My Note 5 that stopped working after it dropped into water could not be fixed by the phone engineer.
When saw that the phone charges but the screen does come on. He suggested that he check if a new screen would work. Which did not. He then suggested that it could be an engine problem as he couldn't see any sign of it ever drenched in water(I had placed it in raw rice for some days) and that I go to Carlcare and I was asked to pay about 30k for its repairs.
Now this does not make any business sense to me. Moreso the last time I sent my phone it came back working but with skoi skoi. And kept malfunctioning. Despite the huge sum paid for the repairs.
Useful suggestions needed here
you should have gone to carl care first, you lose your warranty the moment an external person touches the device first, regardless pm me, i can assist you get it fixed.

Phones / Mistake We Make When Charging Our Infinix Phones by phonedaddy: 8:46am On May 15, 2019
Five mistakes you make while charging your Phone

Many phone users tend to complain that their device’s batteries discharge quickly. They also typically blame the product manufacturer for this issue; however, the manufacturer isn’t always at fault. Here are some five mistakes that users typically make when charging their phones.

Waiting for the Battery to reach low levels before charging

Avoid waiting for your battery to reach a critically low level before charging. The effect of this on your phone battery is not immediate, but over time it begins to manifest and it eventually stresses out your phone battery (yes, batteries get stressed too) and shortens the battery life. Think of your battery as a human body, you really don’t need to wait until you’re about to die before you rest and eat to recharge yourself.

Keeping your phone case on while charging

Your phone typically emits heat when charging. To avoid exposing your device to ambient temperatures, it’s advisable to remove the phone case while charging your phone so that the heat emitted from your phone while charging can escape. This way you can prevent your device from becoming hotter and potentially overheating when charging. Charging your battery at uncomfortable temperatures can permanently damage battery capacity.

Charging your phone in the wrong places

You should mind where you charge your phone, because not doing so can negatively affect your battery capacity. Phones have a temperature range they can function normally and charging your phone in a hot area can raise the temperature and stress the battery out. Also, charging your phone in especially low temperature areas, like in front of an air conditioner, can also cause problems for your battery that will eventually affect its optimum performance.

Charging your phone overnight

The least you’ll sleep throughout the night is most likely going to be between 5 to 8 hours, your smartphone battery typically only needs 2 to 3 hours to fully charge. Charging your phone overnight, constantly stresses your phone battery each night. Sooner than later, your phone is likely to have battery problems. In addition, the temperature rises when the battery is overcharged, so apart from shortening battery life, it can also threaten user’s safety in the event it quickly heats up and explodes. It’s better to charge your phone before you sleep and switch it off while sleeping to preserve the battery till the next day.

Plugging whatever charger fits

This especially applies to smartphones. Most smartphones use a micro USB for its chargers and for this reasons most people tend to switch and swap chargers since it fits into and works on their phones. However, this is not appropriate and in the long run it can negatively affect your phone battery. The fact that most smartphones have the same micro USB doesn’t mean all chargers and phones are compatible. Some chargers function differently and that difference can be detrimental to your device.

Phones / What The Status And Notification Icons On Android Actually Mean by phonedaddy: 3:00pm On May 14, 2019
It seems that the icons in the status and notification bar get shaken up with every major Android update, sometimes changing appearance or disappearing entirely. If you find yourself not knowing what the two arrow and letters mean, for example, we're here to help make sense of these unintelligible glyphs. After all, what good are all these icons if you can't understand them.

STATUS BAR AND NOTIFICATION BAR: AN IMPORTANT DISTINCTION

-THE STATUS BAR
The status bar and the notification bar are very similar, but in reality, they are two different things. The status bar is at the top of the display, on the right. The time, the battery status and current connections like Bluetooth and Wi-Fi are displayed here.

On the left side of your device, you'll find app icons to alert you to new messages, updates to the Play Store, and other notifications. Also, ongoing notifications can be accommodated here. So, if you listen to music Google Play Music, the corresponding icon will be displayed permanently. The sequence of the icons indicates how new or old the notifications are. The most recent notifications are displayed on the far left.

