bumfem: Lier ,Lier !! Lier !!! Physiotherapists are neuro musculoskeletal practitonals. They have the right to practice independently in Nigeria and exwhere in gov't hospitals and physio own clinics . Patients see Physiotherapists by medical referrals or by self referrals. No law stops patients from see physio on first contact in nigeria. In Canada and exwhere across the globe Physiotherapists are designated primary health provider. I mean in Canada and,Aussie UK and many developed countries in the world .Physio status in these climes are not by fiat. It is a product of comprehensive empirical studies regards physio relevance and importance at primary health. It is also a function of robustness of physio training and scope especially in musckuloskeletals . They are only second to orthopeadic surgeon in ability and competence in identifying musculoskeletal diseases and movement disorder. So they are recognized in western world as first class physical diagnosticians in modern medical practice .

So we are not talking about claims born out of emotion and hate and not by serious empirical evidence . I notice you are ignorant of lots of thing outside your medicine. And pls retrain from reacting to every comment. We all know in parts. Do not be jack of all trade.

Just my 2 naira.

ifyclose2: Take it or leave it, the doctor is the most IDEAL person to head any hospital because of his vast knowledge in relation to patient care....d average doctor has some knowledge about pharmacy, lab science and nursing....but these other guys have NO KNOWLEDGE about medicine...the major problem with these JOHESU guys (apart from d Pharmacists) is JEALOUSY and INFERIORITY COMPLEX....and this has been on-going for decades....instead of appreciating d position which God has given them, and see themselves as distinguished professionals, they choose instead to rub shoulders with doctors, which is absolutely ridiculous IMHO.....u need to visit federal and state hospitals and see d negative behaviour of some of these guys, particularly towards doctors. It smells of pure envy.....and come to think of it...whenever a sick person visits a hospital, he doesn't go to see d nurse or lab scientist. He goes to see d DOCTOR. The doctor is d rightful owner of d patient and takes responsibility whenever things go wrong.....whenever a patient feels poorly-treated and decides to press charges, it is d DOCTOR that gets sued, not d lab scientist or nurse. This is because we have a GREATER RESPONSIBILITY in relation to patient care.....all this unnecessary rivalry has to stop before we can move forward.
Ify I think you should let this issue be.this arguement should continue in the health section.leave them be. Nigerians deserve what ever rubbish they see including in healthcare.just relax.

nobody goes to the physiotherapist FIRST except as part of a treatment plan INITIATED by a doctor. do most Nigerians even know who a PT is and what he does?
Health › Re: Anybody Else Experiencing Sleep Paralaysis? by phantom(m): 3:00pm On Jul 06, 2014
Nigerians will spiritualise every damn thing. that's why a woman will be in labour for 3 days at a prayer house because they think its a demonic attack (since it is biblical to have a normal delivery like the Hebrew woman ) but eventually ends up on the doctors operating table in the teaching hospital with a ruptured uterus.

Morotov1: This is ego talking.....right because a physician trained and board certified will know that in treating anything joint, there is conservative, surgical and rehabilitation....so relying on only NSAIDS, STERIODS AND COX INHIBITORS is not a good management plan. Please, this is one of the global best practices we are begging for.
you are missing my point. I DECIDE when the treatment will be conservative, surgical or rehabilitative.don't you get ithuh? any patients you see, I SEND TO YOU. its not arrogance but fact! no offense.

octopaul: Doctor, please write out a proper management plan for knee osteoarthritis. One that your untrained physiotherapist can carry out without thinking for himself.
I am waiting.
o please don't be shallow.what is the wonderful thing your physiotherapy does for a progressive degenerative condition like osteoarthroses other than marginal palliative care. the pain is still managed by nsaids or in the case of drug induced gastritis, COX inhibitors.these are all prescribed by a doctor and I choose when and when not to involve YOU the physiotherapist in the management of the patient. that is the crux of the matter. I decide when to changes drugs to something stronger e.g opiates in severe conditions or for a more 'permanent' fix like prosthesis. in the case of the latter, the Ortho. surgeon (still a doctor) sorts that out.

