aliandro: Gud write up phoenix. If it is 2 be my wish,i would love 2 write ur day 2 day analysis of wot u experience at idi araba.D lord dat saw ur lecturers and dr lagusta through will be with u.I tot medicine students write 1 exam per year, does d test alxo count?Happy easter 2 all medicos
A big amen. We have what we call 'incourses' here, there are also continuous assessments. Incourses(tests) and CA's make up 30% of the total exam score. They are mostly used to evaluate the performance of students. We will be writing 4 incourses for each course I.e Anatomy;4 , Physiology;4 , BCH;4 and your best 3 will be selected. CA's are written only for Anatomy and they equally carry marks. So my dear, its like writing exams all year round but there will be only ONE professional exam. This is for CMUL, I don't know about other schools. And for ur other request, NO :p, except u want to read my diary which I won't allow you to. Happy easter

Fellow medical students
I'♏ terribly stressed as I write this piece,8 full hours of sleep these days is like a fairy tale. The work load is just too much. I have lab practicals close to 4 times a week, each lab lasting abt 4-5 hours! and u have to stand during practicals ! I never knew it was going to be this tough. Last week we had a BCH test; 300 questions for 2 hours and we will be having anatomy CA on wednesday (200 questions). The annoying part is the dissection classes, Formaline forces tears from my eyes, and its stench can be unbearable at times. At times, I ask the question 'what have I gotten myself into?'
I really needed somewhere to rant and what better place than a forum of medical students who have gone through what I'♏ going through.
I'♏ not broken yet and I don't think I will ever will, beneath the stress I still find joy exploring the human body, we love our cadavar so much that we even gave him a name, there's this joy that comes over you when you see 'the long head of biceps originating from the supraglenoid cavity of scapula' a feeling of fulfilment comes over you when u discover why the kenyans always win long distance races (increase in the rbc production due to them staying in high/mountainous areas), and u marvel at the many reactions going on in the human body (methylation, iodination, hydrolysis and a whole lot of others).
I guess I'll get used to the whole stress and I strongly believe that my passion will override whatever the lecturers throw at me cos I really can't imagine myself studying anything else. I guess I'♏ in love with this course!
Pardon my long post, How's everyone doing! Its been a while
Nairaland GeneralRe: When Was The Last Time You Cried And What Happened? by Phoenix6278(m): 8:16pm On Mar 22, 2013
Today, and it was due to formalin in the gross lab, wasn't funny at all.

Leopantro: sorry, which or what is a galaxy S3 mini?
Its a new phone that has the same looks with the S3 but differing screen size and specs, of course S3 is more powerful.
PhonesRe: Android, Anyone? Part II by Phoenix6278(m): 9:06am On Jan 09, 2013
4llerbuntu: The S3 mini is a mid range fone with far poorer specs and performance compared with the S3.

@ leopantro how did u get amazon to ship to you in nigeria?

i want to buy stuff there but they telling me they don't ship to nigeria!
Your description of the phone made me reconsider buying it, its about 56K. Can u please recommend a better android phone within that range?

Really enjoying this discussion especially the way you guys have been talking about cadavers. But seriously, are they really that fun to dissect? Really can't wait to resume next month, you guys just reignited the passion. Success to all those writing one exam or the other, you will all make it.
Kudos to the Lab scientists, the Dentists, physiotherapists to mention a few, we are all working towards the same goal which is to save lives and to make it much easier to live and Dr Lagusta pls invite us to your induction, let me visit my tailor to sew me a specially crafted caftan for the occasion. Happy new year Ɣ'all

Yep one of the best, I'll keep doing my best and with God on my side, everything will turn out fine. Hmmm, how did you know, I'♏ 100% pro neuro and I even have USLME brochure with me. Tobbie9: @phoenix6728 do u guys in unilag do practicals that add to G. P, looking forward to ur reply.
Sorry its coming late. Our practicals do add to the GP, some practicals even have course codes I.e PHS 103 which is experimental physics ( a 2 unit course), CHM 102;experimental chemistry also a 2 unit course WHILE in some cases, you do practicals as part of some courses e.g FSC 101(biology), ZLY 101,ZLY 102 BTN 101, FSC 103(computer), these practicals carry marks, some carry as much as 30 marks as in the case of Zoology. Hope I've been able to answer your question. THIS IS FOR 100 LEVEL MED & SURG dept

