Former Governor of Zmafara State cum Senator Alhaji Ahmed Sani Yerima has responded to critics over his recent advocacy for early child marriage. The Senator has recently been in the limelight of negative commonts by Nigerians because of his stand on the proposed deletion of Section 29 (devoted mainly to Citizenship), Subsection 4 (a) (b) of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended) by the Senator Ike Ekwerenmadu-led Senate’s Constitution Review Committee. To get a clearer picture, Section 29 Subsection (1) states: Any citizen of Nigeria of full age who wishes to renounce his Nigerian citizenship shall make a declaration in the prescribed manner for the renunciation of this section. While the controversial Subsection that led to outrage (4) states for the purposes of subsection (1) that (a) “full age” means the age of eighteen years and above; (b) any woman who is married shall be deemed to be of full age. It was at this point Yerima invoked a point of order citing Item 61 of Part 1 of the Second Schedule of the Constitution which bars the National Assembly from legislating on matters of formation, annulment and dissolution of marriages under Islamic and Customary laws. Now, under Islamic laws, any woman that is married is of age whether she is up to 18-years or not. Therefore, the Senator argued that putting the age limit at 18, contravenes Islamic law. Due to the public outlash that followed the bill Senator Yerima then proceded to release this statement below. 'Nigeria has many uncountable problems and none of them is early marriage. As a matter of fact early marriage the solution to about half of our problems. For those who wonder if I can give my daughter(s) out in marriage at the age of 9 or 13, I tell you most honestly, I can give her out at the age of 6 if I want to and its not your business. This is because I am a Muslim and I follow the example of the best of mankind, Muhammad ﺻَﻠَّﻰ ﺍﻟﻠَّﻪُ ﻋَﻠَﻴْﻪِ ﻭَﺳَﻠَّﻢَ . In Islam, marriage is not only about sex, it is about family and helping one another in achieving their goals, which is the attainment of Paradise. In Islam, a girl can be given out in marriage as early as 6 years old, but consummation of the marriage can only be done when the girl becomes physically mature and she gives her consent to it because unlike English law, it is not permissible for a man To Molest his wife in Shari'ah Law. So what can anybody tell me? I live in a city where young girls at the age of 12 have already became serial fornicators and cannot count the number of man they've Were Intimate with. I live in a City where primary school children disvirgin themselves behind toilets on Valentine day. I live in a city where young girls flood the street at night looking for men that would give them N500 to Be Intimate with them. I live in a city where parents send their daughters out overseas to prostitute and send dollars down. I live in a City where Government officials pick undergraduates from University car parks with Coastal Buses to wild sex parties. I live in a city where abortion is so common that even a Chemist shop owner can perform abortion with just N2,500. These are your daughters, and this should worry you and not my private matters. So ask me again why I support early marriage and I will slap the Jinn out of your head''.

@ OP shymk/x at the end of this inhumane and appalling saga.... i hope you feel good about your miser.ab.le self.. Atiku condemns it, the Ondo speaker has apologized for supporting it, Ugbesia's people have condemned his action as selfish and personal, most enlighten and truthful muslim i have asked said they will not give their daughter out to anyone until she is properly educated and motivated for lifes challenges and here you are.... telling people who care to listen to your sorry self that some countries support underage marriage so that means its right.. i am sure you support homosexualism too because most country support it.... What is the percentage of countries who support things like this as against those that don't... (scratching your head now right trying to solve the maths...L@YSA), Majority of Nigerian have said "NO", our constitution is above any religious belief and cultural norms that guides you so if you don't like it go and hug transformer in your own sovereign state ... ![]() |
This will be interesting..... It only goes to show the level of decadency the Church and Christianity are presently swallowed in... where people regard churches as a business venture with sight of profit making as a watch word instead of saving souls for Christ... Today's churches worship the rich and philanthropist and milk the poor of whatever they have... There will come a day when all men will stand before their CHI(Maker) and give account of his/her stay in the world... by then the end will justify its mean... Food for thought |

