guess) 20k/day. For blinding you hire, for casting the startes bars, oversite concrete, lintels, floor slabs, beams you keep hiring. That's a real lot of money that could have been saved.

With time and definitely with hardwork like this and Utmostly with God,all things are possible.

When man pikin dey struggle now, people no see am,when money comes friends go come boku. Life!

Wishing you the best.....in the jungle.

spyder880: foundation filled
Kudos to you for the achievement so far. It is no mean feat to get to this stage in few days knowing fully well how hard to get started and how difficult full mobilization of skilled and unskilled men might be in a terrain one is not that familiar with. It only shows u re the Master. Well done!

However, I ve some reservations. Here they are;

" Foundation Depth to be determined on site by Structural Engineer". How often do we adhere to this design rule? How does this affect this project at hand?

I stand to be corrected, but giving oga spyder statement, he would have commenced blinding if not for the groundwater and heavy water-logged trenches". But judging by the pix, it's obvious the excavated material looks too soft to have been dug out from a firm strata deep enough to withstand both the dead and live loads in the building.

Is this how PH land is? And does this guarantee safe construction that will stand text of time?

And the 3 trips of sand? Are they truly sharp sand? Are they truly coarse for good concrete mix? If that is what is readily available in PH, how does that affect your concrete ratio mix?

Why not consider stone dust( that is if needed and worthwhile)

And u said the client approved ' 1 plank reinforced concrete '? Is that a raft foundation or what or just foundation footing? Any structural Engineer on site or remote helping with these decisions?

There is always this clause in BOQ-" SITE TREATMENT- Application of Anti-termite solutions. How relevant is this to any project and any plan that this will be done before blinding ?

All said with a view of benefitting from your immense site knowledge.

Like always....wishing u d very very best!

Car Talk / Re: Make A Call While Driving And Be Jailed - FRSC Warns by PENMIGHT(m): 11:44pm On Jun 28, 2013
SAFETY FIRST!
Placing calls while driving is just shear risk and an avoidable one. You are the caller so u should be in control of the best time and place to make the call without putting the life of all road users to jeopardy. The best- reach ur destinations before making calls or make the calls before setting out. The exception is the emergency time and in that case I think our lifes worth it to get to the nearest lay-by, park properly then place the calls. If a call is genuinely urgently to be made, that makes it even more important to quit driving at that time cos all ur vital senses of awareness is re-routed to the urgent need. Better late than never!

Receiving Calls- The caller at the other end is oblivious of the fact that you are driving, so the onus is morally on the receiver to safeguard his life first before anything else.
Worst case scenarios- u missed the call. Getting to a place of safety shouldn't be too long to endure so as to provide an enabling avenue to pick the emergency calls or dial the missed call back.

Our lives are sacred and should me guided preciously especially on the Nigerian types of roads!

Amazing! I ve perused through the posts and I can see that the learned ones have spoken, albeit professionally. Few ones too, though might not have a direct authority in the built environment, have helped to set values for post construction evaluations. The eyes are passionately watching!
But let's leave all matter of distractions like wood et all so as to focus on the project at hand.

Certainly,we have not been furnished with enough information to conclude on this project's feasibility or otherwise.

TIME,COST and QUALITY are variables that can only be ascertained to be OK only when interpreted alongside the Project Documents( drawings, specifications)

A 5 bedroom duplex does not necessarily mean 'a mansion'. A 3 Bedroom detached Bungalow might actually be more luxurious than a portable duplex. The designs(architectural, structural and services) make d whole lot of difference here!

Being a duplex necessarily doesn't meant the First Floor slab spans all through the entire building.
There might actually be a 'big' void somewhere. Just saying! I believe the 8.8m is a fair deal if it is not another Asari Dokubo's PH mansion!

Project Duration -60 days. That isn't too short. I'm sure the versatile spyder will multi-task. The major challenge is allowing the curing of first floor concrete which ordinarily should take 24 days but usually not observed. Before the stage,no resting. The critical path sets in here.

SAFETY FIRST- There is no challenge in such a time-conscious work more than ensuring structural safety.
@ Oga Spyder, pls just get the optimum ( not lowest pls) cost on your concrete works and you would ve been a success we always known u for.

U re inspirational. Wish u the best and good profit....

Maybe these reports are just figment of hallucinations of a drunkard. They might even be bad-belle wolf-criers. Or maybe they are just a colony of attention-seeking jobless politicians masquerading as reporters. Who cares?

But do we truly need to castigate the sources of this news when the content and the disorderliness in PDP is glaring even for the blind to see? No objective-minded person will crucify a dirty messenger for delivering a message whose darkness is as bright as d day.

A communique has not been issued yet by PDP to suggest these were all fabrications . And as at the last check, PDP has not come out to categorically make clear its position on the NGF nightmare bedevilling its midst and breaking its rank.

For PDP, Sahara reports or not, its is a water-loo in the offing.

Judging by settings in these pics, one can probably conclude that the room in which they had the meeting is not bigger than the size of a classroom or a small office suite in a shopping mall.

If perchance Mr Peter Obi wants to visit the gents, at least 6 other seats must be vacated before he has an unhindered passage.

Coming back to his seat ,they must file out again for him to gain access.

Except unless they will just hang their for him to visit the gents and quickly come back before they assume their seats back.

But wait a minute!, what if he spent as long as President Jonathan spent to pee at the AU summit? That would be bad cos Gov. Jang will fear another gov has defected.

Why are they having the meeting in a hole?

Muslims on Nairaland are scarttered all over Nigeria and beyond, so it won't be ease having all around for a get-together or dinner as the OP put it. But with this initiative, wherever u are, whoever u are, whatever your income is, you are definitely a game for this.

Our wealth is truly what we spent on lawful cause like this, what we leave behind after our sojourn on earth here is the property of our heirs.

Politics / Re: Opposition Lawmakers Hail Ajimobi's Achievements by PENMIGHT(m): 11:35pm On Jun 14, 2013
I see the vote of confidence as a true representation of the state of affairs in Oyo State. I believe money is not everything and hence it will be unfair to label such moral voices as wolves or traitors just cos they are not playing politics of bitterness.
Must there be a price on saying the truth always? How many will collect ghana-must-go and still backstab the gov?

And by the way,it is a better business for the opposition in Oyo state to condemn the gov than lauding him cos the accord party(ladoja) and PDP(akala) in Oyo state are working together to wrestle power from ACN and the PDP will stop at nothing to fund Ladoja and any other opposition voice.

We should credit the brave legislatures. The Gov shouldn't be carried away, IN IBADAN 2 YEARS IS TOO LONG A TIME FOR THE TALKING DRUM TO CHANGE ITS MELODY. In Oyo,their song is "keep on dancing, you are on your own....'

Politics / Re: Shout-out To "Civilian JTF" In Borno by PENMIGHT(m): 11:02pm On Jun 13, 2013
The Military JTF cannot win d war without d help of the locals. Infact, they can't win the war without the help of some boko haram guys in their custody; the Taliban/Afghan conflict as a reference.

This is a welcomed relief from the sahel and a sign of support for the effort at bringing the insurgence to a decisive end.

Lesson- Contrary to widespread speculations that Boko Haram speaks for the generality of the North, if nothing, the evolving of the youth whose land has been desecrated for years by their brother invaders and whose future has been rendered bleak therefrom, to join in d struggle is a vindication of the fact that the BH are just 'a few bad eggs'.

Long live the brave youths!!!
