Are you having a laugh? This clown is calling a bunch of religious fanatics a naval force or what. Who the hell is Houthi to tell people not to use the gulf of aden or are you too ignorant to get how that works. This is an international water, even if it wasn't what right does Houthi a terrorist group have to attack ships passing by. That should be Yemen's decision.

They are TERRORISTS,a terrorist group. Just like Boko Haram attacking people for plying a particular route. Again, not Yemen, but Houthis, get that into your head. HOUTHI IS A TERRORIST GROUP AND THEY DESERVE NOTHING FROM ANYONE!

And where did you pull the whole rubbish you wrote up there from. This is not a propaganda page where you spout all kind of bollocks and expect every sensible person to swallow it.

You reckon it's right to strike a commercial ship that has nothing to do with Israel. Your attempt to defend the action shows what sort of person you are. What are you doing on my thread anyway?

The Gulf of Eden just like the Suez canal is not part of the open sea. It is within several countries territorial waters and EEZ. Don't just come and be misinforming people. There are instances and circumstances under which coastal states have the right to close such waterways. Go and read laws of the sea.

I don't know what metrics he is using but for me naira is over valued at 1300

If I were president I would devalue to #1700 then aggressively defend it there as I would have the liquidity to do so

Key thing is we need to identify key areas we have global comparative advantage.. ( what we can produce cheaper than most part of the world or what we have the potential to produce cheaper than most of the world) and heavily provide credit facility to this sectors

Driving export, increasing for example earnings

If we remove the subsidy on electricity and invest 700bn as loans to bank at 3% interest rate to be given to only players in the cassavacassava/ sweet potato to ethanol industry... I believe we can catapult that industry to a multi billion dollars industry creating millions of jobs and getting our investment in 10 years max

This is why you aren't an economist.. Devalue to #1700 and defend it aggressively with which liquidity.. If you are going to defend it, why devalue it in the first place?

Aljazeera is the closest to a reliable news source. Even though they are state-owned, they say it as it is. For example, in the Hamas-Isreal conflict, they constantly bash both side, while Western media dehumanise Palestinians and praise Isreal's atrocities

Last week I created a thread talking about how my japa plans have been crushed due to the increase in dollar.

Many adviced me to invest in dollar, this was the advice they gave me months ago but I did follow through because I wasn't sure.
My last thread hit front page and 90% of the comments were advising me to invest in dollars, one even quoted that in the past 10 years, the dollar haven't fallen but it increases every year.

One even called me a weak minded person and I am scared to take risks.
After everything I thought to myself, since so many people felt this dollar will keep on rising, maybe I should invest afterall life is all about risks.

Well guess what, dollar have decreased, I invested 3M in buying dollars and now in today exchange rate. I have 2.6M now and I either cash out now or hope it will increase.

Right now, I am very angry.
Those giving me advice should come and contribute the 400k for me o

Another thing, do you think the dollar will increase or should I just cut my loses.
I am so tired 😫

I don't mean to blame the victim, but I remember telling you to invest in a business, rather than the dollar. Dollar crashing was always certain, it was just a matter of when. And like someone replied, dollar is never getting there again or if it does, it will be temporal cos as soon as all the refinery (Dangote, Port-Harcourt, the many modular's ones) start working, Nigeria's FX need will dip, so will dollar.

I even gave you a business to invest in. You can't blame anyone for the choice you chose

Literature / Re: 12 Novels Considered The “Greatest Books Ever Written” by Philipmaxwell: 11:39pm On Oct 27, 2023
9jaBloke:
Virginia Woolf

For those disputing the inclusion of Things Fall Apart, this list is actually from a reputable British website: britannica.com

https://www.britannica.com/list/12-novels-considered-the-greatest-book-ever-written

I wonder why the OP didn't state the source.

Things Fall Apart is more than just a novel written by a Nigerian. You need to understand the literary significance and impact on African literature.

One of the first African novels to receive global critical acclaim. It is widely read and studied in English-speaking countries around the world. The novel was first published in the United Kingdom in 1962 by William Heinemann Limited, and became the first work published in Heinemann's African Writers Series (most of which I binge-read).

It is regarded as a milestone in Anglophone African literature, and for the perception of African literature in the West. It has come to be seen as the archetypal modern African novel in English, and is read in Nigeria and throughout Africa.

It is studied widely in Europe, India, and North America, where it has spawned numerous secondary and tertiary analytical works. It has achieved similar status and repute in Australia and Oceania.

