Ngodigha:You are very funny. I meant no insult. |
Sometimes, some Igbos get offended when their ethnicity is described as Ibo. They say that the word “Igbo” is the only correct term for their ethnic group. That is not true. Our founding father, Eri Ben Gad described himself as Heebo, after his Hebrew ethnic group. Olaudah Equiano described himself as Iboe- remember, he is the Equianoist icon. In the Jamaican Revolution of 1816, the reggae nation named their leader “The King of the Eboes”.Many other great Equianoists (Igbos) have described themselves by different variants of this name. What matters is that we all know they were talking of the same people, the great Igbo race. So, next time someone calls you Ibo, don’t frown. Smile! That is what you are http://igbodefender.com/2011/07/27/are-the-igbos-diferent-from-the-ibos/ I think this should settle the argument between "igbo" or "ibo" |
I once asked a question on this forum: "Why do people want ACN to fail?" I think I have my answer now. It is a sad day when you see the youth of this country proudly line up behind inefficiency, waste, corruption, lies, deceit, hatred for no just cause and evil. I hope there is a way forward for our country. |
Woe betide any politician that comes my way this night. Cant believe this is Nigeria (or what it used to be) |

I never promised any point agenda – Jonathan PRESIDENT Goodluck Jonathan yesterday confirmed the death of the seven-point agenda of his predecessor, the late Umaru Yar’Adua, saying that he never promised any agenda during electioneering campaign. The president, who was making closing remarks at a two-day presidential retreat for ministers, advisers and permanent secretaries in Abuja, insisted he only promised good governance. He said he was disturbed by media reports about nine-point agenda, which he never promised. “ I never mentioned any agenda point. We have never promised any number of point. We promised good governance not point. Every sector of the economy is important. We are not running a government of any point agenda”, Jonathan declared. While noting that every sector of the economy is important, he urged ministers and other top government functionaries to help him in keeping his electoral promises. Jonathan reminded them that there are wide expectations from the public, expressing optimism that “the present dispensation will change things in d country for good”. He noted that it was easy for people to criticise without having deep knowledge about the subject matter, saying that the ministers and advisers have crucial roles to play in the implementation of government policies. The president also laid emphasis on team work if the transformation agenda must be achieved. “I expect you to begin to think. You must generate ideas, you must discuss ideas so that we move forward”, Jonathan charged. Speaking after the two-day brainstorming session, the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Mr Reuben Abati, said: “The discussion has been of great quality and what I take away is that, first, emphasis on transformation is its holistic term, in the sense of good governance, in the building of infrastructure and human development in elaborate sense. ”The second thing is that the entire team is now on the same page. You can see that the ministers and the advisers even came up with a Charter in which they expressed their commitment to the vision of Mr President. ” And from this point onward, the team has been energised about integrity, about efficiency and about the need to engage the Nigerian people and address all the issues that preoccupy them.” http://www.vanguardngr.com/2011/07/i-never-promised-any-point-agenda-jonathan/ |

Alhaji Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso demanded N1.3 billion from the Shekarau administration in lieu of the house of his choice that was to be built for him as governor of the state between 1999 and 2003 as provided for by the law, Kano’s former governor Malam Ibrahim Shekarau said in Kano yesterday. Kwankwaso is the current governor of the state, having won last April’s election. The law in question provides that any civilian governor in the state since 1999 is entitled to a house of his choice, a salary for life, domestic servants and annual vacation at any country of his choice. The law did not however peg a particular amount for the house to be built. The generous provision also applies to deputy governors of the state. Shekarau was making a clarification over an allegation by some Kwankwaso administration officials that he approved N300 million for the supply of furniture alone to his controversial Mundubawa Avenue residence, which was built for him by the state government. Shekarau, who spoke through his media aide Sule Ya’u Sule, said when his administration approached Kwankwaso and asked for the type of house he wanted it to build for him as provided for by the law, he submitted to the then government a demand that a house to his taste would cost N1.3 billion. Kwankwaso also demanded that the money be monetized and paid to him, Sule said. According to Shekarau’s aide, the money demanded by Kwankwaso was reduced by the then administration to N900 million, “since the money budgeted for the house built for Shekarau was not up to N700 million.” He said a voucher for payment of the money was already raised and the amount was about to be paid when Shekarau’s tenure ended and the voucher was left for Kwankwaso to pay himself. Sule also said N250 million had since been paid to Kwankwaso by the Shekarau administration as monetized funds for the construction of an office as provided for by the law. He described as untrue the allegation by Kwankwaso’s aides that Shekarau’s residence was built by the state government at N3 billion. He said building of the house in question was done at N420 million (less 10 percent tax) while furniture and other fittings gulped N269 million, also less 10 percent tax. Sule said contract for the house was handled by a Kano-based indigenous construction firm while the supply of the furniture and other fittings was handled by one of the big shopping malls in Kano. He also said the whole project was done under the supervision of the state Ministry of Works and Transport. It is not true that Malam Shekarau has many houses in Kano and other places, Sule said, adding that the former governor has no house except the one built for him by the government. However, Governor Kwankwaso’s media assistant Jaafar Jaafar insisted yesterday that Shekarau’s house was built at N3 billion and not N689 million as claimed by his aides. He alleged that furniture for the house alone gulped N350 million. Jaafar said the law provides that a former civilian governor is entitled to a six-bed room house, but that Shekarau had a 20-bed room house built for him by the state government. http://www.dailytrust.dailytrust.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=23123:kwankwaso-demanded-n13bn-for-own-house&catid=2:lead-stories&Itemid=8 |

