I am not a lawyer but it seems Rotary Int has some culpability in what transpired and Mr Okonkwo should vigorously work that angle.

International philantropic organizations should not allow themselves to be used to launder filth and become a reason for known fiends they choose to elevate to brutalize law-abiding citizens.

My dear friend u got it all wrong. Akpomeme is an alias for Reno Omokri. He is a top shot media executive and a highly intelligent preacher on special order from America to help launder GEJ and family's image on new media (read Nairaland). He is on a mission to give a squeaky clean image to Patiience and also teach Nigerians how to think for good measure.

Its a top dollar job. If my post hints of resentment to this arrangement its for good reason. In Nigeria there is no job- even for writers. We are all here sitting bf the internet while the money he makes goes to feed his family in America.

But his strategy is flawed for the following reasons

1. He is more concerned about foreigners' (esp the west) impression of his paymasters on this forum than Nigerians by whose patience and goodwill GEJ remains in Aso rock. He attempts to reduce the overwhelming dislike and distaste of Nigerians towards this govt to Southwest politics. Majority of SE, SS posters on NL live in Lagos.

2. He keeps choosing the wrong enemy (whether Tam David West or WS) and the wrong fight. In particular. Wole Soyinka in life or death is a Nigerian icon. He perfected the art of using shocking expressions in the media to draw attention to his cause. Sometimes people do not understand his grammer and they just ignore him but our top shot special assistant is drawing attention to everything the prof says which means more heap of red hot coal coming on your paymasters in the weeks ahead.

3. A lack of credibility. Our special asst makes a bonfire and attempt to cause distraction at d same time and thread by instigating ethnic discord. Worse still his castigation of another Icon (Awo) may be seen as an unstated view of Jonathan thereby alienating at least a third of Nigeria's population.

Its the big bribes that we should be mentioning here.

Bribe has neither big nor small to it. The corporal who insist on delaying you unnecessarily on the road because of N200 will demand for 100mil if he was priviledged to occupy a certain position in customs. Its all about the criminal sale of priviledge and not the amount that changed hand.

I run a business where my professional judgement is of some value. Yes, sometimes people try to influence that judgement. So far, no one has succeeded probably bc offers have not been good enough (certainly not bc I am a saint).

However, I give bribe (kola, inducement, call it what you may) as a matter of course. It may be considered arrogant when it is expected of you and u refuse to do 'the right thing'. I generally like to 'respect my self'. The financial cost to me has already been passed on to my client anyway. This is not a good time to be a hero in Nigeria. I try to make my kid brother understand this whenever he is home on vacation from the UK.

White peeps do this kind of thing all the time which is understandable considering that their prison is better than most of our Nigerian university hostels (with free motel-quality food). This is a first (as far as I know) for someone who has been in a Nigerian jail. I think the man is involved in something fishy in that prison that ought to be investigated before he is properly released.
