Osaze Odemwingie was sent home from training this morning, after yesterday’s dramatic turn of events, when he appeared to try and force a move to Queens Park Rangers. “I had a long chat with Dan and I have been given a few days off. I will be back for training next week,” Odemwingie said. The Nigerian striker also went ahead to blame West Brom for the failed transfer, claiming that it was all agreed but the Baggies could not get in a replacement for him. “It takes more than two or three people to create something extraordinary,” Odemwingie told Sky Sports News. “Clearly, there were no children involved and somewhere there was a big misunderstanding. “I have learned that the role of the technical director is not superior to the chairman. As far as I am concerned, it takes two hours to drive to London and I had to be there as we were 90% there and the deal did not happen because of a player West Brom was expecting. “Our technical director is way too good to make that mistake and not get a replacement for me. His last words to me were: ‘Sorry, Peter, we did not get the replacement’. But I do not think that was what did not make this transfer happen.” Odemwingie also confirmed that he was not given permission to speak with QPR, but he drove all the way to West London, because in England, gentlemen understand themselves. He said: “They did not give me permission but in England and when you are gentlemen, you understand each other.” QPR manager Harry Redknapp, who tried to make the deal possible, empathised with the 31-year-old’s situation and revealed the deal stalled, because one of his players refused to go in the opposite direction. “I was just disappointed with the Odemwingie situation,” he said. “I was disappointed for the boy. It was a bit of a mess. I felt genuinely sorry for him. He travelled down and I think he thought the deal was done and that’s why he turned up. “He thought that he’d have a medical and get the forms signed. It was just a mistake. He’s now got to go back to West Brom and get on with his life. He’s not a bad lad. That was what disturbed me last night. “He felt the done was done. I think the deal wouldn’t have been a problem – it was just a player was going to go the other way on loan and decided he didn’t want to go. “Peter Odemwingie was a player we’d been trying to sign for several weeks and I think the player thought the deal was done. He wanted to be on the premises to get the deal done. Unfortunately he turned up on the premises and the cameras were there… he wasn’t the only player who turned up yesterday and didn’t get the deal done. I just hope the boy’s going to be okay because he is a good person.” http://dailypost.com.ng/2013/02/01/west-brom-send-odemwingie-home-from-training-striker-blames-club-for-transfer-mess/ |

Each Super Eagles player will receive $15,000 (about N2.4m) if the team beats Cote d’Ivoire and qualifies for the semi-final of the 2013 AFCON on Sunday. A top Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) official disclosed each player will be $20,000 richer if the team triumphs in the semi-final. For victory in the championship game on February 10 inside the National Stadium in Johannesburg, each player will pocket another $30,000. Each player received $30,000 a day after the team qualified for the quarterfinal on Tuesday. Team sponsor Guinness has also made a financial commitment for goals scored at the AFCON, while the Eagles are expecting billionaire Aliko Dangote to splash more cash after they reached the last eight. Each player was paid about $80,000 when Nigeria finished third at the 2010 Nations Cup in Angola. On Sunday afternoon in Rustenburg, the Eagles face 1992 champions Cote d’Ivoire. The winners of this match-up will clash with the winners of the quarterfinal between hosts South Africa and Mali. Culled from Tribune http://www.osundefender.org/?p=91950 |