A notorious armed group and their reign of terror along the creeks of Azuzuama, Lorbia and other parts of Southern Ijaw area of Bayelsa State led by an ex-militant known as Young Money, alias Virus, have been cut short by the combined team of Joint Task Force (JTF) and the Nigeria police. Speaking to newsmen in Yenagoa, the Chief of Staff of the Commander of the JTF, ‘Operation Pulo Shield’ Colonel Farouk Yahaya, explained that Jackson Fabowei , who is the mastermind of the killing of 11 policemen on the 5th of April 2013, has been arrested. According to Yahaya, Fabowei was arrested on the 6th of June, 2013 around Ekibri near Azuzuama in Southern Ijaw local government area. Other members of the group, according Col.Yahaya, include Lucky Bakumo alias Blacky, Egedin Gooday Sunday alias Community, Young Money alias Virus, Emeka Samuel Blacky, Idowu Mathew, Famous and Odenyen Zinikware. They are all identified at beneficiaries of the ongoing amnesty programme of the federal government. ‘’Fabowei was arrested as a result of security operations in the last few months in Lorbia, Okube, Exetu, Ekibri and Azuzuama communities of Southern Ijaw. This operation led to the burning down of hide outs, war-like materials and arms. It also led to the deployment of troops and made the area untenable to criminals’’, Yahaya said. ‘’This was achieved through sound intelligence gathering by the concerted efforts of the JTF and other security agencies. The suspect will be handed over to the police for further necessary investigation and prosecution. The JTF and other security agencies are on the trail of all criminals in our area of responsibility including other members of Jackson’s group’’, Yahaya said. Jackson Fabowei, a 400 level Law student of the Niger Delta University, Ammasoma in the oil-rich Bayelsa State and was regarded by his peers as one of the brightest brains from the Southern Ijaw axis of the state, told LEADERSHIP Weekend in a special chat at the detention centre of the Nigeria police that his involvement in crime and criminality along the creeks and waterways of Southern Ijaw was prompted by the need to gather wealth like other ex-militants in the region. Speaking to LEADERSHIP Weekend on how he took part in the killing of the policemen, Fabouwei said, ‘’I was ashamed when I saw some of my peers claiming to have millions of naira as ex-militants and driving posh cars. I was busy studying to be a lawyer. Some even said they would patronise me and dash me few naira notes. I was insulted and I took it as a challenge.’’ He admitted that though the years of militancy and armed struggle in the Niger Delta region had trained him in the act of arms handling and killings in the past, ‘’I have never envisaged that I will use a gun to kill a fellow Ijaw brother or rob people to make money.’’ Before he joined the nefarious group, Fabowei said he tried and lobbied an oil servicing company operating in Lorbia community to employ him as a security surveillance contractor, a job he was doing before he ran into trouble with the Ijaw over his involvement in the April 5 gruesome killing of policemen in Bayelsa. ‘’That very day we killed the policemen, we collected nine guns from them. As we got to the camp, there was a boy called Odie, he said we should go to Okugbe, by the time we went to Okugbe and came back, he had collected five of the guns and drove to Ezetu. Fabowei, however, admitted that the leader of the killer gang known as General Virus is still at large in Port Harcourt, Rivers State while four others have gone into hiding in cities like Calabar and Warri in Cross River and Delta states respectively. He also disclosed that he was forced at gun point to participate in the killing of the policemen, adding that the killing was led by General Virus and carried out with seven AK 47 guns and Kala gun stolen from the country home of the former leader, known as Young Shall Grow. ‘’As a surveillance contractor, I had MG 3 machine gun and we gathered at Lorbia market to launch the attack on the policemen. We positioned at the market and waited for the boat convoy of the burial procession for the mother of the ex-militant leader. The policemen’s boat came to the jetty, but General Virus insisted that the policemen should be killed and we opened fire on them. ‘’When we came down from the shooting point, we saw that one was injured while others were killed. I pleaded and asked that we save the lives of the ones that were not dead, but Virus said Young Shall Grow has offended them many times and the policemen must be executed. He was also the one that ordered that we pour them fuel and burn them.’’