-THE NOTIFICATION BAR AND DRAWER
The notification bar contains notifications, which you can open with a wipe down like a curtain. On this notification drawer you swipe down, a lot of information is shown in a small space. You can preview a screenshot, read a WhatsApp message, see Facebook updates and more. You can then decide whether you want to open the app or remove the notification with a wipe to the right. Since Nougat, these embedded notifications are smarter than ever: You can now respond directly to messages without even having to open the app first.

In addition to the notifications, the quick settings are also located here. Here you can make settings quickly and efficiently. This allows you to enable and disable Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and other options. If you press and hold down an icon, you will enter the settings for this function. Most manufacturers offer direct access to the screen brightness setting.

Most manufacturers also customize the quick settings themselves. Therefore, there are always several options here. Fortunately, the selection can be personalized to your tastes and habits so you always have access to the most important settings for you. Also, you can always disable annoying or uninteresting notifications just by long-pressing an alert. This will open a small menu where you can choose how you want to be notified by the app.

Phones / How Wireless Charging Works: Charging By Induction by phonedaddy: 9:36am On May 10, 2019
Wireless charging technology lets you top up your smartphone’s battery without plugging in a power cable. This article explains how wireless charging works and explains what charging by induction means? We explain it all.

Charging By Induction
Inductive charging uses an induction coil to create an alternating electromagnetic field from inside a charging base, and a second induction coil in the compatible smartphone converts the power from the electromagnetic field back into electric current to charge the battery.

Inductive charging is the most popular form of wireless charging and has been built into many smartphones for a few years now. If you have heard of Qi wireless chargers, they work by inductive charging.

How Wireless Charging Works
To use Qi wireless charging, you need a charging pad. Plug the pad into a wall socket and place your Qi-compatible smartphone on it to charge. Wireless pads or plates now come in all shapes and sizes, with some of them coming in the form of small, colourful pillows.

The advantage of wireless charging is convenience: you do not have to plug and unplug your phone. Just drop it on the charging plate and carry on with your business. It is great for work desks, restaurant tables, and home furniture.

What Of Long-Range Wireless Charging?
At some point in time, you may desire something more freeing – something that does not require close proximity. A new wireless charging technology named Wi-Charge uses infra-red beams to charge devices over longer distances.

It isn’t in use yet by any smartphone manufacturers. So if you want a phone that charges wirelessly, the only available options are Qi enabled phones.

Which Are The Qi Enabled Phones?
There are quite a number of Qi enabled phones in the market. This is because the Qi standard has become the defacto wireless charging standard for smartphones due to its huge popularity. You will find Qi enabled phones from Apple, Samsung, Nokia, LG, Huawei, Xiaomi, Sony, Sharp, etc and it is coming for Infinix devices in the nearest future

Check the specifications page of the phones you are interested in to confirm whether or not they have wireless charging support.

Pick A Wireless Charger
Now that you understand how wireless charging works, you are better informed to choose a wireless charger.

If your phone is advertised as being able to charge wirelessly, then you can enjoy the convenience. All you need to so is buy a wireless charger. There is a wide range of wireless chargers in the market. They come in different sizes, shapes, designs, textures, and prices.

Here are a few brands that manufacture good quality wireless chargers:

Belkin
Samsung
Case Mate
Native Union
Anker
Yootech
Seneo
Aukey
Choetech
Ailun
New brands come up every other day though, so be sure to ask at your favourite gadget retail store.

Again, here is the summary of how wireless charging works: electricity is transferred from a charging plate to the smartphone, wearable or other device via elctromagnetic waves. This means that even with a protective case on, your Qi-enabled phone will still get charged wirelessly when placed on a charging plate.

Phones / How To Improve GPS Accuracy On Android? by phonedaddy: 9:33am On May 02, 2019
While visiting places which are unknown to you GPS helps us a lot because using GPS we can use various navigational apps such as Google maps which helps us to find our way easily but it may also happen that your GPS may not work properly which can make you fall in a troublesome situation and you may get lost.

