FamilyRe: Nigerian Killed By A Lorry After Storming Out Of Car During Row With Wife In UK by Pennywise(m): 1:09am On Nov 29, 2013
I wonder why it is that our women are usually well behaved in Nigeria but the moment they set foot on UK or US soil, esp the later they become uncontrollable.

This particular woman is so selfish she wont allow her husband have d benefit of security he needs for a 12day trip. What happens if he ran out of cash in Nigeria? Approach a family member for a hand-down? Haha.
Jobs/VacanciesRe: Dissecting The Negative Effects Of Casualisation, Outsourcing. by Pennywise(m):
How can people be complaining about casualization in a country where true unemployment is in the neighborhood of 90%.

Half bread is better than no bread. A good policy of govt will fail if implemented at a wrong time. Companies, local and foreign should be encouraged through lax labor laws until the country reaches a reasonable level of commerce and industry before the govt intervenes with operational labor laws.

Otherwise these industries will simply move across the border and be exporter goods into Nigeria. Then, there will be no jobs let alone casualization.
Christianity EtcRe: Pictures Of People At Miracle-Healing River In Enugu by Pennywise(m): 1:25pm On Nov 27, 2013
The ecosystem of that environment was completely normal, stable and unpertubed until someone sold the people a lie. Like all things based on falsehood, this wont last. In another few years all this will be history. Those who lost money with other opportunity costs are left to their misfortune until someone else comes with another falsehood. Which makes me wonder, where else in the world outside Africa can this happen?

yorke1: Ameachi is going to regret this! ganging up with the Northerner to unseat your brother. They have ruled for so many years with nothing to show for it. And you believe Buhari to perform magic now, wake up Ameachi the dreamer! Tinubu and Buhari only need your money for the forthcoming election. be wise!
I am completely apolitical but I have no problem identifying a stewpeed comment when I see one. What have you, a southerner to show for the rudderless, confused government of Jonathan save for endless financial scandal with overwhelming theft of public funds never witnessed in the history of this country.

Great police work. Unfortunately, this lad will get no more than 20yrs most likely 12-15yrs. When he gets out, he will still be strong and pose a threat to society which is why I love Texas.
EducationRe: All ASUU Strike News::1st July-16th December 2013 by Pennywise(m): 4:18pm On Nov 24, 2013
If Jonathan is serious about his call for a reform of labour laws including that establishing ASUU, he will not dignify this body of rascals with another meeting. He should ignore them. But then again, the president is clueless. He should not cause problems for the next government by making promises that cannot be fulfilled. SSANU and NASU have expressed willingness to proceed on their own strike if they are not accommodated.

EducationRe: When President Jonathan Was A Lecturer... by Pennywise(m): 5:05pm On Nov 10, 2013
Nwa Teacher: He was one of the best lecturer we had in the zoological dept then. He lectured me PSY 400, Animal Physiology then in 1997 and supervised my project work then. He was a very good man in Uniport then
Jonathan never said he lectured at uniport in his CV. Even though you have been on NL since 2011, all your posts tend to be of the money-making kind. Are you seeking patronage from sincere nigerian? You want to join the 40-man lap top crew?

I have seen quite a few Nigerian presidents and leaders in my young age- northerners and southerners alike. Their honesty and probity have all been questioned but never has the intelligence, sanity and competence been called to question the way this president's is being questioned.

None of them expended any where near the kind of resources this govt spends on the media and 'new media' to launder the image of the president and his wife.

Goodluck Jonathan came to power by divine providence. He was never supposed to be president. Historically, we have had very little expectations of perfomance of any new Nigerian president. That 'little' has now turned to zero. More importantly the casual manner this president is handling issues of corruption and massive theft of public funds shows he has very little regard for the Nigerian people, the House of Assembly and even the military. His attitude towards these scandals some of which threaten the integrity of the Nigerian state is to maintain silence and wait for it to dissipate from public consciousness. But that is a flawed logic because it never really does. It only sinks deeper to reinforce the perception of the people that Jonathan is an incompetent f00l. Only he can change this perception not these paid hands on NL and twitter. And the moment that happens, he will see how gladly Nigerians will warm up to him.
RomanceRe: Ugly Girls Have Better Guys, WHY? by Pennywise(m): 3:02pm On Nov 10, 2013
When an ugly girl pulls a fine guy you know the guy is either a broke a.r.s-e or a dumb dude. There is usually a compensation. If the guy is broke, the moment he chances on money, that is the end of the relationship or the girl becomes a sympathy girlfriend or wife.

