BusinessRe: Ask Me Anything On Importation Of Goods From China by perfectgen(m): 1:20pm On Dec 16, 2013
How much does it take to travel to China and where do they apply for the visa. Likewise, considering the language barrier, what are the chances of a English speaking guy to get good purchases from there; particularly electronics?
PoliticsI Weep For My Country by perfectgen(op): 9:04am On Dec 11, 2013
When Nguigi wa Thiong'o wrote the book "Weep not Child", he had no premonition of what would become of my beloved country; Nigeria. I reflected on the happenings of the past few days after the death of Mandela and I keep on asking myself the question: is it because Madiba went to jail for twenty seven years that he is being celebrated all over the world?
If I am right, the question to that question should be "NO" because many other people have been to jail with nothing to show for it after their release. In Madiba's case, the legacy he left can be traced to the post-apartheid South Africa; he brought everybody together and ensured South Africa is a connoisseur to behold. My country has been liberated since 1960 yet we still live in a self-made jail of our politicians; the economy is nothing to write home about, corruption, strikes and joblessness is the order of the day.
I make bold to say that if Madiba has been grossly inefficient and corrupt like most of our leaders in Nigeria, nobody would be celebrating him today which is food for thought for our leaders. On death, it wouldn't be the two-faced supporters who can never tell our leaders the truth that would bear the grunt of your legacies but the whole people. Nations now deride in making us look like outcasts because of the failure of our government. I have one word for our leaders; enjoy yourself as much as you can today, but know definitely that posterity would never forgive you for what you could have done which you didn't do.
On the alternative, I am optimistic that we can still make Nigeria a better place if we chose to make things right. One Nigeria, Great People!

PoliticsRe: Open Letter To The Tribalistic Fool by perfectgen(op): 3:21pm On Oct 27, 2013
@kofoshi, I agree with you that I should embrace globalism rather than Nationalism but as they say charity begins at home. I cannot run to Ghana or South Africa now to claim to be one of them even though we are all Africans but wherever I chose to go in Nigeria, I should be welcome if tribalism isn't the order of the day. If our government officials are answerable to us since we are the ones who voted them into power and provide the basic necessities of life, I bet that we would stop running away from Nigeria and we would earn the respect of the other African countries. The only way we can make the government answerable to us is if we all with one voice confront corruption in government with no thought for whose ox is gored.