I wish the next governor can follow this through.imagine this running down ikwerre road and down aba road to garrison and on into trans amadi. but I prefer otokz idea. a ground light rail running the full stretch of aba road and another running the full stretch of east west from eleme to mbiama junction.it would make more economic sense to me.

Elythron16zero4: grin grin Needless dissipating your energies fruitlessly, there is no need beating about the bush. ab initio i do know the context of the word usage was not ideal but you know what,on like others who tried to correct me with insolence you were about the only person who spoke from knowledge sharing and very reasonable. Even with my insistence though i knew i was wrong but you have not descended to expletives and i quite appreciate that. Thank you. I actually chose to escalate this argument when i saw that those trying to correct me from inception were merely trying to make a caricature of themselves and not me. This is especially with the insistence that i should explain the meaning of faulty/wrong prognosis. If they have said did you mean diagnosis? i would have concurred but they are making it sound as if i don't know the meaning of the word i used not that they are seeing it as a mistake or misused of words. one of them said i have no medical inclination and that the word was grammatically wrong. That was why i became exasperated and neck bent to defend the word and now they are all tired and not responding again. That is what you get when you try to correct people by mockery. Prognosis for all diseases are already known before hand once the disorder is identified. That is why it is pro>before and gnosis>knowing i.e before a disorder comes we know what the prognosis of that disorder will be. without running a test if you ask a doctor/pharmacist/an allied health worker to tell you the prognosis of mumps for example, he/she with a good knowledge of the disease etiology will be able to tell you because he/she already knows it. I am sure some Pharmacist on this platform knows that the context of that word usage is truly wrong but kept mute because those spotting the error are trying to be egoistic about it. In my view prognosis are standards like formularies and pharmacopeias were you can look for drug info so before any diagnosis is carried out the prognosis is already in place. It is when the doctor identifies the disorder that he can now link the signs and symptoms with the prognosis and then recommend the appropriate drugs. Truly there are no wrong/faulty prognosis unless one is giving the prognosis of disease A for disease B then it becomes wrong which still support my argument which is a fallacy. In all i thank you for being reasonable and for not seeing me as one who didn't know but one who made a wrong use of the word .

PharmGreg: what do u take pharmacy for? Pharmacology? That pharmacology that u need just 50% to pass, gush! What does he know about drugs? Just Pharmacology? Almost Every health proffesionals did pharmacology.
.
Even if u read a course on drug production u aint a pharmacist and the act setting up NAFDAC says the position should be occupied by a pharmacist.
.
Should a Pharmacist be called a Physician because he did a course on public health?
.
.
.
. . . U knw d truth but trying to hide it.
don't get yourself riled up over nothing.the pharmacology I took in school does not make me a pharmacist. I don't know more than you as regards drugs.its a fact so take it easy a beg.

the other link is an isolated incident that occurs even more in isolation when there are multiple drugs in question. I see nothing wrong in asking a pharmacist opinion on that issue. i have personally seen such cases.

he is a Dr, a Phd holder in neuropharmacology and a lawyer. all in one. whats your issue against him. Had he been just a Dr i would have said you have a point but look at the qualifications.
ahaa!!! I thought as much.he must have had extra qualifications that made him suited for the job.

PharmGreg: the current DG of NAFDAC is a Physician.
yes it is wrong in my opinion. a doctor has no business being DG nafdac UNLESS he has some sort of administrative training that prepares him for the task there.

barcanista: Thank you. And I am glad others that will read these threads(on NMA issue) will reason with the Drs on this. But Please appeal to your colleagues to reconsider suspending the strike while negotiating with govt.