Dr.Gboy:
Guy u too much oooo,4.89!!!!
Congrats to u sir, u really slapped that 2nd semester exam across d face.
Thnks 4 d advice,i will not hesistate to call ur attention if i have any difficulty.i'll make sure i try my best to reach 4.89 or even more.
I got sm lil issues i want to clarify,
in ur phys, wz d questions on heat energy difficult? coz that section is smhw complex.
Thanks man, you can achieve that, nothing stops you from making a 5.0. Would have had that if not for laziness, trust me I can be lazy at times..lol. And yeah, the heat aspect is a little complex, the questions weren't smiling either. Try and get college physics schaum's outline, you have more than enough questions on it, some lecturers even pick questions from it. Lay your hands on past questions too, trust me you will be awed the first time you try them, the questions will look strange and scary BUT that's the point, it enables you to go back and read. Don't ignore the mechanics part of 105 too, that's the most interesting part. BOTTOM LINE Get Nelkon and Parker A level phs and college physics schaum's outline, you will be fine with those with time sef girls will be flocking around you, they will be like ' Dr Gboy, pls can u explain this to me' , u get d drift......

Result was good, made a 4.89 this time so I'♏ officially at the college of medicine. Really proud of you, just keep reading, start attempting past questions, attend lectures, keep good friends and manage your time well. Hopefully you will join me here next year. If you encounter challenges along the way just try and reach me, I'll be glad to help. God bless

Dr.Gboy:
thnkscheesycheesycheesy i'm almost true with d clearance process.it remains only course registration and hostel application.our cutoff wz low dis yr due to d general low performance in jamb compared to urs. Pls can u recommend any textbk which i wuld definetly make use of in 100level.
Well, some of the texts needed for certain courses(FSC 104; maths FSC 103;computer science) will be provided by their respective departments. However, u can choose to supplement the 104 text provided with Engineering maths by K A stroud. I will recommend Raymond Chang Chemistry for FSC 103, Raven Johnson or Biological sciences for FSC 101, Invertebrate Zoology for ZLY 101, Nelkon and Parker A level / Physics for scientists and Engineers Jeweet and Serway for FSC 105. Class notes are VERY important (especially for ZLY101) as most lecturers don't go beyond what's given in the note , past questions are equally indispensable. Texts will also be provided for the GST courses and you will be given some practical manuals when you register some courses ( ZLY 101 and FSC 101). Hope I've been able to answer your question

Dr.Gboy:
thanks, yeah we need to pop champagne, but dat will be sm oda tym.it wasn't easy at all to beat d cutoff,it went thru hell...thank God i made it thru dat rigorous admissn process even though it wz my first attempt at JAMB.as for the physicals, that won't be any problem by God's grace.ur CGPA of 4.82 is totally impresive,i'm sure u'll cross over nxt semester.cheesy
You must be a genius o, not only beat the cut off but it was your first attempt! Sir, congrats again. Yeah, admission process in Unilag is always rigorous, you guys were even lucky, the cut-off was 76 during my time. I thank God I made it though. Lol, Amen and amen by God's grace. Some guys made 5.0 GPA so its not a big deal. How far have you gone with clearance, that's one stressful process o

Dr.Gboy:
thnks. Do u hv any idea of d CGPA required to cross over to idi-araba i mean college of medicine?
Nah CGPA ain't required, but at times, u wud really wish it was required. ♏ on a 4.82 GPA (first semester) yet ♏ not certain I will cross, its this semester's result that will determine.
Courses are grouped into Physicals, Chemicals and Biologicals, and a cumulative average of 50 is required in each group to cross to Idi-Araba. Just work hard and try to score as high as you can in each course as the grading system of A, B, C, D ...... Is pretty useless in our case. CONCENTRATE more on the physicals, that's where most students falter. Don't worry, you will be given orientation when u resume. You are free to ask me any question, hopefully, I'll be able to answer. Congrats on ur admission o, pop enough champagne o, its not easy

Nah, I don't know him/her, but the person is definitely part of our class ( name is on the admission list). Maybe when the class gets smaller, we will get to know one another. @Lagusta Thanks
