Religion / Re: What Did Jesus Mean By "The Poor Will Always Be Among You"? by PHC4(m): 7:16am On Nov 17, 2019 |
The Bible has a lot to say about being poor, and we have many examples of poor people in Scripture. Since material wealth is not a sure indication of God’s blessing, being poor is not necessarily a sign of God’s disapproval. In fact, it is possible to be poor in material things but rich in spiritual things (see Revelation 2:9). Of course, sometimes being poor is the result of bad choices. The Bible warns that laziness will lead to being poor: “A little sleep, a little slumber, / a little folding of the hands to rest— / and poverty will come on you like a thief / and scarcity like an armed man” (Proverbs 24:33–34; cf. 6:11). Following wild dreams will likewise lead to poverty: “Those who chase fantasies will have their fill of poverty” (Proverbs 28:19), as will failing to heed wise advice: “Poverty and disgrace come to him who ignores instruction” (Proverbs 13:18, ESV). In other places, the Bible portrays poor people as having been blessed, and many who are rich are seen in a negative light. Jesus Himself was poor, not having a home or a “place to lay his head” (Matthew 8:20). The disciples and most of Jesus’ followers were poor, at least in worldly terms, but rich in spiritual wealth. The disciples even left all they had to follow Him, giving up all they owned, placing their full trust in Him to provide what they needed. Jesus said the poor will always be with us (Matthew 26:11). There is no shame in being poor. Our attitude should be that of the writer in Proverbs who said, “Give me neither poverty nor riches, but give me only my daily bread” (Proverbs 30:. The rich are generally portrayed negatively in the Bible. Wealth itself is seen as a hindrance to those who desire to enter the kingdom of God. Jesus declared, “How hard it is for the rich to enter the kingdom of God!” (Mark 10:23), and He repeated this statement in the very next verse. Why did He make such a shocking statement? Because the rich tend to trust in their riches more than in God. Wealth tends to pull us away from God. The story of the rich man and Lazarus (Luke 16:19–31) displays the temporary nature of riches. The rich man enjoyed great luxury in life but spent eternity in hell because of his greed and covetousness. Lazarus suffered the indignities of extreme poverty but was comforted in heaven forever. Jesus Himself left His throne in heaven in order to take on the lowly form of a poor man. Paul said of Him, “For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though he was rich, yet for your sakes he became poor, so that you through his poverty might become rich” (2 Corinthians 8:9). At some point, as Christians we must ask ourselves: What are we really doing here in this temporary place? Where is our heart (Luke 12:34)? Are we really denying ourselves? Are we really giving sacrificially as did the poor widow (Luke 21:1–4)? To follow Jesus is to take up our cross (Luke 9:23). This means to literally give our total lives to Him, unencumbered by the things of this world. In the parable of the sower, riches are like “thorns”: “The worries of this life and the deceitfulness of wealth choke [the Word], making it unfruitful” (Matthew 13:22). It is those thorns, “the worries of this life” and the “deceitfulness of wealth,” the not-so-subtle tools of Satan, that lure us away from God and His Word. The Bible paints for us a contrast between those who are poor yet rich in Christ and those who are rich yet without God. Copied 3 Likes 2 Shares |

1 Corinthians 16 v 1- 2..... 16:1 Now concerning the collection for the saints, as I have given order to the churches of Galatia, even so do ye. 16:2 Upon the first day of the week let every one of you lay by him in store, as God hath prospered him, that there be no gatherings when I come. 2 Corinthians 9 v 5 - 8 9:5 Therefore I thought it necessary to exhort the brethren, that they would go before unto you, and make up beforehand your bounty, whereof ye had notice before, that the same might be ready, as a matter of bounty, and not as of covetousness. 9:6 But this I say, He which soweth sparingly shall reap also sparingly; and he which soweth bountifully shall reap also bountifully. 9:7 Every man according as he purposeth in his heart, so let him give; not grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loveth a cheerful giver. 9:8 And God is able to make all grace abound toward you; that ye, always having all sufficiency in all things, may abound to every good work: Luke 6:38 Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure that ye mete withal it shall be measured to you again. Tithing was for the Jews due to their inheritance. Only ten tribes got land to farm while the Levi and House of Aaron were to care for the temple and their spiritual needs at the temple. God bless you. 2 Likes |