Or could there be some kind of hidden/clandestine message involved in this ad? I mean people have bought vehicles to find stash of hard currencies even drugs in unlikely places.
PoliticsRe: Oduah’s Airport Upgrade And Rehabilitation Is A Scam by Pennywise(m): 11:54am On Nov 06, 2013
The Jonathan Government has to be the most lawless and corrupt this country has ever seen. Every single case of multi-billion naira act of corruption always appear to lead directly to Goodluck Jonathan from Diezani Madueke and now a Stella Oduah. The naira is losing value daily, the economy is in shambles, students cannot go to school. For how long can this continue?

Rather than show remorse for her shameful act, Oduah is hiring students at N4000/head to protest for her in Enugu and now these shameless, faceless poorly educated goons on NL trying to launder her image for whom exactly, I dont know. It cant be for Jonathan because he is the puppeteer. Everyone else knows Oduah is a thief. This attempt at a forced image laundry for her therefore is futile. Take the money, say whatever your limited knowledge of the English language will allow you on this forum, but pray that neither you nor your family member will perish in the next plane crash as a direct result of Stella Oduah's theft of public funds.
PoliticsRe: Melaye Re-arrested Over Oduah's N225M Car Scam by Pennywise(m): 6:07am On Nov 05, 2013
Divine providence or Good luck can make a man president but the problem is that you still need common sense to rule.

The Oduah gate and how it was handled is an indictment on the National Assembly (of sleaze). What more do they need to pass a vote of no confidence on this govt that tacitly aid and abett corruption? The night time thief is now the one persecuting the victim in the day time. How does a reasonable president tolerate and accept this and so many malfeasance emanating from his cabinet.

HealthRe: Life After A CS Delivery Is So Challenging? by Pennywise(m): 6:16pm On Oct 26, 2013
flashylady: I had an episiotomy in my first delivery. It was hell o. I tut cs was evn beta. Now I know beta.
CS, the way it is done today in Nigeria is actually quite safe and simple. A lot of people will be horrified reading this thread. It is certainly not the case. The most difficult period is the first 24hrs. But with appropriate spacing of narcotic painkillers, even that is readily manageable. 2nd 24hrs much better than the first. By the 3rd day most would have had bowel motions and are walking around free of urinary aid (catheter). Pain is largely insignificant even without analgesia at this stage. A woman (no matter how cringy) shouldnt have pain worthy of her attention 5 days after surgery in the absence of complication like wound sepsis.

On the other hand a doctor is limited in his ability to manage labor pains because of concerns for the fetus so she has to go through hours of agonizing pains that might still end up in CS. Make no mistake, a normal labor is still an 'hours long' traumatic experience for the fetus to which it may succumb. In a CS procedure, baby is out in 10mins. OK, previous CS with bad adhesions add another 10mins. Outcome is more certain than normal labor for mother and baby even in Nigeria. The caregiver and facility has to be abysmally poor to have the kind of disaster you read about in the papers but that is not a true reflection of the standard of care in Nigeria.

If you think your private hospital doctor is trying to railroad you into getting one that you dont need, it is free in most govt hospitals these days. Go there. Do not risk losing your life or that of your unborn child when you dont need to.

Someone tried to draw a line between a GP and an obstetrician when discussing CS. A bad doctor is a bad doctor obstetrician or not. The procedure is not high tech. Not IVF. It does require a good understanding of medicine and skill. Infact I dont think the 5yrs spent in residency gives sufficient mastery of all that is required to have a consistently good result considering that not more than 18mths of that is spent in an 'independent' decision making capacity as a senior registrar. The GP has probably had experience that is more than 10times that which translates to better result and patient confidence. Even in a teaching hospital setting some obstetricians are known to have better results than others.