@DerideGull, I really weep for people like you, you feel it sucks to be a Nigerian. I know you would rather be from another nation but wake up, you are still a Nigerian and while you are at it, if you don't stand up for what is right irrespective of your tribe, you will end up being treated as lower citizens wherever you run to. The reason so many people are travelling out is because the government of those countries have made sufficient plans for their citizens. Would it be too much to ask from our own government too to put some important amenities in place rather than robbing us blind while we keep on supporting them because they are our kinsmen?
PoliticsRe: Open Letter To The Tribalistic Fool by perfectgen(op): 2:59pm On Oct 27, 2013
@oil_suop, I really appreciate your thought about we the Yorubas being accommodating, but sincerely, won't you be so enthralled if you visit Nnewi, Oron, Jalingo, Jos, Bauchi, Gombe, Imo etc. and you receive the same level of hospitality you enjoy at home? That is the essence of this thread; let us drop tribalism and accept one another as brothers and sisters so that we can collectively face the issue on ground; those milking our economy dry without any thought of our future.
PoliticsRe: Open Letter To The Tribalistic Fool by perfectgen(op): 2:55pm On Oct 27, 2013
@voltron, I understand your outburst due to our government's failing but don't get it wrong; it isn't a Lagos thing, it is a Nigerian thing. You complained about agberos leeching the tax-paying non-Lagosians day in day out but is that not the case for we the tax-paying Lagosians too? My point is that wherever wrongdoings are observed, we should be open-minded in criticizing the situation and not the tribe affected with the positive attitude of someone who wants things to change generally rather than someone who would justify his/her criticism under tribalistic views. These people we keep supporting as our tribesmen are planning for their generations while we continue being tribalistic.
PoliticsRe: Open Letter To The Tribalistic Fool by perfectgen(op): 2:44pm On Oct 27, 2013
@kofoshi, I am glad to hear that your tribesmen are doing well for your community in terms of leadership and I wish them well, continue encouraging them but if I may appeal to you, never judge any other person's leader because of their tribe but principally based on their deeds. That way, you can jointly help in seeing a better Nigeria; which by the way is all you have. No tribe is all-in-all, we depend on one another for our livelihood.
@oil_suop, I admit that we love tribalism in Nigeria and as you mentioned "Yorubas love tribalism" but if I may deem it fit to say, you are wrong. We as individuals choose what we believe and how we act; it is the individual and not the Yoruba that loves tribalism. Anybody who chooses to be tribalistic does so based on personal inclination and not because his tribe is known for that. Is there any tribe in Nigeria that is not known for hardwork? People chose to be hard working just as others chose to be tribalistic. Tribalism card has been played by our leaders all along with us being the ones to suffer for it; I advise we become wiser and face the issue on ground; it isn't a tribe that is robing us of the joys of good governance but individuals
PoliticsRe: Open Letter To The Tribalistic Fool by perfectgen(op): 2:19pm On Oct 27, 2013
@kofoshi, I would only reply you because I need to make some things straight; Alimosho LGA is the most populated LGA in Lagos state and has always had the Aworis as the first settlers which makes it a Yoruba community. For your loyalty to your tribe before country, that is your choice to make but I will ask you only one question: Can your tribesmen in government guarantee you the future you crave for and the kind of direction that is emulative of leadership? If not, then, you are one of those who are not helping the situation of Nigeria by supporting mediocrity.
PoliticsRe: Open Letter To The Tribalistic Fool by perfectgen(op): 1:59pm On Oct 27, 2013
@seanet01, you actually made me laugh because it is evident you have a myopic view about issues that can better your life. The person who would make Nigeria better doesn't have to come from your tribe and if the person who is not letting us make headway in Nigeria happens to come from my tribe, I will never pledge my loyalty to him/her because I want the best for my generation.
@azeezhy, when I said we should comment based on facts and expectations, I know what I meant. For your information, I am a Lagosian from the same Alimosho LGA and I am surprised that my mention of the govt. not providing a good bridge for the inhabitants of that community and being justified by our state minister for works and infrastructure is being treated by you as a tribal issue. Is it the place of common people to start levying one another tolls for a wooden bridge that the govt. should have provided or are you telling me that because you are not affected, you don't feel the plight of those people? If it were in the North or East, would it be justifiable for criticism? That is what I am driving at; the government has failed us and I don't care where it is happening (North, South, East or West), I will never treat it as a tribal issue and I thought with the level of your education, you should likewise strive for accountability rather than foolhardy criticism of tribes.
PoliticsRe: Open Letter To The Tribalistic Fool by perfectgen(op): 12:15pm On Oct 27, 2013
@chieflowo, thank you for your candid response but have you observed that whenever we are playing football, we all accept ourselves as Nigerians? that means we are doing what I call switching whenever it pleases us. When we want to befuddle our fellow men, we play the card of tribalism so as not to get to the root of the issue; It is a choice. I choose to base my arguments and statements on fact and expectations and not on tribalism, which isn't too much to ask from the so called educated.
@gurnam, it is not today that people have been stealing money from the coffers of government but if I and you join hands together with other credible people as one Nigerian to ask how our money is being spent, Nigeria will surely be a better place to live in.
PoliticsRe: Open Letter To The Tribalistic Fool by perfectgen(op): 11:46am On Oct 27, 2013
@ ifee-gee and andresia, thanks for reading and I wish that every tribalist on Nairaland gets the message that we should stop fighting ourselves but should rather fight the bad leaders who are milking our economy dry.
@emperorchedda, I beg to disagree that Hausas have the tendency for committing terror acts; are al-qaeda or al-shabaab members Hausas or have you never met a peaceful Hausa person? I believe we all have the choice of choosing to be what we want to be. In my opinion, any Yoruba, Ibo or Hausa person that has strong tribalistic sentiments may also have the tendencies for acts of terror which is why I am begging that we stop tribalism.
PoliticsOpen Letter To The Tribalistic Fool by perfectgen(op): 10:54am On Oct 27, 2013
Oh great Nigeria, the land of the strong and erudite scholars, what has become of thee?
Our parents pool their meager resources together, just to ensure we get educated; in the hope that we would be able to better our lives over time. We claim to be graduates and educated elites yet our so called ''education'' is that of the pariah who knows it all and would not give in to other people's school of thought.
Tribalism has eaten deep into our roots that we now don't even see things from the angle of the educated but basically as an insult on our tribe.
We all learnt that Stella Oduah used "our hard-earned money" to beef up her personal security; which isn't a wrong thing on its own merit, but at what cost? We fight ourselves daily online and continue the divide known as Nigeria by claiming we are either from the North, West, East or the South.
Just today, I read that in Lagos state, people now pay tolls on wooden bridge, whose structural design can never stand the test of time with the State Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, supporting the concept under the auspices of "private initiative". My questions to him is who controls the excesses of this self-made government (toll collectors) and which law confers the right on them to tax their fellow free men?
However, that is not the crux of the issue; the issue lies with us. We have let the government play hide and seek with our destinies; we can't boast of good roads, good education, social amenities; even a job after the so called "education" yet we come here to support them just because they are from our tribe.
I bet our generation would never forgive us because when we should have taken the bull by the horn, all we did was play lip service. How many of us can boast of the assurance of a better Nigeria, when all we have are corrupt leaders?
I appeal to you, the so called elite who reasons not with his/her emotions but with his/her brain to stop tribalism and fight for what is right. The Westerner shouldn't support a Yoruba man that has done wrong, likewise should the Easterner never support an Ibo person who has not shown good leadership examples. We should come together as one Nigeria to make our leaders accountable to us; irrespective of being our kinsmen so that we can have that future we crave for.
To you who chooses to still comment based on tribalistic sentiments, I have no other word for you than to tell you that your education was a waste and you will always end up a tribalist.