Thankfully there're many ways to fix those GPS problems which we're going to discuss in today's thread but before knowing what optimizations can be done to fix GPS problems, it's important to understand what GPS actually is. So, first of all, let's discuss it.

What is GPS?

It's helpful to understand how GPS works in order to optimize it. GPS stands for Global Positioning System and was developed by the US Army in 1973, but it was released for civilian purposes in the eighties. It was initially used with 24 satellites but now there are 31 operational GPS satellites in orbit.

Your smartphone communicates with these satellites via a GPS antenna, which is part of the hardware in the vast majority of current smartphones and tablets. The antenna is connected via a driver to the software. This means there are three main sources, which GPS problems can arise from:

The number of GPS satellites at the current location
The quality of the GPS antenna in the smartphone
The implementation of the driver in the operating system
These three things cause GPS problems butthere're different ways as well to overcome such problems whichwe're going to discuss now. So, without wasting timelet's start!

Switch on High Accuracy Mode

To get the best possible signal, you have to be prepared to use a bit more battery than normal. It's a necessary sacrifice, and you can always reverse it later when you don't need to use GPS anymore. Enabling this is easy; just follow a couple of steps and you'll be on your way.

Go into your Settings and tap Location and ensure that your location services are on. You should also be able to enable it from the quick toggles when pulling down the notification bar.

How to use Maps offline ?

The first category under Location should be Mode. Tap it and make sure it's set to High accuracy. This uses your GPS as well as Wi-Fi and mobile networks to estimate your location. Of course, this setting will use more battery but will utilize all available methods to give you the most accurate location possible.

On some smartphones you will also find additional options under Scanning in the location settings page. You can enable Wi-Fi scanning and/or Bluetooth scanning. The first will improve accuracy even further by allowing apps and services to detect Wi-Fi networks at any time. The same applies for Bluetooth scanning, which will detect Bluetooth devices nearby.

Use a compass app to recalibrate the GPS

If you suspect your GPS signal is not up to snuff, you can force it to recalibrate. To do this you will need a compass app. Some phones come with one already pre-installed. If yours does, fire it up and go through the process of recalibration to give your GPS signal a much-needed refresh.

If your Android device does not come with a compass app, you can download one from the Play Store and do it this way. Compass Galaxy is a good and reliable option.

Keep the GPS signal active

One of the main problems that we encountered when going from one app to another is that the GPS is turned off to save battery. If for example you are playing Pokémon Go and want to take a look at your latest messages, your GPS could be turned off.

However, you can keep the GPS signal active. To do this you need to install a GPS app. We recommend Connected GPS. It's a simple app and does the trick. Bear in mind that doing this could result in reduced battery life.

Find out if your GPS issues are hardware- or software related

You can easily find it out using" GPS Essential". Using this App you will have to tap on the main menu and click on satellites option. If satellite

If no satellites appear, then this could be due to interference from metallic objects around you, your smartphone case, or your GPS hardware not working properly. If satellites do appear, but your GPS is still out of whack, then this is a software issue, and you should refer to the other tips in this article to help you.

Refresh your GPS Data

Sometimes your device will get 'stuck' on certain GPS satellites, even if they’re not within range, causing it not to work properly. To fix this, you can use an app like GPS Status &; Toolbox to clear your GPS data and to start connecting to satellites from scratch.

In the app, tap anywhere on the screen, then tap the menu icon and hit Manage A-GPS state. Tap Reset, then when that's finished go back into the Manage A-GPS state menu and tap Download. Your GPS data should now be refreshed. If it starts playing up again just repeat this process.

Get an external GPS receiver

If your smartphone GPS receiver is no longer been able to provide you sufficient services thenit's time for you to purchase a new external receiver which can be paired with your smartphone using Bluetooth.