Autos / Stop Doing These Five Things To Your Car by PHC4(m): 1:27pm On Mar 31, 2018 |
Stop doing these five things to your car BY MILAD HASSANDARVISH Published: March 29, 2018 KUALA LUMPUR, March 29 — Handling an automatic car is no doubt more straightforward than driving a manual one. With an automatic vehicle, driving becomes easier and less of a workout thanks to the invention of self-shifting transmission. However, one can easily break the parts if one takes the convenience of auto transmission for granted. While it's much simpler to handle a car with automatic transmission, there are some useful precautions to take. Here are five common driving mistakes that can cost you a lot of money in repairs and replacement of worn-out parts: 1. Shifting into “park” before completely stopping the car When you engage the gear into the parking mode, a locking pin is inserted into a gear attached to the transmission output shaft. The wheels of the vehicle are also attached to the same shaft. Therefore, when you switch into the parking mode while the wheels are still rolling, there’s a risk of breaking the locking pin. 2. Launching your vehicle Avoid revving your car’s engine in neutral mode before switching into drive. This might enable you to zoom off at a high speed but guess what, it will also wear out the automatic transmission band which can break the bank to repair. A better way to launch your vehicle would be to press the brake pedal with your left foot and rev up the engine by using the accelerator pedal with your other foot before releasing the brakes. This will enable you to zoom off with minimal wear and tear. 3. Coasting downhill in neutral gear The reason why most people do this is to save on fuel consumption. However, modern automatic transmissions cut fuel supply to the engine while driving down a slope. This means you are only using the wheels to power the engine as the fuel injectors are automatically shut off. Shifting to neutral while coasting downhill takes some control away from you since you won’t be able to accelerate the car during emergency situations. It could also cause significant damage to the transmission. 4. Switching direction without completely stopping the car Make sure you come to a complete stop before going from drive to reverse or vice versa. This is because when you shift gears in motion, the vehicle uses the transmission to stop the car instead of letting the brakes do the job, which will wear out the automatic transmission band. 5. Not changing the transmission oil fluid regularly Just like engine oil, transmission oil can become contaminated over time and when that happens it can no longer lubricate the transmission components effectively. Always follow the manufacturer’s specifications and change the fluid at the recommended interval to ensure that your vehicle transmission is properly lubricated. http://www.themalaymailonline.com/drive/article/stop-doing-these-5-things-to-your-car?content_urlfrom=news_republic_us 1 Share

Religion / Re: 30 Pairs Of Bible Verses That Contradict One Another by PHC4(m): 8:09am On Feb 19, 2017 |
Let me say that: 1. To obtain an understanding of a supposedly contradiction, you need to read the entire chapter. e.g in the case of whether it is early morning or dark Magdalene went to the sepulchre as shown by you in John 20:1, I advice you read down to verse 20 to clear your confusion. 2. In comparing verses of the synoptic gospels, i.e Matthew, Mark, Luke and John, be rest assured that you will see some perceived inconsistencies. But my advice to you is that they are synoptic.....accounts of four people that witness same events but with different levels of views and understanding. For instance, a family of four including a father, mother, son and daughter witness an accident but upon reporting the father reported the mechanical and dynamic part of swerving, skidding and collision. The Mother reported the colours of the cars, the son said a dog flew out of the window of one of the cars while the daughter mentioned she saw a purple Barbie doll. Are the reports wrong? No. Just bits! 3. Compare verses in context when you feel confused. e.g after the sixth day and about an eight day are both correct contextually. Matt 17:1 and Luke 9:28 are in context 4. Matt 5:16 and Matt 6:1 are in different context. Let your light shine means your character, professing faith and values while give alms in public is a show off. Giving to men in secret from a sincere heart is acknowledged by men and rewarded by God I can go on and on. But it is time for church. We can continue if you truly desire the clarity of all you posted. Bye. haymekus: 1 Like |