God is good, especially if you’re a Nigerian pastor with some business savvy. These days, millions of souls, desperate for financial breakthroughs, miracles and healing, all rush to the church for redemption. And while the bible expressly states that salvation is free, at times it comes with a cost: offerings, tithes, gifts to spiritual leaders, and a directive to buy literature and other products created by men of God. Pastors are no longer solely interested in getting people to Heaven; they’ve devised intelligent ways to make good money while reaching out to souls. Take Pastor Chris Oyakhilome, for example. He is the founder and lead pastor of the Christ Embassy, a thriving congregation with branches in Nigeria, South Africa, London, Canada and the United States. His publishing company, Loveworld Publications, publishes ‘Rhapsody of Realities,’ a monthly devotional he co-authors with his wife. It sells over 2 million copies every month at $1 apiece. He also owns television stations, newspapers, magazines, a hotel, a fast-food chain, and more. Many other Nigerian pastors are similarly building multi-million dollar empires from their churches. Today, pastors fly around in private jets, drive fancy cars like Daimlers, Porsches and BMWs, don Rolexes and Patek Phillipes, and own breathtaking mansions all over the world. After the blog post I wrote in May about Nigerian pastors owning private jets, I was bombarded with emails from readers requesting to know the richest pastors in Nigeria. So I set out to investigate the assets of some of Nigeria’s most prominent pastors, and I came up with conservative estimates of their fortunes. I contacted representatives for all of the pastors and all except Matthew Ashimolowo’s representative confirmed ownership of the assets I list. Representatives for Pastor Ashimolowo did not respond to my emails. 1). Bishop David Oyedepo Affiliation: Living Faith World Outreach Ministry, aka Winners Chapel Estimated net worth: $150 million David Oyedepo is Nigeria’s wealthiest preacher. Ever since he founded the Living Faith World Outreach Ministry in 1981, it has grown to become one of Africa’s largest congregations. The Faith Tabernacle, where he hosts three services every Sunday, is Africa’s largest worship center, with a seating capacity of 50,000. Oyedepo owns four private jets and homes in London and the United States. He also owns Dominion Publishing House, a thriving publishing company that publishes all his books (which are often centered on prosperity). He founded and owns Covenant University, one of Nigeria’s leading tertiary institutions, and Faith Academy, an elite high school. 2). Chris Oyakhilome Church: Believers’ Loveworld Ministries, a.k.a Christ Embassy Estimated net worth: $30 million – $50 million Last year, the charismatic preacher was at the center of a $35 million money laundering case in which he was accused of siphoning funds from his church to foreign banks. Pastor Chris pleaded no wrongdoing and the case was eventually dismissed. His church, Christ Embassy, boasts more than 40,000 members, several of whom are successful business executives and politicians. Oyakhilome’s diversified interests include newspapers, magazines, a local television station, a record label, satellite TV, hotels and extensive real estate. His Loveworld TV Network is the first Christian network to broadcast from Africa to the rest of the world on a 24 hour basis. 3). Temitope Joshua Church: Synagogue Church Of All Nations (SCOAN) Estimated net worth: $10 million – $15 million Nigeria’s most controversial clergyman is also one of its richest and most philanthropic. T.B Joshua heads the Synagogue Church of all Nations (SCOAN), a congregation he founded in 1987, which accommodates over 15,000 worshippers on Sundays. The Pastor has remained controversial for several years for his inexplicable powers to heal all sorts of incurable diseases, including HIV/AIDS, cancer and paralysis. For miracle-craving worshippers, it’s the perfect seduction. The church currently has branches in Ghana, the United Kingdom, South Africa, and Greece. In the past three years, he has given over $20 million to causes in education, healthcare and rehabilitation programs for former Niger Delta militants. He owns Emmanuel TV, a Christian television network, and is close friends with Ghanaian President Atta Mills. 4). Matthew Ashimolowo Kingsway International Christian Centre (KICC) Estimated net worth: $6 million – $10 million In 1992, Foursquare Gospel Church, a Nigerian church, sent Ashimolowo to open a satellite branch in London. But Pastor Matthew had other ideas and decided to set up his own church instead. Today, his Kingsway International Christian Center is reportedly the largest Pentecostal church in the United Kingdom. In 2009, the church posted profits of close to $10 million and assets worth $40 million. Ashimolowo earns an annual salary of $200,000, but his real wealth comes from varied business interests including his media company, Matthew Ashimolowo media, which churns out Christian literature and documentaries. Ashimolowo’s representatives did not respond to a request confirming his net worth and ownership of all these assets. 5). Chris Okotie Church: Household of God Church Net worth: $3 million -$10 million Pastor Okotie made his first success as a popular pop musician in the 80s. He found the light, embraced the bible and set up the Household of God Church, one of Nigeria’s most flamboyant congregations. His 5,000 member church consists predominantly of Nollywood celebrities, musicians, and society people. He contested and lost Nigerian presidential elections for the third time this year under the Fresh Party, a political party he founded and funds. An automobile lover, he owns a Mercedes S600, Hummer and Porsche among several others. http://blogs.forbes.com/mfonobongnsehe/2011/06/07/the-five-richest-pastors-in-nigeria/ |