So, friends, these are 6 things which you can do to improve your GPS accuracy. I hopeit'll help you to improve your smartphone GPS accuracy. If you have any questions regarding it in your mind feel free to ask in the comment section.

Phones / Best Selfie Sticks For Your Smartphones by phonedaddy: 11:17am On Apr 24, 2019
JETech Wired Selfie Stick

If you don't want to spend a lot of money on your selfie stick purchase, and your phone still has the old fashioned 3.5mm headphone jack. you might want to consider getting this model from JETech. The stick itself extends from 4.5 inches to a maximum length of 36 inches, allowing users to get a great group selfie image. After you place the smartphone in the mount, just connected the included 3.4mm cable to the headphone jack, and then press the button at the bottom of the stick to take pictures. The mount rotates up to 270 degrees so you can get the best angle. Best of all, it's cheap. You can get the JEtech selfie stick on Amazon for $9.99. Be aware that some Android phones will need to download a companion app so it can work with this selfie stick.

Mpow Selfie Stick

For the same price as the JETech model, the Mpow Selfie Stick offers up a wireless experience with Bluetooth support. Just pair the stick with the attached smartphone on Bluetooth and the built-in remote control does the rest. The stick retracts down to just 7.1 inches for easy transport, but the Mpow model has a maximum extension of 31.9 inches which does not extend out as much as the JETech model. You can get the Mpow Selfie Stick now for $9.99.

Fugetek FT-568 Selfie Stick

If you want a more rugged selfie stick, and you also want one for your larger DSLR camera, then check out the Fugetek FT-568 selfie stick. Not only is the Bluetooth-based selfie stick made of a tougher material than other sticks, it also extends out to 49 inches. It also has two different kinds of mounts. One is a mirror mount so you can use your smartphone's rear camera instead of your front selfie camera. The other is a screw tight mount for extra protection against slips. You can get the Fugetek FT-568 selfie stick for $18.99.

Mighty Selfie Stick

The Mighty Selfie Stick gets its name because it can extend out for a long, long distance. This Bluetooth-enabled selfie stick can take your smartphone, small camera or GoPro out to as far as 120 inches. Yes, that means you can take a selfie while the phone is 10 feet away from you. The stick also comes with a tripod mount so you can have more steady selfie shots. It's available for Amazon at a premium price. You can snap it up for $59.99.

Kungfuren Selfie Stick

It's also compatible with tripods for even wider shots, and the Bluetooth enabled stick charge up with a standard microUSB port. It's available on Amazon for $29.99.

Phones / 3 Reasons You Should Backup Your Device On A Regular Basis by phonedaddy: 9:07am On Apr 23, 2019
Backing up a device can be time consuming. Discover what the risks are of not taking the time to store your data on backup device or a cloud service.

While there are plenty of how-to articles on how to backup a mobile device, it is first important to understand why you should do so. Following are three compelling reasons for making time to backup a device.

Protection from Theft
Smartphones and other similar devices are stolen on a very regular basis. In fact, the FCC says that more than one million devices are swiped every single year. Losing your device is bad enough, but losing all your personal and work-related data on it as well can be devastating. Periodically backup your device in order to save yourself the time, hassle, and heartbreak of losing sentimental photos, phone numbers for important clients, and work-related projects you worked hard to complete.

Protection from Upgrades
Upgrading a device is a good idea; however, be aware that it can also cause you to lose important data. It is not uncommon for all personal data to be completely erased after the OS update. This is especially true for Android devices, but even iPhone device owners are advised to backup data before enabling an upgrade.

Protection from Yourself
It’s not just other people and programs you need to worry about. Many smartphone owners have lost or permanently damaged a device by dropping it in water, accidentally leaving it in a pants pocket and then throwing the pants in the washing machine, dropping the device on a hard surface, or leaving it in a child’s reach. While in some cases you can retrieve some of your personal data even if the device no longer works, this is not always the case. It is always better to be safe than sorry, so backup your device to make sure you can get ahold of your files while your phone is being repaired or replaced.