CrimeRe: HIV-Positive Doctor Molests Patient In Benue by Pennywise(m): 5:28pm On Oct 24, 2013
It is not likely he acted on account of his status (be it fetish or malicious). That state is known to have a high prevalence of HIV anyway. I think this happened because he thought he could do it and get away with it. And there is no way this would be his first time. Most rape victims are too embarrassed to talk about it.

I hope he chose his victim with care because some family members will be waiting for him to get out of prison before they exact their own pound of flesh.

RomanceRe: Sex On The First Date by Pennywise(m):
There is no lesson to teach today's Nigerian girl about dating and s/ex. She knows its not about when u 'give in' whether its first date or the 20th that a guy will have a worthy opinion of you.

They like to feign chastity, play hard to get while the money and the goodies roll in. Bc they believe in their small greedy head that when the relationship attains a cruising altitude they are not likely going to get more. Some are so well versed in this game its incredible. They keep the guy on a leach never quite letting go until the guy realize and ask 'what the fvck' is going on?
HealthRe: Surgery Done With a 'rechargeable lamp' In Nigeria... by Pennywise(m): 12:21pm On Oct 17, 2013
fsb: Unfortunately, too many Nigerians don't analyze issues to a depth they deserve but are passive thinkers and they end up with twisted views and opinions after several issues of national interest.
This is a familiar argument that is unfair to Nigerians. If a position does not stand the test of a simple logic and commonsense, it should be condemned irrespective of the depth you take it. As a public servant who has decided to embark on strike (which ought to be a last resort) to address your grievances, you are duty bound to make the reasons known. It is for this reason (among others) doctors keep losing the PR war with govt whenever they go on strike.

fsb: Now people are lamenting, when doctors go on strike everybody calls them 'HEARTLESS'. This is just a tip of the iceberg, at
These are the realities on ground. Doctors are clamoring not for higher salaries but for more government funding for postgraduate (residency) positions, better training, better working conditions, etc Ultimately, all this doesn't translate to a better existence for the doctor but better healthcare for the system. If you don't support their cause, you or someone you know may suffer from the collapse of the system.
You may wish to correct this bc I cant recall when higher salaries was not at the core of a strike called by doctors. No one has said there is anything wrong with a justifiable increase in remuneration. The problem with it is that their action is myopic. I will explain. Doctors are educated people. Nigeria is a third world country with all the problems of govt in the third world especially corruption. Not long ago our lawmakers decided to distinguish themselves in global infamy by awarding themselves stupendous pay packages. This has led to over-the-top govt spending, pressure on the naira with even more inflation. Whatever raise you get will be wiped out by inflation. Doctors like ASUU saw no reason to call for civil disobedience or a strike.

There are other contentious issues like the headship of govt hospitals that is causing so much acrimony and friction. A situation where you have rotation of the headship of Govt hospitals every other year among doctors is laughable and primitive. Is hospital administration in the curricilum at the post graduate college? In which civilized country is this acceptable practice? Certainly not the US or the UK we strive to model clinical delivery after. The result is that there is no sustainable plan. Yes the egos of doctors get a good massage but how does that help the system with respect to service and even accountability. Hospital administration is a course. Any one who desire it should get trained in it. Everything is wrong with entrusting a young man/woman who just left specialist training with a 2billion naira institution when he never managed 5million naira in his life. If this is the depth of issue you talked about then your case is 'dead on arrival'.

oyinmama: I will take the 'girl' bit as a compliment smiley. Let me give you that assignment of finding out what phones we used back then......how old were you in 2003?
Thanks for sharing ur experience even though too much energy was expended addressing problems of NL homegrown weeds -always stubborn and unyielding. Supposedly knowledgeable docs in their haste to condemn Nig doctors are ignorant of the fact that there are ways to stop operational bleeding besides diathermy.

Our doctors should be judged on competence and quality of care. U can not live in Lagos, pay Lagos rates and expect to have a Mayo Clinic theater with all accourtrements. But u can hold your doctor to task if that surgery doesnt go well. As far as I know no Nig doctor has attempted to explain away his incompetence on account of an unsteady power supply that has been with us forever.