This winner takes it all attitude with no room for compromise or dissenting opinion is a big scourge in our system |
@Mikeansy. I have no intention to abuse/insult your person. if you think so, I hereby tender my unreserved apology. You have to understand that not every member of this forum is interested in making a comment. Although most of us look forward to read opinions of people like you, oyb, gbawe and beaf (I do not necessarily agree with most of his views, just a means of viewing the other side of the coin) and a lot of other forumites. Again, my apologies. @all. Sorry for posting out of topic. btw. I would like to know why most people want ACN to fail? I am not a member of the party. Just curious. Thanks. |
Gbawe you will do well to avoid the likes of mikeansy. i used to think he was a brilliant and fair chap in his analysis on this forum. But lately he has gone way below expectation. cherry picking arguments (as can be seen from his last post and on many other topics) is disgraceful to say the least. A pity when some of the few brilliant members we have on this forum decides to look at issues through rose tinted glasses. Again I say its a big shame. I may not have contributed anything to this discussion but I just have to point this out. |
We usually poke fun at a soft spoken person as somebody wey no get liver!!! |
MAN KNOW THYSELF For man to know himself is for him to feel that for him there is no human master. For him Nature is his servant, and whatsoever he wills in Nature, that shall be his reward. If he wills to be a pigmy, a serf or a slave, that shall he be. If he wills to be a real man in possession of the things common to man, then he shall be his own sovereign. When man fails to grasp his authority he sinks to the level of the lower animals, and whatsoever the real man bids him do, even as if it were of the lower animals, that much shall he do. If he says "go." He goes. If he says "come," he comes. By this command he performs the functions of life even as by a similar command the mule, the horse, the cow perform the will of their masters. For the last four hundred years the Negro has been in the position of being commanded even as the lower animals are controlled. Our race has been without a will; without a purpose of its own, for all this length of time. Because of that we have developed few men who are able to understand the strenuousness of the age in which we live. Where can we find in this race of ours real men. Men of character, men of purpose, men of confidence, men of faith, men who really know themselves? I have come across so many weaklings who profess to be leaders, and in the test I have found them but the slaves of a nobler class. They perform the will of their masters without question. To me, a man has no master but God. Man in his authority is a sovereign lord. As for the individual man, so of the individual race. This feeling makes man so courageous, so bold, as to make it impossible for his brother to intrude upon his rights. So few of us can understand what it takes to make a man - the man who will never say die; the man who will never give up; the man who will never depend upon others to do for him what he ought to do for himself; the man who will not blame God, who will not blame Nature, who will not blame Fate for his condition; but the man who will go out and make conditions to suit himself. Oh, how disgusting life becomes when on every hand you hear people (who bear your image, who bear your resemblance) telling you that they cannot make it, that Fate is against them, that they cannot get a chance. If 400,000,000 Negroes can only get to know thesmelves, to know that in them is a sovereign power, is an authority that is absolute, then in the next twenty-four hours we would have a new race, we would have a nation, an empire, - resurrected, not from the will of others to see us rise, - but from our own determination to rise, irrespective of what the world thinks Marcus Garvey http://www.marcusgarvey.com/wmview.php?ArtID=565 |
Its no secret that acn helped him with his case tribunal. also with radio propaganda (adaba fm) when the incumbent governor shut him out of the state owned media outfit. i think its a bit rich for him to now castigate the acn leadership, moreover when they (acn) have not come out to accuse him of anything. although i dont think he needs to decamp. |
why i changed was because my first username i registered with was my real name. i never engaged in serious discussions like this. i only post topics and read user comments. maybe commenting only three times in a year. Guess im a little bit jobless so thats why i registered with a new username to comment with. |
i dont think you have any reason to ask for who i voted for and why. i have been on this site for 4 years now (although i have just registered with another username). And i know how this back and forth arguments degenerates into insults. We are discussing Jonathan's rumored ministerial list, no need to get personal. |
exactly what i am saying. if he does not perform then we are in serious shit. |
no need engaging in back and forth. i will only reserve my comment until he releases his ministerial list. maybe you do not understand that it is our interest that this guy performs. we cant afford as a nation to remain stagnant for the next four years. it will be a catastrophe |
so you are already writing him off? |
i understand what you mean. but what i am trying to say is that why are you crucifying for what he has not done? |