Al-Mustapha was released yesterday Friday July 12th after many years in prison, and his first port of call after his release was T.B Joshua's place. T.B Joshua explains why Al-Mustapha visited him first: I got to know him many years ago when a petition was addressed to General Bamaiyi who was the then Chairman of the NDLEA. As you know, several efforts had been made by my detractors to bring me and my ministry down. One of those efforts was that petition. I was arrested for investigation and it was later discovered that it was a tissue of lies. I spent nine days with them for investigation and they found the whole thing to be a fabrication. From there, I was taken to Aso Rock (City of Power) to see the president. It was there that I met Mustapha. I was able to reveal to them who I am by telling them what was to come as a prophet. One of those things I mentioned to them and to Mustapha in particular, was what he went through, though he did not believe me then. That was why when it came to pass, I was the first person he remembered. I told him that he would spend several years in prison and would be finally released which no one else had ever told him. That is why you see him coming here as his first port of call. Where there is no vision, people perish. I am surprised you are asking me why he is coming here first. When you look into your archives as journalists, you will find many stories in the past about my visit to Aso Rock, (City of Power) while Bamaiyi was Chairman of NDLEA. Many magazines and newspapers published my visions and prophecies on the government and the presidency. When you know your picture of tomorrow, it will impart a strength to endure your present difficulty. When you know what you are passing through now will not last long, you will endure it. This is vision; this is prophecy. This can only come by revelation. This is what the Bible means by, “Where there is no vision, the people perish” (Proverbs 29:18). I will leave you here.

78-year-old Mariana Ong’ango Ololo, a new pupil at Obambo Primary School, is not only the oldest pupil in her class, the grandmother is also the oldest pupil in the school. Ololo, who hails from Siaya county, reportedly showed up at the school unannounced on 14 May, in a school uniform with a shaved head and accompanied by her 56-year-old son George. The school principal Joseph Muloand told the Daily Nation, “It is a unique case. We have to lay down a strategy of handling such an elderly pupil.” Ololo has already missed classes on several occasions due to her poor health. The Nation reports that she is a mother of eight and has been a widow since 2002. She reportedly started school because of an interest in politics and was inspired to do so by the election of Uhuru Kenyatta. She told the Daily Nation, "“Uhuru Kenyatta is not an old man, but took over as fourth President because he has got an education. That is a clear indicator that a person cannot rank highly in society without an education.”Her story is very similar to that of Guinness World Record holder Kimani Maruge who enrolled in primary school at the age of 84. Maruge had a 2010 movie, called The First Grader, made about his experience.

A 100 level student of the University of Ibadan, who attempted to commit suicide by drinking bleach after being jilted by her lover was rushed to the University College Hospital to save her from dying. The female student (name withheld) allegedly drank a solution called Hypo on Sunday Nov 4, after her long time boyfriend ended their relationship. It was learnt further that the news of a serious damage to her kidney had spread on the campus. The poison was flushed out of her system before causing her harm . A singing sensation on campus was said to have quickly waxed a hip hop lyric entitled "Hypo Love" to teach other students, especially ladies the morals of the incident. A source within the university said the lady is now fit and back in school after the poison was flushed out of her system at the institution's Jaja Clinic. |
KINGwax: Is that 10am or 10pm. Fake news, fake pix. I passed there twice today, nothing nothing except the usual arrests everywhere. Shoot ko, fire niI have absolutely nothing against you but it would be nice if you actually pursue facts rather than discrediting people when you are not sure of happenings around your environment. this was a serious matter because life was involved with possibilities of families weeping, children becoming fatherless and wife a widow. May God Help our Beloved country. |
Probably because most Nigerians lack the basic first aid technique in handling gun shot wounds, Secondly, if you take him to the hospital you would have to get a police report meaning you might be detained by the police. You would also need to deposit some money at the hospital before proper medical attention will be given to the victim. the police might cook up a story to suit them thereby tagging you as an accomplice to armed robbery... the list is endless.. my broda |