I guess the approach I would take would be to answer the question in as many ways as possible and state the assumptions taken. I believe what they were trying to infer is that there is no clear cut method to solving a problem; you may get different solutions but that does not mean you are wrong as far as you know what you intended to get before you started and importantly knowing the basis under which your solution holds.

I will advise you learn microsoft-excel which would help you work on spreadsheets, microsoft-powerpoint; which gives you better packaging ideas of how to run slide shows and presentations, microsoft-access; which can go deeper into database management, corel-draw which if you know sufficiently will put money in your pocket for graphics work done by people.
The rest such as microsoft-word and mavis beacon are important but can be easily picked up. Your being able to type and edit posts in this forum gives me the impression that Ms-word wont be hard for you and you can install mavis beacon to learn how to use it.

Importantly get a PC or else you would forget what you were taught and would have to start all over again

In my opinion, I feel it is a scam cos I have been involved in 1 before but let me ask you 2 gud questions; did you apply for the job and wrote a test and interview? if you did, take my advise. Call the number of the recruiters and tell them you dont have the HSE document now but you plan on having it before the end of the training as that should be wen it would be really needed; the odds are they will tell you to contact someone who will tell you to pay an amount into an a/c. Once this happens, run cos it is a scam; there is no job opening. But if they are for real, start the training and contact me back, I can tell you of firms who I know run genuine HSE training which however you know at that time is needed rather than spending your hard earned cash on a scam.

Jobs/VacanciesThread For Addax Petroleum Scholars by perfectgen(op): 12:59pm On Jan 06, 2013
This is a thread for Addax Petroleum Undergraduate Scholars.
First and foremost, congratulations but i feel we should clarify some issues which i feel some of you people can help give answers to.
1. Does Addax give any consideration to scholars during employment oppurtunities?
2. Is there any medium through which scholars can communicate with the company?
3. Is there the likelihood of a scholar getting an internship position within the company?
4. Since it seems we don't hear from the company once we are awarded the scholarship, is it probable to say that the company does not do the background checks and confirmation of our academic standings?
5. When is the payment for the 2011/2012 academic session going to commence?

Let us keep the light burning and make the best of opportunities that come our ways.
CareerThe Fallacy Of Unemployment by perfectgen(op): 12:23pm On Dec 10, 2012
I weep for this country; the majority of our educated youths are unemployed. Having gone through the hardship of academic stress in our tertiary institutions, we can not but wait for that day when our hardwork would pay off. Unfortunately, we are now out of school and still awaiting that day when we would be gainfully employed. We are yet to stop depending on our parent's benevolence; not because we are not trying to get a job but because the employers wouldn't employ us. The painful part is atimes, we are so sure we did wonderfully well during the interview yet we never get the offer. Sometimes, the employers promise to get back to us, but if we wait for eternity, we still wouldn't get called. Based on all these unwholesome events, we tend to begin to believe that we are actually unemployable. I have only six things to tell you about the lies they tell us.
1. They say majority of us are unemployable just to cover up for the fact that they never wanted to employ us in the first place. It is just a case of calling the dog a bad name just to hang it.
2. They demand from us what they themselves do not have or how can we explain employers asking for a number of professional affiliations and certifications which the employer apparently does not have.
3. They ask you to cheapen yourself by trying to underpay you or in the case of the ladies, make you go the long mile, only for them to later come and say you are not qualified.
4. They use recruiting firms to employ you and in that process would set questions most of them cannot confidently answer well just for them to make majority of the applicants fail.
5. They make us apply for job openings that they have either filled up or have people they want to give these slots.
6. More than 75% of applicants for any job opening would end up not getting the job because there are limited openings but it is in less than 10% of Nigeria job openings that applicants are selected on merit.
In conclusion, do not be deceived, you are not the problem, work harder on becoming better, gain new skills and don't ever give up; you will get your own job.
RomanceRe: I Feel Like Walking Away After A Month Of My Introduction Need Ur Advice by perfectgen(m): 4:13pm On Jun 17, 2011
Too bad, you cant walk away anymore cos she is pregnant and as aresponsible guy, u shouldnt think of abortion. Why not sit her down and encourage her to talk about her fears and also let her know u knew all those customers and yet didnt ask anyone of them to marry you so she should learn to trust you.
Let her know her behavior is killing the relationship and she still has the option of not getting married to you if she doent want to while u both agree on the care of the baby.
Importantly, when she is calm, let her know ur dos and donts so that it doesnt occur anymore and please try to be considerate of her feeling, ask her for what she also doesnt want in the marriag, if u people can agree, then go ahead and marry her but if otherwise, dont marry now, take your time so that in less than a year you wont be divorced.