It has sold more than 20 million copies worldwide. Time magazine included the novel in its TIME 100 Best English-language Novels from 1923 to 2005. It has been translated into more than 50 languages, and is often used in literature, world history, and African studies courses across the world.

The publication of Achebe's Things Fall Apart helped pave the way for numerous other African writers. Novelists who published after Achebe were able to find an eloquent and effective mode for the expression of the particular social, historical, and cultural situation of modern Africa.

Before Things Fall Apart was published, most of the novels about Africa had been written by European authors, portraying Africans as savages who were in need of western enlightenment.

This book helped convince the world that African Writers have something to offer and publishers paid attention.

The comment below is needless.
Wole Soyinka is one of the greatest literary icons in the world and last time I checked, he is still the only Nigerian with the Nobel prize in Literature. Rare feat!

Achebe & Soyinka were founding members of Ulli Bier's Mbari Club, together with J.P Clark, Chris Okigbo, Demas, Mabel and Pa Bruce Onobrakpeya and they all maintained maximum respect for one another.

It's sad to see this generation of youngsters, most of who do not know literary s**t from chocolate denigrate their legacy.

It's high time we switched off our tribal antennae

Omo... How you found a way to spin one court judgement somewhere else to mean that another nation's Supreme Court is on trial is quite unreal. The Supreme Court do not bend to anyone. Regardless of what anyone has done or not done, the Supreme Court can only make judgements according to Nigerian constitution, criminal and civil laws, as well as its procedures and regulations (including technicalities)

Investment / How To Deal With Loan Sharks by Philipmaxwell: 8:09pm On Oct 03, 2022
The first and foremost thing most people have to understand is that these loan sharks aren't here to help you whatsoever. You should take a loan from your bank if possible than to go to a loan shark/app. Their entire business model is based on exploiting your already bad situation. So, if you can avoid them.

However if you must, you should understand a number of things about them. When you are registering with them, they take certain info, like your contacts, name, bank info, BVN, photo etc. It's important you understand a few things

1. Majority of these loan apps are not registered, neither are they owned by registered companies
Instead, they are operated by high-end fraudsters looking for a way to clean their money.

2. No loan app can automatically take money from your account without authorisation. It's illegal. In fact, no bank in Nigeria can draw money from your account in another bank without an explicit court order. Somethjng most loan apps can never get, because they don't actually exist in official spaces.

3. They can't use your BVN to block your other accounts either without a court order, which can only be done if they choose to prosecute you which they can't do for one of two reasons. One, the money it will cost them to prosecute you will probably be more than what you owe. Two, they will be opening themselves up to sanctions and prosecutions. As the financial authorities are pretending they don't exist, they like it.

4. They can not declare you wanted like they claim. They can only try to disgrace you.

Because they have all your contactsinfo, they usually have an automated caller system that they use to pick random numbers and call them daily. The number of contacts they call increase as your number of days of defaulting increases.

My advice for you is that if you must take their loans, clear your phone logs and contact list first. Same for your messages. Then save the number of some of your real gees, like say just four. Install the app, take the loan and instantly uninstall it. That way, if you default, they will only have your four real gees to call and shame you. Having done this, do not reinstall the app for any reason unless you already have the money to pay, and even then make sure you do the same thing with your phone log, contact list and message first.

This is not an advice or stategy on how to take loans and not pay. It's a strategy to avoid embarrassment, in case of unforeseen circumstances. It's a good thing to pay back what you owe, even though the sharks are exploitative. After all, you agreed to what they offered. Just do what's right for everyone

shut up ur mouth empire of Japan was a world power at that time ,,what is Ukraine compared to Russia?

Japan, world power? This is laughable. Just so you know, like it has been said, the US has set the precedence for the use of nuclear weapons. Russia has more nuclear armaments than the whole of NATO combined. If they so decide to use it in Ukraine, adequate missiles will already be directed at other European states and the US.

That's what mutually assured destruction is. It simply means if you try to destroy me, you will succeed, but my automated plans will destroy you too. Both US and Russia know this. No one of them will ever nuke the other. At best they will nuke their non-nuclear allies. So, if Russia nukes Ukraine today, Europe will collect monetary compensation from Russia and everybody go rest.

War is generally defined as violent conflict between states or nations. Now I will repeat myself again, if the US was all out on a war with Afghanistan, it won’t take a day to level the whole place to dust. For your info the US never lost. Their troops had to be recalled because their time was already up and there was no point in spending one second in Afghanistan.

One would think you would have learnt something from the Russia-Ukraine conflict. It's easy to say one nation will wipe out another until the first bomb drops.