The Financial Audit Report of the Oil and Gas sector by the Nigeria Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (NEITI) has revealed that a total of $143.5 billion (about N21.5trillion) was earned by Nigeria as revenue from the sector between 2009 and 2011. The N21,450,000,000,000 translates to about five times the nation’s budget for the year 2013. The monies were earned from sales of equity crude, royalty, signature bonus, concession rentals, gas flaring penalties, Petroleum Profit Tax and companies’ income tax. Other areas that contributed include earnings from Pay As You Earn (PAYE), Value Added Tax (VAT), dividends and repayment of loan by the Nigeria Liquefied Natural Gas (NLNG), contributions to the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) and the Education Tax Fund (ETF). At the formal presentation of the independent audit report on Thursday, the Chairman of the National Stakeholders Working Group of NEITI, Mr. Ledum Mitee said the report was commissioned in line with Section 16 of the NEITI Act. NNPC shenanigans The report also disclosed that the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) had claimed a total of N1.40 trillion as subsidy payments directly from proceeds of domestic crude sales before remittance between 2009 and 2011. NEITI said it would further investigate NNPC’s rapidly escalating fuel import subsidy bill, which the audit showed rose from N198 billion in 2009 to N786 billion in 2011. The report further stated that the subsidy payments claimed by the NNPC increased by 110 percent. It rose from N198 billion in 2009 to N416 billion in 2010. The Audit report also revealed that the NNPC owes the federation account N1.305 trillion from crude oil sales in the three-year period as at December 2011. The firm also owed $4.84 billion in dividends and loan repayments from the NLNG export business between 2009-2011 and a further $3.99 billion in NLNG funds from previous years going back to 1999, the audit said. The state-oil firm receives 445,000 bpd of crude oil to refine locally but only uses 20 percent of it because Nigerian refineries are in disrepair. The rest it sells, the audit said. NEITI said NNPC then removes subsidy from the money it earns from the crude oil sales before sending the balance to government accounts, a practice the auditor said the government should change because it left “gaps in the process”. The report further revealed that Nigeria is owed around $5.85 billion in underpaid taxes and royalties from oil and gas producers but did not name specific companies because some firms are seeking legal action on the alleged debts. NEITI is a government agency that operates as part of a global EITI scheme to investigate and monitor the extractive industry. http://www.channelstv.com/home/2013/01/31/nigeria-earned-143-5-billion-oil-revenue-in-two-years-neiti/ Yet It cannot be accounted for |
Odemwingie tries to force QPR move Peter Odemwingie travelled to QPR in an attempt to force through a move to Loftus Road - despite not being given permission by West Brom - and was reportedly refused entry to the Rangers ground. PA PhotosOdemwingie has travelled to Loftus Road It appeared Odemwingie, who has made no secret of his desire to move to west London in the January transfer window, believed he may have been able to hold talks. Any hopes of a deal appeared to have fallen through after West Brom demanded Junior Hoilett on loan - with his wages paid in full by QPR - in exchange for allowing the Nigerian to leave. Rangers had initially refused to include Hoilett as part of the deal but, with negotiations between the two clubs reportedly continuing, Odemwingie travelled to Loftus Road of his own accord on Thursday evening. West Brom were forced to deny that any deal for the player had been agreed and that he had not been given permission to travel to the Premier League's bottom club. "The club have held further discussions with QPR today but those talks have so far proven fruitless and no agreement has been reached," West Brom said on their official Twitter account. "Albion would also like to make clear that Peter has not been given permission to speak to QPR about a potential move." Speaking to reporters outside QPR’s Loftus Road ground earlier on Thursday evening, Odemwingie insisted he was leaving with West Brom's blessing. Asked whether the Midlanders were disappointed at his impending departure, Odemwingie told Sky Sports: "No, no. WBA is my home. I love WBA and always will. But this is a new challenge. "I am happy with the trust the manager has in me. QPR can stay up. The owners would not spend all this money if they did not think that would happen." He added: "It's not sorted yet. I hope West Brom will be happy. They hope to get players themselves." West Brom boss Steve Clarke said earlier in the week that Odemwingie had been "badly advised" by his representatives. "Things have been going on behind the scenes which have turned his head, and it's unfortunate for us," Clarke said. "The situation is not good for anybody. If they [QPR] don't come up with a bid that's acceptable, he won't go. "The club are entitled to get what they think is a good price. That's the situation." http://soccernet.espn.go.com/news/story/_/id/1321661/odemwingie-tries-force-qpr-move?cc=3888 |

N35.5 Billion extended to Air Nigeria Alone? There are really powers to be in this country |
The Senate on Tuesday directed the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to recover the sum of N35.5billion Aviation Intervention Fund which was extended to Air Nigeria. The chairman of the Senate Committee on Aviation said the committee during its investigations into the Dana Air plane crash discovered that the N35.5billion aviation intervention fund which was disbursed by UBA and extended to Air Nigeria was diverted by the management of Air Nigeria to other businesses. http://www.channelstv.com/home/2013/01/29/senate-directs-cbn-to-recover-n35-5bn-aviation-fund-from-air-nigeria/ |