I Appreciate your words Sir.
I can assure you that we suspend this strike now, while we negotiate and sign agreements, we will call for another strike in one year for THESE SAME ISSUES. mark my words.your government is notorious for not keeping agreements. we have dunces as leaders who are not worth the papers they sign agreements on. the last ASUU strike was on issues that had been agreed on in 2009 and even earlier. doctors deal with human lives and they have learnt to use that to blackmail us. we strike and street urchins masquerading as leaders remind us of our Hippocratic oath which they CANT read.believe me when I say this, there is no other avenue for resolving these disputes other than a strike.

barcanista: The Bottom line is that JOHESU misinformed the Public.

My Sincere Apologies to Medical Doctors and the Medical Profession for my lashes on the Noble Profession. I was only being a concerned citizen with interest in fairness and justice. I acted based on the Opinions I got from JOHESU(They Deceived me with incomplete information) and NMA(they didn't explain to us well).

The Paramedics ESPECIALLY the Pharmacists should reconsider their position and honestly ask themselves these questions:

Will they encourage a Physician or a Nurse to Head NAFDAC?
Will they appoint a Nurse or Pharmacist as Medical Director in a HOSPITAL owned by them?
Will they permit a Medical Doctor to be the CEO of a Pharmaceutical Firm or Plant?
Will they permit their relatives to patronise Clinics/Hospital where the CMD is a Lab Scientist?
very salient questions. it would be interesting to read the answers

YourHealthlabs: Nobody is asking you what u earn in dollars, exchange rates are not stagnant. They are subjective many factors.

Morever an Intern doc earns more than the figure you posted there if converted today. A resident earns almost as twice as that figure. Let's say it way it is.

If you are ignorant tell us, i'll give you a sound lecture on the goings-on in the health sector. It's a pity you've lost media monopoly. People are wiser

Take your last advice, you need it more.

barcanista: With the BOLD, the Doctors have substance. Honestly, most people(Myself Included) used to think that ALL Administrative Positions are FILLED by Doctors and HONESTLY I wasn't aware of a POWERFUL office of the "Administrative Director" until yesterday-The JOHESU didn't tell us that it is usually occupied by non-Clinical Professional.

Let me add that the Office of Chief Medical Director/Medical Director Should remain the sole inheritance of Physicians. Reason being that by training, Physicians are equipped with the necessary skills needed for Hospital Management and the have General overview of all the paramedics in addition to their core skills(According to what i read). It will be absurd to appoint a non-Combatant Soldier as Chief of Army Staff.

The Medics need to always feed the public with information on "their own side" of the matter. Honestly, losing public respect is one thing no individual or group will wish for.

Having re-read the Medics and JOHESU demands, I formed the following as "legitimates" solution.

1) The office of Minister of Health should be occupied by a Medical Doctor
2) The Office of Minister of State for Health be opened to other Health Practitioners
3) The demand for the office of Surgeon-General is not necessary
4) The CBN erred by approving the MLSCN to regulate importation of IVF(abi na wetin sef) Equipment knowing fully that the Health Sector is Multidisciplinary. Instead, the Govt should have established a Commission or Agency with Members Drawn from Health Professionals to regulate such and other Health Equipment Importation. (The NMA/NARD should approach the Court instead of striking)
5) The Office of CMD should be the Exclusive of Doctors being that the Hospitals are their primary duty posts and their oversight.
6) The Offices of CMAC & Dep CMAC should be retained since others have theirs and be exclusive of Doctors.
7) Other Health Pros should be allowed to rise to Directorate rank if they are qualified however grey areas should be sorted
8] The Title/Rank of CONSULTANT should be opened to all HOWEVER, other professionals should meet international minimum standard before attaining such Rank instead of just few years of PG Studies. And the "Non" Clinical Consultant should know his place in Clinical Issues. While it is good for a Pharmacist to attain consultant status, It will be immoral for him to use such rank as a barrier to a Physician. Doctors are the natural Leaders of Any Medical Teams GLOBALLY.
welcome back barcanista........ good to read from you AGAIN.