By the way, the US left Afghanistan, knowing fully well the Taliban will return to power. They left because they lost, they didn't see a way to win. It made no sense, military or economic, to keep waging a war they came to realise they will never win.

As per your definition of war, the US didn't roll into Afghanistan, they actively invaded, decimating Afghanistan's military in the process. That's a state of conflict between two nation. What was left of that government and that military is what forms the core and founding of this new Taliban.
Foreign Affairs / Re: Queen's Burial: Joe Biden Driven In Convoy, Other World Leaders Lumped In A Bus by Philipmaxwell: 6:34am On Sep 20, 2022

Oga the Afghan mission was not a war but a peacekeeping mission. If it was a war it would have taken the US few hours to decimate the whole of Afghanistan with missiles. Moreover the US wasn’t fighting the Afghan Army but a group of rag tags called Taliban. U guys should learn to understand these things better.

Mind u even Russia also lost their own expedition in Afghanistan. Infact they had a higher casualty than the US.

With all of your intelligence, please define war? Did the Afgan government beg the US to invade? Was the Taliban not a legitimate government at the time? It was war. To attack a sovereign nation and try to depose its government is war. They invaded and they lost. Period. You can make an argument for their failure and/or casualty figure, without distorting history

You should take your own advice..

Yes that military budget goes a long way into military research and development, logistics and personnel management. Hope u understand? Apart from nuclear weapons the US is still on top of the chart. How many times have u heard the US threaten any nation with nuclear weapons unlike Russia and North Korea. The US has the best navy in the world, the best Air Force and a very well trained army backed up by the latest innovation in military tech. Are u even aware China steals American military tech? So tell me who’s boss? U guys should research before coming online to disgrace yourselves

State your arguments logically and leave it so. China stealing America's tech doesn't make them boss. Do you have any idea how many planes and submarines belonging to Russia that the US have recovered or tried to recover from the sea? Does that make Russia boss over US?

They're the greatest country on earth. Period!

They have the biggest economy in the world. Economy they opened to every other country. They don't hoard knowledge or resources. Their economy/technology is literally opened to everyone in the world. You can be in a different country and build a successful business in the US without ever stepping foot there. Which other country will let you do that? A country where a Kenyan was president for 8 years. God bless the United States.

I have seen quite enough trash comments on this thread. You guys should at least get serious a bit.. Are you kidding? A Kenyan was president for eight years? Obama was an American. Did he fill his nomination form and wrote Kenya as nationality? Be reasonable.

It's quite funny that you would even somehow imagine that the US shares it tech, knowledge or resources. Really funny. Which knowledge or tech have they shared that you are referring to exactly? They do not, and they ensure to stifle and sabotage others not to acquire tech/ knowledge that can harm them or help people get out of their influence.

1. Celebration of materialism, entertainment, and theatre are potent signs of a declining or failed society.

2. These young people will never celebrate the young man striving to survive on the street, they will look down on the young girl hawking her merchandise to make ends meet. Because their lives are not flashy, they don't exude a perfume of luxury and greed. But one thing you can't take from these men and women is the wisdom and strength birthed out of their life's struggles and experiences.

3. Younger minds of today have been bastardized by every show of flashiness, there lies their dopamine hit. They are myopic, lazy, complacent, and vapid because they don't value what's not glamouring like gold. Their rights have been taken away from them via entertainment, but they will accuse, rush and attack you when you bring this to their notice.

4. Their role models are fraudsters, prostitutes, sociopaths, the corrupt, weak, arrogant, and neurotic. These are their golden calves, their gods, and their oracle.

5. Flexing wealth is always a sign of low IQ except it is a result of official duties. The dumb and low in intelligence flex wealth because it veneers their feebleness and drawbacks because they lack what's true: wisdom, character, integrity, competence, kindness, modesty, brave, assertiveness, confidence, and courage. These qualities are not flashy and will not be glorified by the generations of dumb fellows.

6. Flexing wealth is one thing, but having the capacity to protect your life after the flexing is the most vital because you have awakened sleeping demons and devils that reside in manipulations, greed, envy, and jealousy. A case of penny wise pounds foolish.

7. Will I say, unfortunately? Ironically, a society that needs growth, truth, and freedom is the same society that will jettison and throw immaterial transcendental virtues under the bus when it comes to beautiful looks, flashy cars, designer clothes, fanciful gadgets, shining jewelry, and polished shoes. A weak generation indeed!

Sigh.

You are blessed..
